RTL8852BE is the official recommended Wifi module for Orange Pie 5 PLUS, but it is not available in Armbian 24.5.1 Linux Vendor Kernel 6.1 without a driver module. Hope the official driver will be added to the 6.1 kernel. Thanks.

New Rock 5C work everything fine on Armbian 24 - bookworm stable release but only issue is that Wifi is not working on all stable release except Daily / Rolling releases. It seemed like something is misconfigure about wifi driver. You can see that I tested on both kernel 6.1.43 (stable) and latest edge and it's not working. But this daily release work like charm.

I installed latest vendor image and because of the wifi issues I switched to the edge kernel. I messed up my fstab, couldn't connect with ssh, so I plugged it to my monitor and a keyboard, but there was no video. Eventually, I fixed it by booting vendor image from my sd card, but I got curious. I know, that vendor image just works, so I flashed edge image to my sd card to see what's wrong. The monitor recognizes the presence of the board, but it's just a black screen. I can ssh to the board, so the image definitely booted, but there's just no video. Here's the log from my original installation. I kept 6.8 kernel because the video is not important to me.

I tested some stable armbian images. I want to use the Rock 5C as server, so no desktop is needed. Ubuntu is prefered. First I flashed `Armbian_24.5.1_Rock-5c_noble_vendor_6.1.43.img.xz` wich doesn't work. Log from first boot is attached at the bottom. Second I flashed `Armbian_24.5.1_Rock-5c_noble_edge_6.8.10.img.xz` wich is working well. SSH comes up as usual. Would be nice to use the vendor kernel (6.1.43) instead of the bleeding edge (6.8.10) one, because it is not reccommend and not all features are working. I OCR a screenshot from first boot with `Armbian_24.5.1_Rock-5c_noble_vendor_6.1.43.img.xz` Welcome to Armbian 24.5.1 noble!…

I lost whole day yesterday to try boot with new images from Armbian download page - kernel 6.1 / kernel 6.8 bookworm/trixi and none boots... If I take Ubuntu or Debian image I have no problem to boot from. Do you have the same?

playing around with armbian-config after switiching to vendor kernel - missing "toogle hardware configuration" Left is on (previous legacy vendor) kernel with "24.5.1 and right is legacy kernel with "24.2.1"" Just curious if anyone know why that is? Perhaps I should have taken other steps when switching to vendor kernel(I have rebooted and confirmed it is running vendor kernel prior to screenshot)

Can you help me with the contents of the file name? I understand edge, vendor, but then there are other suffixes that are not clear to me: are gnome-oibaf_desktop the same "kernel release" as the xfce_desktop or minimal? Or there are patches that are applied only to a specific version? Thanks!

I tried both the 6.8.10 and 6.1.43 releases from CI pipeline and none of these has the ap6275p wifi option in the armbian-config tool. There was a previous post that mentioned that the module got merged for the new kernels but is there an ETA to have this one in the CI releases? I'm curious to try vlc but haven't been able to install that one yet with the new releases.

Hi Referring to https://forum.armbian.com/topic/32667-usb-c-port-doesnt-work-on-pinebook-pro-after-the-latest-update-on-kernel-662/ USB -C is not working. I also tried 6.7.4-edge with no success. Looking for a solution G??gle found this: https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-arm-108/pinebook-pro-usb-c-port-not-working-after-kernel-upgrade-4175732886/#google_vignette referring to Megi`s 6.7 kernel. The link was outdated, but the base worked and had versions 6.8 and 6.9. Tried both with a lot of success: USB-C working and the HDMI monitor output as well as Gigabit Ethernet work like a charm again. 😄 The only small issue remaining: Sound is not w…

Hi I installed a nvme SSD to my rockpro64 (with a generic PCIe adapter card). Somehow it only uses a x1 link instead of x4. I also observed the same behaviour with a x2 SATA card (only x1 link established). Hi there Suddenly HDMI output stopped working on my orange Py 5. I've been using the board with an external monitor for a month but on the next boot HDMI connection disappeared. external display using type-c output works fine; I've already tried several HDMI cables and monitors - no results; no visual damages detected on the board; flashing image doesn't help; The system is Armbian 24.2.1 jammy OS with GNOME version 42.9. Any ideas what next steps should I do to find out whats happen?

