Hello, i'm using Armbian 23.11 Jammy-amazingfated Gnome. Kernel 5.10 If to seek a couple of times in h264 1080p BD remux'es it will cause system restart. Any video players are affected. Tried mpv, vlc, kodi and others. Problem affect just h264 1080p remuxes, that typically are 30..40 Gb, smaller h264 or even larger h265 files seem to work fine. I tried fresh install of armbian, where no rkmpp is installed, then h264 files plays/seeks fine, in software mode of course. Once I did sudo update/upgrade, that also installs rkmpp and other rockchip stuff, then videos start to play with rkmpp and problem is back. I've tried disabling hw deco…

I have 2 5C Lite boards a 2Gb and 4Gb version, neither have HDMI output with any stock images either from armbian or radxa. Thru desperation I found an Android image that booted and had screen output, so the HDMI works atleast. After stuffing around I found that the u-boot image extracted from the Rock-5D t2(rsdk) and injected into Rock-5C b1(rsdk) Bookworm_kde image boots and has working screen. Longer story short, getting Armbian 24.11 to work... Narrowed it down from replacing the entire u-boot.itb, I can get a working desktop with kernel version 5.10 Bookworm by removing the rng@fe378000 trngvl section (enabled mali400/bifrost driver in ke…

Hi I am looking for a low power, fanless, solution for a Debian server with a single large 3.5" SATA drive. I don't want to boot from the SATA so I guess I'd buy an eMMC module as well. Currently I have an Orange Pi4 LTS with a weird expansion board and a generic Mini PCIe to SATA, but it isn't stable enough. Given that the Rock 5C has platinum support and works with the Penta SATA hat I'm wondering if it might be more reliable? thanks

Hello all, I have noticed that whenever I reboot my Orange Pi 5 board, all the 8 cpus slow down to 408 Mhz with no range, as stated by cpufreq-info: I have created a cronjob script in order to bring the frequency back to acceptable range. So my boss deploys a plethora of Asus TInkerboards to assist with production. We are currently using an OS image provided to us by this website---specifically, Ubuntu_xenial_next_desktop.7z. On some occasions, with kick ass access points, the tinkers will disconnect from the wireless network that we are using. We are also using an antennae attachment which seems to help a bit with connection issues. Without providing too much specific info, is there an updated driver being worked on somewhere that I could be pointed towards? Any info/words of wisdom would be very helpful! Thank you! Best regards and thanks in advance! Joey

Armbian_25.2.2_Rock-5-itx_noble_vendor_6.1.99_gnome_desktop.img.xz I first tried this, as it was the first version offered at the top of the page. No matter what I tried, sound would *not* work. Armbian_25.2.2_Rock-5-itx_bookworm_vendor_6.1.99_cinnamon-backported-mesa_desktop.img.xz And this one, sound *did* work, at least through the speaker jack anyway, but I suspect HDMI would too. Hey everyone I've compiled my own kernel using this awesome tool, and I'm now running it on a tinker board. Everything's been working fine, except for one annoying thing I just ran into: I can't use the GPIO pins. When I try to use a pin in python I just get this message back: "RuntimeError: This gpio is set to other function!". If I run Debian I can use the gpio just fine, but I need some kernel modules that doesn't ship with Debian. That's why I've compiled my own armbian kernel. Anyways, any idea on how to fix this? Any special module I should add when compiling the kernel? Thanks Marius

Hi folks... Looking at RK3288 on Armbian and the power/thermals - which are considerable considering SBC's like tinkerboard and miqi Currently - looks like all cores are following the same power/time domain - so one core goes fast, and the others follow, so sucks power and raises temps, and we get heat soaked quickly... Looking at the Rockchip docs, it does look like the RK3288 does have PD's for each core along with other logic... Six separate power domains for every core to support internal power switch and externally turn on/off based on different application scenario * PD_A17_0: 1st Cortex-A17 + Neon + FPU + L1 I/D Cache * PD_A…

Hi friends, I have one nagging thorn in my side that I just cannot figure out. I need someone who has a 1password account for help with this one. The problem - their desktop app and browser plugin work in tandem -- and it will not synchronize on Armbian for some reason. I've tried everything I can think of - ensuring nothing is downloaded from Flatpak and therefore sandboxed and preventing any connectivity issues. But still not working. If someone can take 5 mins and create a free trial account on 1password, then here are the steps to reproduce: Download the latest arm64 version of 1password Desktop: curl -sSO https://downloads.…

