Hello! I installed the latest Gnome Noble image from the very top of the Orange Pi 5 page, it has Wayland and generally is working really well - it even is doing higher refresh rate for my monitor and is smooth! HOWEVER the one big thing I noticed right away - my screen never turns off anymore And my Power options are missing such settings? It only gives the option to blank, which still is running my monitor at 100% brightness and a horrible solution Where is the setting to turn my screen off after 5 minutes? NOT blank, but into standby mode Worked on the previous Cinnamon version but that version lacked higher refresh rates and I think…

i also have issues to move the system to the nvme ssd 😞 my base is the Armbian 25.5.1 with 6.1.115 (vendor kernel) image .... "copied" (usbimager) it to the sdcard and its booting ... 🙂 so I upgraded the system on the sdcard, still running 🙂 I read some posts and advices .... so I partioned the nvme with one big partition (/dev/nvme0n1p1) running armbian-install choosing option 7, (loading/upgrading bootloader to mtd ) after this i choose option 4 (boot from mtd, system on sata, usb ... ) only possible selection was /dev/nvme0n1 ... looked ok said yes to everything no Error system goes to shutdown /power off …

Hi there I'm using Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) KDE Neon image from may 26, 2025. After download this image and installing it, Wayland was working fine, not problems at all. Then, after a system upgrade, if i choose Wayland from session manager, the system freezes and i can't boot with Wayland, only X11... Before the update, the system was smooth, now it's really laggy....Like i said, i'm using Desktop image with Armbian Linux v6.12 KDE Neon (Ubuntu 24.04) There's something wrong with the update Anyone knows why is this happening, and any turnaround to use Wayland again?

Hello everyone, I use my Orange Pi 5 board to run Open Media Vault with Wireguard installed. But there is a known issue with Wireguard that, when installing it, you have to manually reinstall the correct kernel into the board again, otherwise it won't be able to boot. However, ever since it has been installed, during apt update / apt ugrade of my board, it keeps recognizing the wrong kernel to be updated and changing the symlinks inside the /boot/ folder, rendering the board unbootable. If I see this happening, I can change the symlinks and it works normally after that. However, sometimes the symlinks changes unnoticed and I cannot boot anymore. I…

I've downloaded the Armbian 25.5.1 (Kernel 6.12) Home Assistant image (https://dl.armbian.com/orangepi5-plus/Bookworm_current_minimal-homeassistant), burned to microsd and rebooted the orange pi 5 plus. I burned the image to a microsd cards, inserted the microsd and did a hard reboot of the SBC. The error message is "Gave up waiting for root filesystem device."

Using Jun 26's Sid_vendor_server-kali, my Zero 3W is stuck in a loop. I can't "Create a loop password" as it'll instantly jump to the "armbian-security login:" prompt. If I login with the default root:1234, I'll briefly see the welcome screen, followed by a very brief "waiting for the system to finish booting", then it's back to 1. This occurs regardless of internet access (provided by a USB-C ethernet adapter, for which Armbian reports a valid LAN IP address).

After enabling the rk3588-hdmirx overlay in armbian-config device tree overlays, whenever I boot, I am greeted with multiple hdmirx (fdee0000.hdmirx-controller: hdmirx_wait_lock_and_get_timing HDMI pull out, return!) errors on boot. On a previous install, the hdmirx errors would block the entire boot process and it would just hang forever. I do not know the exact cause, but the issues seemed to arise after I ran this command to disable the X Display Server "systemctl set-default multi-user.target". The errors could only be resolved if I plugged in the sd card into another device and removed rk3588-hdmirx from overlays in /boot/armbianEnv.txt . …

Hello all! I have a radxa rock 5b (8GB, not the plus version) and am running armbian (bookworm) on it. The kernel version (uname -r) reports as 6.12.32-current-rockchip64. By and large almost everything seems to be working - video playback in VLC is fine, 3d acceleration is working (I get around 58-60fps in the game 'torcs' as an example). The only thing I can't seem to get working (and can't find much about it) is the hdmi input. I see some five devices listed in dev (from /dev/video0 to /dev/video4) although none of these seem to relate to the hdmi input. Does the hdmi input work on the 5b under armbian at all? thanks …