I'm using a few Libre Computer Renegades as headless servers, and they're working well (thank you!), but I'm wanting to set one up for personal use, and I've discovered that when I plug headphones into the analog audio jack, the left and right channels are reversed. It seems that the HDMI output does not have any option beyond 1080P. Tried multiple monitors. The font size at uboot stage seems right but the resolution maxed out at 1080P after kernel starts. Tried Armbian 24.2.1 with 6.6.16. Could be related with this: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/rk3399-hdmi-output-for-resolutions-different-than-1080p/90644. but patches should be applied at Kernel 6.4: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-6.4-imx25-Rockchip-4K Attached is the screenshot when connected with DELL 25inch monitor. Should have 2K option. diagnoses: https://paste.armbian.com/gaketoluye Thank you

I have some problem starting Linux image with my OPi 5+. I just got an OPi 5+ 16Gb RAM no eMMC. I flashed official Android image into SD card with SDDiskTool following the instruction in wiki. It worked. Then I do the "Data Reset" in Android Settings. The board doesn't boot anymore. I re-flashed Android into the SD, and it worked again. Then, I want to try Linux. I flashed Joshua Riek ubuntu-22.04.3-preinstalled-desktop-arm64-orangepi-5-plus.img.xz into the same SD with balenaEtcher. It doesn't boot. I tried again with Armbian_24.2.1_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.160_gnome-amazingfated_desktop.img.xz and official Ubuntu image as well. None of them ma…

Hey everyone, I'm starting to lose my mind here. I've got an Orange Pi 5 which works great with a micro SD card. Now I got myself a nvme ssd and all I want to do is move my system from the sd card to the ssd. I've created an image of the sd card on my PC using "dd" and then wrote it on the ssd using dd again. It seemed to work fine, the only issue seems to be, that the UUID of the partitions on the ssd were the same as on the sd card, that's why I changed the UUID of the root partition on the ssd using "tune2fs -U random /dev/nvme0n1p2". I booted up the Pi with my sd card again and used armbian-config to flash mtdblock0 (boo…

Before writing I searched the forum a bit but couldn't find any recent posts about it. I have an OPI5 board and on NVME I would like to install armbian. I downloaded the image to micro sd and it boots fine. At this point I don't know what to do because I had to waste a lot of time on it some time ago and I don't remember the steps. With the armbian-config utility is it possible to clone the armbian release I am using on the micro sd? I remember that this wasn't possible some time ago. I would like to know specifically the steps to take and whether it is advisable to delete any old partitions on nvme. Thank you

I've noticed that some system images will start the OrangePi with 4:2:2 output on HDMI instead of 4:4:4. This causes artifacts, especially when there's white text on a red background. What's the interface or method to change this? Does this have to be done via U-Boot or can it be done in userspace?

I've compiled mainline kernel 6.6 which runs well on my OrangePi/RK3399. The only problem left is getting H.264 decoding working. Unfortunately, when I query /dev/video1 which is the node created by the hantro-vpu driver, only MPEG2 and VP8 are shown as supported codecs for decoding. No H.264, even though I've read many places that the mainline hantro driver supports H.264. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something else I need to do to get this working?

In March 2023 I bought an OPI5 and immediately went for armbian, but I had problems and reported it in the link in this POST. in 2024: I bought the SD cards and other power supply directly from the manufacturers to see if the OPI5 works. Before throwing OPI5 in the trash, I downloaded "nightly builds (unstable)" and installed it on an nvme and... it works without problems, I've had no problems for 13 days. Sorry, don't have the Armbianmonitor info handy but wanted to get this started... I'm trying to bring up a Libre Renegade RK3328-CC for use as a media center. What information I have gathered so far: …

Hi all, reporting a regression in new Armbian 24.2.1 kernel version. New kernel is causing Orange Pi 4 LPS not to boot most of the time, when it boots, then there is no network. Kernel hangs with oops errors on the screen, and all debugging stuff. Sorry that I did not caught any of them on my phone, but it would have been incomplete anyway. How to reproduce: Install any 24.2.1 based system on Orange Pi 4 LTS Upon first boot, you will have issues. No Ethernet network. Second boot will most likely not succeed no matter what you do and system will brick permanently, by not booting at all (no video output), or booting and then showing kernel crash. …