Yeah so just like the title says, has anyone got a tip for a USB Bluetooth dongle that works with the mainline kernel? I got a UGREEN Bluetooth 5.0 dongle a while ago and have just tried again, installing firmware for it. It does get detected as a USB device and the firmware loads. But bluetoothctl never finds it. Gnome doesn't let me 'enable' bluetooth. I'd like to avoid buying a string of these so was just wondering if any are working with mainline? Cheers!

I am currently using an old version of uboot on the SPI flash (so it is a little painful to test new version) and I am wondering if I should disable my SPI in order to have uboot on my emmc (to boot off the emmc) or if there is even a newer option to reflash my spi with a newer uboot... I edited the /boot/armbianEnv.txt and add the overlays, I found different parameters and all doesn't work, I tried: overlays=spi0 spi2 overlays=spi-spidev param_spidev_spi_bus=0 and via armbian-config: fdt_overlays=rockchip-rk3399-spi-spidev But with all approaches I didn't get a /dev/spi* device. Any ideas? TIA

Dear All, I am running a project with Tinkerboard and a gigE camera. Trying to take video image through gstreamer (gst-launch). The camera is an Imaging source camera (DFK 33GX249) and I am using the linux library (https://github.com/TheImagingSource/tiscamera) for developing apps. My Tinkerboard is running Armbian Stretch (Armbian_5.50_Tinkerboard_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.52_desktop) Everything is working perfectly untill I am trying to run the command below: tinker@tinkerboard:~$ TCAM_LOG=DEBUG gst-launch-1.0 --gst-debug=tcamsrc:5,tcambin:5 --gst-debug-no-color tcambin ! videoconvert ! autovideosink The output is: Spoiler …

I run a audio loop code on a Raspberry pi 4/5 and Orange Pi 5. The latency of audio loop is 0.2 seconds on Raspberry pi but on orange pi it takes 1.2 seconds. For orange pi, i am facing this problem with different Operating systems as well apart from armbian. I've used Ubuntu, Orange Pi OS, Armbian. All have got this problem. The code I have attached. Since the issue is faced in multiple Operating System I strongly feel this has to do with the driver level softwares or directly related optimization from Rockchip. Can anyone guide what I could do audio-loop.cpp

Hi. I'm running Armbian 22.05.3 Focal with Linux 5.10.60-rockchip on an Asus Tinker board. Can someone tell me how to enable SPI? I've seen instructions that say you should be able to run armbian-config and go to System > Hardware > spi-spidev, however the Hardware menu does not exist for me.

I have compiled with Armbian build (btw i reported that RockPro64 and Rock64 download pages give 502 Bad gateway) 1. Armbian_23.08.0-trunk_Rockpro64_jammy_current_6.1.46_minimal.img 2. Armbian_23.08.0-trunk_Rockpro64_jammy_current_6.1.46_cinnamon_desktop.img With SPI disabled, the img boots fine, but when reboot/restart takes place, board gives black screen, no U-boot activity, no white light. It will boot again after restart if reset pressed or power off/on Shouldnt board reboot normally? PS nd after u-boot log/text this screen shows prior booting

Hi everyone! I have recently bought an Orange Pi 5 Plus (16 GB RAM) and installed Armbian (the Pi Plus version). Then I enabled GPU hardware acceleration, as suggested on the Armbian download page, which then updated chromium and other things to the rkmpp versions. Now, if I start chromium under Wayland (tried Sway, Gnome, and KDE), the hardware acceleration works nicely, so I get good FPS on e.g. WebGL aquarium, and similar things. However, the antialiasing of some items on the screen does not seem to be working. Antialiasing in WebGL seems off as well. You can see an example in the attached screenshot. Here's what I have tried so far: Before installing GP…

Hi, I've tried to setup the latest Debian 13 (Trixie) for the Renegade board. I can flash the image with no issue. The problem comes it boots up, prompts for root password. I can type in then press enter, and then it goes to login. This only happens on the Debian 13 (Trixie). I am using the Debian 12 XFCE imange no issue. I am not sure if this is a bug or what, but I loved to use Debian 13, I am trying to setup Docker with the latest OS.

