I've found information on how to use your own IR remote controller from this site: https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=215&t=44671 In short: 1. Enable logging from the IR kernel module, enter in a terminal: sudo -i echo 1 > /sys/module/rockchip_pwm_remotectl/parameters/code_print dmesg -w 2. Check if your remote is supported by pressing the keys on your remote. It should give you info like: [ 3485.342354] USERCODE=0xfb04 [ 3485.369309] RMC_GETDATA=fd 3. Download the overlay file below and edit the usercode and the code for each key. So for like with the key above it'll be 0xfd 4. Place the header f…

Hello, After several days of debug I put the finger on a very strange issue using integrated Ethernet. I use my Rockpro64 mostly as a Samba and DNS server. In my network context I implement 2 vlans as vlan interfaces (eth0.10 and eth0.20). Each of these interfaces needs to use a specific mac address that differs from physical eth0 mac address (it is an important point). If I use only the physical mac my router is not be able to route correctly between vlans (probably an ivl/svl issue). Under this context I first noticed that when I bring down eth0.20 although using vlan 10 (so eth0.10) connectivity is lost. I then wr…

Hi there, I've been using ARMbian for a couple of years now under a Rock Pi S board. I'm using an ARMbian OS image based on kernel 4.4x because it have a virtual wlan interface called P2P0, this allow me to use the board as WiFi repeater, I've written a post about it here. However, in recent ARMbian OS images with kernel 5.x and 6.x that virtual interface isn't there. I see in ARMbian OS image with kernel 6.x that the WiFi Hotspot set up menu in the armbian-config tool show an interface called p2p0-dev, but it doesn't work. My question: why? these newer kernels have limitations on this board? or maybe need to compile the kernel with custom modifications?. …

Introduction This guide describes a tested method for running Android, Armbian, and Ubuntu on the same NVMe SSD of the Orange Pi 5 Plus. This is not an official Orange Pi installation procedure. The entire workflow was developed through extensive real-world testing. The following configuration has been successfully verified: ✅ Android boots from the NVMe SSD. ✅ Armbian boots from the same NVMe SSD via UEFI. ✅ Ubuntu boots from the same NVMe SSD via UEFI. ✅ All three operating systems coexist on a single NVMe SSD. ✅ Armbian and Ubuntu share the same EFI partition. ✅ Android, Armbian, and Ubuntu can share a common data partition. 1. I have 2 5C Lite boards a 2Gb and 4Gb version, neither have HDMI output with any stock images either from armbian or radxa. Thru desperation I found an Android image that booted and had screen output, so the HDMI works atleast. After stuffing around I found that the u-boot image extracted from the Rock-5D t2(rsdk) and injected into Rock-5C b1(rsdk) Bookworm_kde image boots and has working screen. Longer story short, getting Armbian 24.11 to work... Narrowed it down from replacing the entire u-boot.itb, I can get a working desktop with kernel version 5.10 Bookworm by removing the rng@fe378000 trngvl section (enabled mali400/bifrost driver in ke…

Hi @Kwiboo and Armbian rk35xx maintainers, I'm hitting a boot-time eMMC reliability issue on NanoPi R76S with the current Armbian U-Boot 2026.04 build, and the community-known workaround from OpenWrt PR #23520 breaks kernel boot completely in our Armbian environment. *UPDATED - The issue is the powered USB3 hub which is actually NOT USB3 as advertised and is instead USB2. Sorry to have wasted your time* Hi, I have a 1TB SATA SSD in a USB3 enclosure (that supports UASP) connected to a USB3 powered hub, which in turn connects to the Top USB3 port of an Orange Pi 5 4GB. Armbian (Debian Bookworm) is installed and running from a 128GB NVME drive plugged into the M2 slot of the Orange Pi 5. If I do an "lsusb -t" I get the output shown below. The SSD is Bus 02, Port 3, Dev 5 and is using the uas driver but is showing USB2 speed of 480M rather than USB3 speed of 5000M. I have also tried pluggi…

and, BTW, this will probably work on any SBC that has pwm and working port of wiringPi (wiringOP is much simpler than the dtbo method, IMO) WHY: I don't like fans that run full speed ALL the time pwm fans are a bit limited on the ground in small size, and expensive The SBC has pwm pins, so why not use them none of the examples I have found are adequate, either gpio off/full or excessive python scripts, 40 lines or more,, the bash script is ~ 10 lines Some of the wiringOP/gpio packages don't work (ubuntu-full desktop) try the commands in rc.local, if they don't work, then,,, dpkg -l |grep wiring; apt remove ..... git clone https://github.com/orangepi-x…

