Many of us are using Armbian not just on ARM single board computers but also on servers (bare metal & virtual). We use our builds since we trust it more then Debian, Ubuntu, not to mention other distributions that are recklessly updating and one ends up as an OS tester and not OS user. Personally I use Armbian Jammy on Ryzen 9 workstation with great success. My primary use case is development / productivity. For the road I used to have 13" Dell notebook which recently suddenly died. It was out of warranty so I had to get something new. After some testings of various devices I settled with 12th Gen Intel i5-1240P powered Lenovo. Then I tried many general purpose distro…

Hi I have upgraded an existing x86 Armbian system with kernel 6.6.63 and zfs 2.3.2 to the suggested kernel 6.12.32-current-x86, but I cannot get the zfs kernel module loaded after the latest updates to Armbian 25.5.1 noble. I also tried on other kernels, only the old 6.6.63 seems to work. Normally when you select a different kernel in the armbian-config menu, it should automatically compile the zfs modules if it is activated. It just skips it. But you can of course compile it with the provided DKMS system: the build just finishes fine, without any error, also the install, but when you try to load the module: it responds with: …

I've been having issues with my Helios4 becoming unresponsive when it's been up for a while. I decided to do some more thorough investigating and found that it was having problems writing to the sdcard. Installed minimal debian image on my rPI5B. Then used "armbian-config --cmd PVE001" to install Proxmox. That went well with no reported errors. Navigated to the Proxmox web GUI and it looked and acted as expected. I currently have an AMD64 Proxmox cluster operating on my homelab so I am familiar with Proxmox. I wanted to make some changes to my network configuration using the Proxmox GUI. When I clicked the "Apply Configuration" button, it threw an "incompatible ifupdown2 package version" instead of applying the configuration.

Hi, I use bananapif3 as my home router, where our latest official Armbian runs. The board works well with Armbian, but currently it is not possible to use USB audio interfaces (sound cards, modems exposing audio functions, VoIP devices, etc.) because the snd-usb-audio module is missing from the kernel and not available as a loadable module. If needed, I can provide logs, test kernels, or help verify the changes. Thanks for maintaining support for this board.

I just installed legacy armbian on my xu4 and the only thing missing is proper video decoding ( vlc won't show any image and mplayer complains that my configuration is too slow ). Could somebody point me to a tutorial on how to enable hardware ( mali t628 ) video decoding ? Thanks for your help !

Hello, i saw a post regarding ZFS > zfs What is the current state of ZFS support? Is it a stable to run ZFS as FS for root fs only on SD card (16-32GB)? I need that for an easy backup on FS level using send/rec commands. But as we know xu4 is 32bit only - > maybe problem with stability - stability 32bit official solution but for rpi4 Or maybe is there a point to use zfs for root fs at all? what about LMV? thanks

Fairly sure the current build either includes an incorrect or no ucm config for HDMI Audio support; I've seen other builds eg rock itx have this issue but I believe this may be a potential issue for the q6a build if anyone experiences there is a solution - 1. Install alsa-ucm-conf sudo apt install -y alsa-ucm-conf 2. Download configs cd /tmp curl -sL "https://github.com/alsa-project/alsa-ucm-conf/archive/refs/heads/master.tar.gz" | tar xz 3. Hi, I'm using Odroid HC1 for quite a long time and I've observed much degradation on SMB/NFS speed when making upgrades to the board. I'm not sure why? Maybe I'll find some idea what it can be. Previously the board was working with speeds >100MB/s when reading from it on Windows (smb) or Linux (nfs) now max speeds on the same configuration are ~40 MB/s. That's way too slow. I don't see any process to hang on pc, while copying using smb the samba process is using not so big amount of CPU on big cores from what I see. I've grabbed armbianmonitor output so you can check it also: http://ix.io/1zrL Currently I'm working on: 4.14.87-odroidxu4 …

I learned that the cpu on my hc2 has 4 'slow' cores and 4 fast ones. Now I would want certain apps to always use the fast cores. I found `taskset` to do so. My idea was to just add `taskset --cpu-list 4,5,6,7` in the .service file of the desired app in the execstart line in front. To have it always use the big cores. Would this work? Also I have apps 'calling' unrar to extract files. I don't know how I would do it in this case. I think it'll be a bit complicated to tell the apps to call unrar with `taskset --cpu-list 4,5,6,7`. Is there a way to have unrar always run on the big cores?

