Hello, I have tested Armbian with SD card without issue. I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same using SSD. SSD is much more reliable and faster than SD card. I can do it with the Ubuntu release from Odroid using petitboot, but it seems that Armbian isn't compatible with petitboot. Thank you

So, I've been struggling to figure out the reason behind this problem. I have 4 Le Potatoes, all connected to a 100 mbps switch. Each of them have a 32 GB Samsung SD Card EVO. Initially, the problem was that my SSH session would hang at random usually when I download something. I can't SSH again unless I reboot the PI (I didn't bother waiting longer than 5min) Initially, I thought SD Cards were bad, I moved them around, done reinstalls. I'm also using SD Formatter to format them and Etcher to install them. Still, this freezing problem had no consistent behavior according to PI hardware or the SD cards.. For Power, I'm u…

I got the Le Potato Ubuntu server image up and running. Then installed the Mate desktop environment. Most everything is working fine, but the system freezes hard at times, mostly when I try to run several large programs concurrently. Problem with memory? Also, some resolutions have the refresh rate set at 68.5 Hz that don't work on most of my monitors. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for the work you guys put into it, and I look forward to the continuing progress!

Hi all. I've recently received the Odroid N2+. Since nobody else started a topic about it, I'll be the one. All works fine with Armbian since not much hardware changes have been made vs the N2. Except for the CPU frequency. With the Odroid Ubuntu you can set it to 2.4Ghz for the big cores A73 as overclock (2208 stock)., and 2016Mhz for the A53 cores (1908 stock). With Armbian the max clocks are 2Ghz for all cores. Using Armbian Focal 4.9 legacy. I tried setting the higher values in config.ini. Also tried with the "meson64_odroidn2_plus.dtb" file from the Odroid Ubuntu. Doesn't boot with that. (What do I know ) Other changes are the RTC b…

Hi, I am using the Odroid N2, and I have recently switched from the Hardkernel-supplied Ubuntu Mate, to an Armbian version with kernel 5. I was hoping to combine a homemade NAS using CPU accelerated LUKS-encrypted disks with a Kodi mediacenter, and the N2 seems to have excellent properties to do both. Installing these Armbian functions immediately fixed a few problems that Hardkernel's Ubuntu had (unstable BTRFS driver, and I also see no sign of the USB3 disconnect problems that Odroid used to have). However, this version has a problem to recognize audio hardware - in the GUI, I am unable to select HDMI audio or analog audio. - Fo…

I've spent the entire morning trying to boot armbian on a vim 3 basic. It won't boot from sdcard. I erased the emmc with krescue, no change except now it doesn't boot anything, except the krescue sdcard. I put the armbian image on a USB stick and tried to flash it to emmc With krescue but krescue says it's an invalid vim 3 image. I verified the Sha and I also tried using the extracted dot img file. Which isn't recognized by krescue. How do I boot an sdcard or flash the emmc When none of these things work? The only thing that boots now is the krescue sdcard. What am I doing incorrectly? What else can I try?

EDIT: Please don't trust in the numbers appearing at the top of this thread. Obviously there were bootloader/firmware issues that needed to be resolved and afterwards Potato performance will be somewhat higher. Since I didn't find numbers may I ask owners of the device ( @Igor, @TonyMac32 ?) to run 4 quick benchmarks? Two times openssl, 7-zip and tinymembench. Please comment also which clockspeeds and which distro you used (Xenial preferred). Thanks!

Hello Le Potato hackers, I have a small favor to ask of you: I just wrote a Howto cross-compile mainline u-boot for your "Le Potato" (actually it's supposed to be for the La Frite when this starts shipping, but right now it's for the Le Potato) Here: http://wiki.loverpi.com/faq:sbc:libre-aml-s805x-howto-compile-u-boot Since I don't have a Le Potato I cannot verify that my HOWTO really produces a working u-boot, so I would be very grateful if any one of you could spend around 20 minutes of their (very valuable, without any doubt) time to follow the step-by-step instructions and check it out? What you need: An x86_64 PC/Laptop…

Hi there, yesterday I tried to use nand install skript tool to move the content from my sd card on odroid n2 to emmc card for booting and using emmc card only. The process itself worked and the content of the sd cards was moved, but after unplugging sd card and plugging emmc card the boot process is not starting and nothing is shown on the hdmi monitor. I compared the /boot filesystems and both are identically. I checked the "armbianEnv.txt" file and it is ok for the new uuid of the emmc card. Everything seems to be identically but why is it not booting. Does someone have a hint what to check additionally what is maybe missing at beginning of the boot process.…

