Hi, I tried to connect an external USB 3.2 gen 2x2 4TB SSD drive to the only USB-C port available on the Rockpro64, but it's not recognized. I am using the M.2 connector on the Radxa Rock 5B+ board to connect an LTE module (EM7455). According to the datasheet and engineers, this M.2 slot is connected to the board via a USB hub (USB 2.0). When using the official Radxa OS, I can successfully detect the module under lsusb, the necessary kernel modules load correctly, ModemManager recognizes the modem, and I can establish an internet connection. However, on Armbian, I am experiencing a strange issue. The device does not consistently appear under lsusb; instead, the logs show that it keeps connecting and disconnecting in an endless loop. I am unsure of the root cause and how I can gather more detailed log…

I'm using Armbian_5.32.170920_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.13.0_desktop.img (yes I know it's a nightly) and it works great. However if I run "apt-get upgrade" something gets "upgraded" and the display no longer works. I've tested this on multiple tinkerboards with the same results. The tinkerboard is running, I can ssh into it. Hey everyone. New to Armbian and Orange Pi, but no stranger to everything I ever try do do being a major hassle! So here's the deal. Installed Armbian jammy 5.1 for orange pi plus. Working nicely. Except some of you might remember me from earlier today when I was struggling to get my ax210ngw working correctly (thanks by the way. Fixed that)! So I follow the process to switch from SD card to my Samsung 980 pro 1tb nvme. Bit of confusion getting it to show as an option in armbian-install, but I got it. Formatted in ext4 with a partition via gparted--now every time I try to run the install script, no matter which option I choose, it either freezes or…

Let's make a topic dedicated to the latest issues with the latest Linux Release Candidate provided on the Linus Torvalds git repository. So, on the 4.13.0-rc6, I got a crash on boot on my MiQi devices due to some changes in the logging functions used by the STMMAC Ethernet driver. I reverted some of their changes by just commenting the new logging function. I'll try to get in touch with the person who wrote the commit that generated this issue, as he tends to roam in the #linux-rockchip IRC channel. Meanwhile, here's the patch : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/blob/master/patches/kernel/v4.13/0012-net-stmmac-Reverting-a-part-of-Use-…

My first post here - I'm new to SBCs and stoked I got my home webserver up and running on a Orange Pi 5 which boots from an NVMe (pats-self-on-back : -) It runs great, pages are up, and it's all SO COOL, but it fails to do a restart... I can do a shutdown -h now, count to three and power it back up and all is well, but if I do a shutdown -r now it will go down, start back up, all the way to the login prompt but then barfs a long Oops message. God please... don't make me start over !

I purchased a ROC-RK3328-CC from LovRPi.com. The ONLY OS available I can get to boot is Armbian, so this is important. This is a new install. Everything seems to work well enough except DNS. The browser can't resolve domain names, though it can access the various routers' IP's.. cat resolv.conf shows the head text and nameserver 127.0.0.53 I've tried editing the network connection, adding DNS servers, which had no effect except that systemd-resolve --status shows the correct DNS servers for eth0 (the wired connection). This cannot be altered by systemd-resolve --set-dns=[DNS Server IP]. It doesn't throw an error but neit…

Continuing the tradition (1, 2) of micro-optimizations for single-board computers that come into my hands. This time I optimized or rather fixed the wake-up function via USB/WoL/WWoL on the Orange Pi 5 Plus. Also got the WiFi adapter RTW8852BE/RTW8852CE working (at least those are the ones I tested). I tested exclusively on the Vendor 6.1.x kernel since the main wake-up features via USB/PCIE/GPIO1-GPIO4 only work in it. I don't currently have the ability to test the new current kernel and I doubt that Power Management will work fully there. Armbian for Orange Pi 5 Plus from the official website, Vendor kernel (kernel 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx), what does…

Hello! I've been using Armbian on my newly bought Tinker Board for less than two weeks now and I've to say that the work you guys have put into this is incredible! It truly is remarkable and inspires us newcomers which haven't started studying computer science or are currently studying - as myself. So, I will definitely contribute and help others in the future to increase the Armbian community! However, as I'm new to Unix, Tinker Board, everything that's not Windows or Mac OS, I've a deep learning curve ahead! Let's start with my setup: Build: ARMBIAN 5.32.170921 nightly Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.14.0-rc1-rockchip (I know it's nightly so there are bugs, ye…

Hello everyone, due to a project I'm working with the Friendly Elec Nanopi R4S board for which I've to use the i2c bus to read data from a sensor. Unfortunately I've not been able to access it, since the system does not recognize it. I tried with different configurations using the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file with no results, however the i2c ports are enabled. To rule out functionality problems in the sensor, I connected it to other boards (e.g. nanopi Neo3 using Armbian) without problems. Do you have any idea what could be the cause of this problem? Thanks!

