Please forgive me if it is a stupid question, but what is preventing us from keeping n previous kernels installed in case an update is broken and does not boot? Fedora does it, Ubuntu does too. In general it should be simpler to boot a previous kernel than to try to pull the SD card and fix it in a second machine.

WiFi on the Xiaomi Elish device functions correctly with kernel version 6.12.4. However, after upgrading to kernel 6.12.13 via apt, the NetworkManager reports that the device is "not ready," and the WiFi fails to initialize. I have also tried reinstalling the system by flashing the kernel and rootfs downloaded from [Armbian for Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro](https://www.armbian.com/xiaomi-pad-5-pro/), but the issue persists. ``` xiaomi-elish:~:# uname -a Linux xiaomi-elish 6.12.13-current-sm8250 #1 SMP Sat Feb 8 08:58:20 UTC 2025 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux xiaomi-elish:~:# cat /etc/issue Armbian 25.2.2 Noble \l root@xiaomi-elish:~# journalctl -b 0 -u NetworkManage…

Hi Armbian_25.5.1_Rpi4b_bookworm_current_6.12.28 broken after last upgrade. I run apt upgrade which installed kernel 6.18.10. It breaks ZFS. Provided ZFS version, 2.3.2, supports kernels up to 6.14. Don't forget a snapshot before "apt upgrade" 🙂 Regards, Chris

I wonder if anyone can help. I have downloaded the latest build for my odroid-xu4 and have the kernel version 4.9.51-odroidxu4. The trouble is I cannot find any where the kernel headers for this particular version. The kernel headers that come with the dist is 4.9.31-odroidxu4 and when I do apt-get kernel-headers-$(uname -r) or apt-get kernel-headers-next I get version 5.0.33 and I cannot seem to download the version that I need to compile drivers. Anyone know where the version 4.9.51-odroidxu4 linux headers are? Thanks

I just installed latest Jammy on XU-4 and it was running fine off SD. Then I did nand-sata-install and you can see below what happened. This used to work fine with older versions. sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 2 MB in 5.54 seconds = 369.48 kB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 2 MB in 10.33 seconds = 198.19 kB/sec

Greetings, I am trying to install zoneminder into the most recent, updated and upgraded Buster Armbian image on an Odroid XU4, but libmp4v2-2 is required, and doesn't exist in any repository that I can find. Where may I find an Armbian-Buster-compatible libmp4v2-2, please?

Hey guys! I am running Armbian 22.05.3 on my Odroid XU4. Very happy with it. I just installed linux-image-edge-odroidxu4 (kernel 5.17) and rebooted. Everything hunky dory. However, once I'm on 5.17 I am unable to reboot by using the 'reboot' or 'shutdown -r now' commands, which worked on the default 5.4 kernel. Is this a known issue? Any hints on how to debug or any known workarounds? Thank you

Let me ask a question in a armbian-forum where I found up til now no solution. After updating nextcloud to 20.0.5 (now I use 20.0.7) I get the following warning in OMV5 Settings->Overview: Asking thas question in the OMV-forum I received the following answer from the user "Morlan": A missing MariaDB docker version 10.2ff could be a show-stopper if nextcloud v21 will be available for Helios4.

Today, I set up SSH public key authentication on my RPI5B running Armbian-unofficial 24.8.0-trunk Bookworm. During the test, I noticed that the initial SSH session message displayed the CPU temperature and other details. Unfortunately, the vcgencmd utility provided by the Raspberry Pi Foundation doesn't work on Armbian. I'm looking to understand how the temperature, CPU clock, and GPU clock are measured, and if possible, I'd like to receive some code to do so.

