My hardware: Odroid HC2 Armbian 24.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.6.31-current-odroidxu4 : My backup restoration → Has other issues too → But apt upgrade results in various size and hash mismatches. Offtopic: apt upgrade or sudo dpkg --configure -a always crash the system (since summer 2024, troubleshooting without success since christmas 2024) Ruled out HW failure 80-90%. My local apt/dpg cache was corrupted, thus at /var/lib/dpkg/ backed up info/ to info.bak/ and mkdir info/ afresh. And now sudo dpkg --configure -a completed successfully the very first time! Please forgive me if it is a stupid question, but what is preventing us from keeping n previous kernels installed in case an update is broken and does not boot? Fedora does it, Ubuntu does too. In general it should be simpler to boot a previous kernel than to try to pull the SD card and fix it in a second machine.

The graphical interface is very slow and glitchy when I booted my BPI-F3 running the latest Armbian provided (Ubuntu variant). The cursor glitches in and out, and it takes forever for the onboard display to open applications, display text typed in, etc (It took around 5 minutes to open System Monitor, and 1 Minute to open Terminal). I have accessed it also via SSH and a USB-Serial converter, and those respond very quickly, therefore I think It has something to do with GPU support. I also found this other version with GPU acceleration, albeit an older version of Armbian, which ran fine. Mine currently boots off of EMMC and runs off of NVME (although the same was when I ini…

A while ago (February '24), I downloaded and installed Armbian_23.11.3_Rpi5b_bookworm_current_6.1.68_cinnamon_desktop. It is running OK, and I only have a few issues with it. One issue is that the vcgencmd is not working. I posted a question about it on the forum and received a reply saying that this would be solved "when possible." However, it is still not resolved. Without this command working, I cannot get the CPU temperature, so I cannot control the cooling fan. I checked for a newer release today to see if this issue is fixed. I was shocked to see no Bookworm with Cinnamon release available. I'd like to know if it is in the works or has been dropped and wil…

Hello guys! Probably some of you know me as the MadEDoctor from Youtube. For those of you who don't know my channel and don't know what I am doing at the moment - Long story short I got my hands on a 16GB RAM chip that should be compatible with the Raspberry Pi 4 hardware. But there is a problem I am facing... That is I am unable to boot any OS different from VMware (arm version) and RISC OS (that is pretty much useless). When I try to boot Raspbian for example - It shows the rainbow square and then gets stuck on a completely black screen and it draws around 500mA... I contacted Jeff Geerling with the hope he could help with this project. He wrote a post on the …

Hi, I'm running Armbian UEFI x86 on a Radxa Rock X4 and I'm struggling to find, where to put the kernel parameters. The armbian-config SY003 suggests /boot/armbianEnv.txt. So I've put a line with extraargs=, but it is ignored. Then I've tried /etc/default/grub adding the parameters to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= and then doing update-grub, but it is also ignored. Where should I put the kernel parameters?

Hi everyone. Just after a bit of advice before I take the plunge and boot up armbian on my Mi10 Pro. I'm using it currently as a modem, it's tethered to my Deco setup so its only used as a modem. Obviously the stock HyperOS isn't that great at having anything that is remotely useful for this purposes. So I'm hoping that Armbian could be the answer I'm looking for. If someone could assist/answer the following; Is there by modem/router type software that I can use on Armbian? Does the 5g modem get recognised by Armbian? Does the USB C slot get recognised so any usb hub that I plug in will work? Will ethernet teth…

Today I imaged 'Armbian_24.8.0-trunk.542_Rpi4b_noble_current_6.6.44_gnome_desktop.img' on to an SD card and then put it in my Raspberry Pi 4 GB. It booted up first time no issues and I went through the setup flow. I am using wired ethernet and was able to reach it remotely immediately. I installed all the updates. When I do "sudo shutdown -h -r now" on the command line (either via SSH or locally in the terminal) it does not reboot. The device stops responding to pings and no longer has HDMI output. If I power cycle the board once, it does not boot up. On the second power cycle it boots up. This seems really odd. Is this some known issue with the raspberry pi 4…

Hello all, I am using Armbian (Debian Bookworm), Gnome with Wayland. everything is working just fine. The problem is with sharing or presenting screen with OBS-Studio, Jitsi, Google meeting or other. If I share a tab in Chromium/Firefox with Jtisi or Google meeting, that's work, but I can't share a window or full screen. I am wondering what is the main cost of that. This when I share full screen, it doesn't work properly, it shows like this: This when I share tab, it's working just fine.

Today, I set up SSH public key authentication on my RPI5B running Armbian-unofficial 24.8.0-trunk Bookworm. During the test, I noticed that the initial SSH session message displayed the CPU temperature and other details. Unfortunately, the vcgencmd utility provided by the Raspberry Pi Foundation doesn't work on Armbian. I'm looking to understand how the temperature, CPU clock, and GPU clock are measured, and if possible, I'd like to receive some code to do so.

