  1. While a friend of mine was developing my Rockchip rv 1126 device, we lost access as a result of a wrong operation. The device is powered on. the red light on the back is on, but we cannot access the device we have previously identified from the ip's. When I try the usb port on the device, I get a device not recognized warning in ubuntu 22.04 and windows10. Can anyone help me to reinstall the operating system or access the device? Thank you.

Hello, After facing multiple instabilities during previous week, I decided to completely reinstall my helios64 to a fresh image (bookworm) from the download section. But before doing that, I need some help/have some questions: Currently, I’m using emmc to host the system, how can I completely backup and restore the system on an sd-card (you know, just in case...) Does the current image (https://dl.armbian.com/helios64/Bookworm_current_minimal) already contains usb drivers from:and this dtb file: Does the process to install the new image on emmc is the same as the one documented on Kobol site? At the moment, I’m a little bit los…

  4. Hello everyone, I somehow managed to brick my OrangePi 4 LTS. I had the Armbian running on it and decided to try the newest install in a minimal format so no desktop. Installed it, made all the setup and restarted. Since then no other image works, neither the official orangepi images nor any other armbian image. I tried booting off without the SD Card, trying to flash another OS with the SD card and read out the TTL and this is what I get: DDR Version 1.25 20210517 In channel 0 CS = 0 MR0=0x18 MR4=0x2 MR5=0x1 MR8=0x10 MR12=0x72 MR14=0x72 MR18=0x0 MR19=0x0 MR24=0x8 MR25=0x0 channel 1 CS = 0 MR0=0x18 MR4=0x2 MR5=0x1 MR8=0x10 MR12=0x72 MR14=0x72 MR18=0x…

  6. With the recent update of the kernel "edge" package (6.8.11-edge-rockchip64) when the system boots. interfaces get different names (they used to be "end0" and "eth1" before, and now they are "eth0" and "eth1"), but more importantly, they both show different MAC address (the old address returns when previous kernel is booted). It took some time to figure why it did not appear on its prescribed address... Anyone notice this, or has a clue why? 7. Hello everyone, I'm experiencing frequent network disconnections on my system running Armbian 24.5.3, both with Bookworm and Noble bases, which are both using Kernel 6.6.39. This issue becomes particularly frustrating when syncing files with Unison, as the interruptions disrupt the process frequently. To provide some background, I didn't encounter these network issues when I was using the last Focal version, which was running on Kernel 5.x. The current versions of Samba I'm using are 4.17.12-Debian on Bookworm and 4.19.5-Ubuntu on Noble. Unison is at version 2.52.1 on Bookworm and 2.53.3 on Noble. Both systems also have the latest updates for MDADM…

  9. Hey Everyone, I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. I recently purchased a Radxa Rock 5B+ and I installed the debian bookworm test build provided by radxa on there getting started page. https://docs.radxa.com/en/rock5/rock5b/getting-started/install-os/boot_from_sd_card https://github.com/radxa-build/rock-5b-plus-6_1/releases/download/rsdk-t4/rock-5b-plus-6_1_bookworm_kde_t4.output.img.xz I was mainly intent on using the HDMI with gstreamer using custom resolutions, but found that when using custom resolutions they cannot use the YCrCb pixel format only RGB8. I install armbian on the sd card, then insert it into firefly ROC-RK3328-CC. At the start, it flashes quickly 2 times, makes a small pause and flashes quickly 2 more times. Before that, it worked correctly, but I decided to reinstall the system and got this problem. I tried to install the system from firefly, as a result, only debian 9 worked, but it also worked with problems (at the first launch it reached the desktop, after rebooting and connecting the keyboard and mouse, it did not go beyond tty).

  14. Hi, I'm trying to fully boot an Orange Pi 4 from a USB flash drive from Uboot's prompt before it actually loads the kernel from the SD card (The SD card already has a working image of Armbian installed, that's where the board pulled Uboot from and is booting from it). The SD card currently has Armbian_23.5.1_Orangepi4_jammy_current_6.1.30_gnome_desktop installed on it. The reason why I'm trying to boot the board from USB is that I want to try an image with Orange Pi 4's legacy kernel to be able to take advantage of its vendor Mali blob for performance comparison against the current open source Panfrost driver in mainline kernel. And that I don't ha…

  17. Hi everyone! I recently bought an Orange Pi 5 Pro and decided to install kernel 6.10 on it, as I wanted to take advantage of the new drivers available in this kernel. I found that the [Orange Pi 5 Pro page on the Armbian website](https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-5-pro/) offers distributions with kernel 6.1, but not 6.10. After trying to install kernel 6.10 via `armbian-config` on an already installed system, I encountered an issue: the system stopped booting. ### Questions and Requests for Help 1. **Support for Kernel 6.10 on Orange Pi 5 Pro**: - Am I correct in understanding that kernel 6.10 is currently not supported for my board? - Does a…