Hello, sorry for the tag (no odroid m1 tag) and if I'm in the wrong place. After trying several things and without success, I decided to try an old image: Armbian_24.2.1_ordoidm1_jammy_current_6.6.16_xfce_desktop. I here rcy boot, install, copy to SSD, flash mtd and reboot. On the OrangePI-5-Plus, using an edge kernel, I've found that the desktop environment's GPU rendering works very smoothly on Wayland, in KDE 6 on Debian Trixie. It renders much more smoothly than gnome with Wayland (it's been my experience that the edge kernel is the only one that works). But I've encountered a major rendering bug. It only appears in Trixie KDE Plasma 6 with Wayland rendering. It does not appear when using x11 or when using either rendering in gnome. Nor does it appear at all in Bookworm. I have tried all kinds of things to "fix" these to no avail, including installing more wayland and mesa packages, then upgrading them to stable b…

It was found that 3.5mm jack has issue with using headset. Speakers are work good on my "uname -a Linux orangepi5-plus 6.19.0-rc5-edge-rockchip64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jan 12 03:03:14 UTC 2026 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux" system but micro is silent. By debugging it was found that register 0x2b(43) "DAC Control 21" has difference between actually used es8388 on OP5+ and original driver's IC es8328. Also microphone bias was never activated by bits 2,3 in register 0x03. I create patch and now microphone work properly. My application creates 15 threads. Since A53 has 4 cores it is likely that more threads will be spawned by A53. Is there a way to manipulate scheduling and create more threads through cortex A72 so that it compensates the delay. Examples 6 threads on A72 and 9 threads on A53. This way it ensures the run time does not fluctuate and we achieve peak performance.

Hi, does anyone know how to get hardware video acceleration on orange 4 lts? I've looked around and I saw that rk3399's multimedia support can be enabled using the rk3399 legacy multimedia framework. But that requires a legacy buster image, which doesn't exist for the orange pi. I've tried to compile it myself, but it seems the compile script won't allow it. Is it really impossible to compile a legacy kernel for orange pi 4 lts?

Topic to discuss RK3288 overlays, primarily concerning ASUS Tinker Board, the MiQi is technically EOL and has very little GPIO anyway, and TV boxes are more or less sealed. Kernel 4.19 will be the pilot for this, the discussion now that it seems to be working thanks to @martinayotte and @zador.blood.stained's feedback and examples is what to overlay. For testing/debugging I started with some ASUS overlays for RTC and 1wire. Easy ones: spidev out of the default tree but as default overlays. instead of making 1 overlay and messing with parameters, just make 2 overlays DAC's: I don't have a lot of hardware to play with, but @…

Hi! I have got Orange Pi 4 lts with 4 gb ram version. I made flashed sd card using Armbian-Imager using jammy_current_6.6.31 minimal. My problem is OS detects only 3gb (2.91) of 4gb. And i investigated and googled, spent more enough time to fix it but still fail. It is not likely reservation. also tried with bookworm the result is same 3gb. with noble minimal the board doesn't boot at all. what can i do to make os detect all 4 gbs. Maybe there was some similar issue before and i missed? Many thanks, appreciate any help!

Hi, The release notes for Armbian 23.11 state, under Key Improvements in This Release, "Mainline Kernel for RK3588 with experimental HDMI support." I am currently running the default 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx kernel If I wanted to switch to and try out the mainline kernel for RK3588 with experimental HDMI support, would I do something like this: sudo apt install linux-image-collabora-rockchip-rk3588 After testing, If I want to rollback to the default legacy kernel, what are the steps involved? Apologies if there are instructions elsewhere that cover this. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Hi guys, First post here, I successfully managed to flash and boot Armbian 25.8.2 (Bookworm Minimal) from an SD card. Everything was working great, HDMI output and network included. I then ran “sudo armbian-install” and selected Option 4 to move the system to my NVMe SSD and make it boot from there. The process itself completed without errors. However, after shutting down and removing the SD card and powering on again the system doesn’t boot. I have the red LED turned on however the green LED that was previously flickering doesn’t turn on. There’s also no HDMI output and the board doesn’t connect to the network. I tried ins…

I have been pulling my hair out trying to get the acceleration performance (smooth 4K video playback in mpv / chromium) in Armbian (any of the MESA/VPU marked releases) that I am getting from the FriendlyElec distributions. In my naive mind, I thought the MESA/VPU version would get me there, but mpv stutters on 4K videos. I suspect this is because Armbian avoids the proprietary drives. A long time ago, Armbian Ubuntu versions were able to be 'amended' with the Amazingfate/liujianfeng1994 repository, but I have not been able to make that work in a while. Could someone point me to a guide that allows me to get similar performance with Armbian as I am getting with Frien…

