  1. I've been having issues lately with the later versions 22.11 and above. At some point when I reboot, I'll get those 3 "Read-only file system" messages on boot: mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/root/.cache/oh-my-zsh’: Read-only file system rm: cannot remove '/root/.zcompdump-orangepizero2-5.8': Read-only file system zsh: locking failed for /root/.zsh_history: read-only file system: reading anyway What is happening?!

  3. There was a huge thread a year ago about enabling SPI on Pine64, but it seemed to sometimes apply to longsleep generated kernel vs what I would think would be an out-of-the box build for Pine64 using the Armbian configuration. It wasn't clear to me exactly what needed to be done with today's build configuration, if anything. My ultimate goal is to integrate the IndustrialBerry ENC28J60 dual ethernet port card with Pine64. http://www.industrialberry.com/ethernetberry-v-1-1/ They have a recipe for RaspPi. I'm hoping there might be a similar type of recipe geared to the Pine64. Using the Armbian configurator, I insured the SPI bits were enabled (…

  8. Dear friends! I have a project, where I needed to use 4 infrared receivers and 2 transmitters connected to GPIO. After a lot of research I realized how to cook all stuffs together: So I have Pine64 A64 512MB cards (not the plus model), running Armbian 20.05.0-trunk.038 nightly, (uname -r: 5.4.18-sunxi64). I needed to freeze upgrades for two reasons: Boot hangs up: The armbian thinks that I have the plus model: on every upgrade I need to replace the "sun50i-a64-pine64-plus.dtb" file with "sun50i-a64-pine64.dtb" at /boot/dtb/allwinner because the non-plus model (512MB) has different ethernet hardware. Is there some sort of general problem that makes those builds unbootlable? Jessie Xenial

  15. A while back I tried the more recent kernels (non-legacy) and noticed these issues. Back then I didn't have the possibility to investigate further and I just ended up forcing the kernel back to old legacy kernel. This time around I have the time to actually troubleshoot more, so here we go. When I last updated everything, the kernel got updated from 6.1.104-legacy-sunxi64 to 6.6.75-legacy-sunxi64, the immediate thing I noticed was that the WLAN did get detected. There is a thread about missing wifi with a linked PR, but either that fix hasn't landed in the 6.6.x kernel or something else is wrong. The other issue is that the 6.6.x kernel seems to be…

However on my Pine64, dmesg says: rtlwifi/rtl8192cufw.bin isn't available. Hi, I just installed the Armbian on a Pine A64+ (Armbian Focal, mainline based kernel 5.9.y). I'm having trouble getting audio from the 3.5mm stereo output. I've tried several things, including a speaker test: speaker-test -c 2 -Dsysdefault:sun50ia64audio I tried editing /etc/asound.conf but it doesn't seem to affect anything. Do changes to that file apply instantly? What can I do to test/diagnose the issue?

I was able to mount the microSD card on one of the other systems, and fsck reported everything was fine. I could also see all of the files just fine. The files …

  26. Hello. Because of bad CB1 eMMC board manual, and very incompetent and formal tech support (they approve that their boards can only be used for 3D printers🤦🤣) I don't understand, what pins (GPIOs) of CB1 eMMC board are used for I2C and SPI interfaces. I also tried updating a working 3.10.104 / 5.25 installation with the dev. 4.x kernel, using the guide: Finally tried with a cross compiled kernel, built using the developer guide: https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/ All with same result: Board apparently doesn't b…

For PINE A64 with Ubuntu Focal (stable and nightly) with a 5 MP camera, the documentation states to add camera_type=s5k4ec to /boot/armbianEnv.txt and reboot. After rebooting, the kernel module is not available. modinfo s5k4ec returns: modinfo: ERROR: Module s5k4ec not found. The file /boot/config-5.9.8-sunxi64 shows that only camera sensors OV2640 and MT9V011 are available and CONFIG_VIDEO_S5K4ECGX is not set. Is this an issue with the build?

