With the prior image and kernel 5.10.110 I was able to run compile.sh and produce the linux-source-legacy-rockchip-rk3588_23.02.0-trunk_all.deb which provided the kernel source in /usr/src/linux-source-5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588.tar.xz. I downloaded the latest img which provides kernel 5.10.160 which booted fine. However, running the same compile.sh process I used previously with success produced the older deb package that contains the 5.10.110 kernel source. There were a couple of errors displayed. My compile.sh command is: ./compile.sh BOARD=orangepi5 BRANCH=legacy BUILD_ONLY=kernel RELEASE=jammy KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no The first error encountered was …

My experience so far: 1. Booting up (Jammy/Bullseye) from SD, HDMI out to 1440p display cuts off text at the bottom. It affects installation and later use. I need to press ENTER several times to all questions until text moves up in the buffer and becomes visible, and then blindly type the answer to proceed to the next step, then several ENTERs to scroll again, and so on. I noticed the new images with 23.5 but I have an older installation, then went to nightly, I just switched back to the official, I ran dist-upgrade but when I boot, the system shows Armbian 23.02. Am I missing something to get 23.5?

I did a fresh install of armbian jammy 23.5 cli on my orangepi 5 (I previously used 22.11 and 23.02), and I cannot reboot. "sudo reboot" just hangs the system. Not really a big deal, just somewhat annoying, because previous versions runs fine. Anybody else experiencing the same problem? "armbianmonitor -U" output is attached. armbianu.txt

booted opi5 via nvme one day and the boot screen mentions about btrfs partition missing even tho it was using ext4 partition. booted via sdcard and the root partition is entirely missing on the nvme. the boot partition is still there and working. not sure if relevant but the previous time i shut the opi5 down, i forgot to unplug it and it was plugged in for about an hour after shutdown with the red led and fan on. the nvme is kingspec which while cheap doesnt seem to have that many bad reports online that i can find (the boot partition was fine so i suspect kingspec isnt at fault). the power adapter is a 25w phone charger w/ pd/qs; it hasnt exhibited any weird behavior (l…

Hello Armbian forum, I need to have a GPIO interrupt on Orange PI5. I have successfully installed WiringOP and I am using it with C code. The problem is that the interrupt is not working, and I am receiving the following error. How can I proceed? Does anyone know how to enable the WiringOP interrupt on the GPIO PIN? Hi, Armbian_23.02.2_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110 works well with my OPI5. I can ssh to and play with it from my Debian desktop. After updating my Orange Pi 5 I no longer can use the "opi5-i2c5-m3" overlay in /boot/armbianEnv.txt to activate and use i2c. with clean install of armbian plus those 4 lines to install hardware acceleration glmark2-es2 gives score of about 800-900, about less then 25% of performance opi5 is capable. is it possible to raise that a bit, not all the way but just a bit more without instaling gnome or wayland, just to keep armbian as clean as its possible. as it is, its stable but barely(they do run) able to run 4k youtube oe 4k mkv, as soon as there is gnome and wayland it starts to crash, joshua rieks version, monka, armbian with all the drivers, any i tried it would crash eventualy.

Hi all, I'm trying to debug a sporadic problem with my Orange Pi 5 (16GB) which I'm unable to reproduce. I'm hoping maybe someone else experienced a similar issue or at least has any pointers on how to debug it further. The problem: At random times of the day, the board just appears to freeze up. All communications stop. Board is powered on, with red LED on and green LED off. I have to manually unplug the device to reset it. Within the last 2 weeks, this happened 3 times already. Each time, the last log appears to be a journalctl flush (example: https://pastebin.com/dDm5Xtis - the board froze at midnight, no more logs until …

Hello, I'm planning on running a k3s cluster with Rook storage with a few of the Orange Pi 5 that I got. A prerequisite for rook however is RBD module. I've been able to recompile the kernel including RBD support, however I've been unable to get the device to boot from the new kernel. Rebooting after kernel has been built and installed still reports Linux 5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588. Any help would be appreciated. I've since wiped the boxes clean and have a fresh install booting from SSD with the OS installed on the NVMe attached so I will be able to provide any information required. Thanks!

Hello, I am running Armbian 23.05 "minimal" (with the provided kernel 5.10.110) on my OrangePI 5 4GB. Upgraded all packets to latest. When trying to run GeekBench 5.5.1 ARM Preview, it reboots when approaching the end of multicore tests, with "performance" governor and default speed range (0.4 - 2.4 GHz for A76). Same goes if I drop the max clock speed to 2.2 for A76. After dropping to 2.0 GHz max, it runs fine; but this hurts performances quite a bit. I tried various power sources, including a bench PSU which can reliably supply up to 30A (but I only see a few spikes over 2A). The board has a large heatsink installed wit…

I have no sound over hdmi with my Orange pi 5. I have tried installing alsamixer and alsatools but this reports no settings to adjust. I have looked in files-boot-config for the sound settings and line 5242 says HDMI analogue is not set. I tried altering that to =y but I am not allowed to alter anything here and save it, ( oh how linux loves denying you permission). Does anyone know how to apply some common sense to this, why do the Armbian developers think it is a good idea not to have sound over HDMI, there is no option at al to select this in sound settings. Yours extremely miffed.

