  3. Hi, I've got several tinkerboards that I've reproduced this problem on. I'm using the tinkerboard to do network tests, this includes iperf3 traffic, dns querys (dig), https and http (echoping), and ping. All of these tests runs against IPv6 targets and IPv4 targets. These tests are scheduled to very frequently (every other minute or so). To begin with, all tests run fine.. I get good results (~1gbit throughput / low latency / no packet loss). However, after running the tests for 15-20min, suddenly all traffic will more or less stop working (80-90% packet loss). This is no matter what I'm pinging, can be the local router, some target on the…

  7. Hello! Can anyone comment whether PCIE Passthrough is even theoretically possible on an Orange Pi 5+? 8. On the OrangePI-5-Plus, using an edge kernel, I've found that the desktop environment's GPU rendering works very smoothly on Wayland, in KDE 6 on Debian Trixie. It renders much more smoothly than gnome with Wayland (it's been my experience that the edge kernel is the only one that works). But I've encountered a major rendering bug. It only appears in Trixie KDE Plasma 6 with Wayland rendering. It does not appear when using x11 or when using either rendering in gnome. Nor does it appear at all in Bookworm. I have tried all kinds of things to "fix" these to no avail, including installing more wayland and mesa packages, then upgrading them to stable b…

  9. Hello, I tried to setup a network bridge on the Orange Pi 5 to utilize with Qemu/KVM and some virtual machines I have. Here is my armbianmonitor output: https://paste.armbian.com/dajivikohi I edited /etc/netplan/armbian-default.yaml and modified it to setup a simple network bridge. I've done this countless times on other hardware I have. Hello! Does anyone, and by anyone I probably really mean @balbes150 :D, know what I need to do when building official Mesa for it to be recognized in the experimental 6.x kernel environment? There's a panfrost focused dev/staging branch that the panfrost devs are using that I would love to try and be able to build for OPi5 but when I do it I always just get llvm. balbes, you are managing to get the GPU recognized would you be able to share how that's done in the building? I'm not asking for you to provide a build I would just love to know how you do it so I can as well and test the new versions as they happen. This is the branch and commits…

  11. Hello! I’m trying to get a RockPi S connected by a slow ethernet connection with 10mbps (half or full duplex) but it doesn’t seem to work. If I test with a 100mbps connection, everything works fine and as expected. Using 10mbps, it seems to look fine, e.g. ethtool shows a link with 10mpbs, advertised modes look fine but the RockPi S doesn’t even retrieve an IP via DHCP. If configuring a static IP, no ping to any address beside the own IP address is possible. I’m using latest debian-based armbian 23.8.1 stable and performed apt-get update & upgrade. Anyone encountered the same problem and has some hints? Unfortunately I’m not a linux pro so unfortunatel…

I also ran the same application on Raspberry Pi using preinstalled wiringPi C library, but I noticed that the Tinkerboard GPIO speed is very slow. I wonder why this is the case. I would appreciate, if someone share opinion about it. I've added the C program and attached oscilloscope screen-display for GPIO port speed for both Tinker Board and Raspberry Pi. I tested Tinker Board with 2018-02-22-tinker-board-linaro-stretch-alip-v2.0.5 image. GPIO speed is about 158 Khz I tested Raspberry PI 3 Model B with 2018-03-13-raspbian-stretch image. 15. Thank you all for this series of notes. I have been operating Armbian 22.08 successfully using the sd card on my PBP and like it BUT I would like to boot from emm. I have tried dozens of ways to install it to no avail. Seems to be associated with the rootdev=UUID=... If I use the UUID provided in the Armbian-install then I can boot from emm but it ends up mounting and running from the SD partition. Is there any code that can be inserted into the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file that would provide better diagnostics? To me it appears as if the emm partitions UUID is not available at boot time. Thanks, Carl

  22. See https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8685 Using his SPI flash image, and then using armbian-config flash from SPi/system on NVME option worked. I had commented out the set the uboot partition section to what is started booting from lines in boot cmd to do the initial testing. I have been booting mainline for a while on this device. It boots much faster, and two or three weeks agoTobias Schramms atf patch made into mainline atf so the device no longer hangs on a soft reboot. I have booted from sd, emmc and the NVME with this u-boot. I haven't tried usb3 or usb2.

  23. I've compiled mainline kernel 6.6 which runs well on my OrangePi/RK3399. The only problem left is getting H.264 decoding working. Unfortunately, when I query /dev/video1 which is the node created by the hantro-vpu driver, only MPEG2 and VP8 are shown as supported codecs for decoding. No H.264, even though I've read many places that the mainline hantro driver supports H.264. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something else I need to do to get this working?