  45. I have an Orange Pi Zero 2 set up with Octoprint and a webcam. No keyboard or screen, all access over ssh... if it's running. If it started OK, then no problem, everything works fine. If. Usually powering it up lights up the red LED and... it ends here. I waited even half an hour, red, no boot. Occasionally - one in five-ten attempts to boot - the LED turns green after a couple seconds and the board boots fine. Very rarely the red turns to green after a minute or so, and the board boots up. Unfortunately, having no cable to connect it to a monitor or serial, my diagnostics are quite limited - after booting dmesg looks mostly clean, but maybe in case it's a sem…

  46. Hello, I have an issue, i am running the Pine LTS board on eMMC using Armbian latest stable image. We want to access the serial port on the board, so to test i downloaded putty, i select serial and click open. I get an error when opening this, so i have to run: sudo chmod 777 /dev/tty50 and sudo chmod /dev/tty52 on each boot, then i am able to open the serial port using putty. When i look at the ls -l /dev/tty50 i get: crw--w---- 1 root tty 4, 50 Jan 30 30 16:07 tty50. After etensive research i added my user cst to the tty group, but when i reboot i still have to manually run chmod again to access the serial port. Can someone please …

  47. Hello, today I made an upgrade of my pine64-mainline and failed miserably - my new armbian image won't boot any more. So I did some more tests with a new more different sd-cards, power supply and the mailine kernel form the download site (https://dl.armbian.com/pine64/Ubuntu_xenial_dev_nightly.7z): Again, the same behaviour, the image doesn't bott any more after "apt update" and "apt upgrade". Please, could someone help me with this problem? I hope these lockup logs help in troubleshooting. Thanks a lot! boot-fail-2017-09-06-A.log boot-fail-2017-09-06-B.log

  48. On the latest image (25.2.2) of both Server - Noble and Desktop - XFCE - Bookworm, the wireless interfaces show up as expected and connect to wifi. After the first apt upgrade and reboot, the system no longer detects the wireless interface at all. For my armbianmonitor output, there is a mediatek wireless interface plugged into USB, but there is no mention of the rtl8189 in any of the boot or hardware logs. Did something change in the overlay or other pre-kernel bootloader configs which disable the device? I would think if it were merely kernel / driver related, the hardware would still show up, but be unusable until a driver was configured.

  49. I read in the documentation for the mainline kernel that the upper USB port is configured as OTG by default. ("It’s possible to convert the upper USB port (normally an OTG port) into a full USB host port using an own PHY by setting some magic bits.") Hi, Pine 64's delivery is in full swing and thousands of people are receiving/received their Pine64 boards (Mine is scheduled for May). One of the survey shows that majority of the people have chosen to install linux on their boards. Many people are struggling to find a good image for their boards and current some what stable image is based on already end of life 3.10 kernel and there is promising development by sunxi. I am sure that thousands will get benefited if they get Armbian for Pine64. So How about Armbian for Pine 64? Regards, -- Avinash

  53. Hi, I have 2 OPi1 that I want to use for some test projects. One project consist just on PiHole, the other one on Tailscale. Since with newer kernel I have high temperature on idle (like 70°C) can you advice me an old version that maybe has a "better" thermal management? But, I'm stuck on something that I believe I undestand, but don't know how to resolve. I don't believe this is a probleme specific to my board though. What I've done so far with success is both install and run a pre-built Armbian Image on this board, as well as build my own image and run it. Both work perfectly. Now, I'm attempting to apply the RT patch and build a fresh image (or even just a Kernel) to get the FULL REALTIME kernel support working. However, the build sy…

  55. Good day. We have a medical device project. We always wanted to have bananapi m4 zero hardware on our main board, with armbian as an OS seeing as it is up to date and fit for purpose. However, our Hardware supplier has not been able to solve the full hardware stack. We currently are able to boot the orangepi zero 3 image... and as far as I understand the hardware chips are very close to each other. We also have emmc on the board. But not working. We desperately need hardware development help so we can get banana pi m4 zero armbian supported OS working. Any advise please. We have 2GB RAM , allwinner h618, axp313. 56. Currently using Armbian as a PiHole DNS server, it seems that after a few days the server just shuts itself down (Armbian 25.5.1 Noble 6.12). Not sure if it is a hardware related issue, I'll do some more tests and revert back to 25.2.2 Bookworm for now and see if the issue is replicated. Please note that my primary Armbian PiHole DNS does not encounter the same issue, though the version of it is Noble v25.2.3 / 6.12.30.

  57. Hi guys, I've been running an armbian edge image i've compiled using the build tool (armbian bookworm 6.7.12), and it's been working perfectly, with good gpu support and hdmi out working. There doesn't seem to be a single post about that that i could find specifically for the H616? Any and all answers welcome!