@Igor@amazingfate Can someone look at this issue please ? I am wondering if this is possibly affecting a large number targets or whether its just BananaPi-M7 / rockchip64 ? I have tried on another monitor also and am getting a black screen. On doing an `apt-get upgrade` on ssh terminal I happened to loose by HDMI display. AFAICT It looks like Ubuntu 'backgraded' gnome v46 (in Nobel release, and also in my older unofficial image) to v44. https://armbian.atlassian.net/jira/software/c/projects/AR/issues/AR-2702?jql=project %3D "AR" ORDER BY created DESC

It's been a while since I used Armbian. I have tons of ARM SBCs from a few years back because I think they're fascinating but they either wind up being too slow or just not worth using it for whatever since x86 "SBC like" boards exist and are pretty cheap. Fast forward to now and I'm doing some touchscreen development and just because of how I have things setup I needed 3 things, I2C, Interrupt capable GPIO and an actual DisplayPort. That combination of things is surprisingly hard to find. I had a couple of things on hand, (Seeed Odyssey x86, Odroid H2/H3, Rpi's, Nvidia Jetson Nano). I spent way more time than I should have trying to make each of these work, i…

A few days ago I had an issue with a successfully running Armbian installation running from the NVME of my Orange Pi 5 that suddenly developed an issue with nothing being shown on my TV. So after seemingly not being to identify the problem, I started again, wrote the image to an SD card and then moved the installation to the NVME drive using armbian-config utility. So now that I have a set-up that works again, I want to instigate a more belt and braces approach and create an image of the NVME installation using GZIP to compress the image file and decided to use the DD option from terminal. Having tried well over a hundred different comb…

I have long struggled with a problem with my Rock S0: If using the USB OTG port in device mode, the connection would suddenly drop randomly, minutes or sometimes hours after initialization. I spent months on and off looking for solutions, and I finally found one, so here it is if you ever find yourself having the same problem. Basically, it is caused by the SoC being very sensitive to voltage drops before the USB controller interprets it as the connection being lost. It's far more sensitive than it needs to be, given that my device is bus-powered and so the OS never actually needs to worry about a connection loss. If the connection is lost it is because I have unplug…

My first post here - I'm new to SBCs and stoked I got my home webserver up and running on a Orange Pi 5 which boots from an NVMe (pats-self-on-back : -) It runs great, pages are up, and it's all SO COOL, but it fails to do a restart... I can do a shutdown -h now, count to three and power it back up and all is well, but if I do a shutdown -r now it will go down, start back up, all the way to the login prompt but then barfs a long Oops message. God please... don't make me start over !

Is there any trick to make use of the integrated fan on Radxa 25W PoE Hat? I'm using 4GB Radxa Rock 5C Lite Armbian_25.5.1_Rock-5c_bookworm_vendor_6.1.115_minimal Some guides mention that one should enable an overlay. I didn't find any relevant overlays in armbian-config. In the Radxa repo I found rock-5a-radxa-25w-poe.dts which specifies that it's also compatible with Rock 5C. I've compiled it and enabled it, but by default the fan is not spinning (on high temps) and I'm not sure how to investigate that. Also, does it matter that I have 5C Lite? As it has another chip: RK3582

Armbian_25.2.2_Rock-5-itx_noble_vendor_6.1.99_gnome_desktop.img.xz I first tried this, as it was the first version offered at the top of the page. No matter what I tried, sound would *not* work. Armbian_25.2.2_Rock-5-itx_bookworm_vendor_6.1.99_cinnamon-backported-mesa_desktop.img.xz And this one, sound *did* work, at least through the speaker jack anyway, but I suspect HDMI would too. For a few weeks I've been using the latest official release from May 26, 2025, running just fine from my NVME drive. But then I turned it on and at the screen where you get the Amrbian grey/red logo in the middle of the screen and the spinning circle, it went no further. The spinning circle would either stop rotating or disappear after a minute or so. I can SSH into the device. But when I use remote desktop from a Windows PC, the full and functioning desktop is there. It's just not on my TV screen any more. I've done the usual HDMI cable testing and powering off the TV completely, but no change. The fact that the…