Hello everyone, I'm a newcomer to ARMBIAN, and I'm eager to transition from my current stock Odroid (20.04) setup (petitboot full nvme SSD) to a more up-to-date distribution, complete with the latest kernel upgrades. I've taken the time to go through the documentation and here's what I've gathered: It appears that native booting from an nvme SSD or USB isn't possible (yet?). Instead, I'll need to use microSD cards or an emmc module for booting while installing the system on an nvme SSD. I also understand that deactivating petitboot is necessary. Now, I have a few questions: Q1: Do I have a correct understanding of these two p…

I have tested this on a NanoPi R5C as well as on NanoPC-T6 (non-LTS). For the later I also tested a vender provided Kernel / OS Installation. What happens is that whenever some Power-Saving is requested, the board will seemingly fully power down and is not responsive to anything, at best the reset button will do its work, R5C requires a power-cycle. The last kernel msgs are these (see https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/power/states.txt😞 # echo freeze > /sys/power/state [ 54.373374] PM: suspend entry (s2idle) [ 54.671033] Filesystems sync: 0.297 seconds [ 54.775176] Freezing user space processes [ 54.780065] Freezing user space process…

In order to enumerate the major issues that are *still* valid now, I'm creating a 'crash dump' thread. The idea is simple, if your RK3399 board crashed recently, you just : Write what happened during the crash; Provide the link you got from sudo armbianmonitor -u , after the crash happened; Provide the content of /var/log/kern.log (if this file is present on your system) (attach it or copy the content on pastebin and link it here). No discussion here. Feel free to create a new dedicated thread afterwards to talk about the problem you encountered. Minor issues are welcome too, if they trigger a BUG message in your logs…

Hi folks... Looking at RK3288 on Armbian and the power/thermals - which are considerable considering SBC's like tinkerboard and miqi Currently - looks like all cores are following the same power/time domain - so one core goes fast, and the others follow, so sucks power and raises temps, and we get heat soaked quickly... Looking at the Rockchip docs, it does look like the RK3288 does have PD's for each core along with other logic... Six separate power domains for every core to support internal power switch and externally turn on/off based on different application scenario * PD_A17_0: 1st Cortex-A17 + Neon + FPU + L1 I/D Cache * PD_A…

I have a MKS TS35 v2.0, that uses ST7796/ILI9341 (or ILI9486, I think) for LCD and ADS7843E for touch, and now I want to use it in my Asus Tinker Board for Klipper. I know that it's possible because exists one HOW-TO of this for Raspberry Pi 3b+. I wanna that someone, with knowledge in Armbian and Tinker Board, build (adapt) this DTS on GITHUB https://github.com/fbeltrao-br/mksts35/blob/main/mksts35v2.dts. I want this especially because the pinout https://github.com/fbeltrao-br/mksts35/blob/main/pinout.png, that is more easy for me understand what pins I need connect.

I am trying to get the ARM performance assessment setup working (I'm trying to get Mali profiling for OpenCL code) on the Rock 5B+, and I've hit a blocker. The main component to this is some kernel configuration (CONFIG_ARM_SPE_PMU) and a loadable module. Oddly, those work fine in a custom kernel build. What I am hitting appears to be some missing interrupt setup that renders all those components inert. (It has to be a custom build to get CONFIG_ARM_SPE_PMU set. The issue is that even with the kernel configured and the module loaded, the SPE component remains inactive. ARM has its own system report tool which analyzes a setup, and that tool is re…

Hello, The issue I describe below begins with a simple 1GB/s speed test with iperf3 (using tcp, then udp). With tcp everything is almost ok. With udp it's an other story. I then try to narrow down : - I connect directly to the switch and try again : in and out switch ports show near max speed (~1 Gbps), however the iperf3 server logs show 2 or 3 transfers at reduced speed, then show no tran…

Looks like the current-rockchip64 kernel that one receives with apt on PINE64 rockpro64 is 3.18.10 (6.18.10-current-rockchip64), vulnerable to copy-fail. This seems weird because if you go to https://armbian.com/boards/rockpro64 that page says that the "current" kernel for these systems is 6.18.26 and that is what you get when you download the image file. Is there an issue with updating the apt repos?

