Hi guys, My N2+ just arrived and I was able to install a Debian Bookworm (EDGE) image I built onto it (both to a SD card and an EMMC card) The selector switch is set to boot from MMC. Armbian fires up nice from the SD card but it does not boot from the EMMC. I can see the Drive with fdisk so I guess I need to copy the boot image onto it. (Its /dev/zram1) This is the first step towards building a PREEMPT_RT image so I was excited to see it sorta works! Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Hello, I'll start by saying I'm new at those things. I have recently bought a "Le Potato" board. I was trying to install Lakka (via raccomanded link). When I plugged in the micro SD, the power, the HDMI out ecc, nothing happened other than two led turning on (red and blue). What could have gone wrong? Thanks in advance

Good morning everyone. My problem is that I had armbian installed in emmc and using armbian config I changed it to usb but I did not update the boot to sd and when I restart it only shows what I put in the photo and it remains black. Is there any way to fix it. By pressing reset with the HDMI unplugged it tries to start but stays in initramfs. Thank you

EDIT: Please don't trust in the numbers appearing at the top of this thread. Obviously there were bootloader/firmware issues that needed to be resolved and afterwards Potato performance will be somewhat higher. Since I didn't find numbers may I ask owners of the device ( @Igor, @TonyMac32 ?) to run 4 quick benchmarks? Two times openssl, 7-zip and tinymembench. Please comment also which clockspeeds and which distro you used (Xenial preferred). Thanks!

Hello everyone, Upgrading from distro isn't supported officially but I tried it anyways and thought I should share my findings. In short, it worked for me. Others have reported issues so maybe we can figure out what causes these issues. My N2+ is fairly vanilla, so I didn't heavily modify it. Running 5.10.x kernel since that is recommended for de N2+ Step 1. Fully upgrade your system on Focal sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Step 2. Shutdown you N2+ and make an image backup of your emmc using dd or Win32DiskImager in case something goes wrong Step 3. Boot up your N2+ a…

Hi guys I'm new to this type of computer. I recently got the Le Potato and have tried flashing the armbian package for it with USBimager and Balena and still get no boot. I was able to use the Raspberry PI imager and got Raspbian installed. I'm not sure what exactly is going wrong. I am using a Sandisk Extreme V1 32g but was able to get raspbian on a Samsung Evo select 256g.

Good day! I have a Banana pi m2s with Amlogic A311D, 4GB RAM and 16GB emmc. Official images from Banana pi work on this device (both emmc and SD card). The problem is when I try to install Armbian on SD card - using BalenaEtcher on Windows / Disk tool on Ubuntu Mate: - the m2s either doesn't boot (when Armbian is written on emmc memory) - or m2s boots from emmc storage (when Armbian is written on SD Card) SD card has boot priority over emmc and works fine with official .img from bananapi. I see all written files on SD card after using Balena Etcher. The difference from official images is that boot folder in official …

I have a ToupTek MU300 USB2 camera that I was trying to get working with my LePotato. The camera does not have native kernel support, but the manufacturer provides an SDK with a pre-compiled lib for x86/arm, and additionally I have a kernel module which works on X86/X64 with this camera as well as userspace libusb based code to access the camera. The camera is very sensitive to having buffers available during bulk transfer, otherwise the image will be corrupted. Generally synchronous bulk transfer is not fast enough, and requires multiple buffers supplied in asynchronous mode. On x86-64 and Rpi3/4, everything works as expected. I can grab im…

I am having trouble installing specific hardware dkms because the dkms requires the linux header files for the installed kernel version which are not available or do not exist. Armbian 23.05.1 Ubuntu 22.04 desktop version is build with kernel 6.6.63 but an apt search for the relevant headers finds none. Headers exist for 6.2, 6.5 and 6.8 but not for 6.6. How can I address this?

So, first of all, pretty much a newbie here. I'm trying to add protonvpn to my HC4. I was able to do it with Ubuntu Mate (from the HC4 webpage) on the same hardware, so I'm pretty sure it's possible on Armbian. To be fair, the ProtonVPN website says that raspbian is not supported (and I assume they meant to say ARM) but I have been able to get it to work on Mate, and the problem on Armbian seems to be the Public Key and nothing else. After installation, the app will start, but won't work, so some successful compiling for ARM seems to be happening. What I did: - Downloaded the deb file for Debian based stable release - Tried GDebi and Apt, but dpkg wo…

I think it would make sense to rename the forum section here from "Amlogic S905(x)" to "Amlogic". It would make much more sense for me to talk here for example about the Armbian port of the Odroid C0/C1/C1+ (Amlogic S805) then in any other forum section.

