Hello people, Happily running Bookworm, because it was the mainstream download for OPI5 a few months ago, I now see that the main download for OPI is back to Jammy. Apart from hardware accceleration, Bookworm runs great for me. In fact HA is not crucial for my server usage, though it would be nice. Question: what is the reason the main OPI5 download is now back to Jammy in stead of Bookworm? And what would be the advantages of going back from Bookworm to Jammy? (Got the aluminium passively cooling case for the OPI5, so far it's been great, 10 minutes of stresstesting all 8 cores doesn't get above 70 degrees celsius. For reference my…

I tried installing the OS using SD card and EMMC, but both failed. Orange Pi OS (Arch) on the official website ran normally. However, I installed focal_desktop_xfce or jammy_desktop_gnome from Ubuntu Image, but they all failed. After inserting the image into the SD card, the symptom is a black screen and no booting. Does it only support SSD? Because it is entered through a translator, there may be unnatural sentences. If you reply about that, I will get back to you.

armbianmonitor -u https://paste.next.armbian.com/hoyonuruye I installed the newest fresh debian minimal image for the RockPi-S and no matter what I do overlays do not apply. I've followed and compiled spi1 and spi2 rk3308. I've also tested the external antenna device tree as I have installed an external antenna: However neither the external antenna is being used nor spidev are present. I have diffed dtc -I fs -O dts /proc/device-tree and they are identical before and after enabling the overlays in armbian-config and rebooting. I was able to confirm the "overlays" work by manually copypasting their changes in …

Standard install - Armbian Bookworm, full 'firmware install'. I am getting some packet loss over the LAN. A raspberry pi, Synology NAS and Deban x86 install on the same LAN do not seem to exhibit the same loss. Anyone have experience or ideas? Oddly enough this never seems to occur on fresh installs. This is a docker host for pihole and home assistance, no other packages are really installed at all. I've not really tried much, but since this is a standard install, apt-get update & upgrade are about the only modifications outside of docker install that has occurred. 1. This plugs directly in to a Ubiquiti switch 2. I have tried a few differ…

I did a bit of reading - to prevent ubuntu packages to update the rockchip optimized packages, you need to pin the packages. There is a simple way to do that. 1. Create a file called rockchip-multimedia-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-rockchip-multimedia Pin-Priority: 600 2. Create a file called panfork-mesa-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-liujianfeng1994-panfork-mesa Pin-Priority: 600 You can verify that the apt configuration is working correctly with sudo apt policy chromium-browser which should return chrom…

I bought a Pinebook Pro two weeks ago. It came with Manjaro KDE preinstalled on EMMC. I wanted to try out Armbian, so I downloaded the Bookworm XFCE image from May 27th. In order to get the SD booted, I first flashed Tow-Boot for Pinebook Pro (pine64-pinebookPro-2021.10-005.tar.xz) from github Tow-Boot to the SPI. Then during boot after pressing ESC the menu lets you select the SD card for boot. The first boot to Armbian worked well. I could set up user, timezone and everything. The XFCE desktop looks very clean with a reasonable selection of software. Well done, team! But after I upgrade the system with apt update & upgrade, the next time the machine is b…

I know for sure that booting from an sd card and then using dd to write the uncompressed image to the emmc device isn't what works. I'm talking about Armbian_22.02.1_Pinebook-pro_focal_current_5.15.25_xfce_desktop.img here. Because that essentially bricked my PBP. I have the little adapter to connect the emmc to a usd slot, and using balena etcher to write to that isn't it either. the uboot in that image prevents booting from sd automatically as well, and i didn't find any uboot documentation that made it clear how to manually boot from sd, though i did hook up a serial console. This is what it said. The LED never turned green, the display flashe…

Hi, I read everything I could possibly find on the DP-Alt mode for the RockPro64 and came to the conclusion that no Distro is offering that right now. However, the Pinebook Pro seems to have support via a Kernel Patch. Can the Pinebook Pro Kernel be installed on the RockPro64? Is there a repository for Armbian Kernels? Thanks very much.

