Hi friends, back to the Gnome version which works incredibly well It works so well that I put my big desktop tower away and have been getting by strictly on this Armbian Gnome environment. I will be donating to Armbian soon However, I am curious, does anybody know how to fix the resume from suspend? For me, the computer goes into suspend mode just fine, but when I tap a keyboard key, the LED's will light on the keyboard indicating they have power, but the system never comes back. If I press the power button on the Orange Pi 5 itself, the system resumes perfectly -- no crashes, everything works as intended I just need it to …

I have a brand new Tinker Board S with the latest Armbian buster installed. I have hostapd set up for the board to be a WiFi access point. I can see the SSID on my Windows and mobile devices but when I connect, hostapd tells me an error code 8 and that the device is disassociated. Hello everyone! I was struggling to make wiring work on OrangePi 5 Plus armbian. Tried everything and came up with a solution that worked for me. I was constantly getting these errors: wiringPiSetup: mmap (PWM) failed: Operation not permitted wiringPiSetup: mmap (GPIO) failed: Operation not permitted I'm on 23.8.2. 1. Install armbian and update apt sudo apt update 2. As stated in OrangePi5Plus wiki page I got .deb installer for wiringPi on OrangePi Now here's the link to this file: https://github.com/orangepi-xunlong/orangepi-build/blob/next/external/cache/debs/arm64/wiringpi_2.51.deb 3. I finally successfully got Armbian installed on my Pinebook Pro's eMMC. That should be giving it its best possible performance. I thought you may all be interested in compiling a list of games that work at least reasonably well on it given its restrictions of being ARM64 architecture, 1.8GHz CPU & 4GBs RAM. So to start here is a list of the ones I currently have on mine. I may try more later but for now I'm limited by the stock 64GB eMMC that the PCP came with... 0AD - 3D RTS Cave Story - Pixel Art Metroidvania Dr Robotnik's Ring Racers - Kart Racer Dune Legacy - RTS Endless Sky - Space Sandbox Flare - Fantasy RPG Freeciv - St…

Just got my new tinkerboard powered up with armbian. For some reason I could not get anything after build 1.3 off the Asus site to boot! Anway, first impressions good, however in the graphics settings it seems to max out at 1920 x 1080 whilst on paper the tinkerboard is supposed to support 4k. I'll admit I am new to linux so perhaps i'm missing something ovbious, but if someone could explain how I can up the resolution to 3,840 x 2,160 that would be great. For the avoidance of doubt I have it connected to an Acer 27" 4k monitor.

Hiya, I am currently trying to setup some ROCK 5B boards as runners and as I install the latest Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) from here https://www.armbian.com/rock-5b/ it seems to get to where I configure my user etc, then on the next boot it gets stuck at kernal. So I guess before I go through trial and error , is there a recognised most stable build that can be relaibly flashed people would recommend, I found the Rock provided Debian and KDE Plasma to be very buggy and just kept locking up on me so something with Gnome would be cool for now , but will probably move to headless much further down the line. Amazing community reading the messages so far so thank y…

In March 2023 I bought an OPI5 and immediately went for armbian, but I had problems and reported it in the link in this POST. in 2024: I bought the SD cards and other power supply directly from the manufacturers to see if the OPI5 works. I downloaded and burned the latest stable version of Bookworm and the results were the same, errors and everything froze. Before throwing OPI5 in the trash, I downloaded "nightly builds (unstable)" and installed it on an nvme and... it works without problems, I've had no problems for 13 days. In conclusion, the SD card reader is damaged and I can only use the NVME. HELP: I ask you for help with the command (.…

Hi ChecMate, Just FYI I am seeing the same thing on an Orange Pi 4 LTS that I am setting up, what worked for me was to unplug the keyboard to let the boot start, then plug it in later. I tried 2 keyboards and both USB 2 & 3 ports, and the problem is consistent, if I boot with the kb plugged in the HDMI remains dead. Franck

Hello, I'm planning on running a k3s cluster with Rook storage with a few of the Orange Pi 5 that I got. A prerequisite for rook however is RBD module. I've been able to recompile the kernel including RBD support, however I've been unable to get the device to boot from the new kernel. Rebooting after kernel has been built and installed still reports Linux 5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588. Any help would be appreciated. I've since wiped the boxes clean and have a fresh install booting from SSD with the OS installed on the NVMe attached so I will be able to provide any information required. Thanks!