I installed Armbian from Armbian_23.11.3_Rpi5b_jammy_current_6.1.68_cinnamon_desktop.img.xz downloaded today (February 11th 24) After installation, I performed an upgrade/update. I have not yet installed any additional software. Issues; 1) when cinnamon desktop starts there is message displayed: Your system is currently running without video hardware acceleration 2) vgencmd always gives an error: VCHI initialization failed, no matter if I run it with sudo or not, or with which parameter(s) I run it. armbian monitor -u gave link https://paste.armbian.com/lurunopoyo

Hi, where can I find kernel headers for RPi5 jammy? linux-headers-6.1.68.current-bcm2712 ? This version of Armbian is really usefull because it is the only one that can run a version of ROS natively on a RPi5, but I need the headers to build drivers Thanks

Hello, I use an Odroid XU with Armbian and Webmin as a NAS drive. I have 6 hard drives (GPT format) connected. Under an old Linux version I was able to put the hard drives into standby with /etc/ rc.local (hdparm -S). Since I started running the system with Armbian, standby no longer works. A query via hdparm says "Standby", but the disks are still spinning. Am I fundamentally doing something wrong? Thank you!

I had to roll back and use apt hold on the 2 corresponding packages to remain on the "good" LTS kernel 5.4.253 that supports fstrim on extremely popular Crucial SSDs that support it. It's impossible to get the maintainer Joe to reply. Is there a triage way to have someone contact him and make him aware of this issue? I have zero complaints about his work, but SATA TRIM commands are a must have on SBCs that have drive bays. It dramatically increases lifetime of NAND based storage devices. Please tell me what to do. I found filing a simple bug report would be counter productive as I want to investigate why later Kernels are either compiled without …

I'm trying to get to the point where I can read time from the DS3231 RTC module on a Raspberry Pi 4. From what I understand, I first need to activate i2c bus, then load the kernel module that would work with the clock itself. So far i2cdetect tool fails to detect anything. There are no i2c-* devices in /dev either. I've read about "Hardware" option in armbian-config, but it's not showing up in the menu. I've also read that it's a matter of adding a device tree overlay. Does that apply for RPI4? The folder structure in /boot seems different from what documentation and several threads describe for other boards. What would be the steps for acti…

I just installed latest Jammy on XU-4 and it was running fine off SD. Then I did nand-sata-install and you can see below what happened. This used to work fine with older versions. sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 2 MB in 5.54 seconds = 369.48 kB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 2 MB in 10.33 seconds = 198.19 kB/sec

I already posted the question in the Odroid forum. I decided to post it here too since it may be more inherent to the Armbian OS. I used both Armbian_23.02.3_Odroidxu4_bullseye_current_5.4.239.img from the odroidxu4 archive and Armbian-unofficial_23.11.0-trunk_Odroidxu4_bullseye_current_6.1.63 generated from the Armbian build script. (Base CLI Image). After flashing the former image and then installing OMV6, this is the output that OMV6 gives me when installing the openmediavault-wireguard plugin: Spoiler Reading package lists... Building dependency tree... Reading state information... The following additional packages will be in…

Hi there, not sure where to post this, intended for @rpardini I have an x13s running here with dual boot to win11 and ubuntu 23.04 lunar, the armbian work was a great help to get it to work. Not quite finished setting it up tbqh. However, if you're on a fast boot device like the local NVMe drive, the remoteproc firmwares qcadsp8280.mbn and qccdsp8280.mbn fail to load and won't get retried later, the GPU firmwares a660_sqe.fw and a660_gmu.bin may fail but get loaded later. That is a little unfortunate, since PMIC GLINK (among other things) is running on one of these. My Windows Dev Kit 2023 (same SoC) doesn't balk this way, both boot the same Ubuntu…

I was curious if anyone has experience with using Armbian on older x86 server hardware systems. This would be for a home-lab sort of setup. In the past, I fought with Ubuntu Server and found that I missed the Armbian-Config utility that made setup a breeze. (Specifically looking at WIWYNN LYRA-M SV315, INTEL XEON E5-2670 V2 SR1A7 2.5GHZ 10-C0RE) I am planning to run a MariaDB instance for a scientific database. My past test use was using Armbian on an 8 GB Raspberry pi 4B, with MariaDB, and it worked very well, until the SD card failed. Any thoughts or points of caution before attempting this would be appreciated. I have generally had a very p…

