  3. I am trying to compile a new kernel in order to support some satellite receiver tuner (from TBS). I did that successfully (In February 2023) on Orange Pi 5 with Linux kernel 5.10.110, but I am struggling doing it with Orange PI 5 Plus with Linux 5.10.160 (jammy). Basically I would like to turn as Modules lots of CONFIG_VIDEOBUF2_*, in order to replace the modules with the ones compiled separately (that I know are working fine with my TBS USD card). These are my issues: - I do not manage to set separately those CONFIG_VIDEOBUF2_* through the menu config. - Thus I tried to set the whole "multimedia support" as a module and go…

  4. I'm looking for information about the Ethernet chip on the Orange Pi 5. I need an SBC that has PTP hardware timestamp support (IEEE 1588). According to OrangePi.org, the Orange Pi 5 has the Motorcomm YT8531C, but I have not been able to find documentation that provides the answer about hardware PTP support. Most likely it does not, but I'd like to confirm on an actual device before purchasing one. If you have an Orange Pi 5, you can test this with this command: ls /sys/class/net |xargs -n1 ethtool -T If there is someone that is willing to run this command and post the output, I would appreciate it very much. 7. Hi, newbie here again.... I recently switched to Armbian from Orange Pi Ubuntu. I am running Armbian 23.8.1 Jammy with Linux 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx My issue is a noticeable slowdown in NVME performance. 8. Are there any USB WiFi adapters that are supported out of the box? Nothing fancy, just looking for a cheap readily available USB WiFi adapter that doesn't require finding kernel headers and downloading modules to compile that will then be wiped out by the next release. I am currently using Armbian_23.02.0-trunk.0220_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_xfce_desktop.img installed and booting from a 256GB NVME drive. The enp1s0 interface seems to reliably come up, but not with the right config (sometimes it uses the config for enp1s0 and sometimes for eth0). I am trying to assign status IP addresses (on different networks) to each interface, but because of the unreliable bringup of the network interfaces, I can't get a config that starts up correctly and consistency on reboots or cold boots. If I run the Orange PI5 plus with the same SD card as the Orange Pi 5, would it work? If not, is there an easy thing to do to make it work? I think there is a device tree file hardware specific , but is it read when compiling the kernel or dynamically? I am asking because processors are very similar, and it would make my life easier! On my Orange Pi 5, I have successfully installed the X11VNC server. I followed the guide at the following link X11VNC and everything works as expected. I can connect with Real VNC from another device and see the desktop of the Orange Pi as if I were in front of its display. However, when the Orange Pi 5 is powered on without a display connected to the HDMI port, the access with Real VNC doesn't work as before. I get a black screen and I am unable to interact with the Orange Pi. I had a similar issue with Raspberry Pi, where I could resolve it by setting a default screen resolution. How can I achieve this with Armbian? How can I configure an alternative resolution when the…

  52. Thank you all for this series of notes. I have been operating Armbian 22.08 successfully using the sd card on my PBP and like it BUT I would like to boot from emm. I have tried dozens of ways to install it to no avail. Seems to be associated with the rootdev=UUID=... If I use the UUID provided in the Armbian-install then I can boot from emm but it ends up mounting and running from the SD partition. Is there any code that can be inserted into the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file that would provide better diagnostics? To me it appears as if the emm partitions UUID is not available at boot time. Thanks, Carl

  53. Hi there, I've been using ARMbian for a couple of years now under a Rock Pi S board. I'm using an ARMbian OS image based on kernel 4.4x because it have a virtual wlan interface called P2P0, this allow me to use the board as WiFi repeater, I've written a post about it here. However, in recent ARMbian OS images with kernel 5.x and 6.x that virtual interface isn't there. I see in ARMbian OS image with kernel 6.x that the WiFi Hotspot set up menu in the armbian-config tool show an interface called p2p0-dev, but it doesn't work. My question: why? these newer kernels have limitations on this board? or maybe need to compile the kernel with custom modifications?. …

  54. Hi, does anyone know how to get hardware video acceleration on orange 4 lts? I've looked around and I saw that rk3399's multimedia support can be enabled using the rk3399 legacy multimedia framework. But that requires a legacy buster image, which doesn't exist for the orange pi. I've tried to compile it myself, but it seems the compile script won't allow it. Is it really impossible to compile a legacy kernel for orange pi 4 lts?

  57. With the prior image and kernel 5.10.110 I was able to run compile.sh and produce the linux-source-legacy-rockchip-rk3588_23.02.0-trunk_all.deb which provided the kernel source in /usr/src/linux-source-5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588.tar.xz. 73. Ok so I think I have this figured out. It doesn't work at all in Armbian 23.05.1 with the 6.x kernel no matter what I try. It does work in the older Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy (kernel 5.15.93) but the given instructions didn't work for me and needed additional commands. I had to enable the rk3328-opp-1.5ghz overlay or else the max frequency was locked to 1296 MHz. I also found the MAX_SPEED value in the instructions to be too low. To get it to work in 23.02.2: First you have to enable the rk3328-opp-1.5ghz overlay in armbian-config (System > Hardware > rk3328-opp-1.5ghz) or just add it to the overlays line in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and reboot. Does anyone know how to apply some common sense to this, why do the Armbian developers think it is a good idea not to have sound over HDMI, there is no option at al to select this in sound settings.