I've found information on how to use your own IR remote controller from this site: https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=215&t=44671 In short: 1. Enable logging from the IR kernel module, enter in a terminal: sudo -i echo 1 > /sys/module/rockchip_pwm_remotectl/parameters/code_print dmesg -w 2. Check if your remote is supported by pressing the keys on your remote. It should give you info like: [ 3485.342354] USERCODE=0xfb04 [ 3485.369309] RMC_GETDATA=fd 3. Download the overlay file below and edit the usercode and the code for each key. So for like with the key above it'll be 0xfd 4. Place the header f…

I have also tried to reduce the bs=10 speed but still the same. Now i have also got the 16GB version and this works fine with no issues... Good chance there is something wrong with this latest hardware..…

I just installed with the latest KDE image, but I'm able to reproduce this with any of the images available. After going through the initial configuration, wifi works great. I updated apt and upgraded everything. Then I installed the armbian-firmware-full package. After rebooting wifi still works. Then I setup Bluetooth for my mouse and keyboard. They work correctly. After rebooting I no longer see any networks to connect to for wifi. If I disable Bluetooth and reboot wifi works again and so does Bluetooth. Is this an issue of daemons or drivers loading in the wrong order?

I found this article about how to recover the situation: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/11125/lvm-devices-under-dev-mapper-missing While in rescue mode I ran the suggested command vgchange -a y <name of volume gr…

So I was messing around with my new OrangePi-5+ and installed the EDK2 UEFI firmware for Rockchip RK3588 platforms onto the SPI flash (/dev/mtdblock0). After which I tried all sorts of images and kernels with varying success, only the 5.10.160-legacy-rk3588 kernel would really have a working display. Until I tried a generic UEFI arm64 image (Jammy-CLI on a USB stick) which gave a working display, albeit at 1080p max. (my monitor is 4K) with no acceleration (after the extra steps), and installed the Mate desktop (just my preference). The big caveat is that it does not recognize the SD-card, EMMC or SPI-flash, just regular drives (e.g. sda/nvme0n1 etc) and I'm…

I built armbian using the branch 23.11 with legacy-kernel 5.10.160 for use as a Nextcloud server. Version: Armbian-unofficial 23.11.0-trunk Bullseye \l . 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx After running sudo apt upgrade there were a few packages which were being upgraded successfully from 23.11.0-trunk to 23.11.1. Unfortunately the package armbian-bsp-cli-orangepi5-plus-legacy cannot be upgraded to 23.11.1 due to the base-files still being on 23.11.0-trunk. The system is running fine though. $ sudo apt update && sudo apt list --upgradable Hit:2 http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye InRelease Hit:3 http://deb.debian.org/debian bullseye-updates InRe…

Hi guys. I have been using a RockPro64 as a miniserver for many years. It runs stable most of the time. I have assigned it a host name "ab2" via armbian-config. It usually responds well to this alias. Only from time to time it happens that it no longer responds to the hostname. Only a reboot helps. Do you have any idea what this could be? PS Thanks for your great work! Sem

Hi, I've been running Armbian legacy server on my 5+ for a month now. I had trouble initially with my EMMC not booting, but I discovered, I had to wipe the SPI Nor then using Armbian config to flash it, then write to EMMC. When a new version of Armbian comes out for the 5+ and it may be a 6.8 kernel build, will I need to re-flash the SPI before I can install the newer version of Armbian (or another image from that's not Armbian?) before updating the EMMC. I found the steps on the Radxa site insightful for a general overview of SPI Nor and flashing (I understand it not an OPi5 x board), but it's not clear to me if a different OS will ne…

Hi, I have orange pi 5. I searched all over internet for information how to set on startup/power on GPIO pins behavior, but i cannot find anything. Most of GPIO pins are set to IN mode 1. Sadly I need them to output mode 1. I am scared something could burn this way since i set them to though wiringPI after kernel boot sequence is complete. Can some one give information how I can set them up at earlier point when I power on the board? I found that DTB/DTS file could do it. But there is no clear information / pin addresses I should set. Thanks in advance! Regards!

I'd like to congratulate you for a great release (24.2.1) with KDE! I was looking for a guide to install KDE in a minimum version, but I could not trim it down enough, and this release solved my issues. Everything is working smoothly, video acceleration is there, Wi-Fi (AX210) is there, bluetooth is there! A real pleasure to use. Best, team!