  18. Hello Armbian Rockchip community, I'm working on getting Armbian based on the 6.1 BSP kernel running on a custom RK3328 board (specifically the MKS SKIPR for a 3D printer). This board is very similar to the libre renegade rk3328-roc-cc - just a few minor GPIO pin changes are required. I want to use the 6.1 BSP kernel because I expect it to have mpp video encoding capabilities. There is an existing repo that has this board working on the 6.7 mainline kernel with a couple of gpio patches. I've made some progress but am running into issues and could use some guidance. So far, I've been able to: Compile and run the basic 6.7 kernel for the MKS SKIPR - fr…

  20. Orange Pi 5 Pro 16GB Armbian Ubuntu 24.04 XFCE on NVMe (SD card to boot to NVMe) USB 3.0 is not working anymore after install. Was working on OPi OS Ubuntu 22.04 before as I used it to copy Armbian image to NVMe. Hi all, built an image for the nanopi m4v2 today using this command line from the build folder ./compile.sh BOARD=nanopim4v2 BRANCH=current BUILD_DESKTOP=no BUILD_MINIMAL=no KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no RELEASE=jammy the build completed successfuly so I flashed it to an sdcard, the problem is is won't boot, I used my newly found skill ( thanks @Werner ) and connected my UART serial TTL cable. The output is rather verbose so apologies up front - does this mean anything to anyone here. The build is the same as I normally do and it's worked fine until today.

  22. Hi there, I wanted to share with everyone here the final product - a gaming handheld we've designed from scratch in Solidworks. I've been working on this with a fellow Armbian contributor @GinKage for quite some time (probably over a year now... time really does fly) who has helped me learn a lot on the software side, which I wasn't really familiar with before I reached out to him. Despite it's shortcomings, I'm really happy with the v1 build. I hope you guys like it! 27. I have a Dev term a06 and have been having problems with the newer releases based on kernel 6.x. After booting one of these, the display does not have backlight or any text/image displayed. On the last 5.x it boots and works fine. I have not yet tried the HDMI output on the 6.x versions, need to get an adapter, but I'm guessing that the built in display is not discovered. The Dev term does not normally have a serial port, I'd need to solder up an adapter, or I would have looked at it to see if anything was happening. Any suggestions for a very basic Linux user to try? 29. I have had major problems trying to use spidev on the pine RockPro64 SBC running Armbian_24.2.1_Rockpro64_jammy_current_6.6.16_xfce. I have posted these comments on the pine.org forum also. I think there is a problem with the spidev device in Armbian as it never toggles the CS line. When I controlled the CS line from my software, I could communicate, but the received data was wrong. I have no experience with the device tree, but I suspect an isue therein. To bypass the problem I wrote a bitbang routine and it works fine and gives the correct data. None of orangepi factory images boot. In and out of itself, it is not a problem. Yet. But what if something changes in a future?

Up until now, I succeded by removing the disable-libdrm and disable-wayland to enable hardware acceleration and use H264, H265 and AV1 all of them through hardware acceleration. However, I get huge decoding times and they are even variable, ranging from 40ms to 300ms depending on what is going on in the streaming. I post in another topic this problem and finally, a forum member showed me that the problem was that there were no drivers for my internal storage in this version. So, my hope now lies in whether I can upgrade to Armbian 24.5.1. I also want to upgrade because the audio drivers haven't been working for a long time and I've tried a thousand things described in different forums. So, in short, how can I upgrade WITHOUT making a new i…

  43. Hi, First of all I am posting in Rockpro64 section because I am not seeing one for Rock64 What I need is like the title says: use OTG USB port as regular USB 2.0 port (so I can connect another device). Currently I need the 2 USB 2.0 ports (USB 3.0 is already being used with a external disk). Is this possible? OS version: Armbian 24.2.1 Jammy - Linux 6.6.16-current-rockchip64 Thanks in advance.

  44. I'm trying to enable i2c3 on my orange pi 5b, according to the user manual, i2c is disabled on the 26 header pins by default, and to enable them, you need to edit the /boot/orangepiEnv.txt file, however, my orange pi doesn't have that file. I tried creating a new file and copying the required instructions, then restarted linux, but it still didn't work. Has anyone encountered a similar issue or does anyone know how to resolve this?