  65. Hi, Thanks to the hard work of your team, the Pine64-plus touchscreen now works great with the mainline kernel and legacy images are no longer listed in the download options, but it looks like some of the instructions at https://www.armbian.com/pine64/ are still referring to the "old way" of doing things: ie: Pine64’s own LCD with touchscreen support can simply be activated in /boot/armbianEnv.txt by setting pine64_lcd=on and adding gt9xxf_ts to /etc/modules followed by a reboot. The LCD screen is now activated by manipulating the DT overlays, which can even be done from armbian-config - hardware, and the touchscreen module is…

  66. Hi everyone. Tried stable and experimental builds. Also build my own image. All 6.x kernels don't seem to have a working wifi on this board. Tried modprobe brcmfmac without any luck - module loads but no wlan0 comes up. The board to my understanding has CYW43455 chip (from Cypress). Apparently there are several variations of BPI M4 Zero. The only image that has working wifi is from BPI website but it's a backports build with 5.4 kernel, so fairly old and outdated (running an upgrade makes the board unbootable). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have great respect for your work (I signed up for an Individual subscription and made a small contribution to Funding equipment in April 2023) Question about Bananapi M4 Zero board The board is assigned the status "Standard Support", but there are no links to a stable image (for example Armbian 24.2.1 Bookworm CLI). There are only links to daily/rolling releases. I understand how much time and effort goes into maintaining a large number of boards. Tell me, can we hope for the appearance of stable firmware versions for Bananapi M4 Zero?

  88. (One liner added later : the problem turned out to be the Cisco SOHO switch. They're "broken from the factory". Not what you'd expect, normally or in particular from Cisco.) Hi, everyone. I've taken the liberty of posting here with regard to my problem as I have the understanding the PINE64 forums proper are run by crazy people; my thought being to stay away from there. So, I have a 1 GB PINE64. I have ethernet performance problems - but NOT, I believe, in any way related to the early production models with their hardware fault or with gigabit ethernet being flakey. My PINE64 is in fact connected to a 100mbit hub, and is …

  89. Hi, I was unable to get static MAC address working on my Pine64. I have the kernel boot argument, console=ttyS0,115200 root=/dev/mmcblk0p1 rootwait rootfstype=ext4 panic=10 consoleblank=0 enforcing=0 loglevel=1 mac_addr=3a:bd:50:94:8b:06 But still, the from dmesg, [ 12.954581] sun8i-emac 1c30000.ethernet: device MAC address slot 0 aa:90:02:81:eb:e9 In the interfaces file, auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp hwaddress ether 3a:bd:50:94:8b:06 But this caused error in ifup and system start up (networking cannot start since ifup failed with device in use) Although ifup failed, eth0 is visible in ifconfig, which means something else had already …

  90. Hello! I installed a fresh Armbian (5.31; Server) on my Pine64 yesterday. Today I wanted to start playing around with GPIO ... And it seems like Pin 72 isn't working ... Doing the same on Pin 77, everything works fine ... For the secound test, I used https://github.com/databit/Pine64-CPP. I only added some Debug info to example.cpp. Spoiler Script started on Fri 28 Jul 2017 01:35:44 PM CEST root@pine64:/sys/class/gpio# echo "72" > export bash: echo: write error: Device or resource busy root@pine64:/sys/class/gpio# echo "72" > unexport bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument root@pine64:/sys/class/gpio# ls export gpi…

  91. I'm guessing it wasn't intentional that the current legacy Armbian_5.30_Pine64_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.10.105 image for the pine64 wouldn't work without the battery? Because the "Warning: Low battery power, shutting down to recharge" line (10th line from the end) is an absolute corker (or should I say showstopper?) when there is no battery connected to the pine64! It fell over on a 2G pine64 board that I was about to build up with Armbian. Spoiler HELLO! BOOT0 is starting! boot0 commit : 045061a8bb2580cb3fa02e301f52a015040c158f boot0 version : 4.0.0 set pll start set pll end rtc[0] value = 0x00000000 rtc[1] value = 0x00000000 rtc[2] value = 0…

