If I boot my Odroid XU4 without the HDMI cable connected, my HDMI display does not work. If I boot with the HDMI cable and monitor connected, the HDMI display works fine even if it is disconnected and reconnected. I am running debian buster. deb http://deb.debian.org/debian buster main contrib non-free I have compared the dmesg output from when HDMI works and does not work and do not see a difference. I did a apt upgrade that messed up my set up, so I have recently (as in two hours ago) reinstalled armbian on on my dragon q6a. Unlike the previous set up, I have not been able to connect to my wifi. Did a bit of a dance with AI help and still failed, but it looks like the wifi module is directly not found. nmcli device returns ``` DEVICE TYPE STATE CONNECTION enp1s0 ethernet unmanaged -- lo loopback unmanaged -- ``` lsusb returns Bus 001 Device 005: ID a69c:8d80 aicsemi AIC Wlan So I guess that's the wifi hardware and AI claims my system does not have the drivers.…

After more than six successful years with Helios4, I have to say goodbye to this platform and the highly valued, helpful, and knowledgeable Armbian forum. With 32-bit, it’s no longer feasible to continue using it in the future. I have installed the 4 8TB hard drives from the NAS into an Odroid H4+ (Intel, 64-bit), installed OMV8, and on top of that, Nextcloud-AIO Hub 26 Winter and AdGuardHome. Thank you very much for your support over the past few years. btw. The Helios4 hardware (excluding the hard drives) is still available.

I've just installed the default desktop image, flashed directly to my emmc using etcher. Everything seems to work ok, as far as I can tell. Using the date command, it has my local time as correct, but the clock in the taskbar or whatever its called at the top of the screen is about 6 hours ahead (gmt). How do I correct this? Also, how do I verify that video acceleration is functioning or not? How do I adjust the cpu freq gov and what is the default? I looked in the boot.ini file, but it says to set the environment variables in a file named /boot/armbianEnv.txt . This file doesnt exist, so I assume I'm just to touch it and then copy over the li…

So I tried switching my MMIO GPIO to /dev/gpiomem from /dev/mem and it doesn't appear to support the GPZ block https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/hardware/expansion_connectors#con_11_-_2x6_pins The address is 0x03860000. Hard Kernel's wiringPi doesn't seem to support this either. Should this be a question I ask Hard Kernel folks? https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/software/gpio_register_map

Hi community, Context I build my own custom Arabian image on arm 32bit (prod), and experimenting running the following armbian image configuration on Qemu with console/serial only support for uefi-x86 and uefi-arm64 boards to speed up development/test. Problem I stumble upon something odd: both "uefi-*" boards are configured to only run GRUB in gfxterm mode ONLY. BOARD: uefi-86 -> BOARDFAMILY="uefi-x86". -> UEFI_GRUB_TERMINAL="gfxterm" [0] BOARD: uefi-arm64 -> BOARDFAMILY="uefi-arm64". -> UEFI_GRUB_TERMINAL="gfxterm" [1] [0] https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/2afd8fe9bb…

Hi friends, I use armbian for long time, but these days I change my borad to RaspberryPi 4B. However I can not get kernel startup serial output from RPI as usual on the board. Does anyone has more information about that? What I want to do is a atonomy driving experiment environment. And I don't have monitor or keyboard attach to it. I will patch preempt_RT to get the RT linux kernel, so it's difficult for me to pull the RPI out of the test bench everytime and put back after setting the ssh or something everytime I flash new kernel or image. The armbian version I use is Armbian_23.11.1_Rpi4b_jammy_current_6.1.…

I know it is unsupported and all, but I just want to point out that running Ubuntu Focal(2020/05/03) with kernel 5.6 on Odroid MC1 has been destroying microSD cards. The board boots up fine, but after an apt-get update and a few minutes in, the Sandisk microSD card died and becomes read-only. I'm not sure if it is vendor-dependent, but I have tried out two new Sandisk microSD cards and they all turned read-only. This might be a kernel issue since on Debian Buster with kernel 5.4 or kernel 4.14 that never happened.