  26. I did a bit of reading - to prevent ubuntu packages to update the rockchip optimized packages, you need to pin the packages. There is a simple way to do that. 1. Create a file called rockchip-multimedia-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-rockchip-multimedia Pin-Priority: 600 2. Create a file called panfork-mesa-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-liujianfeng1994-panfork-mesa Pin-Priority: 600 You can verify that the apt configuration is working correctly with sudo apt policy chromium-browser which should return chrom…

  27. I know this sounds strange, but I cannot get any of the images to boot. I have an R3S non-LTS + SD card. It works well with the stock images from FriendlyElec, but none of the Armbian images I tried will boot. I tried different tools to write the SD (BalenaEtcher, USBImager, Rufus), but nothing changed. When I tried to read the SD card with Armbian on my x86 laptop running Debian, the system didn’t recognize any proper partitions (maybe that’s normal, maybe not—I don’t know). But when I write an Armbian image for Allwinner NanoPi, the partitions are detected correctly. And finally, I can’t connect to the debug UART, so I can’t get any logs. I feel…

  29. Hello! I'm trying to get Armbian jammy latest to boot on my new RockPro64. I've tried both the CLI and XFCE images, flashed with Balena to a good SanDisk uSD card. Both boot into U-Boot but then fail to find a partition on mmc 1. Checking the SD card there's only 1 Linux partition and no FAT one. I tested with a Debian image on the same SD card (DOS + Linux Partition) and it booted into the installer no problem. Any ideas? Thanks! 37. Using the 5.xx kernal I have been changing the eth0 MAC address at /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ 'Wired connection 1.nmconnection'. This has changed a bit as the versions progress - but version Armbian 21.08.2 Focal / Linux 5.14.5-rockchip64 has now moved the "wired ..." file to the /run/NetworkManager/system-connections/ and suspect the file is recreated at every boot (edits do not stick). 38. I'm trying to use an SPI driven TFT display on the orange pi 5, but I'm stuck on enabling SPI in the first place. Looking at the pinout of the orange pi 5 in its manual, it appears that SPI4...M0 is the only bus broken out to the pins. 43. Hi, The release notes for Armbian 23.11 state, under Key Improvements in This Release, "Mainline Kernel for RK3588 with experimental HDMI support." I am currently running the default 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx kernel If I wanted to switch to and try out the mainline kernel for RK3588 with experimental HDMI support, would I do something like this: sudo apt install linux-image-collabora-rockchip-rk3588 After testing, If I want to rollback to the default legacy kernel, what are the steps involved? Apologies if there are instructions elsewhere that cover this. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

It did a SIGKILL9 on firefox-glean. Increased to 8gb, still failed until I increased ZFS to 16gb, and then even at a whopping 16gb it crashed next on GkRust for OOM/SIGKILL9 as well until increased ZFS to 32GB! 331 minutes later, it was succesful Just wondering, to save myself from future pun…

With the Ubuntu images provided by Firefly, the analog audio works fine, so we can exclude that it may be a problem with the hardware. I have seen in this forums such descriptions for other boards with the 3328 CPU, but from my understanding do that solutions not fit for the Renegade. May somebody provide me a hint, how to activate the analog output? Here you can find the Armbianmonitor output: http://ix.io/1vHd Here you can find inform…

  50. Does anybody know how one could correct multichannel HDMI audio mapping in the current-rockchip64 build or kernel? When I run speaker-test -c6 -D plughw:0,0 on (kernel) 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx + (dtb) dtb-6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx Everything is mapped correctly and I hear audio from all the correct channels. When I run the same command on (kernel) 6.18.12-current-rockchip64 + (dtb) dtb-6.18.12-current-rockchip64 I get no audio on center and rear right channels (others are working). Hi guys, I got a SPIdev overlay to work on the rock S0, figured I'd just share it here for the record, since I could have used this info myself (I spent days trying to figure it out since I had no experience with device trees or whatnot). Basically, download the attached .dts file, then run sudo armbian-add-overlay rk3308-spi2-spidev.dts I also edited /boot/armbianEnv.txt and added this line, but I'm unsure if that's actually necessary? param_spidev_spi_bus=2 This worked on Armbian 24.5.1 Noble, creating /dev/spidev2.0. You can verify that it works using this tool: https://github.com/rm-hull/spidev-test The dts file is based on this one…