@Igor I tested the XFCE, CLI and Minimal Bullseye images from https://armbian.com/bananapi-m5 (2022-11-30). I tried to build myself one from master (current and edge - bullseye/desktop/xfce), same outcome: it shows the Splashscreen and then stops here: I don't have a USB-to-TTL adapter, so I can't provide more debug informations. The only images that still boot (reliably!) from the SD card are the ones archived here https://imola.armbian.com/archive/bananapim5/archive/ that still used the Kernel 5.19.16. The switch to 6.0.x occurred two weeks ago: https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/ce61bd7827d42c63bc1f763d…

My current HC4-setup consists of 1 SSD and 1 HDD. The SSD contains the most recent Armbian-image (Buster-based) (https://redirect.armbian.com/odroidhc4/Buster_current). Long story short: it won't boot from SSD, and Google tells me it is because Armbian is not compatible with Petiboot. Armbian suggests the following solution: "Important: To be able to boot clean Armbian mainline based u-boot / kernel experiences, you need to remove incompatible Petitboot loader that is shipped with the board. From the Petitboot, go for “Exit to shell” and these commands to remove the Petitboot:" # flash_eraseall /dev/mtd0 # flash_eraseall /dev/mtd1 # flash_eraseall /de…

Hi, is there a way, how to check that image in download section is ok? Some time ago a I was desperate to have ZFS on an Odroid HC4 and after some trying found Armbian 21.05.8 Buster with Linux 5.10.57-meson64 on which I could compile ZFS module. Then I moved everything from the SD card to filesystems in a ZFS pool. It boots from SD card, though. And has been working fine for several months. Recently I bought another HC4 and took the current Armbian image for it: Armbian 22.08.8 Jammy with Linux 5.19.17-meson64 Everything works fine. Tried this image on the older HC4 and it doesn't see the second SSD. In the syslog I found this message: ata1: SATA link down (SStatus 0 SControl 300) …

Hi, I just wanted to report how I got Armbian 23.8.1 working on my Khadas VIM3 Pro board. It was not an out-of-the-box success story, but after a few nights of debugging, I found the cause and fix of the issue. Hopefully this post will save debugging time of somebody else and maybe this can be fixed in future Armbian releases. The issue is as follows: After flashing the Armbian 23.8.1 image to the VIM3's internal EMMC storage, the SBC boots fine initially. I walk through the setup-process of users/passwords/network/locale, etc... After the set-up completes, I reboot the SBC. It starts booting as usual, but when X.org starts, my …

Hello, after upgrading the Odroid C2 to the current Version on 16.08.2024 the USB-devices do not work at all. According to the diagnosis information they are recognized during during bootup. But later they are disconnected for an unknown reason. https://paste.armbian.com/jucovipaxo lsusb only lists two devices: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05e3:0610 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hi guys, I installed the latest Armbian (Buster) release for my Odroid HC4 and - after getting rid of Petitboot as that just wouldn't let me boot the image - it's working great so far. Only big problem I have is that it does not recognize any SATA devices, in neither of the two slots. I tried different HDDs / SSDs that I verified are recognized on a Windows PC and another Ubuntu PC. Did anyone get that working already? I assume the required Kernel drivers for the PCIe-Sata-chip are probably still missing. Many thanks and best regards Daniel

Hello all, I am using an Odroid N2 with a 16Gb emmc and Armbian Bookworm. However as this got a bit small, I installed Armbian Bookworm to a new 64Gb emmc (Armbian is installed on an SD and can then be copied/installed to emmc). This seemed to work fine, and I had a running system. However, on the 3rd or 4th reboot, I got the error that the file "boot.scr" wasn't readable. With that, the emmc was not bootable anymore. I reinstalled multiple times, and each time, the emmc would work for a 2-5 boots, but no more. Each time, i got the error as above, or the error as below (partition could not be found) I never had this issue with the 16Gb emmc? Does anyone …