I'm looking for information about the Ethernet chip on the Orange Pi 5. I need an SBC that has PTP hardware timestamp support (IEEE 1588). According to OrangePi.org, the Orange Pi 5 has the Motorcomm YT8531C, but I have not been able to find documentation that provides the answer about hardware PTP support. Most likely it does not, but I'd like to confirm on an actual device before purchasing one. If you have an Orange Pi 5, you can test this with this command: ls /sys/class/net |xargs -n1 ethtool -T If there is someone that is willing to run this command and post the output, I would appreciate it very much. Note: This is a cross-post from iot.stack…

Hi, I've had my 5+ for a week now and tinker with it when I can. Some things I've noticed... Using Amrbian legacy 5.10 legacy.... the system draws about 2.2w idle using a USB meter and no peripherals attached. When using the trying the latest 24.2.0-trunk.79, the power draw increases to 3w idle. I also noted the LED flickers between green and red rather than blue and red with legacy. My guess is more peripherals are being enabled. When using legacy, the first time i run an apt-get update there are 39 'gets'. When I then added a launchpad ppa and run again I only get 6. Not sure why that is. I cannot get…

On a fresh Buster Minimal install, what is required to get armbian-config fully functional? apt install armbian-config 'works' but some functions don't, for instance it fails setting the locale as dpkg-reconfigure errors as usr/lib/armbian-config/jobs.sh line 839 dpkg-reconfigure : command not found EDIT: In armbian-config I selected 'full firmware package' and rebooted, time zone settings now work. Was odd that the welcome page said run armbian-config (beta) but it had to be installed manually via apt.

Hi ! I have a FriendlyElec NanoPi M5 and I want to play movies with it. But I want to squeeze everything out of this SBC ! So, I need hardware acceleration. I want to share some information about an issue that I see on my OPi5+. Since I got it I am messing around with it and everything works great so far with the edge 6.7 kernel. One thing I noticed though was, that right after installation with nothing connected and when idle, there was one kernel process that was constantly consuming around 10% CPU time and the load stays at 1. The process was irq/136-hym8563. The number varies of course after each boot. Kernel driver is rtc_hym8563. Since it is build into the kernel I was not able to unload it as a first test. Side node, the issue is not seen on the Rock5b, so it seems OPi5+ hardware specific. Even if bot…

I am trying to build the kernel with the standards scripts, but directly on my orange pi 5. The build is stopping at some point because of a Warning issued by the compiler (this is the default behaviour for the compiler who does not tolerate any warning by default). However later I noticed this on fresh Armbian installations on NanoPC-T4 too (post). Later on I found that old Armbian installations on NanoPC-T4 is unaffected, probably because of older uboot (something from last Armbian 5.xx days) that already flashed on eMMC. Yesterday I compared a couple of old Armbian images (initially that was posted here) Armbian_20.05.7_Nanopct4_focal_current_5.4.49.img - issue is not reproducible, Armbian_20.08.2_Nanopct4_focal_current_5.8.6.img …

I downloaded and flashed the three images of Armbian 24.8.1 (Noble GNOME, Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy and Debian 12 Bookworm) on the Banana Pi M7, connected to the computer via serial console. The three images are these: Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_noble_vendor_6.1.75_gnome-kisak_desktop.img Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_jammy_vendor_6.1.75_kde-neon-kisak_desktop.img Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_bookworm_vendor_6.1.75_cinnamon-backported-mesa_desktop.img For each image, I booted and logged the board output. The board fails to successfully boot and instead gets stuck in a boot loop. I then mounted the armbi_root partition and edited the file armb…

Sorry, don't have the Armbianmonitor info handy but wanted to get this started... I'm trying to bring up a Libre Renegade RK3328-CC for use as a media center. Armbian's performance is absolutely wonderful compared to the other builds I've tried on this box. Unfortunately, I want the HDMI output going to a Samsung Frame TV, and resolution negotiation fails badly -- I get obvious rasters with black between them, nowhere near the 4K that this TV model is capable of and not even a smooth conversion (Note that the eyes here suggests that the black line is occurring every third raster or something like that...) What information I have gathered so far: …

Has anyone made (or bought!) an adapter that takes the 3 pin TTL-level console port and converts it to a DB9 or RJ45 port that can mount in a PCI bracket? If so, what did you use? And what port did you use to power it as the console port does not provide a 3.3V or 5.5V pin for power (there is a pin labeled "RSV" which seems to supply 5V and may be usable but I don't know its capabilities). I've done this before for other systems using these without too much trouble but when I tried with this board it's not working. Admittedly I haven't hooked it up to a scope to look at the signals, but I'm suspicious of the high baudrate being to blame. I have a couple USB ad…

Hello Armbian forum, I need to have a GPIO interrupt on Orange PI5. I have successfully installed WiringOP and I am using it with C code. The problem is that the interrupt is not working, and I am receiving the following error. How can I proceed? Does anyone know how to enable the WiringOP interrupt on the GPIO PIN? Code C : #define AUX 13 wiringPiISR(AUX, INT_EDGE_FALLING, &MyFunction); Error: wiringPiISR: unable to open /sys/class/gpio/gpio92/value: No such file or directory PS. Hello!! I got Dolphin running under Armbian and it seems its mainly GPU bound for the games that Iv'e tested. I am aware that the Panfrost drivers are not optimal but I thought I'd like to try and squeeze a few extra fps out of this setup by overclocking the GPU if that's possible. Is it? And does anyone know how I can do that? Cheers!