Hi every body, I am a new user of Armbian and Linux based system. I wanted to use the Tinkerboard because of his 4K video processor (I am programming a special video application) I install Armbian following the steps of the site. Everything went good, the system is runing. I made all update an so on. Then I wanted to test a video (MP4 1920x1080) capability with the build in player, and the video is playing very slow. I try too a Youtube video, same thing... Meanwhile I installed a TinkerIOS linaro and TinkerOS android, video are playing at the good speed... So my questions are: 1) do we need a special video driver on Armbian for the ti…

I bought a Tinkerboard S and Tinker Aluminum case yesterday, but because of the case, it's Wifi function is almost non-exist, so I bought a TP-LINK TL-WN722N v2 two hours ago. I was hoping to get a V1, which has a lot of information on Wikidevi, and looks like it's going to work out-of-the-box, but I got a v2, and now I'm trying to get it to work. Wikidevi provided a link to driver repository, I downloaded main branch and type "make all" in terminal, it says /lib/modules/4.4.166-rockchip/build does not exist. I tried to search how to install kernel header and tried this command "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)", it doesn't work/help. …

Hello, I own a Tinker Board S (bought one or two years ago) attached to a Sony Bravia KDL 22EX320 TV by HDMI, which has a native resolution of 1388x768 pixels. Bionic desktop with kernel 5.4 (got from https://dl.armbian.com/tinkerboard/Bionic_current_desktop) didn't properly recognize the TV resolution, but set it to 1920x1024. If I run xrandr --props the resolution is not listed. I'm posting because I'm almost sure that the old TinkerOS 2.0.8 (that I installed with the board) recognized the TV resolution correctly - it anyway boots to desktop without requiring interaction, so not being able to read the text at the edges of the console …

Hello community, I am working on a multi-channel audio project using a Rock Pi S (Rockchip RK3308) running a modern Mainline Kernel (6.18.y-current-rockchip64). My hardware setup relies on a fixed wiring where the Master Clock (MCLK) is connected to Pin 7 (GPIO2_A4) and BCLK is connected to Pin 12 (GPIO2_A5) using the i2s_8ch_0 controller. The Goal: We want to keep the working I2S/TDM master device tree foundation but replace the old, silent dummy codec (linux,spdif-dit) with the actual internal hardware codec (rockchip,rk3308-codec), so that ALSA maps the channels correctly instead of routing them into a digital void. Note: W…

We are looking at replacing the raspi3b+ with the tinkerboardS (rockchip 3288) in an embedded system, running armbian (bionic-4.19). Initial tests show that OS stability, board performance and form factor make the tinkerboardS a good substitute for the raspi. However, one issue we have run into is a conflict with pin 32 of the GPIO which is used by the hostboard for managing output devices. We have tried to turn off serial2 by removing the UART2 overlay and adding 'console=display' in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and also disabling & masking serial-getty@ttyS2.service but that hasn't stopped pin 32 from being chatty when connected to the hostboard. Is…

Hi all, this is my first post here on the forum. I'm getting ready to wrap up for the night, but I recently purchased an Orange Pi 5 (non-B) to do some tinkering with. I downloaded the Bookworm XFCE variant as I am somewhat familiar with XFCE already. Anyway, upon initial testing, I thought my power supply wasn't good enough for the board. I wasn't getting any HDMI output. When I removed the micro-SD card and tried to boot it that way, an orange pi splash screen would show on the attached display, so I think the port actually works (?) I have a spare USB to TTL Serial adapter so I was able to verify the board was successfull…

Hello again, We're already aware of the existing issues with kernel 6 and the audio on the RK3308B. In this case, it fails again in the latest versions... Alsamixer detects the audio card and even shows it in arecord -L or arecord -l, but when trying to record, the error appears: "arecord: set_params:1416: unable to install hw params" The command applied is: arecord -c 2 -r 192000 -f S32_LE test.wav Although if I leave it without parameters to see what it does, it throws the same error, even if I specify the hardware... In the previous kernel (I think it was 6.12.11 (with the u-boot issue in the previous post), the audio worked per…

Hello! First, and foremost, how issue looks like: https://imgur.com/a/ZrPUi9t Initially I noticed this issue with Dell UP3017 (2560x1600) on Libre Computer ROC-RK3399-PC (post). However later I noticed this on fresh Armbian installations on NanoPC-T4 too (post). Later on I found that old Armbian installations on NanoPC-T4 is unaffected, probably because of older uboot (something from last Armbian 5.xx days) that already flashed on eMMC. Yesterday I compared a couple of old Armbian images (initially that was posted here) Armbian_20.05.7_Nanopct4_focal_current_5.4.49.img - issue is not reproducible, Armbian_20.08.2_Nanopct4_focal_current_5.8.6.img …

With a separate ext4 `/b…