Hello, I'm new to this world of SBC. I'm trying to learn as much as possible, and I realize maybe I should have started with a better documented board like the rPI. I guess I just like learning the hard way. I'm trying to use the GPIO pins on the board. Starting with baby steps, I'm looking to just simply turn on/off an LED via GPIO. I've been searching and poking around the /sys filesystem to try to understand how this works, but I'm having a hard time understanding which pins to expose via the export file, and what physical pins those map to. I see /sys/class/gpio/ has two chips, 0 and 10. I see gpiochip0 has 10 pins, and gpiochip10 has 101. Is t…

Just a warning for everyone, the new kernel update (6.18.xx I think?) absolutely wrecks the system (atleast it does on Ubuntu Noble). It doesn't boot at all anymore I needed to recover an old kernel from an old backup I had and overwrite the current kernel from rescue mode/petitboot. Kernel 6.12.xx seems to work fine(ish) Just a heads up because I don't know enough to pinpoint the exact cause. p.s. for me the kernel means the files in /boot not sure if I used proper terminology

I upgraded the kernel today via apt-get update/upgrade and it seems kernel for armbian 23.08 is being pushed to users with 23.02 breaking a bunch of stuff. After upgrading the kernel ethernet stops working and requires the user to manually downgrade kernel, uboot (and dtb?). I am currently on "current" kernel (6.1.11-meson64) I'm thinking of downgrading to legacy (5.xx) via armbian-config, does anyone know if this is safe?

For the second time today on my few-days-old Odroid N2+ build with Buster desktop I have a system-wide freeze. Blue LED is constantly on and there is no response to keyboard or mouse events. Hi all, I've been searching this topic for a while but haven't found a clear answer to my question. Running an N2+, I've noticed that sometimes, in dmesg, a process will be killed due to lack of ram, this is usually when, for example, plex is busy generating video thumbnails and bazarr is syncing newly downloaded subtitles for example. This isn't as common place as such but it does happen from time to time. My armbian installation (latest ubuntu server image with latest mainline kernel) is installed to an nvme ssd, so I was wondering if enabling zswap and disabling zram would be beneficial in this case? Or can both be used at the same t…

Hi, i use a AML-S905X-CC board and since the last kernel update, something start moving on the hardware acceleration side, i got mpv hwdec working. I would like to make some tests and start using kodi for media reproduction, but i'm scared that 256M of default cma memory is not enough. I have tried to set the cma memory size from kernel parameters using armbian-config. I have tried to add "cma=350M" and "extraargs=cma=350M" to boot environment. Both commands does not work. The strange thing is that i'm sure "extraargs=cma=350M" pass the command to the kernel parameters because i have already used it to disable a faulty composition output. I h…

Dear all, first, as being new here: Many thanks to all the work that went into this! Now, here's my problem on Le Potato, which I have with armbian and LibreELEC: As soon as I copy anything large to any media, some services (SSH, Samba, Kodi, tvheadend - all of them network dependent) crash after writing something between 200 and 700 MB - not always at the same point. So anything like cp /some/huge/file /home/me crashes the services. Something like this: cp /some/huge/file /dev/null is no problem. I tried writing to SD as well as to USB, and I tried via network (scp from another machine into Le Potato…

I was trying to route my audio from HDMI to the 3.5mm stereo jack. Tried playing with various knobs on alsamixer (like what you could do on the Raspberry Pi), but couldn't get the audio to switch. Looking into the DTS, it seemed like there was consideration made for analog audio ( e.g. analog-amplifier). Was this ever working?

Hello, I have a La Frite 1gb. Im trying to boot armbian but it wont boot, I have checked the common problems list on the libre computer forum , It stated sd card, power supply etc. I have made sure that none of these are the problem, I have tried 5 different sd cards and im now using a 6th brand new Sandisk Extreme bought in the store (The one recommended by libre computer). I have tried many PSUs , All 5V 3.0A which is supposed to be enough, I get no help in the la frite forum so i thought i would check in with you guys and see if anyone knows what the issue could be. Good morning, after some time using armbian on my OdroidN2 with great success (got Nextcloud with working Talk installed, external USB, Minecraft server, nginx, LetsEncrypt, Netdata...) I encountered some problems I am not able to solve by myself: I bought a RTC battery and a LED power button to "finalize" my Odroid (hardwarewise), and to my surprise both did not work as expected. RTC: It says: chris@OdroidN2:~$ sudo hwclock hwclock: select() to /dev/rtc0 to wait for clock tick timed out cat /proc/interrupts |grep rtc ...gives me also no return (empty string), so i guess there is a module missing in the kernel : chris@Odroi…

