  1. My current setup is the tinkerboard powered by the raspberry pi universal adapter connected to ethernet and a external HDD(Maxtor M3) powered by the Tinkerboard's usb. I have used it very lightly in this configuration (ssh-ing into it and copying some files to the hdd) but from what I have gathered from the information available here this powering setup is inedequate and will lead to problems. So I want to follow the recommended method and power it through the GPIO pins. I am considering using this or this powersupply. (I realize 10A on the second one is overkill for the tinkerboard, but the price difference from the 3A rated one is minimal and I could find some othe…

  5. Hi, last night a set of updates was installed and I rebooted the Orange Pi 5+ this morning. After the reboot I've seem to have lost the connection to the Orange Pi 5+, it is normally connected without a screen so I access it through SSH and the Open Media Vault web GUI. I've tried to connect it to a screen and then it seems to boot up just fine. Looking around with the screen connected it seems like the network cards aren't detected. My Linux skills are very limited but "sudo lshw -class network" shows nothing. One detail is that my router seems to detect it when it's connected and gives it the normal IP address that I've set in the 192.168.0.x ran…

Alright, the biggest issue with the ASUS Tinkerboard being "resolved", I'm starting to take care of the VPU driver, in order to use it with mainline kernels. The hardware video encoding/decoding facilities are the real meat of the RK3288, and recent Rockchip boards. The VPU driver aims to use these facilities in order to provide the smooth video playback experience that every Netflix/Hulu addict expects when buying such boards. Which mean, once this part dealt with, you might be able to enjoy your Multimedia oriented distributions/softwares on your Rockchip boards (MiQi, Tinkerboard and maybe Pine64 too !) So the driver is already …

  15. Hi. I need hardware OpenGL ES, at least 2.0. I’ve tried this https://github.com/rockchip-linux/libmali It works OK on latest Asus OS 2.0.1, but for Armbian 5.33 kernel 4.4.88 it doesn’t: ERROR: The DDK is not compatible with any of the Mali GPUs on the system. The DDK was built for 0x750 r0p0 status range [1..1], but none of the GPUs matched: Segmentation fault I don’t have much experience with Linux, but IMO it might mean the kernel + userland parts of the GPU driver are incompatible. Is there a working GPU driver for Mali-T76x on Armbian? Thanks in advance! Regards, Kosta.

  40. *Updated 7-23* ~~All kernels should be fixed at this point, Legacy, Next, and Dev.~~ The ASUS Tinker Board has a big problem with rebooting properly, centered around the SD card power supplies. To make matters worse, vqmmc is set to 1.8 Volts if you use a UHS SD card, and the kernel is not switching it back to 3.3 volts before rebooting, which is required if the Rockchip boot ROM is to communicate with the device. Spoiler Trying to get the Bluetooth working, I've had a few different issues, I've labelled them per kernel: Default: Running "hci_attach" locks up the board after config and loading firmware. UPDATE June-25-2017: Disabling DMA on uart0 resolved the issue as theorized below. UPDATE Feb-22-2018: Services added loading Bluetooth automatically on boot, takes reboot after fi…

  55. As a warning: I have a RockPro64 that was initial setup using the Armbian 20.02.1 buster desktop image (using the 5.4.20 kernel). Over the past few months, I have accepted each minor release of Armbian up to the 20.05.7 release with a 5.4.49 kernel Yesterday, I installed the 20.08 upgrade with 5.7.15 kernel, and the board failed to boot. I have only just got it working again. (I had to restore the kernel and supporting files from a recent backup, and restore symlinks in /boot). I don't know the root cause. I have ordered a second MicroSD card so that I can try booting from a fresh 20.08 image, and I will report back on what happens. In …

  56. I know for sure that booting from an sd card and then using dd to write the uncompressed image to the emmc device isn't what works. I'm talking about Armbian_22.02.1_Pinebook-pro_focal_current_5.15.25_xfce_desktop.img here. Because that essentially bricked my PBP. I have the little adapter to connect the emmc to a usd slot, and using balena etcher to write to that isn't it either. the uboot in that image prevents booting from sd automatically as well, and i didn't find any uboot documentation that made it clear how to manually boot from sd, though i did hook up a serial console. This is what it said. The LED never turned green, the display flashe…

  57. I recently bought an orange pi plus and am using the armbian 6.12 server (https://dl.armbian.com/orangepi5-plus/Noble_current_server) I'm wanting to setup hardware acceleration for jellyfin but having trouble with the right steps. I'm using jellyfin inside docker on the orange pi inside armbian. I've found various tutorials but it seems like some of them reference things that no longer exist (like panfork seems to no longer be needed for latest mesa if I'm understanding correctly?), so wanting to see what I need to do to set this up. So it seems like I need to disable panthor and use mali instead, but I can't find in the armbian config menu the opt…