This is an old, original Pine64 Board w/ 1GB RAM. Armbian Version: 5.69 I am unable to get audio signal (output) from the Audio Jack. Tried normal headphone with 3 contacts, also tried headset with 4 contacts, BOTH fail to get audio out. Tried Stretch and also Ubuntu, no success... Does anybody succeed getting audio out from the onboard audio jack with Armbiam? If so, can you give a brief description of the procedure/steps and the soft(s) you are using? When using a external USB Audio adapter everything seems to work fine (connecting to the Adapter Audio Jack), so, I guess that from the point of view of…

  93. Hi all, I've read on the forum that support for usb gadget using the µ-usb port on the libre computer tritium needed a kernel reconfigure & recompile. I tried to start with that, but during configuration, I've seen full support already. So, was it supposed to just work ? I target armbian buster server variant. my need is to use IP over an usb (and power) cable between a linux machine (x86 and then arm) and a tritium h5 Thanks in advance

  94. Hoping someone can help me out. When I use the desktop images from the following page: https://www.armbian.com/bananapi-m4-zero/, I get my display properly identified (connected via HDMI) and can change resolution, rotation, etc. However, as with noted in other posts, these do not have WiFi. In order to get WiFi working, I use the image from here: https://docs.banana-pi.org/en/BPI-M4_Zero/BananaPi_BPI-M4_Zero. For my needs, this image works fine with the one exception. It does not detect the display and only shows default with no ability to change settings. I have poked around and tried to find a solution but am coming up empty. Is there so…

As I said in another topic, I'm trying to make bluetooth work with my Pine64 1GB board The other topic is there : Yesterday I tried using `rtk_hciattach` from https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723bs_bt That was the program I was using with legacy kernel. After a fresh start (removed the Power USB and plugged it back in) I get this output : root@pine64:~/src/rtl8723bs_bt# ./rtk_hciattach -n -s 115200 /dev/ttyS1 rtk_h5 Realtek Bluetooth init uart with init speed:115200, final_speed:115200, type:HCI UART H5 Realtek Bluetooth :Realtek hciattach version 2.5 Realtek Bluetooth :3-wire sync pattern resend : 1, len: 8 Realtek B…

  96. I have been reading into this for some hours now, and it seems like I will need to write (or perhaps modify from some existing) DTB overlay or something like that? I tried following the instructions here, and using a .dtbo file (hifiberry-amp100.dtbo) I copied from OSMC I have here on an RPi 3, but I don't think that's right as it mentions 'brcm,bcm2835' which I suppose means it can only be used with RPi. The above mentioned .dtbo file seemed to be in some binary format, although I could still make out some text in it. I can't even seem to find the uncompressed (plain text) versions, I searched OSMC and HiFiBerry repos (amongst others), I don't th…

Mainline stable Armbian stable for Pine64 worked great. I have successfully make my 3.5 TFT screen work but not the touch screen. I read some tutorials, mostly guide. This guide for TFT and Touch is really detailed. For touch: - Step 1: ads7846 driver seems ok - Step 2: ads7846_device there is a warning after make and make install, and it said to skip depmod - After this, I tried sudo modprob ads7846 sudo modprob ads7846_device model=7846 cs=1 gpio_pendown=1 keep_vref_on=1 swap_xy=1 pressure_max=255 x_plate_ohms=60 x_min=200 x_max=3900 y_min=200 y_max=3900 ads7846 is ok (confirmed with lsmod). But ads7846_device return invalid argum…

  98. I'm hesitant to post this here, because I am not really sure that this is an armbian issue to begin with. But I'm somewhat stumped. During the build process I configured the kernel to enable real time threads. CONFIG_NO_HZ_COMMON=y CONFIG_HZ_1000=y CONFIG_HZ=1000 CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT=y However, as I started to migrate my development I discovered I couldn't create a real time thread. So I pulled down areal time test suite (https://wiki.linuxfoundation.org/realtime/documentation/howto/tools/rt-tests) And confirmed it has the same issue: Unable to change scheduling policy! either run as root or join realtime group I am …

  99. I am currently developing a custom board which is based of the Pine64/Pine64-R18 dev board. I previously had an issue with the ethernet not working at u-boot level using the sopine based R18 board, this I resolved by patching u-boot with the relevant emac sections that were missing from the device tree. On the custom board we have used the R18 processor with the LAN8720 ethernet-phy chip rather than the RTL8211 used by the pine, and can't get the ethernet to initialise. We have checked rmii clock timings etc and compared the custom board to the Pine and have noticed the following:- MDC has been measured to be running at 18.6Mhz, resultin…