Hello, I am trying to install Armbian UEFI-x86 into this very small mini PC, but with secure boot enabled it only shows this screen: Disabling the secure boot isn't an option, because every time I turn it off and then turn it on the next morning, the BIOS settings are being reset, then the secure boot is enabled once again (I believe it is intentional, because the CMOS battery only keeps the clock & date). Moreover, I want to use it as a headless computer, so no keyboard will be attached. Is this fixable or Armbian isn't compatible with secure boot? Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone. Just after a bit of advice before I take the plunge and boot up armbian on my Mi10 Pro. I'm using it currently as a modem, it's tethered to my Deco setup so its only used as a modem. Obviously the stock HyperOS isn't that great at having anything that is remotely useful for this purposes. So I'm hoping that Armbian could be the answer I'm looking for. If someone could assist/answer the following; Is there by modem/router type software that I can use on Armbian? Does the 5g modem get recognised by Armbian? Does the USB C slot get recognised so any usb hub that I plug in will work? Will ethernet teth…

Hi all, I've pre-ordered my helios4 and was so excited to finally receive my new NAS after a few months of waiting. I love this project and want to see this project to grow and maybe inspire others to create similar projects as this one. That said, I was really disappointed when I finally started my board and realized that the UART to micro usb was broken when I plugged it in my computer. No USB device is at all recognized(on linux nor on my mac). At first, to eliminate any potential problems, I tried at least 6 different micro usb to usb cables thinking that a cable could be broken... it happens some time. With all 6 cables tried, never did I get …

Hi everyone, I hope this topic is in the right place and won't bother anyone. I'm pretty new to the ARM world. In very first i would like to thanks all people and the communities who work hard on Armbian. I successfully use a NanoPC T6 Plus / A NanoPi M6 and other forks on some TV Box with no major problems. My curiosity pushed me to try using Armbian on a MinisForum MS-R1, so i bought one and tried to boot up the KDE or Gnome image on it. In the two case, the installation is a fail at the step of launching the desktop environment, it's stuck here. The uefi is up to date with the lastest version (cix_flash_all2_MGP1WSB_20…

Hello the Helios4 community, This is quite the story and I may have messed up at multiple steps, especially since I did not backup my RAID data (please don't go too hard on me for this, it's difficult task for me since I don't have enough space on any of my computer to do so), but I hope that at least you can help me to salvage some data. Short story: I flashed my sd cart to upgrade to the last armbian available (I was on armbian 9) After some hurdle I finally could had a stable boot and installed OpenMediaVault When looking for my RAID 10 data I found that they were gone, replaced by what looks like a linux system, here's its current content…

So I recently loaded the x86 Armbian 6.12 - Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) server image onto a GEEKOM Air12 Lite N150 (wow that was a mouthful), only to find the ethernet port missing... turns out the Motorcomm YT6801 Ethernet Controller it uses is not in the mainline distro and has to be built manually. Hello, i prepared a microsd card with the Armbian_5.90_Odroidxu4_Debian_buster_next_4.14.127 image and started my ODROID XU4. The failure of starting the Network Manager something unusual for ARMBIAN. Enclosed you'll find a error messages. I appreciate very much your help and supporting comments! regards, Ireng

I've just installed the default desktop image, flashed directly to my emmc using etcher. Everything seems to work ok, as far as I can tell. Using the date command, it has my local time as correct, but the clock in the taskbar or whatever its called at the top of the screen is about 6 hours ahead (gmt). How do I correct this? Also, how do I verify that video acceleration is functioning or not? How do I adjust the cpu freq gov and what is the default? After switching from Debian Buster (installed via Petitboot) to Armbian, I have problems with NFS on Openmediavault that didn't exist the weeks before. My NFS streams abort after a few minutes, sometimes seconds (on Libreelec as well as Kodi for Windows). In OMV it shows me that the service is enabled and running, but systemctl says: nfs-server.service loaded active exited. With exportfs -rav it runs again, only to stop after a few minutes. It also works without command if I wait a few minutes. I also did a fresh install of Armbian, wich did nothing.

DUring a fresh install of Debian buster recently, I went through the armbian-config setup, which finished with "install a whole lot of package updates, and update the boodloader." Since I've rebooted from that, the board no longer boots. It's been a while, so I have unfortunately forgotten the details of what actually happened. I didn't expect that set of updates to change anything in the firmware, only the OS and u-boot on the MMC-card. The board powers on, attempts to boot from the MMC and then bails. This is the error log: (slightly trimmed) I've tried several different MMC cards. I've tried booting from SPI, SATA and UART…

Hi! I've been using Armbian on my Odroid XU4 for some months now. It runs LogitechMediaServer, Home-assistant, Openmediavault,... It's great. However, today, I've just ran apt-get upgrade, reboot because of an update of the kernel and then... no reboot! The blue LED of the Odroid is lit (it doesn't blink), there is nothing on the HDMI output, nothing on the network,... It seems like the odroid cannot load the kernel. Is there anything I could do to try to make it boot again ? Yeah, I know, I should have done a backup of the SD card before the update ... Thanks for your help!