If I connected the serial port with my device through GPIO pin 8 and 10 (UART_AO_A_TXD, UART_AO_A_RXD), the Radxa Zero with " Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy" failed to boot. I know there is a template, but this board is already on the download page as unsupported, just ran a group of tests on it after building a full desktop image, I think we can move it to supported without any issues, the S805X is the same as an S905X with some things turned off, like comparing an H3 and an H2+. Pros: SPI contains u-boot, we don't have to do anything with that. Libre Computer updates the firmware periodically (available on their site) already supports USB boot, etc, and has a "press escape for menu" option, making it very difficult to brick. UMS mode is menu selectable (I feel like we need to look at this. I hav…

From time to time, I notice that the HC4 looses its IP address. journalctl then tells me: dhcp4 (eth0): selecting lease failed: -131 But I don't know the reason for it. Hi guys, I installed the latest Armbian (Buster) release for my Odroid HC4 and - after getting rid of Petitboot as that just wouldn't let me boot the image - it's working great so far. Only big problem I have is that it does not recognize any SATA devices, in neither of the two slots. I tried different HDDs / SSDs that I verified are recognized on a Windows PC and another Ubuntu PC. Did anyone get that working already? I assume the required Kernel drivers for the PCIe-Sata-chip are probably still missing. Many thanks and best regards Daniel

I've spent the entire morning trying to boot armbian on a vim 3 basic. It won't boot from sdcard. I erased the emmc with krescue, no change except now it doesn't boot anything, except the krescue sdcard. I put the armbian image on a USB stick and tried to flash it to emmc With krescue but krescue says it's an invalid vim 3 image. I verified the Sha and I also tried using the extracted dot img file. Which isn't recognized by krescue. How do I boot an sdcard or flash the emmc When none of these things work? The only thing that boots now is the krescue sdcard. What am I doing incorrectly? What else can I try?

I am trying to use radxa-zero with HDMI CEC support on Armbian debian. I tried all different Armbian debian versions, lsmod never give me module cec So I took a look at images provided by radxa (https://github.com/radxa-build/radxa-zero/releases/tag/20220801-0213, not armbian ones), cec is loaded by default I think this is the key: /lib/modules/SOME_KERNEL/kernel/drivers/media/cec/core/cec.ko This is in their image but not /lib/modules/6.1.11-meson64 folder (I guess also not in other kernel versions) If that's the case, CEC should not work on any meson64 devices. Install of Armbian 21.02.2 Buster with Linux version 5.7.15-meson64 and gpiod package installed on the Odroid N2 does not work for gpiomon. The gpiod command gpioinfo and gpioget work fine. Gpiomon fails with message "No such device". Searching for hours I believe the issue is that interrupts have not been assigned to the gpiopins, so appropriate devices don't exist. Any information on when/how to get a fully functional gpiod and associated python package going. Python code using python3-libgpiod also fails on the line.request function with the same "No such device" error.

Hello folks. I am thinking about getting a VIM3 or VIM4 as a PC for computation purposes. I think Monero mining shows the limit of a combination of memory + cpu. I will be thankful if an owner can xmrig monero mining software to do a benchmark. So to do the benchmark one should: - Download xmrig - Run a benchmark and submit it: https://xmrig.com/docs/miner/benchmark The benchmark will be available in the benchmarks page in xmrig website. Hello, I’m in a pickle. I bought an Odroid HC4 a few months ago, setup a RAID-1 array and installed Nextcloud on it. At the time, I used `nand-sata-install` to move the system from the SD‑card to a partition of one of the HDD (/dev/sda1), out of RAID (/dev/md0), and leave the bootloader on the SD-card. I did not make a backup of this SD-card and, after rebooting today, I realised the SD-card was not functioning any more. No device I use (Sansa audio player with Rockbox, phone with Ubuntu Touch, Laptop with Ubuntu) would even detect it. I was thinking of using `nand-sata-install` again to only update the bootload…

Hi everyone, I'm using Radxa Zero HW version 1.4, 4GB RAM with 64GB eMMC. I used long time armbian on SD card. I decided to install MMC for better performance but armbian crashes APT involving stuffs. By the way, I'm using Rzero with headless and connecting via SSH from Win11 machine. I installed with producer tools directly writing image to MMC and alternatively installed with armbian-config tool from SD card to MMC. In both way successfully boots and connects Wi-Fi. For better diagnostic, how can I get error dump? (I lost SSH connection when its crushed).