Hello! I don't really have a question, but just wanted to report I tried out the generic UEFI arm64 image on a Pinebook Pro, and it installed emmc and booted just fine! This was possible because I had installed Tow-Boot to the SPI flash, which supports UEFI booting. I had tried using the Pinebook Pro build of armbian, which worked fine when booting off the sdcard, but installing it to the emmc wasn't working. I'm using Tow-Boot 2021.10 then arbmian image Armbian_22.08.7_Uefi-arm64_jammy_current_5.15.74 . There's a few rough edges in the grub menu, but it boots the OS off the emmc just fine. Should the…

In fact all versions since kernel 5.10.?? are broken and stop at u-boot. Better the Uboot shall dive down and never ever come up to bother us. Finally I managed to install bullseye by using a buster image, deactivtion kernel upgrade and removed the armbian.list from /etc/apt/ Then I changed source list from buster to bullseye apt update apt upgrade -y apt full-upgrade -y thats it. And i is really a shame to fool the community by uploading untested software.

I purchased a ROC-RK3328-CC from LovRPi.com. The ONLY OS available I can get to boot is Armbian, so this is important. This is a new install. Everything seems to work well enough except DNS. The browser can't resolve domain names, though it can access the various routers' IP's.. cat resolv.conf shows the head text and nameserver 127.0.0.53 I've tried editing the network connection, adding DNS servers, which had no effect except that systemd-resolve --status shows the correct DNS servers for eth0 (the wired connection). This cannot be altered by systemd-resolve --set-dns=[DNS Server IP]. It doesn't throw an error but neit…

Hello, I have roughly 30 Orange Pi 5 here in the office setting up for deploying in the field. NVMe boot is working great after using 'nand-sata-install' to flash the MTD. But sometimes (rarely, but happens), when issuing a reboot of Armbian, after full kernel shutdown, the player does not boot back up. Power light is on, no activity blinking LED. Network link and activity blinking. Just won't boot. Requires physically disconnecting power for a few seconds then re-plug to get to boot. I have watchdog set in Armbian and tested that works. So this seems to be before Linux kernel has taken control. Is there any way to enab…

I've got jammy running but I have a dsi display for the board and I'd like that to work (well the tp port too) with jammy. Looking at armbian config I see no setting for it. I know the display works fine as if I load an aryufan android image it works as it is set to use DSI by default. Does this kernel know about the DSI port? Do I have to build a custom kernel? If not then what boot env line will get it going?

Hi, I've come from Joshua's 24.04 Server build. I was concerned that the support was dropping off as he's having a well deserved break. I've installed the latest Server build from here. https://dl.armbian.com/orangepi5-plus/Noble_current_server-kisak Works fine, have moved it to EMMC and removed the SD card. I use a USB power meter to see how much juice it uses. I noticed this build uses about 20 to 25% more when idle or under load compared to Josh's 6.1 kernel build. I am suspecting 6.12 has enabled more hardware in the OPi5+ and this is the reason. Is there a way to disable some of the HW to low…

Hello all, I got a problem after new update of armbian firmware through your own module (script). The left USB port on pinebook pro has stoped working at all. On the left, also USB flash drive doesn't work. No idea, what could it be? Before, as already said, it has worked in 90%. Before firmware upgrade.