I have been working on rk3328 (kernel 6.1) based board recently and have been trying to bringup wifi RTL8723AS module using rockpi-e image. As there is no direct support available for this module I have tried to cloning it from github and building it but it gives compilation errors. Hence I referred to drivers available in the kernel and found one for the module similar to that of my module (RTL8723BS), cross verified through user manual and datasheets and build it using armbian. The driver gets built properly and even initializes upon powerup but it isn't getting into probe. The wifi is interfaced through SDIO to the board. Any idea what might b…

I have a custom PCIe x4 lane card that I'm trying to integrate with a RockPro64 SBC. This custom card has been tested with many users on different platforms including a linux x86 system. When I try this card in a RK3399 system, I get a strange result when I view the assigned address space with the lspci command. It appears the address assigned is the exact value of the BAR address size for each BAR. If I change the BAR size the assigned address changes to that value. Below is a dmesg dump along with a lspci output for my device. Device is [ad00:001e]. Any guidance? dmesg: [ 2.395091] rockchip-pcie f8000000.pcie: host bridge /pcie@f8000000 ranges: [ …

Needed/wanted to add Bluetooth to my OPi5 and also needed WiFi at the same time. Did not want to use 2 USB ports so I tried the T2UB. Working well. Bluetooth appeared on my Armbian Ubuntu Jammy setup and I plugged in the dongle. It saw a few of my bluetooth devices. Reason I wanted bluetooth is to use a controller for some games/emulators. I'll make another post for that. My PS4 Dualshock controller is not showing up in the list of devices. My version is an older version, Armbian 23.06.420 Jammy with Linux 5.10.160-rk35xx No end-user support: built from trunk Conclusion: TPLink T2UB should work properly on Armbian Ubuntu desktop.

On a fresh install from the website on kernel 6.1 bookworm/Jammy when rebooting the board a kernel panic occurs and the device will not boot unless power cycled. This was not the case even a few months ago on a 6.6 edge kernel. I also tried the current edge 6.7 kernel and the board wouldn't boot at all not that I expected it to. The board says 3308B on the chip(samsung memory) and ive also tried two different micro sd. Anyone else having this issue? Serial output is below of the relevant failure Thanks for anyone willing to look. Update: Reboot works fine on rockpi-s ordered more recently late 2023 with non-samsung ram mo…

I want to share some information about an issue that I see on my OPi5+. Since I got it I am messing around with it and everything works great so far with the edge 6.7 kernel. One thing I noticed though was, that right after installation with nothing connected and when idle, there was one kernel process that was constantly consuming around 10% CPU time and the load stays at 1. The process was irq/136-hym8563. The number varies of course after each boot. Kernel driver is rtc_hym8563. Since it is build into the kernel I was not able to unload it as a first test. Side node, the issue is not seen on the Rock5b, so it seems OPi5+ hardware specific. Even if bot…

and, BTW, this will probably work on any SBC that has pwm and working port of wiringPi (wiringOP is much simpler than the dtbo method, IMO) WHY: I don't like fans that run full speed ALL the time pwm fans are a bit limited on the ground in small size, and expensive The SBC has pwm pins, so why not use them none of the examples I have found are adequate, either gpio off/full or excessive python scripts, 40 lines or more,, the bash script is ~ 10 lines Some of the wiringOP/gpio packages don't work (ubuntu-full desktop) try the commands in rc.local, if they don't work, then,,, dpkg -l |grep wiring; apt remove ..... git clone https://github.com/orangepi-x…

I installed Armbian 23.11 Bookworm Kernel 6.1, Size: 482Mb, Release date: Nov 30, 2023. After installation, a CH340 based board was connected to my original Tinkerboard and recognized. Subsequently, I used armbian-config to provide the default desktop (Cinnamon flavor). Thereafter, the CH340 board is incompletely recognized. Specifically, no device is presented as /dev/ttyUSB?. The device appears in the list from lsusb, the kernel module ch341.ko loads, but no device in /dev. The forum search shows a previous instance of a similar issue many years back. Hello people, Happily running Bookworm, because it was the mainstream download for OPI5 a few months ago, I now see that the main download for OPI is back to Jammy. Apart from hardware accceleration, Bookworm runs great for me. In fact HA is not crucial for my server usage, though it would be nice. Question: what is the reason the main OPI5 download is now back to Jammy in stead of Bookworm? And what would be the advantages of going back from Bookworm to Jammy? (Got the aluminium passively cooling case for the OPI5, so far it's been great, 10 minutes of stresstesting all 8 cores doesn't get above 70 degrees celsius. For reference my…

