Hello! Does anyone, and by anyone I probably really mean @balbes150 :D, know what I need to do when building official Mesa for it to be recognized in the experimental 6.x kernel environment? There's a panfrost focused dev/staging branch that the panfrost devs are using that I would love to try and be able to build for OPi5 but when I do it I always just get llvm. balbes, you are managing to get the GPU recognized would you be able to share how that's done in the building? I'm not asking for you to provide a build I would just love to know how you do it so I can as well and test the new versions as they happen. This is the branch and commits…

With the prior image and kernel 5.10.110 I was able to run compile.sh and produce the linux-source-legacy-rockchip-rk3588_23.02.0-trunk_all.deb which provided the kernel source in /usr/src/linux-source-5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588.tar.xz. I downloaded the latest img which provides kernel 5.10.160 which booted fine. However, running the same compile.sh process I used previously with success produced the older deb package that contains the 5.10.110 kernel source. There were a couple of errors displayed. My compile.sh command is: ./compile.sh BOARD=orangepi5 BRANCH=legacy BUILD_ONLY=kernel RELEASE=jammy KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no The first error encountered was …

I did a bit of reading - to prevent ubuntu packages to update the rockchip optimized packages, you need to pin the packages. There is a simple way to do that. 1. Create a file called rockchip-multimedia-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-rockchip-multimedia Pin-Priority: 600 2. Create a file called panfork-mesa-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-liujianfeng1994-panfork-mesa Pin-Priority: 600 You can verify that the apt configuration is working correctly with sudo apt policy chromium-browser which should return chrom…

I am using Wifi/BT USB dongle to connect network for Orange Pi 5. But it does not work with Armbian. It works smoothly with Orange Pi's Ubuntu and Debian distros. Hello, I have installed the minimal Trixie based image for Orange Pi5 (the image named Armbian_26.2.1_Orangepi5_trixie_current_6.18.8_minimal) and then attempted to build an out-of-tree kernel module. Having installed dkms and build-essentials, plus the kernel headers through armbian-config, I found the headers package hasn't been fully set-up, the build symlink in /lib/modules/<KVER> is missing and dkms complains that the kernel headers for the kernel are not installed. The kernel headers are installed though, but it looks like they're from a previous release (25.11.2 instead of 26.2.1). # dpkg -l | grep rockchip ii linux-dtb-cur…

Is anyone using the current Kodi Flatpak, Omega? I'm having issues viewing videos that have pixel format of yuv420p10le with the current apt repository Kodi Nexus. I thought to try Kodi Flatpak and it worked and I was able to view those yuv420p10le videos without issue. However, it was choppy and had high CPU usage...around 80% on many of the CPUs. I'm trying to figure that out. It's happening on all types of videos. All is played using software decoding. I've never gotten hardware decoding working. In the Kodi Nexus version I'm using it also software decoding but very low CPU usage. In any case, just want to see what experiences …

Hello ! I've bought a Orange Pi 5 PRO board about 2 months ago . I've tryed all images (Linux and Android) from the official Orange Pi site . Later I tryed Armbian . In the end I've concluded that the best choice is Armbian 24.5.2 Noble Gnome ( Armbian_24.5.2_Orangepi5pro_noble_vendor_6.1.43_gnome-oibaf_desktop.img ). Using Armbian 24.5.2 Noble Gnome I got the best (the smoothest) video playback, both in video players and online (youtube) content . And it' s very responsive in operation, generally . I have one single issue : My MCE remote is not detected properly - the Play, Pause, Next, Previous, Forward, Rewind buttons did't perform any actions when …

Was using my Orange Pi 5 and it rebooted on it's own. After that, it continually reboots. Been running fine for months. Tried restarting a few times. Tried swapping SD cards. It looks like the power supply is OK, although I'll try swapping with another. I had just backed up the SD Card too. I'll try re-imaging an SD card, but I'm thinking the SD card may not be the issue. I hooked up my UART and captured output. At the end of each loop, it looks like it's saying "Starting Kernel" and then restarting. Captured output follows. Any ideas, suggestions or comments on what's happening. I'm thinking it's probably a hardware issue. I …