I recently installed the latest precompiled Bullseye image on my Odroid HC4 and plugged in two Samsung 870 QVO 8TB SSDs. After configuring the system I noticed that they were not present, checking output from `/var/log/syslog` I can see the "SATA Llink down" messages for both channels. After several reboots I tried seating them after booting, both drives cause some messages about a soft reset failing, then eventually within 30-60 seconds are recognised until I reboot. I then one Crucial MX500 4TB SSDs which was recognised at first, after some reboots it would no longer be present, or strangely, be present with a much lower capacity (1TB). When seating the d…

Hello all, I noticed that since recently (TM) I got loads of spam from panfrost in my dmesg output: I understand that this has something todo with graphics. The only "graphic" thing I'm doing is running standard Klipper-Screen through HDMI and this seems to be working as always... It definately wasn't there like half a year ago. can I get rid of it? Is it something to worry about? my armbian is running on a Banana-Pi CM4 module of of the eMMC. It's a rather standard installation with Klipper installed via KIAUH. sincerely - cad435

Hi. Looking for help. I have uploaded Armbian v6.12 Desktop Ubuntu to a card and run on my device. You can see in the screenshot (video of the boot here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_1dm1rP33tbYISPUsta7nZV1eKPy3Plq/view?usp=drive_link) that some rubbish is displayed. I would also add that the device is sending a signal that is only displayed by the TV. No other monitor in the house is able to display anything that is sent from the device. This is even stranger, as when I upload the old ubuntu 18.04 to the same card, the device connected under any display displays my desktop. Any suggestions or suggestions? Maybe an older version? I am trying to set up a Banana Pi CM4 on a Bigtree Tech Manta M8P, which is a 3D printer board which has a socket for the CM4. However, I don't have the option to use a wired connection to the router or plug in a keyboard to interact with the CM4 on initial startup, so I get stuck at the set root password stage. Is there a way around this? I have tried using WSL to mount the SD card after burning, but I can't seem to access it there to change the files on the card directly. Ideally, I would like to burn Armbian with Wifi credentials already set so I can ssh from the start. I appreciate any help. Keep in mind that my Linux fu is about good enough to get Klipper…

Hi all. A few improvements have been made lately for the Odroid N2/N2+. HDMI sound for example. There are just a few little things I'd like to see happen to make it even better/perfect for desktop use, and for gaming when the GPU drivers for it are ready. Make HDMI resolution selectable in Armbian itself instead of in boot.ini. This would fix multiple issues. Like with mainline it always defaults to 4K on my 4K display whatever resolution I set in config.ini. The N2+ can work well at 1440p, but 4K is just too much for it. In legacy 1440p works when setting it in boot.ini. But can't be changed in Armbian itself. For gaming this will be a huge problem(on mai…

I've tried putting boot_delay=0 as well as console=serial in armbianEnv.txt in hope of shortening the time in u-boot, but these didn't change anything. I've also tried building this image with no initramfs and no loadable module support.

Hi, I installed armbian_23.8.1_Radxa-zero_bookworm-current_6.1.50 on Radxa Pi Zero eMMC and I have an USB SSD drive connected as storage. Of course I am running a 4.18 armbian kernel (I assume they were using a 3.14 kernel for their tests) so I was never going to match their numbers precisely, but 33% more power seemed like an awful lot. Then I realized I had a USB thumb-drive installed, so I did some experimentation... My numbers were generated using an inline USB power meter that measures pretty accurately compared to a bench meter. My initial findings: …

Hi I installed Armbian_community_26.2.0-trunk.151_Odroidhc4_trixie_current_6.18.2_minimal.img Trying to build zfs-dkms I discovered that I was missing the linux-headers for this kernel version and there is no package containing it. At least apt-cache didn't find anything. Any idea where to find it? Thanks, Chris

Hello, I got a BPIM5 with rtl8822cs board and a BPIM2+ with internal wifi chip for home automation. I started my project (vpn gateway) with the ubuntu server distribution on BPIM5. I had a lot of instability of the wifi driver (lost of station in AP mode) and and the board crashed every two, three days. I switches to ARMBIAN with the last Armbian 22.11.3 Bullseye with Linux 6.1.4-meson64. This software seems to work fine on M2+ and wifi is fine and stable. So I tried to move my M5 to the same level. The M5 boot on sd card, I move it on MMC memory and the board boot . Unfortunatly the wifi board (rtl8822cs sdio) is not recog…