  45. Hi guys, I still have two 21.5-inch tablets here, on which I would like to install Armbian. The mainboard is a Sunchip AD-Z33 V1.1 with an RK3288 on board. The board has 2GB RAM and 8 GB flash memory. However, it also has an LVDS slot to which the touchdisplay is connected. Here you can see the equipment in detail: https://www.embeddedsystemboard.com/sale-11364924-rk3288-industrial-arm-board-multi-function-linux-os-i2c-interface-touch-screen.html Do you think that Armbian runs on it and that the functions are still available? Or maybe an RK3288 ArmbianTV box version could run on this as an alternative?

  49. Hi Team, I hope you're all keeping well. I'm into my first foray into armbian, and I'm having trouble just getting it to boot on my Nanopi R6S. Feeling a bit thick, like I'm missing something obvious. I can get FriendlyELEC's rk3588-sd-debian-bookworm-core-6.1-arm64-20240511 to boot without any trouble, but not armbian images. 50. I have my RK3399-based device booting with my own working kernel and device tree. I want to erase the root partition and install Debian from one of the official ARM distros, but I'm not sure how to do this. Obviously, I can't just boot into the Debian installer like on an X86 machine. What I think I need is a root partition of a vanilla Debian install, because then I can just point U-boot to the root partition and Debian should boot (hopefully into an installer). What's the best way to proceed?

  51. Hi team, This is not exactly Armbian related, however I hope to find some help here, also it can be useful for someone else in custom board development (my case). For testing I have Olimex RK3328-SOM-EVB and RK3318 TV box boards. They both behave the same way. As summary I'm trying to boot Linux using the Bootrom and USB OTG only, in other words without any external boot NVM attached. To archive this I build U-Boot SPL (u-boot-spl.bin), which support SDP protocol via USB OTG. For SDP file transfer I'm using imx_usb tool. The binaries used in the process are: rk3328_uboot_v1.19.250.bin - consists of u-boot-tpl.bi…

  53. Hi, In a bid to solve an issue with my NAS (which I now think was a dying HDD) I foolishly decided to upgrade from buster to bullseye and now most, if not all, of the services are failing to start - including network-manager, sshd and fancontrol so I only have access via the USB serial console. By setting a static IP I have been able to get it network access at least. When I try to start any of the dead services it hangs for a minute or so, then kicks me back to the login and the terminal is corrupted so I need to reboot before I'm able to do anything meaningful. (I am able to start fancontrol by just running `fancontrol` at which point the fans stop going at 100%, s…

  54. Bigtreetech CB2 and Pi 2 released somewhat recently (April 20th). They use RK3566 and have a lot of nice features. The board and module are intended for 3d printer use but can be used just like any other pi. There is an official linux image on bigtreetech github, and it seems it's a slightly customized armbian. I propose copying that configuration and adding it as a supported board. This is a bit of a personal tangent, but I was also thinking of how I can submit the device tree files to the mainline linux kernel, would that be a good idea? I'm planning to use or at least try Alpine on the board and it would be nice to have the needed files in the linux package…

  58. I have a Helios64 that I recently reinstalled/updated to the latest Armbain Jammy image after not updating for quite some time and finding some of the repos to be dead. Without the drives initialized the system seems like it will run for days, but with the drives initialized (ZFS), I will get the below error after a few hours of uptime (~8-10 hours). I have seen some threads saying to set the CPU clock to one speed to fix the issue and some people installing a newer kernel (via beta.armbian.com). 62. hello, i was trying to set up a 2 pin fan on my orangepi 5b and i connected it to pin 25 and 26 (GND and PWM1). When i first started this task, the output from gpio readall would show me all 26 pins on the board. As i was digging through some forums to try and get the PWM pin to operate as on/off, i came across wiringOP and when i installed it, the output of `gpio readall` changed to only show 8pins. I am unsure of what went wrong and why it only shows 8 pins. I tried removing wiringOP and it still has not made a difference. Thanks

  64. I apologize in advance if I wrote to the wrong branch. Dear community, a question about OrangePi 5B (board without SPI-flash!). There is only an eMMC on the device. The computer is successfully running on the OS from the Orangepi website, recorded both on the SD card (Baleno Ether) and with eMMC (MaskROM+RKdevtool). At the same time, I see the devices themselves and their partitions, SD card and/or eMMC. The Armbian OS for OrangePi 5/5B/5 Plus (CLI or GUI) written to the SD card loads and works, BUT disk commands DO NOT SEE eMMC, only SD card partitions. In Armbian-config, there is only the Insatall/Update bootloader on SD/eMMC item, which does not change anything. If …