Hi everyone, I was experience some strange things with two similar devices, the first I installed in february this year, mesa v.24.x and EGL 1.4 and it was working fine The other one I installed this week and it turns out that it uses mesa v.25.x and EGL 1.5, although performance was great with most 3D apps (like glmark2) I had poor performance under sway/kitty or the retroarch menu for instance (something like 15 fps). It took me a few days to find a solution so if you have similar issues please try installing mesa with the kisak repository as it fixed my problems sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa -y sudo apt update sudo apt upg…

I'm using ffmpeg and Kodi from the @amazingfate ppa. All has been running great although I don't think that I'm using hardware acceleration. I'm still on an older Jammy with the old/legacy kernel. I've tried newer kernels but getting issues so I stuck with the older kernel. I've started noticing lately that videos are being encoded with pixel format yuv420p10le. In Kodi, I was getting black screens while the audio was playing. I was following up on the Kodi forums, and was told that Kodi needed to be compiled for OpenGL instead of OpenGLES to make the video render properly. This has happened now on identical brand new boards, new EMMCs, also on SD, identical 5a factory PSU, factory heatsink. OS is Armbian, and it has happened on current desktop and server. This last time I had completed several successful reboots and thought maybe I just hadn't been pushing the plug in all the way. Then it happened again. Prior attempts have been on EMMC, directly burned with Etcher, and brand new Sandisk Ultra in package with bubble. The behavior is while the board is running, white light flashing, system munching it just dies. Throws no errors. Just quits. Green light never goes out. I was tailing the emby log when it crashed this time. N…

I selected GPIO 0 and entered the commands gpio mode 0 out gpio write 0 0 I connected a multimeter to GPIO 0 but it always shows 2.85V when I did gpio write 0 1 the multimeter also shows 2.85V gpio readall shows 1 in column V when "gpio write 0 1" com…

However, Armbian is configured to provide only spidev2.0, while TinkerOS can have spidev0.0, spidev0.1, spidev2.0 and spidev2.1 all enabled at the same time as long as you disable UART4 which shares GPIO header pins with SPI0. In the TinkerOS case, there is a config tool which edits a small and straightforward text file in /boot/ containing lines such as "intf:spi0=on" or "intf:uart4=off". The corresponding Armbian file seems to be /boot/armbianEnv.txt - possibly with overlays=... lines and DTS files. There also is a tool called armbian-add-overlay to load (at runtime?) DTS files...

When running PassMark on my Rock Pi S running Armbian 25.11, the system completely freezes, including the serial console. The blue TF card read/write LED stays lit, and OOM events are visible on the serial console. This freeze typically lasts over half an hour before the system recovers as the blue LED turns off. OOM events also occur on the stock kernel 4.4 system, but it doesn't freeze. I really don't want to use the 4.4 kernel system, but how can I optimize it? I haven't touched my ROCKPro64 for quite a while. Pulled it out today and starting playing with it. I was getting 2 blinks of white LED, then a pause, then repeating. I thought it wasn't booting or something. After checking a whole bunch of things, including connecting a serial terminal, I finally realized I had a bad Ethernet cable (and this was why it was not showing up on my router). The board (and OS installed to eMMC) had been fine the whole time. Now, my understanding is that the LED behavior is particular to software (bootloader, I guess?). But FWIW, on a slightly older Armbian (21.02.3) at least, this appears to be default b…

I have long struggled with a problem with my Rock S0: If using the USB OTG port in device mode, the connection would suddenly drop randomly, minutes or sometimes hours after initialization. I spent months on and off looking for solutions, and I finally found one, so here it is if you ever find yourself having the same problem. Basically, it is caused by the SoC being very sensitive to voltage drops before the USB controller interprets it as the connection being lost. It's far more sensitive than it needs to be, given that my device is bus-powered and so the OS never actually needs to worry about a connection loss. If the connection is lost it is because I have unplug…