The OPI5 has an onboard RTC. On the back of the board near the RTC chip there are two pcb "test points". One says RTC1, the other says GRD1, I would assume a CR2032 could be connected to those points to maintain RTC function. I don't dare do anything till I get a solid answer. Can anyone give me any feedback as to options.

I'm looking to try an OPi5 for GPGPU. After seeing trunk recently added the patches needed to use the "gofaster" option for panfork, and having seen reports of glmark2 scores of 4000 and 5000 while never coming close to that myself, I decided to pull together the various bits of info out there and just try all of the options. A number of things done below are often described vaguely -- hopefully it's helpful here to lay out a concrete set of steps to follow and what to expect. There are two options for accelerated video: panfork and ARM's closed source "blob" driver. With either option, it sounds like you should switch from X11 to Wayland. If you are looking a…

Hello!! I just got my Orange Pi 5 the other day and am trying to 'port' a program I've been working on for RPi4b over to this new board. The program is using ffmpeg to decode h264 and hevc video streams. My main question is how do I need to configure the ffmpeg codex context and formats to make use of (ideally zero copy) HW accelerated video decode on Orange Pi 5? For the raspberry code I was using these: avcodec_find_decoder_by_name("hevc"); and avcodec_find_decoder_by_name("h264_v4l2m2m"); together with codec_context->pix_fmt = AV_PIX_FMT_DRM_PRIME; // for zero copy video path But this does not work when compil…

Hi all, recently I installed the Mali GPU Drivers from the instructions on the official Armbian website. I have Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy installed, with KDE Plasma desktop. I found two problems: 1. The mouse flickers when I move it. This happens on both XFCE and Plasma (X11) 2. Every once in a while, the Plasma panels freeze and I have to reboot my OPI to get it to work. This also happens if I right-click on it and press "Enter Edit Mode". If I don't do that, it freezes randomly (afaik). This affects both the panels and the background (panels don't update, can't interact, cannot right-click). Does anyone know of any solutions to this? Thanks!

I am waiting on my opi5 but was already investigating how to run Roblox (an x86 32 bit Windows game) on it. Grapejuice + box86 + wine could do the trick and saw this interesting script: https://github.com/NicoD-SBC/armbian-gaming Will this be working for opi5 too or is it specific to rk3399 (saw that in some compiler flags)? Anybody experience or an updated installer script? Related info: This YouTube channel covers examples of running games on rk3588 (rock5b) making me believe performance could be quite good: https://youtube.com/@TheByteman

Hi all, I’m new to this whole SBC thing, and I recently got an Orange Pi 5. I first installed the official OS (Ubuntu), where I needed to do into orangepi-config and go into System > Hardware > wifi-ap6275p and enable that to use the official M.2 WiFi dongle. However, I don’t see this option on Armbian. Does it not support it?

Hi, I've trouble getting 3840x2160 resolution to work. When I try to switch to that resolution the monitor says resolution is 3848x2160 and display is all garbled. 2560x1440 works fine. I've been trying to implement traffic shaping using tc. But it seems that ingress is not working. I am running Armbian Minimal Server on Orange Pi 5. Running this command: tc qdisc add dev eth0 ingress Will throw an error: Error: Specified qdisc kind is unknown. This has been working for orange pi pc/one armbian. Does the ingress module missing from this build? Can anyone point me to the right direction. Thanks.

So recently I flashed Orange Pi OS to SD card, booted from there, updated system, firmware and flashed bootloader to SPI flash. I already had an external HDD with Armbian flashed, and tried to boot from there, but no luck. Afterwards, I tried to boot Armbian from SD card, but I can't boot any system that is not Orange Pi OS (and especifically, it needs to be from SD card, can't also boot from USB even in OPi OS). Tried with different SD cards and USB devices, no luck I believe I need to erase SPI flash in order to boot from SD again, but, how can I do it? Used latest OrangePi OS and Armbian Jammy CLI from 23/01 (stable release)

I finally found an official source code on the download page of OrangePI that has a version of wiring pi with support for the Orange PI 5 - unfortunately that code is not on the github of orangepi yet. What would be the best way to get this code and the gpio tool into armbian? Build a PPA and package for that one? I don't mind forking their repo and adding the mods but I'm not familiar with generating debian packages.