I've compiled it and enabled it, but by default the fan is not spinning (on high temps) and I'm not sure how to investigate that. Also, does it matter that I have 5C Lite? Hi there, I have set up a tinkerboard S and I'm loving armbian so far. I only just encountered a weird problem. When i try to code in spyder3 there seems to be a messup in the keys i press and the key that is produced in spyder3. The funny thing is that this only occurs in spyder. When I type in terminal or gummi everything works fine. I am connecting to my TB using vnc using X. I've googled a bit around and found this could be a error of the XKEYBOARD as written here (I am however still not sure): https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder/issues/3713 However I cant apply the proposed solution. I've found i need to go to /etc/X11/xorg.c…

Hi, I've been running Armbian legacy server on my 5+ for a month now. When a new version of Armbian comes out for the 5+ and it may be a 6.8 kernel build, will I need to re-flash the SPI before I can install the newer version of Armbian (or another image from that's not Armbian?) before updating the EMMC. I found the steps on the Radxa site insightful for a general overview of SPI Nor and flashing (I understand it not an OPi5 x board), but it's not clear to me if a different OS will ne…

I have tried to get the CSI port working on my Radxa Zero 3W with the GEEKOM X1301 HAT, and now I can get the chip to show up in /dev, however there seems to be an issue when I try to access it, as I keep getting ioctl errors. Then I enabled the radxa-zero3-tc358743.dtbo overlay, which gets the devices to show up. I am following this guide from GEEKOM https://wiki.geekworm.com/X1300_Software, however, I keep getting ioctl errors when trying to set the EDID file on the Radxa Zero. On the Raspberry Pi, this was not an issu…

Hi, I installed "Armbian_20.02.7_Tinkerboard_buster_current_5.4.28_minimal" at my tinkerboard and, in order to enable uart 4, I had to rebuild the kernel onboard (from linux-source-current-rockchip_20.02.7_all.deb). The uart 4 came alive but the processor serial number now is missing from cpuinfo (printing 0000000000). How can I bring it up again?

Hi Referring to https://forum.armbian.com/topic/32667-usb-c-port-doesnt-work-on-pinebook-pro-after-the-latest-update-on-kernel-662/ USB -C is not working. I also tried 6.7.4-edge with no success. Looking for a solution G??gle found this: https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-arm-108/pinebook-pro-usb-c-port-not-working-after-kernel-upgrade-4175732886/#google_vignette referring to Megi`s 6.7 kernel. The link was outdated, but the base worked and had versions 6.8 and 6.9. Tried both with a lot of success: USB-C working and the HDMI monitor output as well as Gigabit Ethernet work like a charm again. 😄 The only small issue remaining: Sound is not w…

Hello! I'm new to this forum but i follow the SBC comunity for a long time. I have a Pine 64, a bunch of raspberryies, 2 nanopies and some "japanese" arm64 tablet. Now i have bought a Radxa 5 Mini-ITX and i'm very happy with it. I was capable to compile ffmpeg with the rockchip extensions and exploit the RK3588 VPU and the NPU with face recognition. Now i was testing the HDMI Input of the board and unfortunaly discovered that the video is capturing just fine but i'm out of luck with the audio side. On the kernel 6.1.115 (last BSP at the moment i think) the recording device of the audio input is not visible in arecode -l This is what i see: **** List…

Hi everyone! I have recently bought an Orange Pi 5 Plus (16 GB RAM) and installed Armbian (the Pi Plus version). Then I enabled GPU hardware acceleration, as suggested on the Armbian download page, which then updated chromium and other things to the rkmpp versions. Now, if I start chromium under Wayland (tried Sway, Gnome, and KDE), the hardware acceleration works nicely, so I get good FPS on e.g. WebGL aquarium, and similar things. However, the antialiasing of some items on the screen does not seem to be working. Antialiasing in WebGL seems off as well. You can see an example in the attached screenshot. Here's what I have tried so far: Before installing GP…

I have an encrypted root partition, and on booting, it asks me for the passphrase to decrypt it. This was shown on the screen when I was using the 6.6.47 kernel, but on the 6.12.11 kernel, nothing is shown on the screen at all until I've successfully typed the passphrase and it's started booting. Here's the armbianmonitor -u output for the working 6.6.47 kernel: https://paste.next.armbian.com/suporamoqe And here's the output for the not-quite-so-working 6.12.11 kernel: https://paste.armbian.de/cuxaxoweci This isn't a huge deal for me, since I usually close my eyes while typing the passphrase anyway, but it means I have to guess when it…