The base device tree for the Renegade (roc-rk3328-cc) already includes a PWM2 device but armbian does not include the .dtbo to enable it. Thus, it is also unavailable through armbian-config. The Libre builds of Debian support it, but not armbian. I have copied the overlay from the Libre build of Debian for Renegade and it applies correctly on after I manually add it to the overlay directory: /boot/dtb-6.12.32-current-rockchip64/rockchip/overlay/rockchip-rk3328-pwm2.dtbo Note that as of today armbian-config is having a general issue with loading overlays via armbianEnv.txt. This can be bypassed by avoiding using armbian-config for overlays and …

Hi, I wanted to give my Odroid M1 new life by installing a fresh Armbian 25.5.1. Previously it was running on an old Odroid Ubuntu Image. After starting from SD I have no ethernet connection. What could be the cause and how do I get a working ethernet connection? Thanks Malz

G’day guys, just grabbed a version of Armbian again to play around with on an orange Pi 5 I have had for a while. I have installed the latest stable (25.5.1 Noble Gnome). Everything went smoothly, and I have a 512GB ssd on the board, so I went through the install process using armbian-install. I managed to get the OS installed on the SSD, but when I went to install the bootloader, I got some error messages saying that the SPI image was not chosen. I followed the process for erasing the MTD, but still I got error messages relating to no spi image. I tried to boot from the ssd and just got a black screen. I downloaded Joshua Riek’s Ubuntu 24.04 dist…

I had this plan on utilizing the Radxa Rock 5 ITX+ as a Moonlight client device to stream games from my desktop computer to my living room TV, and using my 8BitDo Ultimate controller to play. On paper, the board has all the bells and whistles needed to do it, but I am having trouble getting hardware decoding of H264 and/or HEVC to work as expected. From what I gather, I need mesa-vpu support, but the documentation I find is very scattered, and repositories that once held the needed resources are no longer available. I am currently running Armbian_25.DBhsHKsx.2.2_Rock-5-itx_bookworm_vendor_6.1.99_cinnamon-backported-mesa_desktop.img (build date 21st of February, 2025), dow…

I've got a ROCK 5B+ with two NVMe drives installed, and for reasons I've not been able to track down, I'm noticing that the `-edge` releases (Kernel 6.14.6) are not able to display more than one of the NVMe drives at once. I've checked various physical configurations (i.e., slot one, slot two, both slots), and only one slot is presented (i.e., output from `lspci` or `lsblk`) – but it doesn't seem to matter whether its slot one or two. If I use a `-vendor` images (6.1.115), I see both devices and can use them without problems. I'd love to be able to provide more information or help debug, but I'm not quite sure where to start here! …

Hi, The RK3588 supports frequencies as low as 408MHz, but in armbian the minimum is 1008MHz, which makes the cpu run hotter and draw more power even when idle, compared with the OPI ubuntu version. These are the available frequencies: $ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy0/scaling_available_frequencies 1008000 1200000 1416000 1608000 1800000 $ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy6/scaling_available_frequencies 1200000 1416000 1608000 1800000 2016000 2208000 2400000 I want to add the missing frequencies, I tried to look in the armbian repo for dts files that contain these frequencies, but I couldn't find anything. Is is possibl…

After installing official Armbian_25.2.1_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_vendor_6.1.99_xfce_desktop.img to sdcard, then to nvme all is fine, until, I do an apt update & upgrade, after that point chromium fails to run. I explored the logs to see it a failure to load chromium.conf from /etc/chromium.d/chromium.config (failed symbolic link to /etc/armbian/chromium.config). Is there a known workaround besides utilization of firefox?

How do I change the default desktop environment on Debian 12 startup from cinnamon to xfce4? I have installed xfce4 and it's related "goodies", added a .Xclients file containing "startxfc4" in both root and ~/ folder locations. But the unit sometimes boots back into cinnamon. I do not see anything under armbian-config to control the desktop environment or to switch between cli/gui. I recall such options under orangepi-config (at least the cli/gui switching).