I selected accept and then took minuted to complete and enter the desktop First time I killed it and second clean i waited.:-) I checked in armbian-config the locales and noticed that ALL options were checked. Which makes sense why I waited so long If this a know bug or needs to be fixed? Just wanted to bring to your attention. Rest …

Hi, I am running Armbian on four HardKernel HC2's and everything is working perfectly. The four SBC's are running a Moosefs cluster running Ubuntu 18.04 and Armbian 5.85, and this leads to my questions: I am trying to decide whether to upgrade as apt is proposing moving to 5.89 The change log does not currently list 5.89 and shows 5.87 as the newest. Am I missing something? When I look at previous change logs it is difficult to decipher which fixes impact the HC2/HC1/XU4. Is there an easy way to tell? How do you decide when to upgrade? Is it even worth upgrading when running more mature boards like this one? My boards run insi…

Hey guys! I am running Armbian 22.05.3 on my Odroid XU4. Very happy with it. I just installed linux-image-edge-odroidxu4 (kernel 5.17) and rebooted. Everything hunky dory. However, once I'm on 5.17 I am unable to reboot by using the 'reboot' or 'shutdown -r now' commands, which worked on the default 5.4 kernel. Is this a known issue? Any hints on how to debug or any known workarounds? Thank you

Hi, the title says it all: this is the message I get when booting. I rebooted several times, to no avail: same message... The resizing did not seem to occur, as I don't have enough space to install a few packages. Looking at the armbianmonitor log, it seems that resize2fs is missing... Installing e2fsprogs then rebooting fixes the issue. It's on trixie Minimal / IOT image. Best regards. [Edit] typo: lof->log

A recent check of failed services showed me that following service failed: systemd-update-utmp-runlevel.service Checking via journalctl I see this: Failed to write utmp record: No space left on device So far I understood it has to do with the space for the logs being full, I can delete logs to make place. My question is, how could I have that done by default in an easy way? The message itself doesn't bother my that much but I guess there are no new logs created if there's no space which isn't ideal.

Hi all, I got my helios4 sometimes in 2019 and it was one of the best purchases I ever made. It has served and was solid as a rock. Unfortunately all that ended couple of days ago when I noticed the Helios was not powering up properly, think it was the power supply not connected well (because I just recently changed the location) I removed and fitted the PSU a couple of times, I could see the led light come on but still it would not boot properly. By the time I found out what the real problem is things had gone worse, the reason for the incomplete boot was the SD card has been removed. Unfortunately, it seems my constant removing and refitting the PSU to …

The board was up and running when suddenly I could not access the share anymore. I went near it and I was hearing some HDD clicking. I rebooted it from the console and when it came on, no storage was available. I could see some /dev/sd* but one HDD was missing from it and the lvm was not available anymore. Also all the HDDs where clicking and I was hearing a loud buzzing sound from the board. I rebooted it again, measured the PSU and even load tested it and it is fine, the same for the moled connectors, it was measuring 12V and 5V, but the truth was, the HDDs this time were not even detected. Took it all apart and booted it without any HDD connected and sur…

Hello all, I have installed the image "Armbian 23.02.0-trunk.0176 Lunar with bleeding edge Linux 6.1.6-bcm2711" on my two Raspi 4 systems. One system runs via cable and the other via WLAN. At the beginning there were some problems with the IPv6 - kernel, if "apt update" was executed. I got this problem under control with "disable ipv6".... Since then, both systems run flawlessly & without problems. With the implementation of GPIO you should fall back on an existing GPIO - version, which works in any case also under this image; also for 64bit. One small thing I would like to know very much, because on the system with the cable the…

BPI-F3 Introduction For this device, we can make an image using the Source Code: BananaPi_BPI-F3#_development Let's try to add support to the Armbian build system.

I noticed there's a community overlay module that adds a "first boot" script which, among other things, allows you to connect to wifi without ever connecting a monitor or keyboard. But, this overlap doesn't seem to come with the current raspberry pi 4b image (Armbian_23.5.1_Rpi4b_jammy_current_6.1.29.img). I tried downloading the build script, but I don't see an option to enable overlays in that either. Is this supported at this time? Also, I know I could just use raspbian if I want this feature, but I'm hoping to work with armbian because I want my build process to be reproducible on other boards.

Today I imaged 'Armbian_24.8.0-trunk.542_Rpi4b_noble_current_6.6.44_gnome_desktop.img' on to an SD card and then put it in my Raspberry Pi 4 GB. It booted up first time no issues and I went through the setup flow. I am using wired ethernet and was able to reach it remotely immediately. I installed all the updates. When I do "sudo shutdown -h -r now" on the command line (either via SSH or locally in the terminal) it does not reboot. The device stops responding to pings and no longer has HDMI output. If I power cycle the board once, it does not boot up. On the second power cycle it boots up. This seems really odd. Is this some known issue with the raspberry pi 4…

For marvell-mvebu build DRBD is not supported, the module is missing in either current and edge config a grep of CONFIG_BLK_DEV_DRBD in build/config/kernel from the git build repo shows that most boards have DRBD compiled as module except some few exceptions. One of these few exception is mvebu (ClearFog Base/Pro, ESPRESSObin, Helios 4). I don't understand why. DRBD is a very nice and secure block device which provides network block replication (raid over network), and it is widely used. DRDB compile and work flawlessly on helios4 with the mvebu kernel. But we are obliged to compile the kernel or only the module, which is somewhat painful. As I have …