Hi team, I am on the latest vendor release of gnome installed via armbian installer. Kernel is linux-image-6.1.115-*-rk2410. Hello, finally I have time to play with my OPI5, first thing I tried is to install on USB-C, but the port doesn't seem to work. Then I tried to install using USB3 port, on a ssd drive. The armbian-install utility seems to do the job and after installing the bootloader on mtdblock0 I powered off. At reboot everything is like before: if I remove the sd card the systen won't boot. If I boot with the sd card inserted the root partition is on /dev/mmcblk0p2 First thing that came into my mind is to mount SPI and check if bootloader is ok, but I'm unable to mount it: ~# mount /dev/mtdblock0 /mnt/spi mount: /mnt/spi: wrong fs type, bad optio…

HI all, first of all, I found thi sissue adopting a new board to the CSC tree, done by @balbes150. As it seems to be a problem of RK3288 in general, I post here, in case please move the topic to the approriate place. I have a JLD076 board, and started adjusting the DTS to the schematic. According to the schematic, and the TRM of RK3289, there is a maximum number of 160 GPIOs. This is also the number I get from my schematics. So I expected th get suitable number of pins from gpioinfo (bank:number 0:19, 1:4, 2:18, 3:28, 4:26, 5:12, 6:19, 7:24, 8:10). Instead, I get listed (0:24, 1...7:32, 8:16). I tried now to set ngpios for the &…

So those of us working on getting Retro Pie working on the Tinkerboard have run into a road block. Perhaps someone here might have a clue on this? Current using these instructions to build Retro Pie using the legacy Armbian Debian (4.4) https://github.com/Tinkerpie/Armbian-Setup And for audio over HDMI you need to currently make a change in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf setting defaults.pcm.card to 1 When this script linked down below: https://github.com/Rydra/bgm-for-es The BGM script takes over all audio so for instance the audio in games does not work or any other audio such as audio from the video sna…

Hi there Board, I have bought my Tinkerboard after some good research with my fellow techies at Red Hat and reading thoroughly that 19+pages Tinkerboard Thread. After crafting a super lean/mean kernel (kconfig at https://gist.github.com/rfrht/5f0fa113f12fbacf832e57ff4967785a ), I got a stable and lightweight kernel configuration. Things got a lot funnier when doing some compatibility tests with specific Asterisk versions, I was able to install and run cleanly a Raspi .DEB pkg. And that got me thinking. I have now JUST replaced the Raspberry Pi with the Tinkerboard. And guess what: It was a _inplace_ upgrade! Using the same u…

HI!! I need help. What is the correct way to install armbian? I have an odroid m1, with a nvme 2 TB. I installed armbian and also stored my files on the same disk. The problem is that the nvme where I have all my files is not accessible and therefore I cannot copy them to another drive. When I mount the nvme drive (with external case) on my laptop with Ubuntu, the files do not appear. Anyone have an issue where on a fresh install with apt update and upgrade I create a hotspot then have openvpn connect on boot. It works fine as a hotspot with 200mbps up and down but when the traffic is routes through a vpn by connecting openvpn the board will crash/become unresponsive if the upload is used heavily. Works great until I run a speedtest and on the upload the board will crash. Normal use is fine even pegging download causes no issue. Hi, ive been trying to resolve the screen issue issue on my cb2 for a few days now, i cannot get it to work. I'm running Armbian_26.2.1_Bigtreetech-cb2_trixie_current_6.18.8_minimal, everything works. HDMI outputs to a 4K display just fine except for my small 5" display, which just stays black. The os has not been tempered with, i've flashed a fresh copy and used armbian-upgrade it, thats all. I've diagnosed the problem enough to see that its an EDID issue or the rk3566 just not likely my weird screen resolution. BTT os who also use armbian as a base somehow fixed this official issue. The display is being detected by the OS. My Armbian OS: root@big…

In our testing, when attempting to use various Wi-Fi mini-PCIe/M.2 adapters from Intel and Realtek, we've encountered problem: oftentimes OS will not see PCIe device with error "PCIe link training gen1 timeout". Some days it happens only in 1/10 boots, other days it can stop working completely. After long debugging we've found that 24-pin FPC cable that connects Orangepi and official connector board (PCIE-SOCKET-OPI4-4B) does not pass PERST signal from Orangepi. Instead, it is high by default and the only way to temporarily set it to low is by pressing physical button on connector board. As far as I understand, PERST signal basically tells the connected de…