  52. I have installed Armbian on my Rock Pi S, done some setup, and then taken an image of the disk to be duplicated to other devices. The problem is that each of these devices get the same permanent MAC address on the ethernet port as the first device. I don't know how Armbian gets the MAC address from the interface but it doesn't seem to depend on unique hardware, or if it does then the hardware ID isn't actually unique between boards. This leads to problems because my device is meant to be used several in the same network, causing collisions in DHCP assignment etc. I have tried multiple workarounds and none have worked well. I tried spoofing the MAC addr …

Initial tests show that OS stability, board performance and form factor make the tinkerboardS a good substitute for the raspi. However, one issue we have run into is a conflict with pin 32 of the GPIO which is used by the hostboard for managing output devices. We have tried to turn off serial2 by removing the UART2 overlay and adding 'console=display' in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and also disabling & masking serial-getty@ttyS2.service but that hasn't stopped pin 32 from being chatty when connected to the hostboard. When I check the status of cpufrequtils service, it seems that it does not load correctly as it is not able to find the requested governor: But if I start it manually later, it seems to load all my settings correctly: Any ideas to fix the problem except manually reloading it later? armbianmonitor: https://paste.armbian.com/owoluf…

  91. Hi, I am running the latest Armbian image with Noble + GNOME for the Rock 5C. I have build it using the `compile.sh` script without altering the kernel, desktop enabled, based on Noble, with GNOME, no applications, no extensions. Added the kisak PPA repo afterwards and enabled the panthor overlay for hardware acceleration. Should be close to the `Armbian_24.11.1_Rock-5c_noble_vendor_6.1.75_gnome-kisak_desktop.img` image, I think. With Chromium (few tabs), VSCodium (working on some code) and a couple of terminals open, things were crashing all the time. Here is a reproducable example with Chromium, when navigating t…

  92. Dear all, I got myself an Radxa Rock 5 ITX+ as I thought I'd saw that this board had premium support. After it arrived, I saw that only the ITX (non-plus) variant had premium support, which since latest Armbian release some days ago seems to has been downgraded to standard support. I cleared both the eMMC and SPI flash to make sure the preinstalled OS were gone and would not interfere with the boot up process. Then I built myself a latest image with trixie and vendor kernel but I realized that (after booting from sdcard successfully), the Nvme was never picked up. The ITX+ has two M.2 full-size slots instead of only one - and is missing th…

  93. I want to install jellyfin on my OrangePi 5 Plus and need OpenCL to enable HDR-SDR mapping. I tried to follow the instruction on Jellyfin's official website: Rockchip VPU | Jellyfin However, I'm stucked on the step of installing OpenCL. I also tried this: Install OpenCL on Debian and Ubuntu and Armbian for Orange Pi 5 RK3588 But no luck either. Both instruction led to broken hardware acceleration in chrome and failing to start kernal in Jellyfin. Logs from ffmpeg: sudo /usr/lib/jellyfin-ffmpeg/ffmpeg -v debug -init_hw_device rkmpp=rk -init_hw_device opencl=ocl@rk Applying option init_hw_device (initialise hardware device) with argu…

  94. I am after compiling a module for a wireless card. I got plenty of errors, thus decided to go to the basis and test the creation of a "hello" module. 96. Greetings, After setting my tinkerboard pins 22 and 24 as an Inputs, they reverts to being an output pin on HIgh after around 30 seconds. What is the cause of this? Is this some kind of feature. I don't have this happen on any other pin other than these 2. iomari

  97. Tinkerboard · Started by Solskogen,

Is there an official way of installing libmali drivers on Armbian? I'm feeling a bit slow, since I can't really figure out how to install them. It seems like files from this github repo will overwrite other system files, so it's not a solution that would work in the long term.

  99. I upgraded my ROCK5B in-place from Armbian Bookworm beta to Armbian Testing/Trixie beta and it turns out that no Ambian packages are seen (so not updated). The Debian Trixie packages do upgrade, as for example I just saw while doing full-upgrade: libavif16:arm64 (1.2.1-1.2) over (1.2.1-1.1) ... I thought something with my install, but also downloaded 'Armbian_25.8.0-trunk.50_Rock-5b_trixie_vendor_6.1.115_minimal.img' yesterday and it has the same issue (quick test via systemd-nspawn container on loopdev mounted image). My goal is at least to figure out what is best bootloader and kernel for the ROCK5B. So far I simply copied/cloned Armbian Bookw…

  100. Looking for a bit of advice... Been running Armbian CLI on the tinker (nonS) via SD card no problems Got an S with eMMC... Wrote tinkerOS and it loads no problems... Wrote Armbian image.... No go / boot Any suggestions on how to fix.... Thanks... There is a bit here which is what it used to re-write TinkerOS to the eMMC https://tinkerboarding.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Setup Really like the Armbian CLI versions as lightweight and without bloat.