Only sharing what I managed to make working on the Orange Pi5: a Tvheadend server with satellite cards TBS 5527 and TBS 5520se. The rough path I followed: - recompiled the kernel in order to have "Linux tv" as a module (CCONFIG_DVB_CORE=m). This will be replaced by the tbs driver in next steps. - installed TVheadend from the armbian-config - compiled tbs drivers by following standards instructions....but: - had to add a CFGLAGS += -w to avoid some warning stopping the build (Makefile in the v4l directory) - had to disable the creation of the mc.ko (MEDIA_CONTROL) to avoid conflict with kernel built-in module (n…

Hello, I have a problem with mounting a USB HD via fstab. If I enter the HD in the fstab, the system hangs when booting. The problem, USB is not activated yet and will be loaded later. If I remove the HD from fstab, it is automatically mounted under /run/media/USER. However, this must not be mounted under a user, but should be mounted as root. What can I do. Thanks very much

I am trying to build the kernel with the standards scripts, but directly on my orange pi 5. The build is stopping at some point because of a Warning issued by the compiler (this is the default behaviour for the compiler who does not tolerate any warning by default). (Some functions in the C code are depreciated, thus a warning is issue) How can I set the CFLAGS so that the kernel build takes it into account during compilation? Thanks.

I have an Orange Pi 5 (16GB RAM) running Armbian Jammy with the latest updates installed. I am booting from NVMe and when it boots successfully it runs flawlessly without issue. The problem occurs when I reboot -- the majority of the time it does not boot up successfully. Sometimes when it boots I only see the red light (and no green light), and other times I will see the green light flash like normal, yet the external hard drive does not spin up or mount properly. This results in me needing to power down the Orange Pi 5 and try again. Eventually it will boot up successfully (along with the external HDD) and then everything is good; that is, until the next time I have to …

Hello, finally I have time to play with my OPI5, first thing I tried is to install on USB-C, but the port doesn't seem to work. Then I tried to install using USB3 port, on a ssd drive. The armbian-install utility seems to do the job and after installing the bootloader on mtdblock0 I powered off. At reboot everything is like before: if I remove the sd card the systen won't boot. If I boot with the sd card inserted the root partition is on /dev/mmcblk0p2 First thing that came into my mind is to mount SPI and check if bootloader is ok, but I'm unable to mount it: ~# mount /dev/mtdblock0 /mnt/spi mount: /mnt/spi: wrong fs type, bad optio…

Hi there, Just got Orange Pi 5 8GB and have no idea where to begin. I have a microSD card available, but no writer. I had the idea to boot from USB thumbstick and then write the SD card using the port on the Orange Pi 5, then I can boot from SD card. Is this possible? What image and method do I need to follow in order to boot from a simple 32GB USB Sandisk thumbstick? Thank you!

I saw that you now have a stable release of armbian for opi5. I installed Armbian 23.02.0-trunk.0112 Bullseye a week ago. Now I'm wondering if it is possible to switch back to the stable version without reinstalling the system. The OPI is now running in production and I have several containers running on it. This is what I tried -> armbian-config -> system -> nightly after that back to stable -> armbian-config -> system -> stable ->armbian-config -> system -> other -> linux-image-legacy-rockchip-rk3588=22.11.4 But after login I always see: Welcome to Armbian 23.02.0-trun…

I did a bit of reading - to prevent ubuntu packages to update the rockchip optimized packages, you need to pin the packages. There is a simple way to do that. 1. Create a file called rockchip-multimedia-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-rockchip-multimedia Pin-Priority: 600 2. Create a file called panfork-mesa-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-liujianfeng1994-panfork-mesa Pin-Priority: 600 You can verify that the apt configuration is working correctly with sudo apt policy chromium-browser which should return chrom…

I found this amazing page https://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi-Cedrus#VLC that explains alot on VLC and hardware accelleration but I cannot clearly figure out if my playback is using hardware acceleration. I did follow all the steps to optimize chromium with the ppu sources - chromium doesn't work well yet for me - so not sure if that install worked as expected. My playback of h264 in VLC is super smooth but I have around 20-35% cpu usage (1080p videos) - I know h264 is more demanding than AV1 but someone reported AV1 with 15% CPU usage and 4k. Is there anything I can do to make sure the hardware acceleration is working (aka the VA-API is used)?

I am attempting to install the file Armbian_23.02.0-trunk.0112_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_cinnamon_desktop.img from https://www.armbian.com/orangepi-5/ but the installation hangs at the point where the root password should be entered. The same happens with the file Armbian_23.02.0-trunk.0112_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_minimal.img. If i use the file Armbian_22.11.3_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_cinnamon_desktop.img from the Github archive the installation completes. I have tried to raise a bug but the only solution for not booting are hardware and the installation has not progressed far enough to enter any commands. Any assistance welcomed.

Not sure if the rolling release includes the UART dtb yet, but when I build my own image (jammy xfce kernel 5.10.110) I don't have the UART dtbs in /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/ . As a result, I couldn't add uart0-m2 to /boot/armbianEnv.txt and get /dev/ttyS0 when I was following the official user manual to enable UART. After some researching I managed to solve this by copying the dtb file from orange pi's official ubuntu image to /boot/overlay-user and enable UART with user_overlays=rk3588-uart0-m2 in armbianEnv.txt . Rebooted and it works. However, I suppose it would be better to include the dts files in kernel patches? I'm posting this because I don't know what…

I have seen the uefi port for Rock 5B, which uses rk3588. seed this the opi5 use rk3588s which may lack some IOs, so I think maybe it can work on opi5 without modification.
