  1. My current setup is the tinkerboard powered by the raspberry pi universal adapter connected to ethernet and a external HDD(Maxtor M3) powered by the Tinkerboard's usb. I have used it very lightly in this configuration (ssh-ing into it and copying some files to the hdd) but from what I have gathered from the information available here this powering setup is inedequate and will lead to problems. So I want to follow the recommended method and power it through the GPIO pins. I am considering using this or this powersupply. (I realize 10A on the second one is overkill for the tinkerboard, but the price difference from the 3A rated one is minimal and I could find some othe…

Alright, the biggest issue with the ASUS Tinkerboard being "resolved", I'm starting to take care of the VPU driver, in order to use it with mainline kernels. The hardware video encoding/decoding facilities are the real meat of the RK3288, and recent Rockchip boards. The VPU driver aims to use these facilities in order to provide the smooth video playback experience that every Netflix/Hulu addict expects when buying such boards. Which mean, once this part dealt with, you might be able to enjoy your Multimedia oriented distributions/softwares on your Rockchip boards (MiQi, Tinkerboard and maybe Pine64 too !) 14. Hi. I need hardware OpenGL ES, at least 2.0. I’ve tried this https://github.com/rockchip-linux/libmali It works OK on latest Asus OS 2.0.1, but for Armbian 5.33 kernel 4.4.88 it doesn’t: ERROR: The DDK is not compatible with any of the Mali GPUs on the system. The DDK was built for 0x750 r0p0 status range [1..1], but none of the GPUs matched: Segmentation fault I don’t have much experience with Linux, but IMO it might mean the kernel + userland parts of the GPU driver are incompatible. Is there a working GPU driver for Mali-T76x on Armbian? Thanks in advance! Regards, Kosta.

  18. Hello everyone, I've begun working to target the Armbian Legacy Tinker Board build to the Rockchip kernel. There are a list of reasons why it needs done, including some relatively large differences between the current kernel's code base and the Rockchip kernel (making it hard to patch with bugfixes/etc) and inactivity on the part of the vendor of that kernel. There are also reasons I am preferring to use the Rockchip kernel rather than the ASUS kernel. First and formost is the need to also support the MiQi. The miniarm branch of Rockchip and the ASUS kernel have board-specific fixes written in such a way as to not be friendly to other boards. I've dec…

  33. *Updated 7-23* ~~All kernels should be fixed at this point, Legacy, Next, and Dev.~~ The ASUS Tinker Board has a big problem with rebooting properly, centered around the SD card power supplies. Upon issuing a shutdown request, the kernel is turning everything off , including the vmmc regulator. To make matters worse, vqmmc is set to 1.8 Volts if you use a UHS SD card, and the kernel is not switching it back to 3.3 volts before rebooting, which is required if the Rockchip boot ROM is to communicate with the device. The result is a hung board in MaskROM mode. For the Default kernel (4.4), a patch was carried over from the vendor softwa…

  57. Hello, I'm having issues with my Orange Pi 4 LTS. I cannot get any HDMI output at the moment. Neither with the Debian flashed on the eMMC, or with Armbian running of the SD card. In both cases I can SSH into the Orange and run commands normally. The HDMI worked just a day before, but in the meantime I was flashing different systems and it stopped working. I tried different monitors and cables. Any ideas what can I do?

  59. I put a TinkerBoard in a Pi-Top CEED and using TinkerOS 2.0.8 it boots and the LCD works fine. Using Armbian it looks like it boots but nothing is displayed on the LCD. The Pi-Top CEED uses a HDMI to 30-pin converter board and the current LCD is a 1920x1080 14in that I used to upgrade the original. Any ideas why the Raspberry running Raspbian and The Tinkerboard running TinkerOS would work with the display but Armbian wouldn’t?