Hello, I'm using a rock pi e ver 3.0 with armbian 24.8.3: I would like to drive the state of a gpio, that of pin 7 or gpio 100: I'm not an expert and I tried to use the GPIOD libraries for python but I couldn't do anything because I get errors; from the command line through the gpiodetect command it seems to me that the chipset is recognized and I see some lines and the status of the gpios but I cannot change the status of these. I am using a Rock 5T 12GB board and have tested multiple Armbian images (24.04, 26.04, and others). Here is my experience so far: Armbian current images Audio does not work at all. When I plug in a 3.5 mm headset, nothing happens — no detection, no sound. Bluetooth works, Wi‑Fi does not. I have to manually compile the Realtek rtw89 wireless driver. After compiling, both Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth work, but still no audio output. Vendor (Radxa) images Audio works perfectly. When I plug in a headset, the system immediately detects it and asks whether it has a microphone. Sound o…

Hi Guys, It seems that I can't boot latest Armbian image from SD-card - system always boots into "inintramfs". See the screenshot. SD-card is 100% working (all sectors tested). Please note - I've already tested 3 different prorgams for images: USB-imager, Rufus, Win32diskimager. Nothing helped))). I also re-wrote MTD flash (not sata) by "armbian-install" and got nothing (!) I use my main Armbian-server installed on nvme, but I would prefer to run SD-images as well... Unfortunately, as I see, this became very difficult task lately(((. …

Hello, The issue I describe below begins with a simple 1GB/s speed test with iperf3 (using tcp, then udp). With tcp everything is almost ok. With udp it's an other story. I first try through Internet and notice that there is connection drops. The network topology is : test computer => internet => router => switch (Mikrotik crs-326) => Rockpro64 The iperf3 server is on Rockpro64, and the client is on test computer. I then try to narrow down : - I connect directly to the switch and try again : in and out switch ports show near max speed (~1 Gbps), however the iperf3 server logs show 2 or 3 transfers at reduced speed, then show no tran…

Dear members, I was looking for a Noble Gnome-based image for NanoPi R4S, and only found one that is trunk-based, and had BIG RED letters stamped on it: DO NOT USE FOR PRODUCTION. Is there anything coming in that regard? Will we have a proper Noble Gnome-based release for NanoPi R4S? Thanks!

Inspired by Bazzite OS, and remind me of experience on Armbian (not just armbian), basically on Orange PI 5/ OPI5+, it'll be solid OS if update failure/ anything went wrong can rollback to previous safe copy. Pain-point: I just want to use the system, not keep re-flashing OS. nixOS is good, but I don't want to re-learn everything ... and giving up my Ubuntu eco-system. Sorry I'm still testing out, and failing with existing Armbian-Config approach, I'm trying my own appraoch, Iknew the rules here, wait until I success I'll share it here. (note: or anyone did it before, can give me some direction) Inspired by Bazzite OS, and remind me of experienc…

In our testing, when attempting to use various Wi-Fi mini-PCIe/M.2 adapters from Intel and Realtek, we've encountered problem: oftentimes OS will not see PCIe device with error "PCIe link training gen1 timeout". Some days it happens only in 1/10 boots, other days it can stop working completely. After long debugging we've found that 24-pin FPC cable that connects Orangepi and official connector board (PCIE-SOCKET-OPI4-4B) does not pass PERST signal from Orangepi. Instead, it is high by default and the only way to temporarily set it to low is by pressing physical button on connector board. As far as I understand, PERST signal basically tells the connected de…

I've setup the pwm overlay but while it shows up the pwm devices in /devices - it is missing the pwm0 control I've read couple posts where ppl have been able to override the overlays by decompiling the original one, but I can't make sense of the dtc dtb dtbo and dtsi files 😕 Any guides or other suggestions to fix the pwm control? Hello folks, I happily run Armbian Jammy XFCE on my much beloved Meko box (with at least SOME hardware accel) and Bookworm on Orange Pi 5. Both run excellent, but Jammy/xfce is a bit more snappy. probably because of partly harware accell. On the Meko R3588 4Gb box I installed Docker, Portainer, MQTT server container, Home Assistant container. All is well. I operate my boxes via RealVNC, so that it also will work seemlessly when VPN is active. The containers are so extremely light that they hardly take a few percent CPU. Home Assistant container takes 0,5Gig or so, MQTT server takes 0.1Gig. My first encounter with docker is very positive! Next I will try to add open VPN an…