The base device tree for the Renegade (roc-rk3328-cc) already includes a PWM2 device but armbian does not include the .dtbo to enable it. Thus, it is also unavailable through armbian-config. Continuing the tradition (1, 2) of micro-optimizations for single-board computers that come into my hands. This time I optimized or rather fixed the wake-up function via USB/WoL/WWoL on the Orange Pi 5 Plus. Also got the WiFi adapter RTW8852BE/RTW8852CE working (at least those are the ones I tested). I tested exclusively on the Vendor 6.1.x kernel since the main wake-up features via USB/PCIE/GPIO1-GPIO4 only work in it. I don't currently have the ability to test the new current kernel and I doubt that Power Management will work fully there. Hello community, I am working on a multi-channel audio project using a Rock Pi S (Rockchip RK3308) running a modern Mainline Kernel (6.18.y-current-rockchip64). My hardware setup relies on a fixed wiring where the Master Clock (MCLK) is connected to Pin 7 (GPIO2_A4) and BCLK is connected to Pin 12 (GPIO2_A5) using the i2s_8ch_0 controller. The Goal: We want to keep the working I2S/TDM master device tree foundation but replace the old, silent dummy codec (linux,spdif-dit) with the actual internal hardware codec (rockchip,rk3308-codec), so that ALSA maps the channels correctly instead of routing them into a digital void. Note: W…

On my Odroid M1 I have a display that will not work, other displays do work. Unfortunately, I need this display to work. When I plug it in, I see "PHY PLL not locked" in dmesg. If I boot with it plugged in, I see the Hard Kernel logo, then the screen turns off as Armbian boots. I booted into the Ubuntu 20.04 Gnome image provided by HardKernel and that one works. 1. What could I change to allow this display to be detected? 2. Can I just force the board to boot with output to 1024x768@60. I just need the output. Thanks all.

Hello! I had an issue upgrading my khadas edge2 to the linux-image-edge-rockchip-rk3588 package (24.8.0-trunk.597) on the edge/rolling release image I had installed. It looks like issues with building the initramfs files, specifically trying to symlink on top of a file that already exists and/or copying the /bin/osk-sdl binary. The following seems to have allowed me to use apt install -f to get the kernel and initramfs files to be built and installed successfully. Probably the change in the symlink code was unnecessary, but I did both and got a bootable system out of it, so it's a bit late for me to test. I made the following changes to /usr/share/…

Hello, I'm trying to setup a hotspot on a tinkerboard S running bullseye. Following the procedure from https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/ at the point where it requires: 2. Copy /etc/network/interfaces.hostapd to /etc/network/interfaces i realize the file interfaces.hostapd is missing, even though hostapd is installed hostapd is already the newest version (3:2.10-6~armbian22.02.3+1) I manually created the file with the following content even though I'm not sure if that's correct (as referred in one post on the forum): auto lo br0 iface lo inet loopback all…

Hi. Great work with Armbian. Any good advice setting up Wayland and pipewire (for OBS studio) on the Orange pi 5 (23.02 jammy gnome)? I did manage to install both pipewire+pipewire-media-session+pipewire-pulse+related qt5 Wayland package and setting up QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland environment variable. But no luck.

Hi. I am not complaining. I just would like to understand why I must deactivate https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/liujianfeng1994/rockchip-multimedia/ubuntu/ if I want watching video on Youtube. If it's needed to disable this repo for watching video. I am ok. But why I can't read video with package from this repo? https://paste.armbian.com/vaxedisuda

Hello everyone, I'm using the latest Armbian version on Tinker board. I notice that if I dont use for a few minute then my monitor will go blank and I need to press any keyboard or mouse click to make a monitor works again. Is there a way to turn off that functionality ? I would like to keep my monitor on all the time. Thank you

Hello! I don't really have a question, but just wanted to report I tried out the generic UEFI arm64 image on a Pinebook Pro, and it installed emmc and booted just fine! This was possible because I had installed Tow-Boot to the SPI flash, which supports UEFI booting. I had tried using the Pinebook Pro build of armbian, which worked fine when booting off the sdcard, but installing it to the emmc wasn't working. I'm using Tow-Boot 2021.10 then arbmian image Armbian_22.08.7_Uefi-arm64_jammy_current_5.15.74 . There's a few rough edges in the grub menu, but it boots the OS off the emmc just fine. Should the…

Just reporting that there is some tx-offload bug in the ASUS Tinker Board Rockchip. I think I read about this issue regarding other rockchip/platforms when checksum offload bugs on large packets. When I run ethtool -K eth0 tx off I stop having issues with NFS over TCP The last part of diagnosis is when I forced a NFS crash by enabling tx offloading.
