I'm using Armbian on a Tinker Board S. I did the installation back when the 4.4 kernel was still the default one. I expected that I'd get the newer 4.19 kernel by using 'apt update && apt dist-upgrade' at some point as it would become the new stable. This does not seem to be the case however, as I see the new downloads use 4.19 by default, but the stable package still points to a 4.4 kernel. Is it recommended to just move up by installing the kernel package with the next suffix or are there still reasons to wait with upgrading?

Hello, I'm having issues with my Orange Pi 4 LTS. I cannot get any HDMI output at the moment. Neither with the Debian flashed on the eMMC, or with Armbian running of the SD card. In both cases I can SSH into the Orange and run commands normally. The HDMI worked just a day before, but in the meantime I was flashing different systems and it stopped working. I tried different monitors and cables. Any ideas what can I do?

Hello, I'm quite new to SBC and linux. On one hand I'm learning a lot, but on the other hand I'm struggling to make it work as I would like. I already have a low performance Zimaboard (just 2GB Ram) that I use as a NAS and I want the ROCK 5 ITX 8GB to be used as a general purpose apps server for home automation, streaming music, listening music, etc. One of my use case I'm playing with is the following: 1) music files are on the NAS 2) Music files are played from the Rock5 ITx via the speakers plugged into the headphone jack, 3) The music player is controlled remotely using Lyrion Music Server + Squeezelite. I've already tested t…

Hello, I have Rock Pi S V13 and Armbian 23.8.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.1.50-current-rockchip64. When I change CPU settings (min frequency, max frequency, scaling governor) using armbian-config, the change works correctly as expected. However, these settings are lost on reboot. When I check the status of cpufrequtils service, it seems that it does not load correctly as it is not able to find the requested governor: But if I start it manually later, it seems to load all my settings correctly: Any ideas to fix the problem except manually reloading it later? armbianmonitor: https://paste.armbian.com/owoluf…

I was able to install the latest Armbian/Ubuntu-Resolute 26.8.3 image on my Orange Pi 5 Plus without a lot of fanfare. It took a bit of hunting around to find the correct process to get the image written to an SD card with the new Armbian Imager and then push that image to my emmc storage after it booted, but it was rather painless otherwise. It seems to work without any issues on my 2.5GB/10GB network and is acting as my home Jellyfin media server for now. It was doing that before running Ubuntu 24.04 with a an older 6.1 kernel from the vendor. Zero complaints with the old setup, but I wanted a newer and better supported kernel build given all the excitement around t…

I followed a guide to install a system on my Rockpro64 but something happened where I had to reinstall it. At first, the card was recognized as a Mass Storage, I used usb_modeswitch to make it recognized as a wifi card, but iwconfig still didn't show this card, and /sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211 did exist, but was empty. I don't think it's a driver issue because when I plugged this card into my debian laptop, it worked even without usb_modeswitch. journalctl and lsusb logs are in the files. journalctl.log lsusb.log

Hello, I have experimented with a Realtek USB 2.5Gbe USB Ethernet dongle and find that it works fine with the vendor kernel but not with kernels 6.12.x or 6.18.y. I have included an iperf3 example below, you can see that the dongle manages a few runs at high speed before it quietly fails and seizes up. I use a number of these dongles and they tend to work fine on other set-ups. I have an Orange Pi 5 Plus 16GB board, revision "1.3.1". I've been using it for about a year with official Armbian, Vendor kernel 6.1. The only issues I noticed were a non-working Type-C port and FAN connector. I thought it was an OS or DTS (Device Tree) bug... But it turned out to be a hardware problem. It started when I got another Orange Pi 5 Plus 8GB board for repair (needed to resolder the Type-C power connector). Same revision "1.3.1". Alright, the biggest issue with the ASUS Tinkerboard being "resolved", I'm starting to take care of the VPU driver, in order to use it with mainline kernels. The hardware video encoding/decoding facilities are the real meat of the RK3288, and recent Rockchip boards. The VPU driver aims to use these facilities in order to provide the smooth video playback experience that every Netflix/Hulu addict expects when buying such boards. Which mean, once this part dealt with, you might be able to enjoy your Multimedia oriented distributions/softwares on your Rockchip boards (MiQi, Tinkerboard and maybe Pine64 too !) So the driver is already …