Hi! recently bought a HC2 from hardkernel to migrate my nextcloud from a raspberry pi 3b. HDD is a WD red 4 TB. armbian stretch with the 4.19 kernel, downloaded from armbian.com (Armbian_5.69_Odroidxu4_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.14). My problem: after boot (sudo reboot now or sudo shutdown -r), no possibility to login, i.e. angryip scanner doesn't show the hc2, putty times out when trying to connect. Hello! I have an RPi5 8GB board that I bought off of AliExpress, along with a Waveshare PoE M.2 HAT+ ( https://www.waveshare.com/poe-m.2-hat-plus-b.htm ) Initially I tried to use the Noble XFCE image, by following the recommended installation procedure via rpi-imager via a USB drive, hoping to install the system to a Toshiba (Kioxia) NVMe drive. The RPI5 was connected to a CrowView Note. What I saw was that the firmware loaded up the necessary files from the USB drive (then later the micro-SD card), and the initramfs loaded up too, then systemd started up, and probably when the screen usually goes blank for a short time (probably switchin…

The board was up and running when suddenly I could not access the share anymore. I went near it and I was hearing some HDD clicking. I rebooted it from the console and when it came on, no storage was available. I could see some /dev/sd* but one HDD was missing from it and the lvm was not available anymore. Also all the HDDs where clicking and I was hearing a loud buzzing sound from the board. I rebooted it again, measured the PSU and even load tested it and it is fine, the same for the moled connectors, it was measuring 12V and 5V, but the truth was, the HDDs this time were not even detected. I am a noob on Linux (unfortunately). I run a Xu4 with armbian on it. On the Xu4 i run Domoticz, my home automation system. Something is eating my hdd space; a fixed amount is used up every hour. I set up a new system with a bigger sd but I want to get to the bottom of the issue. I do not know how I can see what the Xu4 does every hour. Perhaps a log or a backup? Perhaps my OS is doing something, or perhaps my Home automation. I do not run any script to make periodic backups or anything else like that. How can I figure it out? Thanks!

First I have to thank all maintainers for their work. I ran this server for 1.5 years before something broke. Since armbian is maintained by volunteers I want to cheer you up and thank you for your hard work. However just today my little server would die after apt-update/upgrade. I can observe the following behavior: The system leds indicate that booting is sucessful (blue LED does blink regularly, I can detect HDD usage by observing the green LED), yet SSH login that I have been using for years now is impossible. The device is also not responsive when pinging it. From my rout…

Hi, I'm running into a problem I can't solve. On my new Odroid HC1 I'm trying to set up a SFTP with chroot, but no matter what I'm trying it doesn't work on Armbian (or OMV). Tried it multiple times with a clean Armbian (Armbian_5.59_Odroidxu4_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.66 - also tried the Bionic image) install, simply added a user, added the required lines to sshd_config but each time I get a "Broken Pipe" error. Has anybody been able to create a chroot for SFTP on a Odroid HC1/2? Could it be…

Hello, I suffered a power outage and my odroid hc1 won't boot since. I also updated the kernel to 4.14.141 but the system did come back up after reboot to that kernel, it is just the power outage which seems to have caused problems. I have tried connecting the sd card and the to the laptop and ran fsck on them, no issues were found. Is there a way to debug the booting issues by say, forcing some sort of log to be writen to sd card? LED wise, red (power) LED is on, whereas green (SATA) and blue (system) seem to turn on and off repeatedly; green first, blue second, and then they both turn off at the same time. Thanks!