Hi, yesterday I did a apt upgrade and noticed that my omv install also got updated. Now copying from my HC2 I only get like 50 mb/s. I always got like 100 mb/s..at least win explorer showed this, I know it's not accurate. Could the update have erased/overwritten all these nice tweaks @tkaiser made for us to increase tranfer speed? That would be very unfortunate :/ Any chance I can roll back the omv update?

Ok, so after PHP issues I started off with a fresh armbian install and via armbian-config I installed OMV 4. Install finished without any problems but if I copy stuff via smb the tranfer speed is really bad and I don't know why. On an old install with OMV 3 I used to get nice 100 mb/s. The cpu temp also used to be at like 80 °C during copy, now it looks like this: Following extra options are set in smb.conf: min receivefile size = 16384 write cache size = 524288 getwd cache = yes socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY I also checked smbd app, it's running on a big core.... I get the feeling that not all the avaiable resources of my HC2 ar…

I tried to install armbian to my internal sata drive (SSD: Samsung Evo 850). But the device fails to boot after the root fs is moved. I used the command nand-sata-install with following option: Boot from SD - system on SATA or USB I tried different filesystem formats (ext4, btrfs) and armbian builds: Armbian_5.37_Odroidxu4_Debian_jessie_next_4.9.71 (stable) Armbian_5.37_Odroidxu4_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.9.71 (stable) Armbian_5.41_Odroidxu4_Debian_stretch_next_4.9.83 (self-built) I dont have a terminal adapter to access the boot logs. A recent check of failed services showed me that following service failed: systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service Checking via journalctl I see this: Failed to write utmp record: No space left on device So far I understood it has to do with the space for the logs being full, I can delete logs to make place. My question is, how could I have that done by default in an easy way? The message itself doesn't bother my that much but I guess there are no new logs created if there's no space which isn't ideal.

The ChangeLog of Armbian says that overlayfs was added in V5.15. I got installed V5.20 (or actually an earlier and then apt-get upgraded) yet the overlayfs is not available (kernel 3.10.103-odroidxu4). I have even tried installing linux-*-next and *uboot*-next (not even knowing what the -next mean) but it didn't help, still no overlayfs in /proc/filesystems. Also, on reboot the Odroid is missing LAN connection randomly. It can be fixed by running dhclient manually but then the ethernet card is named by systemd. Normally it's eth0 and the networking works. I couldn't figure out what is the root cause of this issue, it seems random. I have also read in a ChangeLog that…

Hello, I experimented with various OS-es for my new Odroid-XU4. From what I have learned I like armbian the best because it's the closest to the original debian. A clean, small, tuned up system with the possibility to switch back to sysvinit from system(d). What I would run on it is not a desktop environment but exactly Kodi. The XU4 comes with Ubuntu 16 LTS preloaded to sdcard and I can say this is the OS which maxes out the potential of this hardware. With this after an update & upgrade everything works out of the box: kodi, networking, hdmi-cec, hdmi-audio. With using the unofficial debian jessie for odroid: http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=114&t=175…

I use a Raspberry Pi 5 and use I2C1 with external eeprom. With v25.5.1 up to kernel 6.6.63-current-bcm2711, /dev/i2c-1 is there (activated in /boot/firmware/config.txt with dtparam=i2c_arm=on) and communication with eeprom works fine. With newer kernel versions, communication works not, /dev/i2c-1 does not exist anymore in this case without changing any configuration, just selected newer kernel using armbian-config Any ideas why this happens?

I have my ODROID XU4 configured so that the SD /boot files boot the machine on a SSD formatted to ext4. This works fine with 4.9.30, but fails with the 4.9.33 kernel I installed today. The only useful message I see is that it can't find my SSD's uuid. The uuid is correct so I suspect that the kernel does not have or is not loading a USB driver. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to boot using the 4.9.33 kernel? Thanks, Michael

I'm running a Helios4 NAS with OMV 5.6.6-1 and ZFS 2.0.3. After running for approximately a week it becomes unresponsive - OMV login shows a blue screen but doesn't get to login page, SSH timeout and serial login just keeps going back to the login prompt without asking for the password. Repowering the unit (physically disconnecting the power because there is no way to shut it down gracefully) brings it back to life and it runs again for a week or so before the same thing happens again. I'm not quite sure where to start troubleshooting this. Any ideas ?