I could not find any arm64/aarch64 MODERN, up to date, Tor browser binaries. Anything below current-stable would be considered insecure, and at a glance I couldn't find them anywhere. So I was able to compile Nightly for the latest updates as well It took 331 minutes, and failed 4 times along the way with 8GB RAM native on the device and 4GB ZFS to start. It did a SIGKILL9 on firefox-glean. Increased to 8gb, still failed until I increased ZFS to 16gb, and then even at a whopping 16gb it crashed next on GkRust for OOM/SIGKILL9 as well until increased ZFS to 32GB! 331 minutes later, it was succesful Just wondering, to save myself from future pun…

I thought it would be easy, but I am now turning in circles, so I am asking here. I have a working system booting on NVME (when no SD card inserted), with two partitions nvme0p1 (256Mb) and nvmeop2 (40Gb) I would like to clone my working system on a SD card. How shall I proceed? I am not asking details instruction, only the rough path I should follow (e.g. dd partitions, tune2fs ......). PS: I thought it would be easy, but whatever I do, the system keep taking /boot on the nvmeop1, so I really struggle to boot on the /boot of the SD card

I have installed the recently released `Desktop images with Armbian Linux v6.10` image (24.8.1, Debian Bookworm, with the Cinnamon desktop) on an OrangePi5 and I'm happy the HDMI support included has finaly enabled the video to my 1080p display. However, my previously supported WiFi adapter is not recognized in this version - it worked with the vendor (5.10) kernel which I used with last year's OrangePi5 image, but how it seems the driver is not installed with 6.10. The WiFi adapter is connected via USB and it's listed as Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8812AU 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2T2R DB WLAN Adapter. Now, there are a few DKMS/out-of-tree drivers that I could inst…

Hello, I am running Armbian 23.05 "minimal" (with the provided kernel 5.10.110) on my OrangePI 5 4GB. Upgraded all packets to latest. When trying to run GeekBench 5.5.1 ARM Preview, it reboots when approaching the end of multicore tests, with "performance" governor and default speed range (0.4 - 2.4 GHz for A76). Same goes if I drop the max clock speed to 2.2 for A76. After dropping to 2.0 GHz max, it runs fine; but this hurts performances quite a bit. I tried various power sources, including a bench PSU which can reliably supply up to 30A (but I only see a few spikes over 2A). The board has a large heatsink installed wit…

Hi, The release notes for Armbian 23.11 state, under Key Improvements in This Release, "Mainline Kernel for RK3588 with experimental HDMI support." I am currently running the default 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx kernel If I wanted to switch to and try out the mainline kernel for RK3588 with experimental HDMI support, would I do something like this: sudo apt install linux-image-collabora-rockchip-rk3588 After testing, If I want to rollback to the default legacy kernel, what are the steps involved? Apologies if there are instructions elsewhere that cover this. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi all, this is my first post here on the forum. I'm getting ready to wrap up for the night, but I recently purchased an Orange Pi 5 (non-B) to do some tinkering with. I downloaded the Bookworm XFCE variant as I am somewhat familiar with XFCE already. Anyway, upon initial testing, I thought my power supply wasn't good enough for the board. I wasn't getting any HDMI output. When I removed the micro-SD card and tried to boot it that way, an orange pi splash screen would show on the attached display, so I think the port actually works (?) I have a spare USB to TTL Serial adapter so I was able to verify the board was successfull…

Hello, i'm using Armbian 23.11 Jammy-amazingfated Gnome. Kernel 5.10 If to seek a couple of times in h264 1080p BD remux'es it will cause system restart. Any video players are affected. Tried mpv, vlc, kodi and others. Problem affect just h264 1080p remuxes, that typically are 30..40 Gb, smaller h264 or even larger h265 files seem to work fine. I tried fresh install of armbian, where no rkmpp is installed, then h264 files plays/seeks fine, in software mode of course. I am waiting on my opi5 but was already investigating how to run Roblox (an x86 32 bit Windows game) on it. Hi, SD card did not load Armbian_25.8.1_Orangepi5_trixie_current_6.12.41_xfce_desktop. I noticed that in boot.cmd line 9 , rootdev is defined as /dev/mmcblk0p1. Should that be /dev/mmcblk0n1 or /dev/mmcblk0n1p1? I note that this file should not be edited and the armbianEnv.txt only refers to rootdev=UUID=7e27c862-0a39-41cd-891e-7d77ff7968fd. Is this an error or am I off course? If so where do I correct it? cheers