  58. Hello all. I'm doing some tests with the Tinker Board to see what's the best operating system for it for a new video. I'm using the Armbian Ubuntu Desktop legacy kernel. For this I do Blender and Kdenlive renders to see if there's a speed difference. But with both I've got the problem that it crashes the Tinker Board. Sometimes it's a hard crash and the whole system freezes, and sometimes Blender or Kdenlive just close themselfs but Armbian keeps working. I do not have this problem in Lubuntu. In TinekrOS Kdenlive totally doesn't work. It looks the same as an unstable overclock on a system. I've tried different psu's. I'm using the Tinker h…

  59. I purchased a ROC-RK3328-CC from LovRPi.com. The ONLY OS available I can get to boot is Armbian, so this is important. This is a new install. Everything seems to work well enough except DNS. The browser can't resolve domain names, though it can access the various routers' IP's.. cat resolv.conf shows the head text and nameserver 127.0.0.53 I've tried editing the network connection, adding DNS servers, which had no effect except that systemd-resolve --status shows the correct DNS servers for eth0 (the wired connection). This cannot be altered by systemd-resolve --set-dns=[DNS Server IP]. It doesn't throw an error but neit…

  60. Greetings everyone. I hope to receive some assistance here. Our company is a small Linux cloud gaming provider that uses the Cinnamon edition of Linux Mint for our cloud gaming services https://maximumsettings.com/ . We are searching for an affordable local streaming device that we can recommend to our clients, capable of decoding H.265 at 4K - 80Mbps. The Orange Pi 5 is a perfect fit for this role, and the Armbian Cinnamon desktop is well-suited since our clients already use Linux Mint Cinnamon edition on the cloud Gaming PC. However, there is currently no support for our open-source streaming client, Moonlight, which we use as the default option for our clients. T…

  61. Hello ! I see in config file of kernel 4.14 support for RTC ds1307. But in system i not see RTC. I just see RK808 RTC. I need your help for use DS1307 in my tinkerboard because rk808 is not fonctional ( no battery)

  62. Orange PI 5 doesn't boot after firmware update using ARMBIAN beta tool. There isn't so much documentation, as this board is new. How to recover the firmware?

  63. Hi everyone, I've been working with Armbian for a while on my Rock Pi S, I got to a stable situation on version 24.11.1 with kernel 6.6.63 where everything worked perfectly... but recently this last week I applied an apt upgrade, which applied strong base modifications (linux-current-rockchip64 and dtbo going from 24.11.1 to 24.11.3), after applying this update and rebooting, I can't get it to boot again, either from the Micro SD or from the eMMC installation. I wanted to report this bug, but I don't have a TTL cable at hand to be able to do the corresponding debugging... I've tried to flash older versions, or even flash the 24.11.1 version again …

  64. Hey folks, im trying to compile a realtime kernel for mt orange pi 5. I plan to use it for djing. A fully preemptive kernel delivers better performance for this, as less xruns appear. I am following the official dev instructions and am using the docker method, Compiling only the kernel, not the entire armbian OS. I copied a realtime patch (actually I tried several sub versions of 5.10) from the kernel.org realtime project site into the userpatches directory (I looked up the correct orange pi 5 subfolder name but forgot it rn) but compiling throws me some errors. Has anyone succeeded in creating a kernel like this for the orange pi 5 and/or co…

  65. Topic to discuss RK3288 overlays, primarily concerning ASUS Tinker Board, the MiQi is technically EOL and has very little GPIO anyway, and TV boxes are more or less sealed. Kernel 4.19 will be the pilot for this, the discussion now that it seems to be working thanks to @martinayotte and @zador.blood.stained's feedback and examples is what to overlay. For testing/debugging I started with some ASUS overlays for RTC and 1wire. Easy ones: spidev out of the default tree but as default overlays. instead of making 1 overlay and messing with parameters, just make 2 overlays DAC's: I don't have a lot of hardware to play with, but @…

  66. This was working on the tinker debian release, so I'm thinking this sis some kind of s/w issue. Is there something I'm missing on how to enable this? Thanks! Dave

  67. Hi, Thank you for maintaining this excellent distribution, I have tried out this evening, via SD card, the new Armbian 23.11 Bookworm CLI Kernel 6.7 and I wanted to share some feedback on it along with some queries please: 1) HDMI works connected to my 4K Samsung TV, although I had to turn off "Input Signal Plus" for it to display the console correctly, otherwise there were all manner of green rectangles and other screen corruption present. Turning off "Input Signal Plus" fixed this straight away. 2) I cannot access either of the SSDs I have connected to my powered USB 3 hub. I tried with the hub connected to the USB-C port …