Hi I am looking for a low power, fanless, solution for a Debian server with a single large 3.5" SATA drive. I don't want to boot from the SATA so I guess I'd buy an eMMC module as well. Currently I have an Orange Pi4 LTS with a weird expansion board and a generic Mini PCIe to SATA, but it isn't stable enough. Given that the Rock 5C has platinum support and works with the Penta SATA hat I'm wondering if it might be more reliable? thanks

Hi, I am wanting to try running OPNsense under proxmox, but before that I wanted to setup the type-C port as a management port. I have added g_cdc in /etc/modules to load the kernel module and if I run a vendor kernel, it works fine. I plug my laptop in to the boards type-C port and it shows up as an ethernet adapter and I can SSH directly to the Rock 5 ITX. I however would like to use a mainline kernel instead as it generally runs better thanks to the amazing work of the community here. Running 6.12, this same functionality does not work and nothing appears in the network adapters on my laptop when plugging in. Looking on mainline-status, I see that the typ…

I recently bought an orange pi plus and am using the armbian 6.12 server (https://dl.armbian.com/orangepi5-plus/Noble_current_server) I'm wanting to setup hardware acceleration for jellyfin but having trouble with the right steps. I'm using jellyfin inside docker on the orange pi inside armbian. I've found various tutorials but it seems like some of them reference things that no longer exist (like panfork seems to no longer be needed for latest mesa if I'm understanding correctly?), so wanting to see what I need to do to set this up. So it seems like I need to disable panthor and use mali instead, but I can't find in the armbian config menu the opt…

Hi, I recently got my hands on a used unit of those, quite faster than my old SBC! Only issue I currently have is that I can't seem to get audio output on the 3.5mm jack. (Well the other issue is unrelated .. ) Anyone have an idea on what I should be hunting? I did the obvious cable, etc.. checks. There's always the possibility that it's damaged, hell if I know. Armbian 25.2.1 6.1 kernel KDE Neon (Why use a beta version btw? just wondering) Thanks! DW.

Hello again, We're already aware of the existing issues with kernel 6 and the audio on the RK3308B. In this case, it fails again in the latest versions... Alsamixer detects the audio card and even shows it in arecord -L or arecord -l, but when trying to record, the error appears: "arecord: set_params:1416: unable to install hw params" The command applied is: arecord -c 2 -r 192000 -f S32_LE test.wav Although if I leave it without parameters to see what it does, it throws the same error, even if I specify the hardware... In the previous kernel (I think it was 6.12.11 (with the u-boot issue in the previous post), the audio worked per…

I'm using Armbian with kernel 6.12 on a (CB2) device. When I connect my monitor via HDMI, the EDID is successfully read and it includes both 1920x1080 and 1280x800 as supported resolutions. However, only 1920x1080 appears in the available display modes. The 1280x800 mode is missing, even though it is clearly listed in the EDID.

I got a 6.1 noble minimal image installed with a latest kubuntu update to KDE 6. Was quite some work to get this all working. But some thing aren't working (e.g. audio?). 6.12 and later supports a range more peripherals. I tried the non-vendor images but no go. How do I install one of those? Hello! I'm trying to look around in the Armbian build/config scripts to see how I can enable a mainline v6.15-rc3 kernel to be built. I did try to make a build/userpatches/lib.config file with the contents, KERNELBRANCH="tag:v6.15-rc3" But that's not working. Would anyone be able to tell me the file I need to edit for an OrangePi 5? Update: I actually seem to have it try by editing config/sources/families/rockchip-rk3588.conf changing the version tag. But I get a bunch of red errors complaining about SHA1. hmm...an 'rc3' is probably not to be found in a tree with 'stable' in it. Cheers! Fred

In our testing, when attempting to use various Wi-Fi mini-PCIe/M.2 adapters from Intel and Realtek, we've encountered problem: oftentimes OS will not see PCIe device with error "PCIe link training gen1 timeout". Some days it happens only in 1/10 boots, other days it can stop working completely. After long debugging we've found that 24-pin FPC cable that connects Orangepi and official connector board (PCIE-SOCKET-OPI4-4B) does not pass PERST signal from Orangepi. Instead, it is high by default and the only way to temporarily set it to low is by pressing physical button on connector board. As far as I understand, PERST signal basically tells the connected de…