Hello OPI5 users. Running Joshua Riek's Ubuntu distro, I keep getting stability issues. Perhaps because I keep using Xorg. Perhaps because hardware acceleration is buggy. In the past I used super stable Armbian OPI5 distro's without hardware acceleration. Infact I still use Armbian on another RK3588 box, I don't think it has EVER crashed, running docker, Mosquito, HomeAssistant, and a buch of other things. Now that my Orange Pi 5 gets a slightly more serious use as webserver, I really like to get rid of the unpredictable Xorg crashes, and gladly would sacrifice HW acceleration for stability. My situation is this: Using JR Ubuntu Because I …

with clean install of armbian plus those 4 lines to install hardware acceleration glmark2-es2 gives score of about 800-900, about less then 25% of performance opi5 is capable. is it possible to raise that a bit, not all the way but just a bit more without instaling gnome or wayland, just to keep armbian as clean as its possible. as it is, its stable but barely(they do run) able to run 4k youtube oe 4k mkv, as soon as there is gnome and wayland it starts to crash, joshua rieks version, monka, armbian with all the drivers, any i tried it would crash eventualy.

Not really a big deal, just somewhat annoying, because previous versions runs fine. Anybody else experiencing the same problem? "armbianmonitor -U" output is attached. armbianu.txt

Hello I'm running the NAS on Orange PI 5. I've run Armbian with EDK2 from https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/5900. The system starts from SSD disk connected via PCIE card with 4 SATA ports. I wanted to run simple fan control via GPIO, but setting the value 1 or 0 on GPIO has no effect and the multimeter connected to GPIO always shows 2.85V. How I did it. I installed wiringOP as the manual says. I selected GPIO 0 and entered the commands gpio mode 0 out gpio write 0 0 I connected a multimeter to GPIO 0 but it always shows 2.85V when I did gpio write 0 1 the multimeter also shows 2.85V gpio readall shows 1 in column V when "gpio write 0 1" com…

Dear All, I have a USB wifi device that has always been working fine at boot with linux 5.1, now I upgraded to 6.1 gnome/vendor and I got a strange behavior on my OPI 5: - If I have wifi device plugged and power on the PI5, the USB device is not seen (no trace of it with lsusb). - If I have wifi device plugged and power on the PI5, the USB device is not seen (no trace of it with lsusb). But, with the PI 5 still running, If I unplug it and re-plug it, it is recognized and works fine. Also after that, if I issue a sudo reboot, the wifi device will be seen and work properly. I'm trying to use an SPI driven TFT display on the orange pi 5, but I'm stuck on enabling SPI in the first place. Looking at the pinout of the orange pi 5 in its manual, it appears that SPI4...M0 is the only bus broken out to the pins. However, enabling "rk3588-spi4-m0-cs1-spidev" in the armbian-config menu does not seem to do anything, as no /dev/spi device exists after a reboot. Enabling any of the other spi hardware functions seems to work just fine, creating a /dev/spi device as expected, but none of the other spi busses are accessible through the pin header. I'm on Armbian 23.8.1 (image: Armbian_23.8.1_Orangepi5_bookworm_legacy_5.10.160.img). Has anyone used SPI on t…

A few days ago I had an issue with a successfully running Armbian installation running from the NVME of my Orange Pi 5 that suddenly developed an issue with nothing being shown on my TV. So after seemingly not being to identify the problem, I started again, wrote the image to an SD card and then moved the installation to the NVME drive using armbian-config utility. So now that I have a set-up that works again, I want to instigate a more belt and braces approach and create an image of the NVME installation using GZIP to compress the image file and decided to use the DD option from terminal. Having tried well over a hundred different comb…