I am using an odroid HC2 as home NAS for some years now. Software is armbian/XU4 in debian flavour. At the moment I am running bookworm (which was updated from buster to bullseye and then to bookworm - I know its not supported but it worked fine. And the problem described here started only some month after the last update). Some days ago I wanted to reboot the unit but it was stuck in the boot process. Not available by ssh or any other services. I then found out that the boot stopped because my hard disk could not be mounted from ftsab (while the sd card as root file system could be mounted). After commenting out the line it boots normally. And when logged in by ssh …

Hello, my Odroid HC2 was working flawlessly for years but since 1-2 weeks it keeps crashing/freezing and I don't know why. If I cut power and repower it, it works fine for a while but then trying to reach it via ssh, or accessing the harddrive via smb share, or opening a webinterface fails. I checked the microsd card with armbianmonitor -c "$HOME" and it showed it's fine. I can only provide the logs: https://paste.armbian.com/cibowaquyi and hope someone can check them and reply 🙏. I don't know what to look for in the logs that could be wrong... One last thing I noticed, after I ssh to it amongst other things I'm greeted with this: RX today: Erro…

Hi All, I'm a happy user of a Helios4, and have been for several years now. However, at some point it will be challenging to continue to support it, and I'd rather be proactive about maintaining access to my data than scrambling around. Do people here have recommendations on current hardware that can replace the Helios4? It would need to meet the baseline hardware requirements of the existing hardware. Bonus points if one can re-use the laser-cut case Thanks!

Is there a repository with older Armbian images available? I'm looking to install OMV6 on my Odroid HC1 (XU4), when I get Armbian Bookworm installed OMV scripts says to use Buster or Bullseye, but I cannot find an Armbian Bullseye image anywhere. I'm not super proficient with Linux (I know enough to get myself in trouble) so compiling my own image is not something I think I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Nevermind...I'm an idiot...didn't notice the GIANT button for Archived Images. Apologies. Thanks, Robert

I noticed there's a community overlay module that adds a "first boot" script which, among other things, allows you to connect to wifi without ever connecting a monitor or keyboard. But, this overlap doesn't seem to come with the current raspberry pi 4b image (Armbian_23.5.1_Rpi4b_jammy_current_6.1.29.img). I tried downloading the build script, but I don't see an option to enable overlays in that either. Is this supported at this time? Also, I know I could just use raspbian if I want this feature, but I'm hoping to work with armbian because I want my build process to be reproducible on other boards.

Using release Armbian_23.5.1_Rpi4b_jammy_current_6.1.29 on a Raspberry Pi 4b. From a clean install: $ sudo apt update $ sudo apt upgrade $ sudo apt install podman $ podman run --rm docker.io/library/hello-world Error: command required for rootless mode with multiple IDs: exec: "newuidmap": executable file not found in $PATH Podman runs fine with sudo, so for now I can use that as a workaround, but it would be nice to run rootless containers for dev environments. There is a related issue on the official podman repo, but the solutions there don't seem to apply to armbian. https://github.com/containers/podman/issues/9271

Hi all, just a quick note here that I am running 23.05 Bookworm successfully on Helios4 with ZFS. I did a clean install with a self-built image. Why the self-build? For two reasons: I wanted to have working fancontrol and that required the recent patch of @Heisath - https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/5392 I ran into an issue with not being able to install kernel headers (see below) so I needed to build an image with kernel headers built-in Build steps I wanted the release version so I did this in a clean build environment (WSL2 Ubuntu): git clone --depth=1 --branch=v23.05.2 https://github.com/armbian/build And …

I'm using Armbian 21.08.8 (Bullseye). I want to upgrade to Armbian 22.02.1 but "apt-get update" doesn't offer anything. Reason seems to be that <mirror>/apt/dists is from Feb 1st 2022. OTOH <mirror>/dl contains the new release but "starting from scratch" (download image, write SDcard) implies that I have to rebuild my OMV6 on top of Armbian. Question: When can I expect that <mirror>/apt/dists will be refreshed? Or is there any other way to upgrade my installation?

Hello everyone! After my Helios4 had been laying in a cardboard box for a long time after moving houses, I decided it was time to once again set it up as an NAS. I was previously running Open Media Vault (OMV) with 4 disks in xfs and using MergerFS for unionizing three of them at a single mount point and then using Snapraid for the fourth disk. OMV worked pretty well for me but I go somewhat irritated from time to times because how it decides to thing in it's own way. But now I when I re-installed it (after getting a new PSU) I went with Armbian instead to keep it closer to "standard" linux. I think I will still go with Merver…

Hello all, according to the hints on the ARMBIAN homepage the image "Armbian_23.02.0-trunk_Rpi4b_lunar_edge_6.1.5.img" should work with the Raspi 3. After upgrading to the 5.15 kernel, I noticed that the fan control is only able to control one of the fans, while the other spins at full speed.