Hello, I am running Armbian 23.05 "minimal" (with the provided kernel 5.10.110) on my OrangePI 5 4GB. Upgraded all packets to latest. When trying to run GeekBench 5.5.1 ARM Preview, it reboots when approaching the end of multicore tests, with "performance" governor and default speed range (0.4 - 2.4 GHz for A76). Same goes if I drop the max clock speed to 2.2 for A76. After dropping to 2.0 GHz max, it runs fine; but this hurts performances quite a bit. I tried various power sources, including a bench PSU which can reliably supply up to 30A (but I only see a few spikes over 2A). The board has a large heatsink installed wit…

Hello, After 5 years of loyal service, my Helios64 SBC just died on me last night. Would a Radxa Rock5 ITX+ and a M.2 to Hexa SATA Adapter could be a good drop in replacement to reuse the case? Both are Mini-ITX so it would fit. I know I would lose the front panel lights and power/reset button, and I would need to cut the back panel to fit the I/O shield but these are minor problems. What I am more concerned with, is if it is at all possible to power the 5 HDD from the radxa board (as the Helios 64 board didi). Helios engineers had made it possible to do it with minimum power, mainly by starting up the drives sequentially. …

Hi, i get a probleme with the actual uart acces config by default on Uart2 (pin 32, 33), because i need to use PWM pin (use to set motor speed with a L293D) and on the board only pin 32, 33 can be use with PWM. Now i am using 32 33 pin as PWM but if the cable on these pin is connected the board doesn't boot, maybe because the uarts of u-boot use these pin and the result of un connected cable to my setup = Critical fail. When i remove the cable on pin 32 the board boot. So i need to solve that because i don't want to disconnect this cable at each start and i want to use uarts with this setup. I need to change uart2 to uart1 or find a way to get PWM or a other pin option …

Hello everyone, I'm a newcomer to ARMBIAN, and I'm eager to transition from my current stock Odroid (20.04) setup (petitboot full nvme SSD) to a more up-to-date distribution, complete with the latest kernel upgrades. I've taken the time to go through the documentation and here's what I've gathered: It appears that native booting from an nvme SSD or USB isn't possible (yet?). Instead, I'll need to use microSD cards or an emmc module for booting while installing the system on an nvme SSD. I also understand that deactivating petitboot is necessary. Now, I have a few questions: Q1: Do I have a correct understanding of these two p…

Looks like the current-rockchip64 kernel that one receives with apt on PINE64 rockpro64 is 3.18.10 (6.18.10-current-rockchip64), vulnerable to copy-fail. This seems weird because if you go to https://armbian.com/boards/rockpro64 that page says that the "current" kernel for these systems is 6.18.26 and that is what you get when you download the image file. Is there an issue with updating the apt repos?

Ok so I think I have this figured out. It doesn't work at all in Armbian 23.05.1 with the 6.x kernel no matter what I try. It does work in the older Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy (kernel 5.15.93) but the given instructions didn't work for me and needed additional commands. I had to enable the rk3328-opp-1.5ghz overlay or else the max frequency was locked to 1296 MHz. I also found the MAX_SPEED value in the instructions to be too low. To get it to work in 23.02.2: First you have to enable the rk3328-opp-1.5ghz overlay in armbian-config (System > Hardware > rk3328-opp-1.5ghz) or just add it to the overlays line in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and reboot. Next open the /et…

Hi there! o/ I have noticed something... Odd. This is not a show stopper here, but the TinkerBoard NIC leds stays off all the time (if no traffic) even with link. It does blink somewhat schizophrenically when there's traffic. The right NIC led is bi-color and sometimes blinks in yellow, sometimes blinks in green. For what is worth, running Kernel 4.4-120. Issue also happened in build -104, which was the original Armbian image that I have downloaded. I thought it was something with the port, cables but... Traffic flows just normally Is it... normal? :-) Have a great (tinkering) weekend!!!

I will receive soon a Orange Pi 5 Plus. I have setup completely an Orange PI5 with Armbian. I had to recompile kernel, compile drivers ...... it took some time. If I run the Orange PI5 plus with the same SD card as the Orange Pi 5, would it work? If not, is there an easy thing to do to make it work? I think there is a device tree file hardware specific , but is it read when compiling the kernel or dynamically? I am asking because processors are very similar, and it would make my life easier! Your view will be appreciated. Thanks.