  67. Since the specific USB hardware support is now in place, I thought it would be good to discuss pitfalls and remedies for transitioning to a modern kernel. I have now tested the 6.8.5 based Armbian. None of the latest packages (.408 - .411) come up with HDMI output. 69. I've got an OrangePi based on the Rockchip RK3399. The official OrangePi Debian version I'm using is Armbian-based I believe and uses a 5.10 kernel. I want to upgrade the kernel as later ones support some video features of the RK3399 I want to use. Interestingly, it does boot if I symlink the new initrd to /boot/uInitrd, but only with the old kernel. Is there something special I need to do to the k…

Hi All, in an attempt speed up my Armbian image build process I put the last build choices in a bash script ./compile.sh BOARD=nanopim4v2 BRANCH=current BUILD_DESKTOP=yes BUILD_MINIMAL=no\ DESKTOP_APPGROUPS_SELECTED='browsers editors'\ DESKTOP_ENVIRONMENT=gnome\ DESKTOP_ENVIRONMENT_CONFIG_NAME=config_base\ KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no RELEASE=jammy but I still get prompted for input when I run the script - what am I doing wrong ?

  87. Having successfuly built and installed an Armbian image I would like to configure the WiFi connection as part of the process. Currently on first boot I have to connect a network cable to the SBC and run armbian-config to configure the WiFi manually which is a bit of a drag when I'm updating 5 boards. Is this doable ?

Hi all, I'm following a tutorial by @NicoD on building an Armbian image, the problem I have, is, my board ( NanoPiM4V2 ) isn't shown in the picklist - I 've tried one of the many RK3399 offerings ( Rockchip64 ) but whilst it built ok it didn't boot, anyone here know which board I should use ? Edit I found if you pass EXPERT=yes as a parameter to the install script the board is listed - I'm building it now and will post back the result End edit

  91. If you want to build out-of-tree kernel modules, you will need: kernel headers (installed with apt) kernel sources in /usr/src (cloned from git) kernel config (from /proc/config.gz) some preparation of the sources (but you can avoid building it 😉) # Install kernel headers apt install -y linux-headers-legacy-rk35xx # Install kernel source cd /usr/src git clone https://github.com/armbian/linux-rockchip.git ln -nsf linux-rockchip linux-5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx cd linux-rockchip git checkout rk-5.10-rkr6 # Prepare kernel source zcat /proc/config.gz >.config yes | make olddefconfig make prepare modules_prepare cp /usr/src/linux-headers-$…

  92. Hey, I am working with Weston-7 alongside Lima driver with MESA v19 to render using MALI450 on the display but it isn't rendering it properly. I thought the issue is with MESA so I upgraded it to v20 and applied required patches for Weston-7, but still the result is same and there is no improvement. I have attached the video link below of Weston terminal on the display for reference. Weston render Any idea what I might be missing here?

  93. The most resent build 24.5.0-trunk.93 does not have comedi drivers included. I tried to build them with the armbian build system, but it is exclude there. How I can change that so that I can include these drivers. I have a bunch of data aquisition system relying on this drivers that I ran with a rockpi 4c+ Any hint appreciate, Thomas

At least for legacy kernels, it possible to use Radxa's overlay for the 25W PoE hat. This should allow you to use the PWM fan on the PoE hat. #!/bin/bash # Install linux headers apt-get install -y linux-headers-legacy-rk35xx # Download and compile the device tree overlay h=/usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r) wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/radxa/overlays/f2679399887b678dec62cb50cb44c767a2bcb293/arch/arm64/boot/dts/rockchip/overlays/rock-5b-radxa-25w-poe.dts cpp -nostdinc -I $h/include -I $h/arch -undef -x assembler-with-cpp rock-5b-radxa-25w-poe.dts | dtc -I dts -O dtb -o rock-5b-radxa-25w-poe.dtbo # Install device tree overlay mkdir -p /…

  97. Started by oscarj,

I have managed to install mainline u-boot on my 5B. i copied the 5It boots from both MMC and the SD. To boot from the sd, you have to interrupt the boot process and tell it to boot from MMC0. the default boot order is: mmc1 mmc0 nvme scsi usb pxe dhcp spi I've tried a number of things to correct the issue but none worked. In the aliases section of rk3588s-orangepi-5b.dts, I had to device sdchi as MMC0 (it really is MMC1). Not it boots like it should. Is there a better way to get u-boot to boot from SD card first? Thanks!

  99. Are there any plans to make a version with the new Rockchip 6.1 kernel available for Orange Pi 5/5+? Joshua Riek seems to have had some success, he even got the Panfork drivers running. I run a headless server though so even without graphics it would be interesting but I use Debian.