The output from lsusb -t also does not show the presence of USB WiFi as expected. root@bananapi-m2p:~# lsusb -t /: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M /: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/2p, 480M |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M Do I have a defective device, or is the WiFi not actually a USB module? Hi all, I have been using armbian jammy on my potato without issues. But since the weekend it only boots to initramfs and says can't find mmcblk1p1 I put the sdcard a live gparted and partitions are and verified. In initramfs I can find in /dev the mmcblk0p1 but not the mmcblk1p1 Now how can I change the boot or the name of the device?

Hello! I recently ran updates on the old M2S I won from here, and that appeared to break my OS, so I went back to try reinstall. And that's where I hit a snag. For some reason, after booting, the kernels refuse to see the partitions on the SD card. /dev/mmcblk0 exists, but none of the subpartitions, and so the boot process cannot find the partition it's supposed to boot from. Neither Armbian_25.5.1_Bananapim2s_trixie_current_6.12.32_minimal.img.xz nor Armbian_26.2.1_Bananapim2s_trixie_current_6.18.15_minimal.img.xz get me past this issue. I've tried changing the power supply, debug with LLMs, but nothing appears to b…

Hello, I recently updated my N2 server from Bullseye to Bookworm. Reboot went fine. I then noticed I still had the old kernel from the linux-image-odroidn2 package (4.9.190-odroidn2), so I ran armbian-config, and told it to switch to linux-image-current-meson64. It installed packages for a bit, then rebooted on its own without asking. Since then, every boot is stuck with a U-boot logo at the top right of the screen. What I tried: Fixed a couple of issues in /boot (zImage was a symlinked to the old `vmlinuz-4.9.190-odroidn2` that no longer existed, I made it point to `vmlinuz-6.1.11-meson64` instead; `boot.ini` referred to `boot/dtb/a…

Hi, after a long time I started up my C4 and tried both the standard download kernel as well as a home compiled one. I need SPI on the C4, so I changed the device tree to meson-sm1-odroid-c4-spidev.dtb, and see spidev kernel modul loaded, but no driver, and I don't get any signals on the corresponding pins. Any help is appreciated - would be great to have SPI working again... See you, Michael

This post is not a criticism but I suppose that noobs with experience with linux since 2006 like myself might get caught out by: * Desktops are very simple and minimal but containing standard features such as Chromium, Firefox browser, Office tools etc. This Ubuntu based "noble" distro DOES NOT have any browser installed as part of the image. Since I rarely use snaps, as they are controversial, I did not understand at first that "synaptic" will not install Firefox or Chromium. In fact you have to use the CLI terminal to manually install Firefox or Chromium with the "snap" program. May I suggest that the webpage description be amended to:…

Odroid N2+ booting from eMMC with a 4TB USB drive. With the USB drive disconnected, the system boots fine and very quickly. With the USB drive connected, it throws hundreds of errors for about 30 seconds before finally moving on and booting from the eMMC. I have no desire to ever boot from SD or USB, so I would like to just disable those options. I found this topic https://forum.armbian.com/topic/10349-disable-u-boot-usb-support/ but I can't really follow what they're talking about and I have no idea how to patch U-boot or build a new boot image. Is there an easier way to do this? Here's what the errors look like: Hit any key to stop autoboot: …

In my quest to use an ODROID N2 as a time server, I had to figure out how to enable UART_EE_A. Device trees for other boards sometimes enable UART A in the base device tree but the ODROID N2/N2+ does not. I am not sure why device trees don't fully define devices like UART_A and then just leave them disabled instead of partially defining them with missing "pinctrl" entries (as in the N2 device tree). Anyway, I've attached `meson-g12b-odroid-uart-ee-a.dtso` as an example of how to enable UART_EE_A. Additionally: The DT overlays for Meson UARTs (e.g. `/boot/dtb/amlogic/overlay/meson-uartA.dtbo`) are not compatible with …

I want to use a StromPi3 board with my lepotato board. I am using the armbian image. I used armbian-config to enable the serial ports and both show up as /dev/TTYAML0 and /dev/ttyAML6. Nonetheless I am unable to communicate on the serial ports even when connecting jumpers and a USB serial converter. I later tried to modify the divorce tree by hand. No change. Is there something else I could try to get the serial port on pins 8 and 10 working?