Hi all, I just bought TinkerBoard S and I downloaded Armbian Stretch 4.19 (tried both with and without desktop ) and I tried to boot. But no luck I was waiting for few mins but nothing. I also tried Armbian Strech 4.4 but also nothing. Am I missing something here? Original TinkerOS work without any issue Thank you for any advice/help

  69. I've got Orange Pi 5 Plus board with 16 Gb of RAM, 256 Gb of eMMC, Realtek RTL8852BE-CG wireless module. SD card is Samsung EVO Plus 32Gb. I tried to run Armbian images on this board (from the SD-card I've mentioned before) but it was absolutely failed. 70. Hey My Tinker board is my first dev board and it runs damn hot, I saw this and it says its for the PI, can somebody in the know tell me if It would work on the Tinker Board please. I am running Armbian Ubuntu server temp fan control Thanks!

  71. Hopefully this is not a stupid question but I came across Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-rockchip: Ubuntu for Rockchip RK35XX Devices (github.com) when searching for my video playback issues. Does anyone know how this compares with the current armbian release with vendor kernel? Are all the fixes from that release integrated in armbian or does it go the other way?

  72. Hello, I have roughly 30 Orange Pi 5 here in the office setting up for deploying in the field. NVMe boot is working great after using 'nand-sata-install' to flash the MTD. But sometimes (rarely, but happens), when issuing a reboot of Armbian, after full kernel shutdown, the player does not boot back up. Power light is on, no activity blinking LED. Network link and activity blinking. Just won't boot. Requires physically disconnecting power for a few seconds then re-plug to get to boot. I have watchdog set in Armbian and tested that works. So this seems to be before Linux kernel has taken control. Is there any way to enab…

  73. Hello. Has anyone had success with setting up the onboard wifi on the Tinkerboard without the network manager? I have tried using wpa_supplicant to connect but not having any success. Here is what (I know works on an Intel Compute Stick running Ubuntu 16.04) I've tried: wpa_passphrase SSID password >> /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -D nl80211 -B dhclient wlan0 dhclient just keeps retrying and goes no where, I don't get an IP address I can connect to my network using the Network Manager no problems, just can't figure out a way to get it to work with the network manager disable…

  74. I've been trying to configure the HDMI screen I purchased for the orange pi 5. It's listed to work with the raspberry pi so I figured it should work with the orange pi 5 as well. When I connect the screen, the screen just turns white. These instructions were included in the manual to configure the usage of the screen with the raspberry pi, but I am not familiar with how to translate the configuration into armbian. Write the image to the TF card, then modify the following configuration in config.txt: # uncomment to force a specific HDMI mode (this will force VGA) hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=87 hdmi_cvt 1024 600 60 6 0 0 0 # unc…

  75. I have built and used it with the latest source and still HDMI audio and analog audio does not work. Is there any way to get HDMI audio to work other than using the vendor kernel?

  76. Hello, I'm having issues with my Orange Pi 4 LTS. I cannot get any HDMI output at the moment. Neither with the Debian flashed on the eMMC, or with Armbian running of the SD card. In both cases I can SSH into the Orange and run commands normally. The HDMI worked just a day before, but in the meantime I was flashing different systems and it stopped working. I tried different monitors and cables. Any ideas what can I do?

  78. Hello again, Based on the recommendations provided in a previous ticket, I have decided to attempt to build a custom image for the Orangepi 5 Plus. I read the docs provided in the link of that post and noticed that there is no mention of installing the cross complier tool chain for arm in ubuntu 22.04, which I just downloaded for this purpose. Do I need to install those tools or will that be addressed once I clone the git repo and run the compile.sh BOARD=orangepi5-plus ? Also the instructions mention Multipass and Docker, I have a Debian 12 workstation with virt-manager installed, will that work or will I need a dedicated ubuntu 22.04…

  79. Hello everyone, This is my 1st post on the forum. My intention with this post is not to report a specific issue that I am running into, but more because I would like to collect info and suggestions from people with more experience than myself. I've recently received an Orange Pi 5 Plus and have spent a bit of time exploring operating systems suitable for this system and have settled on the Armbian solution. I'm a HW designer by trade, and have done some SW work, but I do not consider myself proficient in SW at all. I find my way around things, but that's about as far as it goes.... For the my planned use of the OPi5+, I will need eMMC b…

  80. Hi all, first post here so please forgive me if I've get any bits wrong. Thanks for all the work put into supporting this project, and thanks in advance for any and all considerations extended in helping me step through my issue here. so i've had an 8 node kubernetes cluster running fairly smoothly on my tb's for nearly a full year now, so far I have not had any major issues with armbian updates until this weekends... The remaining five orig TB models with Samsung EVO SD's all came up without issue... s…