Hello all, I have installed the image "Armbian 23.02.0-trunk.0176 Lunar with bleeding edge Linux 6.1.6-bcm2711" on my two Raspi 4 systems. One system runs via cable and the other via WLAN. At the beginning there were some problems with the IPv6 - kernel, if "apt update" was executed. I got this problem under control with "disable ipv6".... Since then, both systems run flawlessly & without problems. With the implementation of GPIO you should fall back on an existing GPIO - version, which works in any case also under this image; also for 64bit. One small thing I would like to know very much, because on the system with the cable the…

Hello all, As I have often said, I am very satisfied with this LINUX implementation on the RASPI PI4 board. Hi All, I'm a happy user of a Helios4, and have been for several years now. However, at some point it will be challenging to continue to support it, and I'd rather be proactive about maintaining access to my data than scrambling around. Do people here have recommendations on current hardware that can replace the Helios4? It would need to meet the baseline hardware requirements of the existing hardware. Bonus points if one can re-use the laser-cut case Thanks!

Does anyone know any way to fix the annoying way the fan works on this device? Even on idle load, the fan spins up every couple of minutes, keeps spinning for a few seconds, then turns off again, only to repeat a few minutes later. I can't even sleep in the same room the device is in... I've tried using this: https://github.com/f1vefour/odroid-xu4-fan-control And it hasn't really solved anything, as the fan cannot start on PWM values lower than 100... it instead makes squeaking noises. So having adjusted the script, nothing has really changed. Is there something I could do to fix this in software? Perhaps something that doesn't involve getting the heatsink …

Since there doesn't seem to be an upgrade path from OMV4 -> OMV5 and so requiring a full rebuild, I want to understand as much as possible before actually trying this new version out. Any successes out there?

I'm using Armbian 23.02.2 Bullseye with Linux 5.15.93-mvebu and OMV6. I want to upgrade to Armbian 23.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.1.30. Up to now no upgrade is offered. If the answer to the thread title is "yes" I need help how to do the upgrade. If the answer is "no" I kindly ask for information about the reason not to be able to upgrade. By the way: Helios4 is a maintained platform, maintainer is @Heisath

Hi. I have a Odroid XU4 with Ubuntu Bionic latest release (5.60), powered with this UPS: APC SmartUPS 750 VA. Apcupsd doesn't work. The problem seems related to the missing /dev/usb/hiddev0. After searching on Google, I found that apcupsd requires this feature enabled in the kernel. CONFIG_USB_HIDDEV=Y I build my own kernel enabling it, but no change. Here the output of the command # dmesg | grep Smart [ 4.125553] usb 1-1.2: Product: Smart-UPS 750 FW:651.13.I USB FW:7.3 [ 4.205622] hid-generic 0003:051D:0002.0001: hidraw0: USB HID v1.10 Device [American Power Conversion Smart-UPS 750 FW:651 On the Rock64 board it works without…

My hardware: Odroid HC2 Armbian 24.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.6.31-current-odroidxu4 : My backup restoration → Has other issues too → But apt upgrade results in various size and hash mismatches. Offtopic: apt upgrade or sudo dpkg --configure -a always crash the system (since summer 2024, troubleshooting without success since christmas 2024) Ruled out HW failure 80-90%. My local apt/dpg cache was corrupted, thus at /var/lib/dpkg/ backed up info/ to info.bak/ and mkdir info/ afresh. And now sudo dpkg --configure -a completed successfully the very first time! Just updated many armbian files shown as available for update. After the update sudo apt update shows the error message: E: The repository 'http://apt.armbian.com bookworm Release' is no longer signed. N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default. N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details. How can I fix this or was signing simply forgotten? Thank you!