Hi everyone, New to the forum, so apologies if the questions are answered elsewhere, but please redirect me if they are. I have identified a bug in the `armbian-install` script in the current Bullseye Edge image (Dec 19,2022) that prevents it showing NVMe targets in the installation prompt if they don't have a valid filesystem on them. This appears to have been fixed on the 19th of December in this commit (the grep for filesystems was removed from the lsblk command that returns valid partitions). https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/893ed2347d97af574becf69dee1166a1bf933081#diff-8752ea87e0340f217187b70f7b08735d872a14c0467d02a6285222e594db3299L63…

Hello, running Armbian_22.11.2_Odroidm1_bullseye_edge_6.1.0.img.xz + updates. I saw in other post (/topic/17418-cameras-with-rock-pi-4-c/😞 But I do not see any Hardware menu in System. I had a look to armbian-config and saw that there is a lot of device-specific code and probably odroidm1 is not supported yet. Also I searched for some DTB that may work, but none is shipped with the current kernel: is empty. Should I add explicit support like in this patch: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/1482/files? Or there are more modern way to add cold-pluggable hardware? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Hi, i get a probleme with the actual uart acces config by default on Uart2 (pin 32, 33), because i need to use PWM pin (use to set motor speed with a L293D) and on the board only pin 32, 33 can be use with PWM. Now i am using 32 33 pin as PWM but if the cable on these pin is connected the board doesn't boot, maybe because the uarts of u-boot use these pin and the result of un connected cable to my setup = Critical fail. When i remove the cable on pin 32 the board boot. So i need to solve that because i don't want to disconnect this cable at each start and i want to use uarts with this setup. I need to change uart2 to uart1 or find a way to get PWM or a other pin option …

with clean install of armbian plus those 4 lines to install hardware acceleration glmark2-es2 gives score of about 800-900, about less then 25% of performance opi5 is capable. is it possible to raise that a bit, not all the way but just a bit more without instaling gnome or wayland, just to keep armbian as clean as its possible. as it is, its stable but barely(they do run) able to run 4k youtube oe 4k mkv, as soon as there is gnome and wayland it starts to crash, joshua rieks version, monka, armbian with all the drivers, any i tried it would crash eventualy.

G’day guys, just grabbed a version of Armbian again to play around with on an orange Pi 5 I have had for a while. I have installed the latest stable (25.5.1 Noble Gnome). I followed the process for erasing the MTD, but still I got error messages relating to no spi image. I tried to boot from the ssd and just got a black screen. Hello, I've recently bought a rock 5B plus. I have a brand new crucial P310 nvme 1TB with the goal to boot from it. As the title says, sometimes the nvme drive is properly detected, sometimes not. (Everytime the controller is visible in lspci, but only sometimes shows in lsblk). When the drive is properly detected, I can write to it and it works fine, without issues. I've noticed that it is more likely to be detected on a cold boot (ie. if I turn off the power and come back the next day, the first time it will probably show up). I have the official radxa 65w PD power adapter (although I've also tried a lot more during the proc…

Hello there. At present I power my Tinker Board S with a bench power supply set to 5.25V. The power supply has 10A current limiter. I measure the voltage at the GPIO pins using a 6.5 digit multimeter (in cal). The micro usb cord is 1.2 meters (4 feet). When the board is running in tinker os at idle, it is drawing 500mA, and i read 5.00V on the GPIO. But when I load the CPU using sysbench the current spikes to 1.6A, and the voltage measured on the GPIO drops to 4.45V. I measured that the micro USB cable is 0.37Ohm resistance, so about 0.55V of that power drop is due to the micro usb cable. That means all of the voltage drop is not due to the power c…