Armbian_22.11.0-trunk_Rpi4b_jammy_current_5.15.73_xfce_desktop.img.xz Raspberry PI400 Viewsonic VP930 (1280x1024) I checked the sha-sum and flashed 2 times a Patriot SXDC-128GB-card. When I boot the PI400 the monitors LED changes from green (power on) to yellow (standbye) for half an hour, when I start the PI400. It looks like there is a problem with this old monitor which supports 1280x1024 only. Don't know, if the boot routine checks the monitor, but the green LED can stay for 2sec, sometimes for 30sec. BTW Xubuntu 22.04 with an SSD works fine with the same hardware.

@gprovost I described last year a process to upgrade from omv4 to omv5. (which is doable). I also did a clean install of omv5 after i was having random reboot issues using the newer kernel5. I ended up using the clean built and reconfiguring all the services and dockers. I do not recommend using the newer kernel if you are using dockers. This is where I would have random system reboots. OMV4 was very stable but since omv4 was eol. I decided to upgrade or do a clean install. I did both with the same random reboots using the newer kernel 5. Once i switched back to the older kernel with my config, I was not having the random reboot issues. I understand this would be ha…

Hey, the last time my Helios4's PSU blew I suspect was due to a power overload, with the PSU not being able to deal with all 4 HDDs doing active work (this also killed one of the HDDs in my array). Based on the system log, it looked like the system was doing a regular integrity checks on all 4 HDDs at once (!). I would like to either disable the integrity check altogether, or more ideally, spread it out. I have two RAID-1 arrays, and there is no reason for all four drives to be checked simultaneously. For example, I can check one of the arrays (two HDDs) and then once that is done, the second array (the other two HDDs) after. Does anyone know where…

The SBC was running but "dead". When I rebooted it by re-plugging power, instead of showing ~9:00 o'clock, the SBCs internal clock showed 02:17. Here are the last messages of the syslog before the SBC locked up: I should note that the SBC has been running 24/7 stable for weeks. …

I have a new odroid XU4 that I plan to use for Home Assistant in Docker and run other services in containers. I have loaded a fresh copy of Armbian cli (fully updated) with bluetooth from armbian-config. I'm using a USB-C PD power supply (Pine64 PinePower Desktop) to ensure sufficient power, yet it's still not recognized. The drive might be faulty. Has anyone successfully used an NVMe drive with this board? If so, could you share which NVMe drives are known to work with it? Hello all! I used the following armbian image to write to an SD (I'm using an old odroid HC1 btw): https://armbian.site-meganet.com/dl/odroidxu4/archive/ I used the bullseye_current image that was there. On the main download page it says that the file for Odroid XU4 is compatible with HC1, HC2 and MC1. https://www.armbian.com/odroid-xu4/ My odroid HC1 boots ok but any attempt to use the built-in ethernet port results in an instant lock-up. Only way I can "get into" the device is with a USB ethernet adapter although even just issuing a command, eg ifconfig enx001e06366b84 192.168.1.99 locks everything up - even the USB e…

Hi, I'm running into a problem I can't solve. On my new Odroid HC1 I'm trying to set up a SFTP with chroot, but no matter what I'm trying it doesn't work on Armbian (or OMV). Tried it multiple times with a clean Armbian (Armbian_5.59_Odroidxu4_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.66 - also tried the Bionic image) install, simply added a user, added the required lines to sshd_config but each time I get a "Broken Pipe" error. On the other side when I use the minimal Ubuntu image from Hardkernel.com the chroot SFTP works without a problem. But I would like to run Armbian. Has anybody been able to create a chroot for SFTP on a Odroid HC1/2? Could it be…

Hello, I am trying to install Armbian UEFI-x86 into this very small mini PC, but with secure boot enabled it only shows this screen: Disabling the secure boot isn't an option, because every time I turn it off and then turn it on the next morning, the BIOS settings are being reset, then the secure boot is enabled once again (I believe it is intentional, because the CMOS battery only keeps the clock & date). Moreover, I want to use it as a headless computer, so no keyboard will be attached. Is this fixable or Armbian isn't compatible with secure boot? Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I have a little problem with my i2c-screen on the Helios4. It was setup according to the Kobol-Wiki and was working right from the start. However after running for some time (in this example it took around 6 hours) the screen is black and empty. Once I SSH back into the helios and restart the systemd sys-oled.service, it works again for some time... Hi Guys, I tested both the odroid official and armbian images for the XU4. Both run well, but I prefer the armbian image. I have attached my 800x480 hdmi display, it works, but there's a purple line at the left side of the display. ( I think it's one pixel wide) This is not the case with the odroid official image, so I guess it's a configuration issue. I took a look at the boot. ini file, but I don't see anything that rings a bell. Can somebody point me to the right direction?