  61. I want to install jellyfin as a docker container on my Orange pi 5. How can I enable hardware acceleration for it? On the container page (https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/jellyfin) there are instructions for various options, but orange pi 5 is not there of course. I have enabled 3D acceleration as mentioned on the armbian page for orange pi 5.

  62. I updated to Armbian 26.2.1 on OPi5, and it can't boot from MTD (rootfs at NVMe), and I have to use SD card to boot to NVMe as workaround. After looking into this issue, I found rkspi_loader.img is no longer available for current (6.18.8 kernel) u-boot pkg and armbian-config flashes u-boot-rockchip-spi.bin ( or similar sata version) to /dev/mtdblock0 and I think this is wrong image for MTD bootloader. If I use older vendor image, which u-boot pkg has rkspi_loader.img, system can boot to NVMe rootfs and I notice that /dev/mtdblock0 has several gpt partitions including u-boot one, and flashing u-boot-rockchip-spi.bin erases partitions in SPI flash. With HDMI USB support. https://disk.yandex.ru/d/W8pOOhizVjq91A To enable HW acceleration, install the mesa package with the forced overwrite option or an archive to enable acceleration for wayland. To enable wayland acceleration, you need to replace the files in the /usr/lib/aarch64-linux-gnu directory with the contents of the archive (with file replacement). After that, acceleration will work with wayland. X11 and wayland acceleration works the same way on Debian Sid (the images are the same as Ubuntu). After starting the system and initial configuration, replace the files from the archive…

  65. Hello everyone Just would like to start a discussion about the current state of video acceleration (decoding only, h.265/h.264/av1). The soc (rk3588) recently got mainline support for these features in 7.0: https://gitlab.collabora.com/hardware-enablement/rockchip-3588/notes-for-rockchip-3588/-/blob/main/mainline-status.md Has anyone tested this on a OPI5 already, especially using Kodi? Does this work ootb there now? Regards, XXXBold

  67. Hello, I own a RockPro64 and I'm using Armbian Legacy Buster 4.4.213-rockchip64. Everything mostly works, although I've had a pretty annoying issue. Reboot just doesn't work. Every time I do a 'sudo reboot' (or any equivalent for that matter, as for example 'sudo shutdown -r now') it doesn't work. Although it apparently reboots, the TV monitor to which my box it's connected via HDMI lose connection and all, nothing actually happens. Both the red and the white leds of the RP64 turn on and keep on all time (instead of just one of them blinking, as expected) and then it will work only if I poweroff and on again, either by unplugging the power cable or…

  68. Hello again, Based on the recommendations provided in a previous ticket, I have decided to attempt to build a custom image for the Orangepi 5 Plus. I read the docs provided in the link of that post and noticed that there is no mention of installing the cross complier tool chain for arm in ubuntu 22.04, which I just downloaded for this purpose. Do I need to install those tools or will that be addressed once I clone the git repo and run the compile.sh BOARD=orangepi5-plus ? Also the instructions mention Multipass and Docker, I have a Debian 12 workstation with virt-manager installed, will that work or will I need a dedicated ubuntu 22.04…

  69. Hi all, I've got an application that runs from the terminal and with it failing to work on Tinker OS I've gone back to my default OS, Armbian, where it works faultless. However, everything worked great on my own 25" Philips monitor.... The Tinker Boards will be plugged into a number of 1440 x 900 60hz Samsung and LG HDMI monitors; the only screens available where I am. When using these screens I get a 2-3 pixel vertical purple line down the left of the screen and horrific 1 pixel high, long horizontal multi-coloured lines 'snowing' down the screen like old TV interference. The LG monitors consistently flicker on and off trying to change resolution.…

I recently patched and compiled a kernel to run real time with the rt preempt. 72. As discussed on multiple threads, the aim of this thread is to bring all RockChip devices under one BSP (4.4) Kernel. This discussion can be found (partly): and a bit background here: https://github.com/rockchip-linux/kernel/issues/98 Cause I'm not willing to cut out all this stuff from the related threads (this would end in a complete disaster) I try to summarize it here (if something is missing, let me know I'll add it): RockChips BSP kernel is not longer an option. Cause it breaks faster that our current resources allow to fix it. Having all SoCs under one kernelsource would make it more predictable and decrease the efforts needed to keep…