Hi, I got my RockPro64 board several days ago, and got *UPSTREAM* kernel (v5.1-rc5) and uboot (v2019.04) running on it using Archlinux ARM. (Sorry guys, I like upstream and Alarm more) The pull request for uboot-rockpro64 can be found here: https://github.com/archlinuxarm/PKGBUILDs/pull/1691 The upstream kernel is in the official core repor of Archlinuxarm (and that's why I like Alarm so much). Hi all, I'm running Armbian 4.19 (both stable kernel 5.77 and nightly) on an TinkerBoard S. I'm trying to connect a 3.2inch resistive Touch Display to SPI2. Hello all! I have a radxa rock 5b (8GB, not the plus version) and am running armbian (bookworm) on it. The kernel version (uname -r) reports as 6.12.32-current-rockchip64. By and large almost everything seems to be working - video playback in VLC is fine, 3d acceleration is working (I get around 58-60fps in the game 'torcs' as an example). The only thing I can't seem to get working (and can't find much about it) is the hdmi input. I see some five devices listed in dev (from /dev/video0 to /dev/video4) although none of these seem to relate to the hdmi input. Does the hdmi input work on the 5b under armbian at all? thanks …

Hello, I am the author of a home automation platform (RaspberryMatic) which is targeted for embedded platforms like RaspberryPi or Tinkerboard. I am regularly following Armbian kernel and u-boot updates for the Tinkerboard and integrate them into my buildroot-based environment so that recent kernel and u-boot versions can be used. I have already updated my environment to kernel 4.14.x and U-boot 2018.05 using the great armbian patchset from GitHub (Thanks for the hard work to get all the Tinkerboard S related issues sorted out recently). What I am currently trying to achieve is to get the Tinkerboard to use a different set of standard gpio settings…

I've noticed a funny thing on 23.11.0-trunk.244, trixie edge. If I use netplan to change the names of the network interfaces, they disappear on the next reboot - linux no longer detects them at all. dmesg will show: ``` rockchip-dw-pcie a40c00000.pcie: Phy link never came up rockchip-dw-pcie a41000000.pcie: Phy link never came up ``` The interfaces will disappear from lspci. Any hint on what's causing this?

I can't seem to get UART to work on Radxa Zero 3W System info https://paste.next.armbian.com/savaleceqe The usual enable UART options (that I see with other boards) do not show up under armbian-config->System->Kernel->Manage Device Tree Overlays. I did decompile /boot/dtb/rockchip/rk3566-radxa-zero3.dtb to take a look at what in their, and UART1,2,3,4,5,6,7 along with other missing options armbian-config are their, but the references to other files look to be missing IF (and that's a big IF) I am understanding the dtb / dts correctly. Running Armbian Desktop stable 4.14y my Tinkerboard sees the WiFi network but refuses to connect. I slowly convinced myself that I wanted a PineBook Pro, some time after the first production run. But then COVID, parts shortages, etc. happened and they were not available again until about mid-2022. But when they were, I decided to snap one up. And since then I have not been able to get it to boot Armbian. It came from the factory with Manjaro, which for me being a Debian guy, might as well be useless. So the PBP sat around collecting dust. Since then I have tried a few times to get it to work. I read many forum posts, tried some things. I won't document all that in detail. In this post, I will continue from where I left off her…

Hello, I have roughly 30 Orange Pi 5 here in the office setting up for deploying in the field. NVMe boot is working great after using 'nand-sata-install' to flash the MTD. Was using my Orange Pi 5 and it rebooted on it's own. After that, it continually reboots. Been running fine for months. Tried restarting a few times. Tried swapping SD cards. It looks like the power supply is OK, although I'll try swapping with another. I had just backed up the SD Card too. I'll try re-imaging an SD card, but I'm thinking the SD card may not be the issue. I hooked up my UART and captured output. At the end of each loop, it looks like it's saying "Starting Kernel" and then restarting. Captured output follows. Any ideas, suggestions or comments on what's happening. I'm thinking it's probably a hardware issue. I …