I installed latest vendor image and because of the wifi issues I switched to the edge kernel. I messed up my fstab, couldn't connect with ssh, so I plugged it to my monitor and a keyboard, but there was no video. Eventually, I fixed it by booting vendor image from my sd card, but I got curious. I know, that vendor image just works, so I flashed edge image to my sd card to see what's wrong. The monitor recognizes the presence of the board, but it's just a black screen. I can ssh to the board, so the image definitely booted, but there's just no video. Here's the log from my original installation. I kept 6.8 kernel because the video is not important to me.

After booting up armbian 23.02.2 on my orange pi 4 LTS, cpu temp goes up to 95 deg celcius when stress testing (no heatsink or fan installed at all) and the device reboots shortly afterwards. I ran `armbianmonitor -m` when stress testing and found out that some of the cores are not throttling. I examined the default trip point settings coming with the image in the file /boot/dtb/rockchip/rk3399-orangepi-4-lts.dtb: trips { cpu_alert0 { temperature = <0x14c08>; hysteresis = <0x7d0>; …

Hi! I just booted Armbian_20.08_Rockpro64_focal_current_5.7.15.img via sdcard , but HDMI output seems to stop after "Starting Kernel". Just after that I see some yellow/black vertical lines on my monitor and then the screen goes black, no more HDMI input on the monitor. Logging into Armbian on the RockPRO then works fine via ssh, can do the setup, update etc. So it looks like a problem with HDMI output? Anyone ideas how to solve this? Would like to have console terminal access via HDMI as last resort Thanks in advance! p.s. Just tried the Armbian_20.08_Rockpro64_focal_current_5.7.15_desktop which seems to have t…

Hi, I've got several tinkerboards that I've reproduced this problem on. I'm using the tinkerboard to do network tests, this includes iperf3 traffic, dns querys (dig), https and http (echoping), and ping. All of these tests runs against IPv6 targets and IPv4 targets. These tests are scheduled to very frequently (every other minute or so). To begin with, all tests run fine.. I get good results (~1gbit throughput / low latency / no packet loss). However, after running the tests for 15-20min, suddenly all traffic will more or less stop working (80-90% packet loss). This is no matter what I'm pinging, can be the local router, some target on the…

Hi all, recently I installed the Mali GPU Drivers from the instructions on the official Armbian website. I have Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy installed, with KDE Plasma desktop. I found two problems: 1. The mouse flickers when I move it. This happens on both XFCE and Plasma (X11) 2. Every once in a while, the Plasma panels freeze and I have to reboot my OPI to get it to work. This also happens if I right-click on it and press "Enter Edit Mode". If I don't do that, it freezes randomly (afaik). This affects both the panels and the background (panels don't update, can't interact, cannot right-click). Does anyone know of any solutions to this? Thanks!

Hello Armbian-Community! TL;DR I've successfully enabled the Rockchip RK3568 NPU (0.8 TOPS INT8) on the ODROID-M1 with 8GB RAM running Armbian 6.18.9-current-rockchip64. The only thing needed to make this work for everyone is a 1-line kernel patch in Armbian build that I've already submitted: https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/9403 Once this patch is merged into Armbian, the DKMS modules will work out-of-the-box on all RK3568 boards. The Problem 1. Hardkernel and Rockchip provide NPU patches for quite old kernel versions: rockchip <= 6.6 hardkernel <= 5.10 2. IOMMU …

Hello all, I am running an Orange Pi 5 board with Armbian on a SD Card and I realized that my /var/log path is constantly full, with it being at /dev/zram1 It gets full at 50Mb with the file /var/log/samba/cores/smbd/core taking up all the space I have not managed to read this file, so I can't tell what kinds of errors are showing up. My OpenMediaVault and samba setup are running perfectly fine, and even though I delete this core file, it shows up again during reboot. I have tried to set enable core files = no in smb.conf With no sucess. The file continues to show up during reboot. Any ideas how to solve this? …

I slowly convinced myself that I wanted a PineBook Pro, some time after the first production run. But then COVID, parts shortages, etc. happened and they were not available again until about mid-2022. But when they were, I decided to snap one up. And since then I have not been able to get it to boot Armbian. It came from the factory with Manjaro, which for me being a Debian guy, might as well be useless. So the PBP sat around collecting dust. Since then I have tried a few times to get it to work. I read many forum posts, tried some things. I won't document all that in detail. In this post, I will continue from where I left off her…

When connected to some PC monitors, the image is larger than the physical screen: about 20 pixels at the top and bottom sides, and 50 pixels at the right and left sides are missing. This happens as soon as the board boots (without logo), the start of lines are truncated, and this also happens on text ttys (Ctrl + Alt + F1..6). I guess it's about a boot env variable, but I could not find it.