Hello everyone! After my Helios4 had been laying in a cardboard box for a long time after moving houses, I decided it was time to once again set it up as an NAS. I was previously running Open Media Vault (OMV) with 4 disks in xfs and using MergerFS for unionizing three of them at a single mount point and then using Snapraid for the fourth disk. OMV worked pretty well for me but I go somewhat irritated from time to times because how it decides to thing in it's own way. But now I when I re-installed it (after getting a new PSU) I went with Armbian instead to keep it closer to "standard" linux. I think I will still go with Merver…

I am trying to set up serial communications over the CON10 connector (UART0 pins 4,5,6,8) to another board (BeagleBone Black) to transmit data parsed as strings between the boards. Based on this link, this should correspond to /dev/ttySAC0. I have been unsuccessful in achieving communication via these pins and device node. I am using an odroid HC2 as home NAS for some years now. Software is armbian/XU4 in debian flavour. At the moment I am running bookworm (which was updated from buster to bullseye and then to bookworm - I know its not supported but it worked fine. And the problem described here started only some month after the last update). Some days ago I wanted to reboot the unit but it was stuck in the boot process. Not available by ssh or any other services. I then found out that the boot stopped because my hard disk could not be mounted from ftsab (while the sd card as root file system could be mounted). After commenting out the line it boots normally. And when logged in by ssh …

Hi, I'm considering reinstalling OpenMediaVault using an Armbian image as the NAS performance on the current image I use is very bad (4-7 megabyte via Samba over Gigabit) and I've heard that it should be much better with Armbian. Since I have some data on my NAS that's protected with Ecryptfs, I wonder if the kernel config in a future update could be changed to include Ecrypt_fs module support. Thanks for considering making this change. All the best, Sebastian EDIT: tkaiser from the openmediavault forum took care of this. Thanks!

Hi everyone. Just after a bit of advice before I take the plunge and boot up armbian on my Mi10 Pro. I'm using it currently as a modem, it's tethered to my Deco setup so its only used as a modem. Just wondering if anyone would be interested in running a helios4 NAS still today? Or maybe you might need a spare board as a potential replacement? I have a decommissioned one at home that has been replaced with an x86 machine. The helios4 still works just fine and it would be quite a waste to just throw it away. It is the full kit: Case, board, cables and power adapter. Happy to send it (I am based in Germany) to whoever wants it as long as you cover the cost. Please send me a direct message if interested, thanks!

hey there, I'm using an odroid xu4 with the cloudshell 2 with 2 drives in RAID1 and Armbian with Debian 9 Stretch as my OS, built via Vagrant 2 weeks ago. The /boot partition sits on a sd-card, the OS on the harddrive. I''ve copied both via dd on both devices(boot an card, rootfs on harddrive), and after the first boot it worked flawlessly, because the boot information uses the UUID, not the /dev path. After the first boot and configuration of another user and so on, I rebooted the system to let it resize the rootfs to extend it to 2TB, which is the size of the harddrive. But after this, it seems that cryptroot cannot decrypt the …

Hello, playing around with the HC1 I noticed the lack of the nbd driver within this image. Because of the good documentation and the excellent build chain system I was able quickly to build a installation image solving my needs. Environment Raspberry Pi 4B (headless) DietPi (recently installed) Armbian (previously used) Both systems use default settings Observations SSH login to DietPi is consistently faster than Armbian by a few seconds with default settings. Wanted to share my unfortunate experience today of trying to do a fresh install of a newer armbian version in order to accommodate OMV 5 on my Helios4. Was doing everything as usual and after the first boot from the new SD card tried to run armbian-config while still attached to the serial console. The exact same thing happened when I tried to reproduce the same steps. Should have been wiser and connected via SSH after inital boot to go from there. No such thing happened when running armbian-config via SSH for the first ti…

Please forgive me if it is a stupid question, but what is preventing us from keeping n previous kernels installed in case an update is broken and does not boot? Fedora does it, Ubuntu does too. In general it should be simpler to boot a previous kernel than to try to pull the SD card and fix it in a second machine.

Hello all, As I have often said, I am very satisfied with this LINUX implementation on the RASPI PI4 board. In the meantime, I noticed one small thing and that was somehow related to the 4GB version of my RASPI. I often had to record a KERNEL crash here; this did not happen under the 8GB version until now. But now to my actual question: How can I activate the CAMERA port under this Linux version so that I can connect a camera there? Best regards Z. Matthias