Standard install - Armbian Bookworm, full 'firmware install'. I am getting some packet loss over the LAN. A raspberry pi, Synology NAS and Deban x86 install on the same LAN do not seem to exhibit the same loss. Anyone have experience or ideas? Oddly enough this never seems to occur on fresh installs. This is a docker host for pihole and home assistance, no other packages are really installed at all. I've not really tried much, but since this is a standard install, apt-get update & upgrade are about the only modifications outside of docker install that has occurred. 1. This plugs directly in to a Ubiquiti switch 2. I have tried a few differ…

Have an incident where I tried installing a newer kernel in an nvme working setup and the device wont post. My original installation flash card is working but is giving me problems. So I got 2 others and attempted to boot new version of the image and Im getting no post. I was able to solve my original problem by installing a legacy version in flash and copying /boot over to nvme. I also attempted rebuilding the mme partitions with no success. But it seems that there is something not working right with kernel 6.7.

This guide is specifically for the official orange pi 5 PCIe WiFi 6.0 Module that can be found here although it has been in and out of stock https://a.co/d/bhjoolW It uses the ap6275p chip. The guide will be split into 2 sections depending on what OS you want to use Orange Pi OS 1. install the wifi module into the m.2 slot and boot sd card with either the latest orange pi os ubuntu or debian http://www.orangepi.org/html/hardWare/computerAndMicrocontrollers/service-and-support/Orange-pi-5.html 2. edit the boot file to enable wifi by adding overlays=wifi-ap6275p to the end. I have edge kernel installed and working. I compiled the v4l2 ffmpeg but some of my av1 videos are not working. Hello everyone, I use my Orange Pi 5 board to run Open Media Vault with Wireguard installed. But there is a known issue with Wireguard that, when installing it, you have to manually reinstall the correct kernel into the board again, otherwise it won't be able to boot. However, ever since it has been installed, during apt update / apt ugrade of my board, it keeps recognizing the wrong kernel to be updated and changing the symlinks inside the /boot/ folder, rendering the board unbootable. If I see this happening, I can change the symlinks and it works normally after that. However, sometimes the symlinks changes unnoticed and I cannot boot anymore. I…

I'm curious to try vlc but haven't been able to install that one yet with the new releases.

Hi, after upgrading to Armbian 24.11.3 noble with 6.1 Kernel I have this problem that every time I turn off my TV that is connected to OPI with HDMI, then turning it back on again it will never have a HDMI signal. Same thing happens when I unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in. I can reproduce it every single time - not just occasionally. It is not a hardware or cable problem, the exact same setup has worked flawlessly for long time with older Armbian and 5.1 kernel. I tried disabling all of the KDE power saving settings, also totally disabled kpowerdevil - with no change. SSH still works fine, the OS has not crashed. …

Hello! Iv'e just done a test run installing Armbian for booting off my new m.2 nvme drive. As 'm planning to have the drives 2nd large partition as my basic home file server I'm wondering if I can as easily re-install the OS if/when I need to update it to a newer one? Because the instructions I followed and that I see around do a very basic cat /dev/mmcblk1 > /dev/nvme0n1 onto the raw un-partitioned nvme. My case will be that I have data on a partition on that drive that needs to stay. Is this going to be an issue or are there ways to re-install Armbian or even other distro on the boot partition? Cheers!

I found this amazing page https://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi-Cedrus#VLC that explains alot on VLC and hardware accelleration but I cannot clearly figure out if my playback is using hardware acceleration. I did follow all the steps to optimize chromium with the ppu sources - chromium doesn't work well yet for me - so not sure if that install worked as expected. My playback of h264 in VLC is super smooth but I have around 20-35% cpu usage (1080p videos) - I know h264 is more demanding than AV1 but someone reported AV1 with 15% CPU usage and 4k. Is there anything I can do to make sure the hardware acceleration is working (aka the VA-API is used)?

Yeah so just like the title says, has anyone got a tip for a USB Bluetooth dongle that works with the mainline kernel? I got a UGREEN Bluetooth 5.0 dongle a while ago and have just tried again, installing firmware for it. It does get detected as a USB device and the firmware loads. But bluetoothctl never finds it. Gnome doesn't let me 'enable' bluetooth. I'd like to avoid buying a string of these so was just wondering if any are working with mainline? Cheers!

Hello! I'm trying to look around in the Armbian build/config scripts to see how I can enable a mainline v6.15-rc3 kernel to be built.
