Is there an accepted procedure for moving from using ramlog to logging to disk? I've looked but everything I can find is about setting up ramlog. I assume it's more complicated than just creating a partition (or ZFS dataset) and mounting it /var/log, disabling ramlog, and rebooting.

Hi everyone, After the last armbian update with a new kernel does the internal networkcard not work anymore! Luckely does a USB NIC work and can i run everything but on only 100Mbps iwonstead of 1Gb of the internal NIC. What i remember did this problem also a few years ago happen. I have pasted all the required info to pastebin because armbianmonitor -u does not work. I got an error that network is not availble. Thank you all for you support!

Hi all, I am running armbian bookworm on a nanopi r6c (rk3588). At boot, wireguard does not resolve the endpoint (strange, because it runs after network-online.target) and instead of keep trying, it gives up. If I manually restart it, all is good. Attached screenshots show the different behaviour in a raspberry pi (rpi4 as hostname) running raspios, where it keeps trying to resolve the endpoint, and nanopi r6c not retrying. I will recompile kernel to enable wireguard debug (or is there a quicker way?)

My audio volume was very very low, and very annoyingly I had to boost to 200% 300% which had the problem that the volume buttons were not working properly. You just cant see anything above 100% unless you go into the control panel. Now when it comes to audio I'm the village idiot, but I found a proper solution I think. After some experimentation I found that the module "module-cli-protocol-unix" ( #20 in my case) can be amplified with pactl set-sink-input-volume 20 10db Now YMMV depending on your attached hardware, so change the 10db to whatever suits your situation. After that I made it permanent by adding it to the /etc/pulse/default…

Greetings, Here's a quick and very dirty way to use the NVMe disk for the whole system, except the boot files and kernels which will be read from the SDCard. This method is UNSUPPORTED. Meaning that if you follow this procedure and your system broke, catched fire and start attacking you in your sleep, it's on you ! The reason I keep booting on the SDCard are : This makes boot issues easier to deal with since all the files are more easily accessible. It's easy to quickly read a SDCard from a PC using a SDCard reader USB dongle bought from the local store. Meanwhile mounting a NVMe<->USB readers are no…

Continuing the discussion from here On a clean install of 20.08.21 im able to crash the box within a few hours of it being under load. It appears as if the optimisations are being applied root@helios64:~# cat /proc/sys/net/core/rps_sock_flow_entries 32768 The suggestion @ShadowDance made to switch to the performance governor hasn't helped. Anecdotally, I think I remember the crashes always mentioning page faults, and early on there was some discussion about memory timing. Is it possible this continues to be that issue?

I'm trying to get desktop showing thru USB-C connector with appropriate usb-c to hdmi cable. I don't find errors in Xorg.0.log, but still I get no signal to my TV. I've installed desktop via armbian-config. Never done USB-C to any display, so I think I need some pointers to debug and get it to work... Did not find howtos or alike.

Hi all, I have a nanopi m4 with following installation - Armbian_22.05.4_Nanopim4v2_jammy_current_5.15.48_xfce_desktop. I am looking for someone who has retroarch installed on armbian and fully working, and what the key steps are. Im asking because: 1) I tried installing by command line, which installs retroarch to a location with no cores. An issue with rk3399 cores is that there are none to download and must be built seperately (Is there a way to update a file so that cores can be downloaded through the application?) 2) In an attempt to build retroarch + cores, i downloaded and built libretro, which took probab…

After kernel version 6.12.6, the overlay to enable SATA on the PCie is not included in the build anymore. So https://github.com/armbian/linux-rockchip/pull/237/commits/5bdf4a4243e6c149290cdd2c8f5a7d1a1946670e is not effective anymore. The existing .dts can be compiled and works with kernel 6.12.10-current-rockchip64 and 6.13.0-edge-rockchip64, but then NVMe is not enabled. From Rock3A schematics and RK3568 datasheet I see that there is no reason that it could not work as the NVMe is on independent PCIe 3x2 lanes in the M.2 M-key connector. PCIe 2x1 lane meant for WiFi/SATA is on E-key connector. It looks like 'entity PCIe is mixed up' somehow.…