  73. Seems like the kernel 6.12.16 just does not boot - either updated regularly or from "rolling" minimal image. Steps to reproduce: - 1 way - just burn and run current "rolling" minimal image (Armbian_25.5.0-trunk.115_Orangepi4-lts_plucky_current_6.12.16_minimal). Result: Getting no records on UART after "Starting kernel..." and only red led shining. - 2 way Enabling kernel updates from already up to date Armbian v25.2.2 with older 5.15.76-rockchip64 (`# sudo armbian-config` -> System -> Kernel -> SY201 - Install alternative kernels) Result: same as above - 3 way Enabling kernel updates from older Armbian 22.08.10 without Armbian update itself.…

  74. Are there any USB WiFi adapters that are supported out of the box? Nothing fancy, just looking for a cheap readily available USB WiFi adapter that doesn't require finding kernel headers and downloading modules to compile that will then be wiped out by the next release. I am currently using Armbian_23.02.0-trunk.0220_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_xfce_desktop.img installed and booting from a 256GB NVME drive. Ethernet is an option but I'd like to make it more portable. What have you guys used and had success with? My network is WiFi 6+ but not having the best speed is just fine. Thanks in advance.

  76. Hey folks, im trying to compile a realtime kernel for mt orange pi 5. I plan to use it for djing. A fully preemptive kernel delivers better performance for this, as less xruns appear. I am following the official dev instructions and am using the docker method, Compiling only the kernel, not the entire armbian OS. I copied a realtime patch (actually I tried several sub versions of 5.10) from the kernel.org realtime project site into the userpatches directory (I looked up the correct orange pi 5 subfolder name but forgot it rn) but compiling throws me some errors. 78. Hello there. At present I power my Tinker Board S with a bench power supply set to 5.25V. The power supply has 10A current limiter. I measure the voltage at the GPIO pins using a 6.5 digit multimeter (in cal). The micro usb cord is 1.2 meters (4 feet). When the board is running in tinker os at idle, it is drawing 500mA, and i read 5.00V on the GPIO. But when I load the CPU using sysbench the current spikes to 1.6A, and the voltage measured on the GPIO drops to 4.45V. I measured that the micro USB cable is 0.37Ohm resistance, so about 0.55V of that power drop is due to the micro usb cable. That means all of the voltage drop is not due to the power c…

Good evening, last week they changed the electric meter in my building, but in order to do so they cut the power, and my Tinkerboard (the first model, the one issued back in 2017, Asus first's SBC), that I use as my "Save for later, and never look at it again" network folder, suffered. It continued to reboot from some kernel panic, which I forgot to take note; but since it hadn't been upgraded to jammy, I took the opportunity to do it. Pluging in the uSD card (with the newly released jammy version, just downloaded here), power, and all (including the ethernet cord!!), first boot I have to create my user (which, for some reasons refuses to let me put my usual fr3d tag…

I tried installing the OS using SD card and EMMC, but both failed. Orange Pi OS (Arch) on the official website ran normally. However, I installed focal_desktop_xfce or jammy_desktop_gnome from Ubuntu Image, but they all failed. After inserting the image into the SD card, the symptom is a black screen and no booting. Does it only support SSD? Because it is entered through a translator, there may be unnatural sentences. If you reply about that, I will get back to you.

  90. Hi, last night a set of updates was installed and I rebooted the Orange Pi 5+ this morning. After the reboot I've seem to have lost the connection to the Orange Pi 5+, it is normally connected without a screen so I access it through SSH and the Open Media Vault web GUI. I've tried to connect it to a screen and then it seems to boot up just fine. Looking around with the screen connected it seems like the network cards aren't detected.