I am using an odroid HC2 as home NAS for some years now. Software is armbian/XU4 in debian flavour. At the moment I am running bookworm (which was updated from buster to bullseye and then to bookworm - I know its not supported but it worked fine. And the problem described here started only some month after the last update). Some days ago I wanted to reboot the unit but it was stuck in the boot process. Not available by ssh or any other services. I then found out that the boot stopped because my hard disk could not be mounted from ftsab (while the sd card as root file system could be mounted). After commenting out the line it boots normally. And when logged in by ssh …

Hi, New user here - I Just download the current version of Armbian today with the hopes of using it on my Raspberry Pi 5B. After unzipping it, I created an image on a usb stick using Raspberry Pi Imager - use custom. However, it is not booting. It only shows a few lines on the screen, the last being: Begin: Running /scripts/local-block ... done. (screen shot below) What am I doing wrong?

Since 10 days I try to install NextcloudPi on Odroid HC1. Unfortunately neither the nextcloud image nor the armbian image boots on the Odroid HC1. Also an attempt with OMV failed. In my experience with the raspi, the sd card had to have a boot partition and a rootfs partition. Etcher and dd always create only one rootfs. The blue LED flashes: short, short, pause. Also exchanged hardware was unsuccessful (HC1 and SD cards).

I bought an helios4 (and run helios4 4.19.63-mvebu) to replace a bananapi server under armbian, the bananapi was running a DRBD node, so I need this service. I first tried to install it, and have seen that DRBD was not configured in the kernel linux-image-next-mvebu 5.91. and the module was missing I checked in the git repository that linux-mvebu64-next.config has now this configuration option, and thought that I will get a new kernel by switching to nightly build. As this option is offered by armbian-config I toggled it. After some time my Helios4 failed to reboot and was bricked. I mounted my SD on an other system to try to analyze the situation, nothing app…

I needed to downgrade from 4.19 back to 4.14 so I wanted to use armbian-config/system/other. It gave me an empty list. The graphical interface is very slow and glitchy when I booted my BPI-F3 running the latest Armbian provided (Ubuntu variant). The cursor glitches in and out, and it takes forever for the onboard display to open applications, display text typed in, etc (It took around 5 minutes to open System Monitor, and 1 Minute to open Terminal). I have accessed it also via SSH and a USB-Serial converter, and those respond very quickly, therefore I think It has something to do with GPU support. I also found this other version with GPU acceleration, albeit an older version of Armbian, which ran fine. Mine currently boots off of EMMC and runs off of NVME (although the same was when I ini…

I see the download page says there are USB 3 issues with the mainline kernel (and eMMC, which the board doesn't even have?) and serial console for legacy kernel is broken. I've also read that HMP isn't supported on mainline either. Which kernel is recommended for general mini server usage with an attached hard drive and the OS installed on the hard drive with SD only for boot? I'm thinking of replacing my old cubietruck with it, running nginx as an SSL web proxy and a little bit of web serving.

I received a Helios4 and was finally able to get it to boot. As per instructions, I booted from microSD and flashed the latest Armbian image to sda1 via the nand-sata-install command. This reboots fine now, but only with the microSD-card present and the SW1 dipswitch set to "SD card boot mode". Is anybody here using "SPI NOR Flash" or "SATA1" boot mode to get rid of the microSD card? I am bit handicapped here since my serial port on the microUSB only comes up maybe 1 in 10 times. I wonder if it's worn out or if I am simply doing something wrong. Related Links: 1 2 3 4

I've been running Armbian on an Odroid HC1 board for some time now. We've just had a kernel upgrade and it now boots as an XU4 according to the motd. I attempted to file a bug using `reportbug`, but since the kernel package is from Armbian and the report went to Debian, I assume that is a dead end. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1137721 I will mostly copy/paste from that report, here, but I also ran `armbianmonitor -u`. https://paste.armbian.com/wenegucita I run a home backup server with a 1TB SSD attached to an ODroid HC1 board. Armbian_22.11.0-trunk_Rpi4b_jammy_current_5.15.73_xfce_desktop.img.xz Raspberry PI400 Viewsonic VP930 (1280x1024) I checked the sha-sum and flashed 2 times a Patriot SXDC-128GB-card. When I boot the PI400 the monitors LED changes from green (power on) to yellow (standbye) for half an hour, when I start the PI400. It looks like there is a problem with this old monitor which supports 1280x1024 only. Don't know, if the boot routine checks the monitor, but the green LED can stay for 2sec, sometimes for 30sec. BTW Xubuntu 22.04 with an SSD works fine with the same hardware.
