  1. Hi I need help, I have used in the past the Banana PI M1 card for many years with a SATA Port Multiplier. To enable PMP support for this card, you had to edit: nano /boot/boot.cmd Go to line that starts with: setenv bootargs and add at the bottom of the row: ahci_sunxi.enable_pmp=1 recompile with: mkimage -C none -A arm -T script -d /boot/boot.cmd /boot/boot.scr Restart Almbian and the SATA Port Multiplier was activated. I now own a RockPro64 with Armbian and a 6-port PCIE sata card. Should buy a card with 8-10 ports to add hdd that I will need to make backups. …

  2. I am considering to buy a RK3399 dev board and use USB 3.0 peripheral mode to transfer data to/from another host PC. It may be used as USB CDC/Eth or RNDIS device, or a MTP device. We hope the transfer rate could be well over 1Gbps, the higher, the better. So has anybody ever benchmarked RK3399 USB in peripheral mode? Such as the highest iperf transfer rate in CDC/Eth or RNDIS mode?

  4. I just started RockPro64'ing (though been using Linux for about 25 years) and bought the low profile fan with the RockPro64. Armbian (downloaded today) installed fine, sees my NVME etc. so all good. The only issue I have is that once the OS starts up the fan comes on and never stops - it seems to be running 100% all the time. It the speed meant to vary? And is it meant to turn off sometimes when not required? I'm wondering if I am I missing a config file entry for this. Thanks for any assistance and well done on the distro.

  7. Hello people, I use a Tinker Board as a low power desktop computer for browsing, office documents and general tinkering, and after all this time it got personalized enough to worry about loosing all this setup and it is a hassle to just overwrite everything every time a new image comes around. Was wondering if it is possible to use apt dist-upgrade as means to get from Bionic Desktop 5.4 to Focal Desktop 5.4 as can be done on x86 platforms without breaking everything?

  8. I logged an issue a little while ago with Armbian running on the Tinkerboard that the screen when rotated 90 degrees couldn't draw the screen at any speed. I have been playing with a few alternatives incl going back to the original tinkeros. All have issues so I was delighted to see the FOCAL port. I am using the recommended Waveshare 7" touchscreen that you advertise on the home page as tested 3rd party hardware. Both the desktop and the server versions of Focal come up with the error Configure crtc 0 failed setting mode when I manually set the supported resolution of 1024 x 600 at 60Hz using xrandr Exactly the same settings on TinkerOS works perfectl…

  10. Hello people, I have an Asus Tinker Board S and decided to use the Mainline Armbian for this board, love the new panfrost driver but seems it is glitching all over the place, icons in the menu disappear and reappear when mouse hovers over them, tick boxes do not show if they are ticked and only flicker when mouse is over them and applications menu keep redrawing all over when trying to use among the most prominent problems. Other operating systems work well in this matter. Anyone else is having these problems with the mainline 5.4.28 kernel build?

  12. However, Armbian is configured to provide only spidev2.0, while TinkerOS can have spidev0.0, spidev0.1, spidev2.0 and spidev2.1 all enabled at the same time as long as you disable UART4 which shares GPIO header pins with SPI0. In the TinkerOS case, there is a config tool which edits a small and straightforward text file in /boot/ containing lines such as "intf:spi0=on" or "intf:uart4=off". The corresponding Armbian file seems to be /boot/armbianEnv.txt - possibly with overlays=... lines and DTS files. There also is a tool called armbian-add-overlay to load (at runtime?) DTS files...

  16. So recently I decided to use my (quite old) tinker board, I downloaded the last armbian (desktop, 4.4.213) OS, managed to install a vncserver (x11vnc) and also to use it without a screen plugged in it. And now I would like to turn it into a urbackup server, but I got some error with mdadm, "Module md_mod not found in directory /lib/modules/4.4.213-rockchip". I tried to use this forum to find a solution (https://github.com/armbian/build), but I couldn't make it work. 18. So I have armbian installed on a tinkerboard and have had absolutely no issues with it until I bought a new Samsung 7000 series TV (2019). For some reason this TV does not recognize the signal coming from the tinkerboard. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get this to work. I notice a few references online about being able to force a resolution but nothing related to the rockchip boards. Is there an equivalent way to force a display resolution as in this article? https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Allwinner/#how-to-reconfigure-video-output I'm running 4.19.21-rockchip 5.76 I've also tried kernel 5.4.28 as well an…

  19. Hi, I installed "Armbian_20.02.7_Tinkerboard_buster_current_5.4.28_minimal" at my tinkerboard and, in order to enable uart 4, I had to rebuild the kernel onboard (from linux-source-current-rockchip_20.02.7_all.deb). 20. Topic to discuss RK3288 overlays, primarily concerning ASUS Tinker Board, the MiQi is technically EOL and has very little GPIO anyway, and TV boxes are more or less sealed. Kernel 4.19 will be the pilot for this, the discussion now that it seems to be working thanks to @martinayotte and @zador.blood.stained's feedback and examples is what to overlay. For testing/debugging I started with some ASUS overlays for RTC and 1wire. Easy ones: spidev out of the default tree but as default overlays. instead of making 1 overlay and messing with parameters, just make 2 overlays DAC's: I don't have a lot of hardware to play with, but @…

  21. Hi. I installed Armbian_20.02.1_Tinkerboard_bionic_current_5.4.20_desktop on my TinkerBoard (not S) and get weird screen state (white, then growing black circle in the middle). I tried Armbian_20.02.1_Tinkerboard_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop and it works very good, but I still want to test vulkan driver, so I updated only kernel to 4.19 (install linux-image-next-rockchip, linux-header-next-rockchip, linux-dtb-next-rockchip and delete 3 old packages). After reboot I got same screen. Is it known bug? Can it be related, that I'm using HDMI-to-VGA adapter? Can you help me to fix it or get usefull logs?