Let's divide it into parts - Bluetooth Bluetooth isn't working. I've tried activating UART7 and GPIO pins 19 and 22, but to no avail. I installed the drivers, but to no avail. I am amazed My NanoPi M4 2gb plays Assaultcube and Torcs so well for a $85 computer it is a great achievement. But I have some questions. If I have more than 2 Bots/ enemies in Assaultcube 1024 X 768 graphics setting good, it seems to slow down game play, Is this because the bots are limited to a single CPU thread? and would therefore work better on larger Intel single or dual chips? Is any one else playing Assaultcube what settings are you finding optimize the RK3399? Seasalt.

Dear Forum! If you are using Emmc as boot device, a M.2-ssd as system device and OMV is installed. You can backup with the OMV given image-backup (dd, fsarchiver). But how you can restore the backup? You need to boot from Sdcard (boot and system from sd)? And after that you can switch again back to emmc-boot and ssd-system without any issue? Is there any other easier way i.e. with CloneZilla to image-backup/restore? How you can do this?

Hello, I have had a nanopc-t4 and a few others for a long time now. I have tried to create a working dtb for it a few different times. My understanding of device trees is superficial I have not had good success. I have read the kernels DT docs many times. I can of course run an ancient 4.19 kernel but I would much rather be at the edge. Currently I've got armbian 22, but no edp. I can boot Friendly's lubuntu and then the edp works. Although it is edp or hdmi not both. I must unplug the edp to get the hdmi port to work. Which is really undesirable. If I remember, it can only enable 2 of its 3 hdmi ports at a time, so that is likely a simple DT c…

So, I tried to adapt @Kwiboo and @jernej patches on my 5.6 branch, but this made the kernel fail to boot for no visible reason. Since I were able to boot it without the VPU patches, I'm convinced that it's their readaptation that broke something. The patches applied are here : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy64 If someone wants to play with them and determine which one break the boot process.

(boot and system are both on eMMC) - "unclick" SD card and leave it in the back. - (repeat, until something breaks, and then just insert it and restore using armbian-config if something goes wrong.) I am confused by the eMMC to SD card path though. Here's some context: ❯ lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT loop0 7:0 0 86.6M 1 loop /snap/core/10578 loop1 7:1 0 178.2M 1 loop /snap/microk8s/1866 loop2 7:2 0 86.6M 1 loop /s…

Edit: This is a duplicate already reported and a pull request in place. mods please delete The solution is to revert a patch related to power management. Symptoms are that ethernet link comes up, but no ip, dhcp, cannot assign ip address. the following patch resolves the issue on my system. I did not raise this in bug tracker since its not allowed to put things in there that are not supported. Unsure what else to do with info, hopefully it will help someone else. OS: Armbian_22.11.0 (5.15.71) for RockPi-4C HW: RockPi-4C I would like shared my eth0 connection via integrated wlan0 adapter. I have do all steps stated here: https://linuxhint.com/create-wifi-hotspot-linux-mint/ but when I try to connect my notebook to the hotspot wlan, notebook does not get proper IP address and so a internet sharing does not work . Any ideas to solve this problem?

Hello, just yesterday I got my new Orange Pi 5B. Unfortunately I'm facing the issue, that I cannot see any EMMC on Armbian. The Debian image that is delivered by Orange Pi itself is giving me access to the EMMC - so it's there with 256GB physically. lsblk shows only the SD card and zram drives. gparted is not starting up after installation at all. This is valid for all official downloadable versions like Jammy, Bullseye, Bookworm... Is there any driver available I would have to activate to use the EMMC device with the Armbian images? I'd really like better to run the board without SD card. Any idea?