Hi, please ignore my username, it's quite old. System is an odroid n2+. After updating the system (apt dist-upgrade) and updating linux-image-current-meson64:arm64 21.08.1 to 21.08.6, my sd card could not be mount anymore. New firmware was: linux-image-current-meson64=21.08.6 / 5.10.81-meson64 System runs from emmc. The 256gb sd card is used for more internal storage. Kernel message: mmc0: error -84 whilst initialising SD card - repeated every few seconds. Downgrade back to linux-image-current-meson64=21.08.01 / 5.10.??-meson64 (did not remember minor version while changing kernel in armbian-config): works again…

Hi, This is my first try to add a board to armbian build system. I got a BPI M2S since several months, but only had time recently to investigate on this promising SBC. I made a PR here, if somebody wants to try it: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4597 The main improvements are to be done for the dts file, since I'm not an expert about such file definition. Only 1 ethernet of the Gbit ports is working, since I copy the config from vim3 that share the same hardware for it. I didn't try to customize u-boot and I use the one for radxa zero2 that works to launch armbian on the board. armbianmonitor -u is here: https://paste.armbian.co…

Hi, Recently I reinstalled system on my Odroid C1+ from older Ubuntu with original 3.10.107 to newest Armbian with kernel 6.12.44. Odroid-N2 using Armbian_20.08.1_Odroidn2_focal_current_5.8.5 I've recently got a "Connection timed out" issue. For instance, I can open files with nano, use htop, armbian-config, update and upgrade packages, but I can't reboot (everything over ssh). I'm having a feeling that the issue started when I tried to figure out if it's possible to get HDMI to work with my 4K TV when the HDMI cable is not plugged in at boot. In that case, I booted several times and chaged boot.ini with setenv display_autodetect "false", setenv hdmimode "1080p60hz" and setenv disablehpd "true" without success. armbianmonitor -u information is attached at the end in my post where this line migh…

Hey all, I'm unable to boot Armbian from the SD card of my Radxa Zero 1 GB. When I download one of the official Armbian Radxa Zero images I always get the message "ALERT! UUID=eba52b2e-b77a-47b9-9619-ebda85946883 does not exists. Dropping to a shell!" Previously I ask the Radxa community on Discord, were I received the suggestion that the CMA memory maybe was configured too high. I tried to make an image from master (4b21499534, after https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4151 was merged) but that didn't help. When I run `dmesg` I get the following repeating error "mmc1: error -84 whilst initialising SD card" When I run `blkid` I do not get any output B…

Hello everyone, Upgrading from distro isn't supported officially but I tried it anyways and thought I should share my findings. In short, it worked for me. Others have reported issues so maybe we can figure out what causes these issues. My N2+ is fairly vanilla, so I didn't heavily modify it. Running 5.10.x kernel since that is recommended for de N2+ Step 1. Fully upgrade your system on Focal sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Step 2. Shutdown you N2+ and make an image backup of your emmc using dd or Win32DiskImager in case something goes wrong Step 3. Boot up your N2+ a…

Odroid N2+ booting from eMMC with a 4TB USB drive. With the USB drive disconnected, the system boots fine and very quickly. With the USB drive connected, it throws hundreds of errors for about 30 seconds before finally moving on and booting from the eMMC. I have no desire to ever boot from SD or USB, so I would like to just disable those options. I found this topic https://forum.armbian.com/topic/10349-disable-u-boot-usb-support/ but I can't really follow what they're talking about and I have no idea how to patch U-boot or build a new boot image. Is there an easier way to do this? Here's what the errors look like: Hit any key to stop autoboot: …

Hi, i have armbian bullseye (headless) installed on my odroid-hc4. petitboot is disabled. The boot-partition lies on a sd-card while the root-partion is on a ssd. this configuration worked fine. After upgrading to armbian bullseye 22.11 the boot process stucks in initramfs cause the root file-system is not found anymore (ALERT! UUID=xxx does not exist. Dropping to a shell. The sd-card with the boot partition as well as the ssd with the root-partition can be mounted on another PC and seem to be flawless. the UUID shown in fstab and initramfs are identical. In initramfs ls /dev/sd* shows no devices while ls /dev/mm* shows the sdcard (mmcblk01...). I don't really …
