Has anyone run a comparison benchmark of Armbian vs. the Orange pi versions of Debian and Ubuntu? ...Curious to see the results of optimizations.

Hi all, I’m new to this whole SBC thing, and I recently got an Orange Pi 5. I first installed the official OS (Ubuntu), where I needed to do into orangepi-config and go into System > Hardware > wifi-ap6275p and enable that to use the official M.2 WiFi dongle. However, I don’t see this option on Armbian. Does it not support it?

Hi, I've trouble getting 3840x2160 resolution to work. When I try to switch to that resolution the monitor says resolution is 3848x2160 and display is all garbled. 2560x1440 works fine. Also, If I try to login to Gnome (Wayland) I get blank screen and I'm back at the login screen. X11 lets me login to the system. uname -a: Linux lindon 5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588 #trunk.0184 SMP Fri Jan 20 18:24:04 UTC 2023 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux I've fetched the latest updates (apt update && apt upgrade) and I've just ran firmware update using armbian-config. Edit: display is connected via usb-c - - > displayport cable.

  5. I am trying to use a tpm module that attaches to GPIO pins and uses SPI. The manufacturer provides examples that use overlays from Raspbian, and those overlays seem to reference infineon and slb9670, neither of which I can find in armbian source. Anyone know if there is a way to enable SPI tpm?

  8. So recently I flashed Orange Pi OS to SD card, booted from there, updated system, firmware and flashed bootloader to SPI flash. I already had an external HDD with Armbian flashed, and tried to boot from there, but no luck. Afterwards, I tried to boot Armbian from SD card, but I can't boot any system that is not Orange Pi OS (and especifically, it needs to be from SD card, can't also boot from USB even in OPi OS). Tried with different SD cards and USB devices, no luck I believe I need to erase SPI flash in order to boot from SD again, but, how can I do it? Used latest OrangePi OS and Armbian Jammy CLI from 23/01 (stable release)

  25. I'm looking to try an OPi5 for GPGPU. After seeing trunk recently added the patches needed to use the "gofaster" option for panfork, and having seen reports of glmark2 scores of 4000 and 5000 while never coming close to that myself, I decided to pull together the various bits of info out there and just try all of the options. A number of things done below are often described vaguely -- hopefully it's helpful here to lay out a concrete set of steps to follow and what to expect. There are two options for accelerated video: panfork and ARM's closed source "blob" driver. With either option, it sounds like you should switch from X11 to Wayland. If you are looking a…

Hi all, I am trying to recover after a failed NVMe install. I have a working install on an SDCard, but I think my board no longer boots to SDCard, since I flashed the bootloader via armbian-install. 33. Hi everyone, New to the forum, so apologies if the questions are answered elsewhere, but please redirect me if they are. I have identified a bug in the `armbian-install` script in the current Bullseye Edge image (Dec 19,2022) that prevents it showing NVMe targets in the installation prompt if they don't have a valid filesystem on them. This appears to have been fixed on the 19th of December in this commit (the grep for filesystems was removed from the lsblk command that returns valid partitions). https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/893ed2347d97af574becf69dee1166a1bf933081#diff-8752ea87e0340f217187b70f7b08735d872a14c0467d02a6285222e594db3299L63…

I found this amazing page https://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi-Cedrus#VLC that explains alot on VLC and hardware accelleration but I cannot clearly figure out if my playback is using hardware acceleration. I did follow all the steps to optimize chromium with the ppu sources - chromium doesn't work well yet for me - so not sure if that install worked as expected. My playback of h264 in VLC is super smooth but I have around 20-35% cpu usage (1080p videos) - I know h264 is more demanding than AV1 but someone reported AV1 with 15% CPU usage and 4k. Is there anything I can do to make sure the hardware acceleration is working (aka the VA-API is used)?

  47. I know this driver should be part of the recent kernel releases (and definitely avail for 5.10) but I am not sure how/why/where this driver would be in the armbian release. I also did install the firmware files but I don't see the module in the /usr/lib/module section. Any suggestions to build or enable this driver? Thanks

Not sure if the rolling release includes the UART dtb yet, but when I build my own image (jammy xfce kernel 5.10.110) I don't have the UART dtbs in /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/ . As a result, I couldn't add uart0-m2 to /boot/armbianEnv.txt and get /dev/ttyS0 when I was following the official user manual to enable UART. After some researching I managed to solve this by copying the dtb file from orange pi's official ubuntu image to /boot/overlay-user and enable UART with user_overlays=rk3588-uart0-m2 in armbianEnv.txt . Rebooted and it works. However, I suppose it would be better to include the dts files in kernel patches? I'm posting this because I don't know what…

  51. Hello, I'm planning on running a k3s cluster with Rook storage with a few of the Orange Pi 5 that I got. A prerequisite for rook however is RBD module. I've been able to recompile the kernel including RBD support, however I've been unable to get the device to boot from the new kernel. Rebooting after kernel has been built and installed still reports Linux 5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588. Any help would be appreciated. 93. Dear Armbian community, Yesterday morning, after apt upgrade my Rockpro64 not boot (the white and red led stayed lit). After some tries I managed to get a boot again but I now have a "init not found" error, as you can see on the screenshot. What have been done so far : - Install an Ubuntu as "debug" platform - Follow the recovery steps from Armbian website - Put on eMMC storage a 5.15.63 by copying the files from Armbian - Check if UUID was consistent between partition, boot config, ... ==> this is the case - Made a fsck : no errors found ==> I would like to try this : https://askubuntu.com/questions/…

  94. Hello! I don't really have a question, but just wanted to report I tried out the generic UEFI arm64 image on a Pinebook Pro, and it installed emmc and booted just fine! This was possible because I had installed Tow-Boot to the SPI flash, which supports UEFI booting. I had tried using the Pinebook Pro build of armbian, which worked fine when booting off the sdcard, but installing it to the emmc wasn't working. I'm using Tow-Boot 2021.10 then arbmian image Armbian_22.08.7_Uefi-arm64_jammy_current_5.15.74 . There's a few rough edges in the grub menu, but it boots the OS off the emmc just fine. Should the…

  95. i'm stuck with this since day 1 but now i upgraded to armbian (with kodi-gbm) i had this problem worse stress testing the board with stress -c 4 doesn't bring the board into shutdown, but logging in to kodi-gbm or using graphical interface? it brings instability all of a sudden. there's no inherent pattern from the shudowns except when i launch kodi or access some files (emby transcoding doesn't cause any instability). anything outside the text mode should cause it to shutdown. weirdly enough, when i removed the USB peripherals (2xUSB HDD, own power supply for both cases) the instability worsens and doesn't boot or sometimes reboot cycle after fsck.ext4 on sta…

  97. Hi all, I have Armbian 22.08.6 Jammy with Linux 5.15.74-rockchip with Desktop running on an "Asus Tinker Board Rev. 1.2". My Problem is that I get no stable HDMI Connection. Picture is appearing and disappearing every few seconds. Changing Cable, Monitors, Resolution and Refreshrate doesn’t change the problem. After Research in the forum I saw that I should provide „armbianmonitor -u“ here: https://paste.armbian.com/oriqiwilah I would be able to compile a custom image, but I don‘t know where to start bugfixing because I am no HDMI Expert. Maybe it has something to do with a Sync-Problem like described …

  98. Hallo!