I've done quite a bit of searching and can't find anyone else reporting this specific issue. As the title says any 6.8 image I try fails to boot. The LED is red for approx 4 seconds, turns green for 2 or 3 seconds, and then turns red again and stays that way no matter how long I wait. There is never any video regardless of which HDMI port I use. I've tried the following images: Armbian_24.8.0-trunk.85_Orangepi5-plus_noble_edge_6.8.12_gnome-oibaf_desktop.img.xz Armbian_24.5.1_Orangepi5-plus_noble_edge_6.8.10_gnome-oibaf_desktop.img.xz Armbian_24.5.1_Orangepi5-plus_noble_edge_6.8.10_xfce_desktop.img.xz Armbian_24.5.1_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_edge_6.8.10…

I have Rock64 Ver.2 - 1gb model. Was working fine with Armbian 24.5.0-trunk.211_Rock64_bookworm_current_6.6.21 - boot from micro SD card On SSH, I updated to latest version Armbian_25.2.1_Rock64_bookworm_current_6.12.13. Now it does not boot from micro SD card. I had another micro sd card. I flashed new Armbian_25.2.1_Rock64_bookworm_current_6.12.13 - does not boot. I had another micro sd card. I flashed OLD Armbian 24.5.0-trunk.211_Rock64_bookworm_current_6.6.21 - it boots. Then updated to latest Armbian & does not boot anymore. Looks like some " Flashing_u-boot_to_SPI_Flash " - problem. Please help. Thanks in advanced

Hi, I'm trying to build for the Rock 3C so that I can minimize what goes into the kernel and system. I'm new at this and tried mostly default values (current, bookworm), except that I did minimal image instead of standard. The build failed at applying a patch. I don't know what to do with that. Can anyone help me diagnose? Also, how would I get into more details about building the image and choosing what to add/remove? Thanks!

Hello, I just flashed the latest minimal img from the github releases (Armbian_community_26.2.0-trunk.7_Rock-3c_trixie_current_6.12.58_minimal.img.xz) but I see no output on hdmi and it gets stuck at login, nothing I type works.

Hi everybody, I am currently facing some struggles with the nanoPC-T4 recently bought to run armbian. When I got the board, I was able to run android default installed OS, but also armbian from a SD card. But along the way, I decided to install armbian on an NVMe SSD memory to prevent running the OS from the SD card, anyway ... That when I started playing to with the kernel build, u-boot, flashing the emmc etc .. I tried couple of times using the rockchip tool : developtool in MASKROM to play with the EMMC because I couldn't boot from the SD card, and wanted to start with a clean emmc, but every time the tool had to execute a libusb_bulk_transfer, …

I'm using Armbian 20.11.1 Focal (5.9.11-rockchip64) on my Helios64. When there's heavier load via ethernet (SFTP to a SATA Ultrastar 12TB disk) for something like more than an hour, the entire system will freeze. Not sure if it actually does freeze but I lose all SSH connections and cannot connect anymore via SSH unless I restart the Helios64. Happened today 4 times and it's totally reproducible. Haven't tested another drive yet. What makes this difficult to debug is that under /var/log/syslog or kern.log or faillog nothing relevant is being written as to in what state the device is. Is this a known issue? How can I find out what the problem i…

Title says it all: The Images offers by the site https://www.armbian.com/nanopineo3/ simply doesn't work on a NanoPi Neo3. I don't have a Serial-Connector to find out what's going on during the Boot-Process. I connected a Router on the Lan-Interface, and the Router never get a DHCP-Request from the Neo3. Tried multiple times, SD-Card is fine (tested). If I use an Image from a totally different Project (for Example "DietPi" which also offers a Neo3-Image), it works like a charm. Router gets DHCP-Request, I can connect using SSH (and so on), everything works. My Neo3 is working fine, Power-Supply is also good (it's made for Raspberry Pi and offers 5.1V and 3A...…

Hi all, I've been running the official Orange Pi 1.0.2 Jammy image (grabbed from their drive) since 2023, and I just realized I'm stuck on a 5.10.110 kernel with no real update path. Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-rockchip looked like a great alternative, but it's archived now, so Armbian is my default plan. I've browsed a bunch of threads here about eMMC installs on the 5B being finicky, so before I dive in I'd rather ask around first. Questions: Which Armbian image/branch/version do you run day to day on a 5B, and would you recommend it for a server? Is there a complete, up-to-date install guide for eMMC on the 5B specifically? Do I need t…