Hi Everyone, on my odroid n2+ _armbian 5.10.123-22.05.3 everything is fine but the system runs on a class 10 (uhs-i) sd card with very low speed... odroidn2:brontolo:# sudo hdparm -Tt /dev/mmcblk0p1 /dev/mmcblk0p1: Timing cached reads: 3440 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1720.27 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 68 MB in 3.05 seconds = 22.28 MB/sec ...performance is better with an emmc card but my interest is if you can make settings to improve the access speed, I haven't found anything on the net..!! would that be too complicated !? 😁 thanks for the advices... greetings to all..

I am unable to configure Xorg to ignore (and stop using as its default) the None-1 video device causing me not to be able to display a desktop via the HMDI-1-1 device. It has been suggested (https://ubuntu-mate.community/t/how-to-configure-xorg/26732/3) that I disable this device in the kernel, hopefully, via a kernel option such as : video=None-1:d Does anyone know where (which file) and how (specific method) I should do this?

USB gadget mode does currently not work OOTB on Armbian, but it can be enabled easily with a device tree change or overlay: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatible = "radxa, zero", "amlogic,g12a"; fragment@0 { target = <&usb>; __overlay__ { dr_mode = "otg"; }; }; }; I can open a PR for adding this as device tree overlay, or enabling OTG OOTB on Radxa Zero, like vendor did: https://github.com/radxa/kernel/commit/775a467 The latter would be simple. In case of an overlay, I'd need some hint about how to do it best: Adding it to the general meson64 overlays patch seems to be right: https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/p…

With the most recent minimal Debian image, Armbian_26.2.1_Bananapim2s_trixie_current_6.18.15_minimal.img on my A311D, I hit a problem with Xorg. Instead of starting up into dwm via lightdm's autologin, all I got was the blank blinking cursor screen. Working through it with an LLM, the resolution worked out to be adding a stanza to Xorg.conf. Section "ServerFlags" Option "AutoAddGPU" "false" EndSection Is this the correct solution? Is this known or understood? I know nothing about any of this. I presume it's related to how the devices look to Xorg via the kernel, but I have no understanding beyond that level, if that's even correct.

Hi, I fixed the following issue for my own system for now, but wanted to let you know: After upgrading the LaFrite from Armbian Buster 20.08 to 20.11 using "apt upgrade" it didn't boot anymore. It showed a message "Ramdisk image is corrupt or invalid", so I checked /boot/uInitrd and it linked to uInitrd-5.9.6-meson64, which didn't exist. I fixed it by downloading the latest image and replacing everything in /boot except armbianEnv.txt with what was inside the image. Afterwards it booted again. I replaced everything, because the image apperently still is on linux 5.9.6, while vmlinuz and other files on my system showed 5.9.10. …

Hi all. A few improvements have been made lately for the Odroid N2/N2+. HDMI sound for example. There are just a few little things I'd like to see happen to make it even better/perfect for desktop use, and for gaming when the GPU drivers for it are ready. Make HDMI resolution selectable in Armbian itself instead of in boot.ini. This would fix multiple issues. Like with mainline it always defaults to 4K on my 4K display whatever resolution I set in config.ini. The N2+ can work well at 1440p, but 4K is just too much for it. In legacy 1440p works when setting it in boot.ini. But can't be changed in Armbian itself. For gaming this will be a huge problem(on mai…

I was curious if anyone had worked on power management for the S905X. My Le Potato was idling around 0.32A@5.1V = ~1.5W The LibreElec guys documented idle current ~2/3 of that here so I was curious what was going on. Of course I am running a 4.18 armbian kernel (I assume they were using a 3.14 kernel for their tests) so I was never going to match their numbers precisely, but 33% more power seemed like an awful lot. Then I realized I had a USB thumb-drive installed, so I did some experimentation... My numbers were generated using an inline USB power meter that measures pretty accurately compared to a bench meter. My initial findings: …

bringing up a BIG 3d printer from square one on a bpi--m5 with a fairly new image. The pager requires 10 or more mouse clicks, starting with the _ . . . . . at the upper left corner of what I think is the default xfce4 screen. All the eye candy and mouse clicks to actually switch workspaces are very distracting when one is trying to configure klipper. Can all this be reduced to a single click on the dot representing that workspace in the micro-pager? The eye candy is impressive to visiting frogs, until its a PITA when actually doing work. We buy these things in 6 pack qty's to do work, and give you a small monthly support, but impressing the frog…