Hello all! I used the following armbian image to write to an SD (I'm using an old odroid HC1 btw): https://armbian.site-meganet.com/dl/odroidxu4/archive/ I used the bullseye_current image that was there. Only way I can "get into" the device is with a USB ethernet adapter although even just issuing a command, eg ifconfig enx001e06366b84 192.168.1.99 locks everything up - even the USB e…

Hi, I am using Nextcloudpi Image (Armbian) on an HC1. This setup is obviously not booting anymore after system upgrade. Packages that have been upgraded: - armbian-config - armbian-firmware - linux-buster-root-legacy-odroidxu4 - linux-dtb-legacy-odroidxu4 - linux-image-legacy-odroidxu4 - linux-u-boot-odroidxu4-legacy Insterting the µSD into an Laptop running PureOS (Debian fork) I can access log files. I could investigate so far, that there was a system upgrade (armbian-firmware_21.05.1) on 2021-05-11 6:00 am. After that a message that system will be rebooted on 2021-05-12 4:00 am. Updated several HC1 to Buster. Reapplied the optimized board config, as done under stretch before. Main issue: No matter what CPU governor I set, max. frequency jumps around automagically between 1.8 GHz and 2.0 GHz. I can set performance governor to the range from 1.9 to 2.0 GHz, armbian-config confirms, and when I back out of the menu it says "soc runs between 1800 and 1800 MHz using performance governor". Even at > 90% CPU boards stay below 2.0 GHz. Minor glitches only for boards, I already upgraded from jessie to stretch: - boot.ini misses the hc1.dtb check - must manually edit - systemd misses armbian* entries, as well as the uti…

Hi armbian staff and users, i must/try to connect through uart (HC1 /Dev/ttySAC2) to an external uart device. 1. I had to roll back and use apt hold on the 2 corresponding packages to remain on the "good" LTS kernel 5.4.253 that supports fstrim on extremely popular Crucial SSDs that support it. It's impossible to get the maintainer Joe to reply. Is there a triage way to have someone contact him and make him aware of this issue? I have zero complaints about his work, but SATA TRIM commands are a must have on SBCs that have drive bays. It dramatically increases lifetime of NAND based storage devices. Please tell me what to do. I found filing a simple bug report would be counter productive as I want to investigate why later Kernels are either compiled without …

This is something I've just realized has been popping up for me for as long as I've been using armbian the past year or so with my ODROID. After a clean setup, I use armbian-config to edit the network settings (ethernet connection) to a static IP address, and everything works fine. I reboot the changes and go on my way. The problem comes after I reboot days/weeks later for kernel updates or if I lost power. The board turns on fine but refuses to show up on my network and therefore cannot SSH to the system. Looking through the SD card and checking the files shows that /etc/network/interfaces is devoid of any static IP changes made through the config, although i…

Hi all! I am running a nextcloud server on an odroid HC2 and a 4 TB WD red HDD. So far, so good (thanks again @Igor for the quick help with the kernel downgrade!). And since I have bought the sbc recently, I do not seem to have the older firmware version with the HDD "emergency power down" bug, i.e. I haven't heard clacking sound from the HC2. Today, I set HDD spindown to 1 hour via hdparm (wd red does not support apm) because the HDD would spin down after about three minutes on its own. The HDD does not seem to apply these settings, so I installed smartmontools to check the HDD in general. Only to find that: smartctl -a /dev/sdb1 gives this…

Hi, I want to try out my Odroid HC2 as an openvpn client. I don't expect great performance but I want to make sure I set it up correctly. This is why I want to ask if anyone can give any recommendations or tweaks for using it as an openvpn client. Idk much about openvpn, I know it uses openssl for de and encryption. Is there a way to use hardware de and encryption so I can speed things up and have a better download speed via openvpn? Or is hw de/encryption maybe already used by default if I just install openvpn package? Any recommendations on how to correctly set this up are appreciated.