So a clean install of "Armbian 25.2.1 Noble Gnome" with the vendor kernel (6.1.99) fails to boot when installed on an nvme SSDwith the armbian-install script, when btrfs is chosen as the partition type. I am not sure if the files are copied over correctly, since the ~6GB image on the SD card is copied as 2.9GB on the btrfs partition, but there are no errors occuring as far as I can see. The bootloader is up-to-date, and I can access the btrfs drive when booted from the SD card, so the kernel supports btrfs I guess? However, I think there are some things going "wrong", since the armbianEnv.txt file on the nvme SSD has ext4 instead of btrfs as the ro…

Hi. I have RockPi E v1.21 and I found, that I'm not able to boot image with new kernel 6.12 (tried minimal images 25.2.1 and 24.11.1, USBImager and Balena Etcher, 3 SD cards, different power supplies). I am experiencing an issue with my Rock Pi S. When using SPI1, I am not observing any CLK output signal on pin GPIO3_B3, which I have verified with an oscilloscope. Other signals such as MOSI, MISO, and CS are functioning correctly. I have found that this issue does not occur in the older kernel 4.4.143-65-rockchip-g58431d38f8f3. However, when using the latest Armbian 25.2.2 Bookworm Minimal / IOT image, this problem arises. Could someone please assist me in resolving this problem?

Seems like the kernel 6.12.16 just does not boot - either updated regularly or from "rolling" minimal image. Steps to reproduce: - 1 way - just burn and run current "rolling" minimal image (Armbian_25.5.0-trunk.115_Orangepi4-lts_plucky_current_6.12.16_minimal). Result: Getting no records on UART after "Starting kernel..." and only red led shining. - 2 way Enabling kernel updates from already up to date Armbian v25.2.2 with older 5.15.76-rockchip64 (`# sudo armbian-config` -> System -> Kernel -> SY201 - Install alternative kernels) Result: same as above - 3 way Enabling kernel updates from older Armbian 22.08.10 without Armbian update itself.…

Hi, this week my Rock 5 ITX+ board arrived and I started installing Armbian with vendor kernel (now on 6.1.99-vendor-rk35xx). This board has slightly different hardware than the original ITX. It has two M.2 M-key (2-lanes) instead of one M.2 M-key and four SATA ports. I think because of the different hardware configuration the DTB has to be changed as no SATA controller is present on the board. With the ITX DTB I am experiencing problems with not regonizing NVME disks when activating ASPM in armbianEnv.txt. I have no experience in editing DTBs or applying patches, so I need help to figure out what to do to make things work. …

I have built quite a few Debian12 Desktop images from github.com/armbian/build for a Debian Bookworm/XFCE/Vendor Kernel environment and noticed that recent vendor kernels do not have I2C-2.M0 as a kernel module listed within armbian-config. It appears that only two kernel modules are to be found, one being Panthos, the other involving a change in frequence of some item. This image does include I2C-2.mo: Armbian-unofficial_25.02.0-trunk_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_vendor_6.1.84_xfce_desktop.img which includes kernel: Linux Atlas 6.1.99-vendor-rk35xx #1 SMP Fri Feb 21 18:11:03 UTC 2025 aarch64 GNU/Linux But these images do not contain the I2C-2…

After working in the ssh session for a while, the message suddenly appears: Broadcast message from user@rock-5c (Wed 2025-02-26 11:08:02 CET): The system will suspend now! EDIT: I tried using ext4 rather than btrfs and.. somehow that solved it? I don't understand how the SSD file system would change how the bootloader is flashed because if properly flashed, the SD card shouldn't work at all, unless something has changed. Hey all, I wanted to move to the newest version of armbian (25.2.1) and for whatever reason neither `apt update && apt upgrade` nor `armbian-upgrade` (as a sanity check) worked so I wiped the SPI flash using `mtdtools` as prescribed in the forum post linked on the support page. 1) Booted from SD, installed Armbian and the bootloader. 2) Shut down, removed SD and turned on. Machine hung and never boote…