Hi, trying to get a bit deeper into Armbian, I tried to create my own minimal Trixie-based image for the RockPI-S. I'm using a Ubuntu Noble VM and I managed to run a successfull build following the quick start guide. However, creating an image using ./compile.sh build BOARD=rockpi-s BRANCH=current BUILD_MINIMAL=yes KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no RELEASE=trixie leads to an image with a size around 1.5GB. Compared to the downloadable minimal images, which have 200MB-300MB, this is quite large. Does anyone has any hints on how to proceed in order to self-build images comparable to the ones offered for download? Cheers,

The NPU on the ODROID-M1 can execute ordinary quantized TFLite models through the standard TFLite delegate mechanism, on a fully open stack: the `accel/rocket` kernel driver (with local fixes) plus the Mesa Teflon delegate. An application loads a regular .tflite file — no model-conversion step, no proprietary runtime. Image classification (mobilenet v1/v2, resnet18) and object detection (yolov8n) work today, and other convolutional networks take the same path. This complements the vendor-stack setup from [the DKMS topic](https://forum.armbian.com/topic/58036-odroid-m1-npu-fully-working-on-armbian-618x/), on the same board. What runs, measured against CPU-only TFLite …

Hi there, I'm really happy with Armbian on my Oprange Pi 5 Plus but recently I noticed that I'm not getting kernel updates so often as before. I use rockchip-edge branch and I'm stuck at kernel "6.18.0-rc6-edge-rockchip64". I know there are new versions being tested (https://github.com/armbian/os/pkgs/container/os%2Fkernel-rockchip64-edge), will they be released to armbian? Maybe you are working hard on Armbian version 26.2 and I'm just anxious Thanks in advance!

I have a RK3588 (Radxa Rock 5C) system running Armbian Debian Trixie. I have the heatsink and the fan installed as well. I set the fan PWM to 255 as soon as temperature reaches 50 degrees via a systemd service. When using all 8 cores, the system overheats (>110 degrees) and eventually shuts down. For example, when compiling ffmpeg, it works fine with 'make -j6', but 'make -j8' results in a shutdown before compilation is complete. Likewise I had thermal issues when using llama.cpp. Shouldn't the OS throttle the CPU when temperature reaches high levels? I think that is not happening at the moment. Online search referred me to cpufrequtils to …

``` May 21 21:53:26 rpc.idmapd[21345]: main: fcntl(/run/rpc_pipefs/nfs): Invalid argument May 21 21:53:26 systemd[1]: nfs-idmapd.service: Control process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE ``` The rpc.idmapd version in Debian is still ancient (as with many things in debian) and still requires dnotify but the armbian kernel for the orange pi 5 build ``` $ grep -i dnotify /boot/config-5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588 # CONFIG_DNOTIFY is not set ``` It looks like bookworm will likely fix this when it's out, so maybe the right thing to do is simply move to bookworm asap but this does prevent the ability to fully support nfsv4 with…
I run a audio loop code on a Raspberry pi 4/5 and Orange Pi 5. The latency of audio loop is 0.2 seconds on Raspberry pi but on orange pi it takes 1.2 seconds. For orange pi, i am facing this problem with different Operating systems as well apart from armbian. I've used Ubuntu, Orange Pi OS, Armbian. All have got this problem. The code I have attached. Since the issue is faced in multiple Operating System I strongly feel this has to do with the driver level softwares or directly related optimization from Rockchip. Can anyone guide what I could do audio-loop.cpp
I'm unable to activate bluetooth in the armbian build above. Confirmed bluetooth working in the vendor radxa bookworm xfce build. Here's what I see in dmesg that may be relevant: ... Hi! With I tinkerboard I installed the Ubuntu Desktop - legacy kernel. I wanted to try the linux-image-next-rockchip, but it had some problems (new IP address at each boot), so I wanted to go back to linux-image-rockchip. When I installed linux-image-rockchip, I got 4.4.73-rockchip and not 4.4.88-rockchip which I had before.
For some reason the default UART utilized by uboot is uart2 on the Tinker. I haven't messed with it, and left it alone, but vendor uses UART1, and UART2 has a conflict with PWM pins. I'm in favor of changing, if anyone objects or has a more interesting idea, please discuss.