  23. Hi! On the Rockpro64, with the latest Amrbian dev kernel (5.4.0-rc1-rockchip64 updated on 19th of January), the sata hard drive connected to PCIe through the pine store adapter does not go to sleep anymore. It is properly set with hdparm and a udev rule, it used to work fine with the dev kernel before the 19th of January update. Now, if I issue a sleep commd (hdpram -y /dev/sda) it goes to sleep properly but not by itself after the 5 minutes inactivity I have set up. Mathias

  24. I have a TinkerBoard S. In Bionic Desktop (kernel 4.4), the wireless icon menu lists two devices: wlan0 (which is the expected interface) and p2p0: I don't know this one, but it is always chosen for auto-connecting to the local wireless lan, receiving a random IP and not the one I configured on the router. I can then manually connect to the network with the wlan0 interface the IP is correct. How do I disable / remove / anyway stop that p2p0 interface to "steal" the network connection?

  26. Hello, I own a Tinker Board S (bought one or two years ago) attached to a Sony Bravia KDL 22EX320 TV by HDMI, which has a native resolution of 1388x768 pixels. Bionic desktop with kernel 5.4 (got from https://dl.armbian.com/tinkerboard/Bionic_current_desktop) didn't properly recognize the TV resolution, but set it to 1920x1024. If I run xrandr --props the resolution is not listed. 27. I have Tinker Board S. I have been using both Tinker OS and Armbian for a while. Recently I upgraded to 5.4.28-rockchip. I noticed that randomly and frequently when I watch cnn.com or other media, my video would freeze. Initially I thought the firefox or chromium crashes. In order to enumerate the major issues that are *still* valid now, I'm creating a 'crash dump' thread. The idea is simple, if your RK3399 board crashed recently, you just : Write what happened during the crash; Provide the link you got from sudo armbianmonitor -u , after the crash happened; Provide the content of /var/log/kern.log (if this file is present on your system) (attach it or copy the content on pastebin and link it here). No discussion here. Feel free to create a new dedicated thread afterwards to talk about the problem you encountered. Minor issues are welcome too, if they trigger a BUG message in your logs…

  29. On several RockPro64 boards I experience infrequent freezes, mostly directly on boot, but also after some longer (hours, days) uptime. I use the official power adapter and no additional hardware except a PCIe adapter for an SSD, which works flawlessly when operational. When looking at the kern.log, there are quite a few errors and warnings, but comparing to a successful boot these are all also present. So I don't think they cause the freeze directly. Currently, I recorded the freeze on the latest Armbian Bionic as release just recently. FWIW, I think the same issue also occurs on the previous Debian Stretch image (had various freezes, but have not …

  33. There's an issue with Panfrost and Mesa 19.3 that causes X11 to crash in "OsLookupColor" which you may run into on Armbian on RK3399 devices; it can be solved by enabling the experimental branch in your /etc/apt/sources.list by adding the following line: deb http://deb.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free You can then run 'apt update' and install experimental branch packages with 'apt -t experimental install <package>'. To fix the crash in X11, update the following from experimental: libegl-mesa0 libgbm1 libgl1-mesa-dri libglapi-mesa libglx-mesa0 mesa-va-drivers mesa-vdpau-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers This should allow X11 …

Hi! I'm using Armbian with Ayufan's 5.3.0rc4 kernel (until ~1 month ago when I decided to freeze the dev kernels, they were not able to expose the pwmon for the fan that I need to keep running to cool my nas case). But I've seen lots of updates flying around about uboot. So I am wondering: are there significant improvements to uboot? I am currently using an old version of uboot on the SPI flash (so it is a little painful to test new version) and I am wondering if I should disable my SPI in order to have uboot on my emmc (to boot off the emmc) or if there is even a newer option to reflash my spi with a newer uboot... Thanks, Mathias PS: so…

  51. Hello people, I am trying to set CPU Governors but all the cores change to the same clock and cpufreq-info reports "CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0 1 2 3", with that even one thread working is making the CPU scale up all clocks and heat more than it should, is there a way to unlink them and each one have their own clocks according to each core processing load?

  52. Hello, I'm using a RockPro64 boards inside one of my projects and I just noticed an issue related to the reset process. When pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a reset loop. Using the oscilloscope, I found that the reset signal (OTP_OUT_H) is toggled every 330ms by the CPU and the only way to get it back to work is to power off the board, wait a few seconds, and power it back. The same issue is found if, after a working boot, a quick power cycle is performed. I tried disconnecting everything from the board but still, when pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a loop condition (as if it’s constantly crashing at boot). …

Initial tests show that OS stability, board performance and form factor make the tinkerboardS a good substitute for the raspi. We have tried to turn off serial2 by removing the UART2 overlay and adding 'console=display' in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and also disabling & masking serial-getty@ttyS2.service but that hasn't stopped pin 32 from being chatty when connected to the hostboard. 90. I'm using Armbian on a Tinker Board S. I did the installation back when the 4.4 kernel was still the default one. I expected that I'd get the newer 4.19 kernel by using 'apt update && apt dist-upgrade' at some point as it would become the new stable. This does not seem to be the case however, as I see the new downloads use 4.19 by default, but the stable package still points to a 4.4 kernel. Is it recommended to just move up by installing the kernel package with the next suffix or are there still reasons to wait with upgrading?