Hello, i'm using Armbian 23.11 Jammy-amazingfated Gnome. Kernel 5.10 If to seek a couple of times in h264 1080p BD remux'es it will cause system restart. Any video players are affected. Hello, as already mentioned in topic USB C port doesn't work after upgrading to the latest kernel 6.6.2 . The previous problem with not working left usb 3 port persist no more. Everything is fine. As I remember , before update the usb c port has worked with the adapter and the devices like mouse, usb flash etc. Now it doesn't work any more, furthermore it gives no signal of life. There is 0 amps current measured, also dmesg -W gives no output at all after plugging in the device. PS: I was unable to upload the report file, also the service paste.armbian.com doesn't work at the moment.

Hello everyone! I was struggling to make wiring work on OrangePi 5 Plus armbian. Tried everything and came up with a solution that worked for me. I was constantly getting these errors: wiringPiSetup: mmap (PWM) failed: Operation not permitted wiringPiSetup: mmap (GPIO) failed: Operation not permitted I'm on 23.8.2. 1. Install armbian and update apt sudo apt update 2. As stated in OrangePi5Plus wiki page I got .deb installer for wiringPi on OrangePi Now here's the link to this file: https://github.com/orangepi-xunlong/orangepi-build/blob/next/external/cache/debs/arm64/wiringpi_2.51.deb 3. The mos…

When connected to some PC monitors, the image is larger than the physical screen: about 20 pixels at the top and bottom sides, and 50 pixels at the right and left sides are missing. This happens as soon as the board boots (without logo), the start of lines are truncated, and this also happens on text ttys (Ctrl + Alt + F1..6). I guess it's about a boot env variable, but I could not find it.

This image works OK, and we now have both a 6.7 kernel AND graphics. Minor issues: EzCast stupid windows Wifi adapter does not plug and play. The vertical USB port does not sense plugging in a device (Wifi) Good work, Gullik

Hi, I've had my 5+ for a week now and tinker with it when I can. Some things I've noticed... Using Amrbian legacy 5.10 legacy.... the system draws about 2.2w idle using a USB meter and no peripherals attached. When using the trying the latest 24.2.0-trunk.79, the power draw increases to 3w idle. I also noted the LED flickers between green and red rather than blue and red with legacy. My guess is more peripherals are being enabled. When using legacy, the first time i run an apt-get update there are 39 'gets'. When I then added a launchpad ppa and run again I only get 6. Not sure why that is. I cannot get…

Hello , looking to upgrade from SBC Rock64 to RockPro64< however, on the homepage it is mentioned, that https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/ROCKPro64_Software_Releases Since my Rock64 is running aready Linux kernel 4.4 and i am looking to upgrade, both from Rock64 and from SDcard to eMMC, my question, if this limitation still applies to RockPro64 with newer editions of Armbian, also since there is no mention of it on the official Armbian Page for RockPro64 https://www.armbian.com/rockpro64/ Thank you very much

Hello, sorry if this has been answered somewhere else. I was just wondering how i upgrade my Orange Pi 5 running Arbmian 23.11.1 Bookworm w/ Linux 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx to the latest Kernel. I tried using `sudo armbian-config` and updating via that with kernel upgrades unfrozen but it doesn't seem to work. Is there something I'm missing? Hi, I'm pretty new to this forum may be I will ask some already answered questions, but here they are: I just had a new orangepi 5 plus card and I failed to use the "buses": - I2s: didn't find anywhere how to activate it (i'm trying a dac as a soundcard). Didn't find the hifiberry-dac overlay neither (ok maybe this one is just for raspberry). - spi: I plugged a simple mcp3008 to the spi pins but can't read anything on it (i have the /dev/spidev0.0/1 and /dev/spiddev4.0/1 devices). I think I respected the rights pins. - i2c: when I activate the overlays in armbianEnv.txt, I can see a lot of messages every seconds with dmesg about rk-hdmi. Ma…