Hi, I was unable to boot the latest flavor of armbian for odroid xu4 (Armbian_22.08.7_Odroidxu4_bullseye_current_5.4.218_minimal.img). My Odroid HC2 card shuts down quickly and no ssh connection is possible. The card stays on if the network cable is physically disconnected but stops immediately when reconnected. I can't pinpoint the cause of the freeze exactly, but it shows as follows in syslog: At midnight, logrotate was started but never successfully concluded. At the time, I was also recording a stream via smb to the hdd. (Not a very demanding activity) When I tried to access the SBC via network share or ssh this morning, neither would show as available. The SBC was running but "dead". When I rebooted it by re-plugging power, instead of showing ~9:00 o'clock, the SBCs internal clock showed 02:17. Here are the last messages of the syslog before the SBC locked up: I should note that the SBC has been running 24/7 stable for weeks. …

Hi all, My Hard Drive in my HC2 is not found or not readable. Before I was on Armbian Buster with Kernel 4.14 and everything was working fine. I switched and am now running Armbian Focal 21.05.2 with Kernel 5.4.116 . HDD is btrfs formatted. /proc/filesystems lists btrfs so this is not the problem. /dev/sda exists, but sda will not be listed when I lsblk. Dmesg shows a Read Capacity(16) failed. Not posting the whole dmesg log b/c armbianmonitor is attached. Grateful for any help or hints =)

Hi, hope you're all doing well. I have this Odroid HC2 (XU4 without video output) that was running an old Armbian version. I intended to update to the latest one (o something close to it) but it seems it won't boot with the newer releases. The board seems to power up ok, leds apparently blinking in a normal fashion, but it seems it gets stuck somewhere. It doesn't acquire any IP address. Not having video output leaves me with little to no way of knowing what is failing. No logs seem to be created in the sdcard. I also tried DietPi images, which I believe are based on Armbian but the same thing happens. I does, howe…

Hi! my nextcloud instance on an odroid hc2 running armbian has been running stable and smoothly for several months now. Thanks Igor and the whole armbian team! Hello, my Odroid HC2 was working flawlessly for years but since 1-2 weeks it keeps crashing/freezing and I don't know why. If I cut power and repower it, it works fine for a while but then trying to reach it via ssh, or accessing the harddrive via smb share, or opening a webinterface fails. I checked the microsd card with armbianmonitor -c "$HOME" and it showed it's fine. I can only provide the logs: https://paste.armbian.com/cibowaquyi and hope someone can check them and reply 🙏. I don't know what to look for in the logs that could be wrong... One last thing I noticed, after I ssh to it amongst other things I'm greeted with this: RX today: Erro…

I know it is unsupported and all, but I just want to point out that running Ubuntu Focal(2020/05/03) with kernel 5.6 on Odroid MC1 has been destroying microSD cards. The board boots up fine, but after an apt-get update and a few minutes in, the Sandisk microSD card died and becomes read-only. I'm not sure if it is vendor-dependent, but I have tried out two new Sandisk microSD cards and they all turned read-only. This might be a kernel issue since on Debian Buster with kernel 5.4 or kernel 4.14 that never happened.

Hi all, The grey wifi Dongle 5 I bought direct from Odroid seems to have stopped working with recent Debian releases. hey there, I'm using an odroid xu4 with the cloudshell 2 with 2 drives in RAID1 and Armbian with Debian 9 Stretch as my OS, built via Vagrant 2 weeks ago. The /boot partition sits on a sd-card, the OS on the harddrive. I''ve copied both via dd on both devices(boot an card, rootfs on harddrive), and after the first boot it worked flawlessly, because the boot information uses the UUID, not the /dev path. After the first boot and configuration of another user and so on, I rebooted the system to let it resize the rootfs to extend it to 2TB, which is the size of the harddrive. But after this, it seems that cryptroot cannot decrypt the …

Dear all, thanks for the work of you, to provide us with the Armbian Images for our arm-based boards. BUt i've a small issue, starting the last Image for Odroid XU4. If I write the Image to a SD-Card and start the XU4, all Things run well. When I write the Image to my eMMC-Card (original Hardkernel, 64GB), the XU4 doesn't start. Normally, it's not such a big Problem, but there is a massive speedup, using eMMC with XU4. How can I get Armbian startet, installed on an eMMC? Many thanks for your Support, Burkhard

Odroid XU4 with Cloudshell2 Coming from 4.14.69, upgraded to 4.19.14 The fbtft_device module for the Cloudshell-LCD now reports: fbtft_device: display not supported: 'hktft9340' And yes, the source for fbtft_device seems to no longer contain hktft9340. I will ask in the Hardkernel Forum - this is just for info here. Question: When I use armbian-config to switch to an earlier package, I get a nice list, I select one and say ok, but after reboot nothing has changed. Is there something I could be missing in order to make this switch work? Never tried it before - I was hoping this would help me temporarily.