Since there is a thread about adding ZFS support to the U-Boot build, I thought I'd post a similar request for btrfs. I was looking through the helios u-boot repo a few days ago and noticed that it isn't built with btrfs support. While I could make a separate ext4 /boot partition, it would be convenient to have the entire eMMC formatted as btrfs. This allows for me to make easy and fast backups using btrfs send/receive, and also allows for snapshotting prior to upgrades (via e.g. snapper), and rolling back to a different snapshot at boot. My turris onmia router uses u-boot with btrfs native root, and I've used the snapshot rollback support a couple of times. They…

Hello, I have installed a tinkerboard 2S and used it without problems for more than a year now. Today I started Armbian-upgrade to upgrade the system.I use a M2 WIFI card. What happens right after the reboot when the upgrade was done; the system boots normally, showing all information on the monitor, and about 5 seconds after the login prompt is displayed, it completely freezes. That is; the system doesn't react to keypresses on my USB keyboard, and SSH access isn't reacting. I can ping the device however and I know it is not dead as my .NET core application is running normally and I can access it externally! I use a wifi hotspot configuration; the wifi n…

My Helios64 has been running without issue for quite a while -- at least a month. Now -- no power. Last logs on the SD card looked to be early in the morning yesterday. D9 is solid amber with battery, flashing without. No other LEDs on the board are illuminated. I've removed from the case and disconnected the previously attached drives just in case. On initial power the fans spin briefly and then ... nothing further. I've tapped and held various combinations of power and reset, etc -- no change. Can confirm with a voltmeter the original supply is making +12v. Can confirm a separate known working ATX supply on J10 has a constant +12V and …

While I like having the helios-ups.timer in case of power failure, I don't like that my logs get three lines written to them every 20 seconds. Hi, I'm very pleased with my Helios 64, but since I updated to Armbian 20.11.6 (from 20.08.11 or 21, not really sure) it reboots at random times: it can run fine for over two weeks and reboot twice in 36 hours, always when idling. It's running OMV as well a multiple Docker containers: PiHole, Wireguard, Nginx, Transmission, restic-server and n8n. Is it a common issue? What fixes do you recommend? What should I look for to diagnose the issue? Thank you. Edit: forgot to mention that I'm using SnapRAID and mergerFS, as well as NFS shares.

https://github.com/sigmaris/u-boot First I tried the mainline uboot v2022.04 version and the sigmaris uboot, in the uboot command line I executed the nvme info command and found no nvme devices available. https://github.com/radxa/u-boot Since the radxa version does not have the relevant configuration files for nanopc-t4, the compilation and testing of the radxa version is abandoned. Is the patch in this thread for the mainline v2020.04 release? @piter75 @Hover

By pure accident, I discovered that Ctrl-Alt-F1 while the P2 is booting brings up more options on mine that allows the deletion of firmware and clearing of emmc. I have not done it but the menus are there.

Hello, I faced an issue some weeks ago with a brand new eMMC card on my RockPi 4A that is now solved. I succeeded in installing Armbian onto it from the running SD card but quickly found tons of error messages in syslog related to eMMC, of the following: Mar 2 21:53:46 rockpi1 kernel: [ 2107.590024] mmc1: running CQE recovery Mar 2 21:53:46 rockpi1 kernel: [ 2107.609557] mmc1: running CQE recovery Mar 2 21:53:46 rockpi1 kernel: [ 2107.615886] mmc1: running CQE recovery Mar 2 21:53:46 rockpi1 kernel: [ 2107.617068] blk_update_request: I/O error, dev mmcblk1, sector 17498312 op 0x1:(WRITE) flags 0x104000 p hys_seg 17 prio class 0 Mar 2 21:53:46 ro…