Hello everyone, I recently installed my orangePi 5 to pass workload from my x86 servers over to the orangePi. My main focus is to reduce my overall energy consumption of my homelab. TL;DR Kernel thinks, that while being idle the sweet spot for the frequencies in "ondemand" and "schedutil" is: 1024MHz on the small chips (CPU0-3) 816MHZ on the big chips (CPU4+5, CPU6+7) Reason is an internal cost calculation power vs. frequency gain, which sorts out the lower frequencies. Long story: After getting my first orangePi5 in place, I started to play around with the hardware. I am running: █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █…

Hello, I've used the Tinkerboard S (Rockchip RK3288) with the Armbian images available for download (https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/). Currently, the /dev/ttyS4 serial port is not available unless CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=5 when the Linux kernel is built since the serial ports are populated in /dev starting with /dev/ttyS0 and the last serial port to be populated is /dev/ttyS4. By default, CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=4. Some additional kernel settings are required to ensure that all of the available serial ports can be utilized. Moreover, I had to activate I2C4 in the device tree overlay using the Armbian configuration utility (https://docs.armbi…

Hi Guys, It seems that I can't boot latest Armbian image from SD-card - system always boots into "inintramfs". See the screenshot. SD-card is 100% working (all sectors tested). Hello Everyone, As I am still working on hardening my Odroid-M1 servers, I am looking for a solution to activate a real console for root login only. My homelab is not in the same room as my desk, so I need to get access from an internal VLAN with restrictions and take control even if the network drivers are not enabled. Have you tested or used a UART to Ethernet converter like https://www.pusr.com/products/ethernet-to-uart-modules-usr-k7.html or https://www.waveshare.com/uart-to-eth.htm or something else? Let me know your thoughts. Sincerely, Frederic

Thank you all for this series of notes. I have been operating Armbian 22.08 successfully using the sd card on my PBP and like it BUT I would like to boot from emm. I have tried dozens of ways to install it to no avail. Seems to be associated with the rootdev=UUID=... If I use the UUID provided in the Armbian-install then I can boot from emm but it ends up mounting and running from the SD partition. Is there any code that can be inserted into the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file that would provide better diagnostics? To me it appears as if the emm partitions UUID is not available at boot time. Thanks, Carl

Hello, After 5 years of loyal service, my Helios64 SBC just died on me last night. Would a Radxa Rock5 ITX+ and a M.2 to Hexa SATA Adapter could be a good drop in replacement to reuse the case? Both are Mini-ITX so it would fit. I know I would lose the front panel lights and power/reset button, and I would need to cut the back panel to fit the I/O shield but these are minor problems. What I am more concerned with, is if it is at all possible to power the 5 HDD from the radxa board (as the Helios 64 board didi). Helios engineers had made it possible to do it with minimum power, mainly by starting up the drives sequentially. …

I purchased a ROC-RK3328-CC from LovRPi.com. The ONLY OS available I can get to boot is Armbian, so this is important. This is a new install. Everything seems to work well enough except DNS. The browser can't resolve domain names, though it can access the various routers' IP's.. cat resolv.conf shows the head text and nameserver 127.0.0.53 I've tried editing the network connection, adding DNS servers, which had no effect except that systemd-resolve --status shows the correct DNS servers for eth0 (the wired connection). This cannot be altered by systemd-resolve --set-dns=[DNS Server IP]. It doesn't throw an error but neit…

My application creates 15 threads. Since A53 has 4 cores it is likely that more threads will be spawned by A53. Is there a way to manipulate scheduling and create more threads through cortex A72 so that it compensates the delay. Examples 6 threads on A72 and 9 threads on A53. This way it ensures the run time does not fluctuate and we achieve peak performance.

So recently I decided to use my (quite old) tinker board, I downloaded the last armbian (desktop, 4.4.213) OS, managed to install a vncserver (x11vnc) and also to use it without a screen plugged in it. And now I would like to turn it into a urbackup server, but I got some error with mdadm, "Module md_mod not found in directory /lib/modules/4.4.213-rockchip". I tried to use this forum to find a solution (https://github.com/armbian/build), but I couldn't make it work. When i tipe ´´git clone https://github.com/armbian/build´´ it stop around 7% at resolving deltas, and it just freeze. Someone could have any idea how to solve this issue?? And i can't get my armbianmon…