  82. Good evening, last week they changed the electric meter in my building, but in order to do so they cut the power, and my Tinkerboard (the first model, the one issued back in 2017, Asus first's SBC), that I use as my "Save for later, and never look at it again" network folder, suffered. It continued to reboot from some kernel panic, which I forgot to take note; but since it hadn't been upgraded to jammy, I took the opportunity to do it. Pluging in the uSD card (with the newly released jammy version, just downloaded here), power, and all (including the ethernet cord!!), first boot I have to create my user (which, for some reasons refuses to let me put my usual fr3d tag…

Hi, Im pretty new to linux in general mostly used windows before. Is there a way to get waydroid work on armbian? I installed it but waydroid sais that the binder kernels are missing (1). When I follow the instruction to install the kernel modules using dkms I also get a failure (2). (1) ERROR: Binder node "binder" for waydroid not found (2) Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: linux-headers-5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588 Anyone can help me with this? Thanks in advance!

  84. This will be a catch-all for HDMI-related things. Sep. 29, 2017 UPDATE First up is hotplugging in Mainline. Script/rule added to build system. Thank you @botfap for the script I am getting the system events triggered saying the HDMI is unplugged/replugged, (using udevadm -monitor) however nothing is happening in response to the events it would seem, the screen is still blank. I could hook a script to the event, but I'm not exactly sure what I would tell it to do... Any thoughts would be great, I'll be researching.

I was constantly getting these errors: wiringPiSetup: mmap (PWM) failed: Operation not permitted wiringPiSetup: mmap (GPIO) failed: Operation not permitted I'm on 23.8.2. 1. Install armbian and update apt sudo apt update 2. As stated in OrangePi5Plus wiki page I got .deb installer for wiringPi on OrangePi Now here's the link to this file: https://github.com/orangepi-xunlong/orangepi-build/blob/next/external/cache/debs/arm64/wiringpi_2.51.deb 3. 87. RTL8852BE is the official recommended Wifi module for Orange Pie 5 PLUS, but it is not available in Armbian 24.5.1 Linux Vendor Kernel 6.1 without a driver module. Hope the official driver will be added to the 6.1 kernel. Thanks.

  88. Anyone who typically updates on nightly kernels I would recommend freezing and not updating until we clear up some issues gifted us by some large amount of upstream changes that broke well, pretty much everything. I will update this thread as things get brought back to life. June 7th 2018: I've made a branch (rockchip-default) to work out the kinks. So far I have the board booting and Mali working again (with an initial error on load) , however there is no HDMI terminal, so initial boots would require a uart or SSH hdmi terminal is back thank you to Ntemis on github, I'd missed part of the conversation (I only have cell phone while at w…

  89. Hi, I'm pretty new to this forum may be I will ask some already answered questions, but here they are: I just had a new orangepi 5 plus card and I failed to use the "buses": - I2s: didn't find anywhere how to activate it (i'm trying a dac as a soundcard). Didn't find the hifiberry-dac overlay neither (ok maybe this one is just for raspberry). - spi: I plugged a simple mcp3008 to the spi pins but can't read anything on it (i have the /dev/spidev0.0/1 and /dev/spiddev4.0/1 devices). I think I respected the rights pins. - i2c: when I activate the overlays in armbianEnv.txt, I can see a lot of messages every seconds with dmesg about rk-hdmi. Ma…

  90. Hello, I usually use the Next version of the image for the tinkerboard. I would like to use the nightly version. 91. Hello, Long time Gentoo and Raspberry Pi user, but I am interested in a more powerful Arm device. Will buy an Orange Pi 5 plus device if it meets my requirements. I am interested about dual or multiple boot: let's say Linux and Android or, at least multiple Linux distro - let's say Armbian and Gentoo. It is possible ? On Raspberry Pi 4 with a larger boot partition I switch content of /boot from boot/debian /boot/gentoo, have multiple partition on SATA SSD connected via USB edit root parameter in /boot/cmdline.txt and that way I choose which distro to boot. On Orange PI 5 (Plus) I read that SPI chip have to be flashed to choose the boot device fro…

  93. I downloaded and flashed the three images of Armbian 24.8.1 (Noble GNOME, Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy and Debian 12 Bookworm) on the Banana Pi M7, connected to the computer via serial console. The three images are these: Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_noble_vendor_6.1.75_gnome-kisak_desktop.img Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_jammy_vendor_6.1.75_kde-neon-kisak_desktop.img Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_bookworm_vendor_6.1.75_cinnamon-backported-mesa_desktop.img For each image, I booted and logged the board output. 94. Hi guys, sorry, on with my second issue with the Asus Tinker Board and installing a DS3231 Real Time Clock module. I've tried following any instructions on the internet for Tinker Board use and a couple for the Raspberry Pi, from recompiling the kernel through to trying to edit boot files. I just cannot get this thing working so I've now got myself a fresh install of Armbian Stretch 4.14 and ready to go again.