There is nothing displayed when I plug the HDMI to my TV. I must have missed something... Regards!

Hi Guys, I tested both the odroid official and armbian images for the XU4. Both run well, but I prefer the armbian image. I have attached my 800x480 hdmi display, it works, but there's a purple line at the left side of the display. ( I think it's one pixel wide) This is not the case with the odroid official image, so I guess it's a configuration issue. I took a look at the boot. ini file, but I don't see anything that rings a bell. Can somebody point me to the right direction?

Hi, I've just ordered a Xu4 to use it as a desktop and I have never used armbian before. Is webgl is running fine in chromium browser? I want to run Construct 3 on it. Thanks in advance!

Dear Readers I had quite some troubles migrating my armbian system from an SD-Card (16GB) to my emmc (32GB). I'd like to sum up my journey for future travelers ;-) I was not successful simply copying the image of the sd to the emmc and resizing the partition. It would not boot. Apparently emmc has additional boot partitions which must be set correctly. I "repaired" the emmc with this https://wiki.odroid.com/accessory/emmc/recovery_xu4 and it booted Android all right from emmc. I then rebooted on my SD-Card and used the nand-sata-install command to "Boot from eMMC - system on eMMC". It took some time to copy, but when booting on the emmc, still Android…

I'm trying to get my Logitech Quickcam working and tested using Armbian Xenial Mainline 4.9.13. It's worked out of the box on just about every other distro tried in recent years...not sure on Armbian. Here is the output from lsusb: Bus 003 Device 007: ID 046d:08d8 Logitech, Inc. Quickcam for Notebook Deluxe Bus 003 Device 006: ID 0c45:7000 Microdia Honestly, the webcam may work fine now, but I'm having issues installing a package to test it, such as Cheese or guvcview. Can someone assist me with checking it out? Once I get the webcam working, I'd like to use it with Google Hangouts or Skype (via exagear). Thanks!

Hi, I received 2 same boards recently. One is working great, second has suffered from unexpected shutdowns. Rpimonitor has not recorded this high temperatures yet, maximum temperature recorded is not more than 90C. SoC has been utilized on 100% with ffmpeg video conversion and other tasks. I run these board on Jessie or Bionic system and have tested mainline stable and beta kernel. These board have got passive heatsink however I put 80x80 quiet slower fan on the top of heatsink, thermal compound is replaced for silver one without making problem solved. Spoiler cat /var/log/syslog | grep critical May 27 23:32:30 localhost kernel: [ 10.1…

Hi, I installed Armbian_5.00_Odroidxu4_Debian_jessie_3.10.96_desktop.raw on my ODroid, plugged a 2TB external drive into the USB 3 port, and ran nand-sata-install. I chose /dev/sda1 as the root. After completing, and rebooting, it appears it installed an operating system on /dev/sda1, but I'm still using the SD card as the root: root@odroidxu4:~# mount /dev/mmcblk0p2 on / type ext4 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,errors=remount-ro,commit=600) .... I tried changing boot.ini to point to /dev/sda1: setenv bootrootfs "console=tty1 loglevel=1 root=/dev/sda1 rootwait ro fsck.repair=yes" but it would not boot with this setting. Is there any more information I can p…

As previously posted, I have been looking to buy another board. My research continues. But today I came across this, and wanted to ask if this was something I should jump on, or do they always sell for this price? ODROID-XU4 at Hardkernel shop shows a price of $59.00, which is crossed out and now $49.00 is shown instead. I added an 8GB EMMC module, and then went to my cart to check shipping, which was $28.00 to Eastern US! I have emailed them asking if there is any cheaper shipping option, as that is almost 50% of the price! I will report back their reply if/when I receive it.