Trying the Armbian Radxa Rock5T 25.5.1 / 6.1.115 Ubuntu server image for the Rock5T and I can't get the Quectel M2 EM12-G WWAN card to be recognized at all. I was previously running the Joshua Reik image and the card showed in lsusb on that image and worked, but I can't figure out why it's not working on this image. I'm kind of new to all this. I did find this similar thread but never found a resolution. https://forum.radxa.com/t/rock-5b-wwan-support-hardware-bug/25780 Hopefully someone can help as to what could be going on. Hi, SD card did not load Armbian_25.8.1_Orangepi5_trixie_current_6.12.41_xfce_desktop. I noticed that in boot.cmd line 9 , rootdev is defined as /dev/mmcblk0p1. Should that be /dev/mmcblk0n1 or /dev/mmcblk0n1p1? I note that this file should not be edited and the armbianEnv.txt only refers to rootdev=UUID=7e27c862-0a39-41cd-891e-7d77ff7968fd. Is this an error or am I off course? If so where do I correct it? cheers

I cannot get any CMA reserved space when I use latest LTS kernel (4.14): dmesg always says that no memory has been reserved for CMA. Is CMA working on mainline kernel for Mali Midgard? Is it required for 3D/video decoding stuff or the Mali kernel driver should instead allocate memory on-demand? I see that most of the kernel configuration options regarding CMA are disable or not set, which one requires to be enabled?

Hi, I created a Tinkerboard OMV 4 image some while ago, we uploaded it untested (since 'OMV' just means Armbian's build system doing its job with a massive post processing script adding tons of stuff) but now got the report it doesn't boot. That's a bit surprising given that the image has been downloaded over a hundred times and no one complained so far. Deleting the image is the logical consequence but maybe someone here with a serial console can give it a try and report whether the board comes up or where it gets stuck at booting. http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/jk4NM5/OMV_4_Tinkerboard.img.xz (with mainline kernel) or the default kernel variant from he…

Dear all, I got myself an Radxa Rock 5 ITX+ as I thought I'd saw that this board had premium support. After it arrived, I saw that only the ITX (non-plus) variant had premium support, which since latest Armbian release some days ago seems to has been downgraded to standard support. I cleared both the eMMC and SPI flash to make sure the preinstalled OS were gone and would not interfere with the boot up process. Then I built myself a latest image with trixie and vendor kernel but I realized that (after booting from sdcard successfully), the Nvme was never picked up. I have an interesting discovery that smells suspiciously like a kernel bug. I find it easiest to see this bug by running btop which shows a historical per core cpu usage graph so it's easy to see when one stops being used. You can see the same thing in ordinary top but it's less easy to see than with btop. I have a Radxa Rock 5B with an RK3588 chip that I have been stress testing to make sure the hardware is OK before I start to use it in anger. As part of that I ran `openssl speed -multi 8` to spin up 8 threads using 100% cpu each. On all other machines that I've ever done that with it runs all X cores at 100% until it runs out of tests or is Ctrl-C'ed. Watch…

This has happened now on identical brand new boards, new EMMCs, also on SD, identical 5a factory PSU, factory heatsink. OS is Armbian, and it has happened on current desktop and server. This last time I had completed several successful reboots and thought maybe I just hadn't been pushing the plug in all the way. Then it happened again. Prior attempts have been on EMMC, directly burned with Etcher, and brand new Sandisk Ultra in package with bubble. The behavior is while the board is running, white light flashing, system munching it just dies. Throws no errors. Just quits. Green light never goes out. Hello! Iv'e just done a test run installing Armbian for booting off my new m.2 nvme drive. As 'm planning to have the drives 2nd large partition as my basic home file server I'm wondering if I can as easily re-install the OS if/when I need to update it to a newer one? Because the instructions I followed and that I see around do a very basic cat /dev/mmcblk1 > /dev/nvme0n1 onto the raw un-partitioned nvme. My case will be that I have data on a partition on that drive that needs to stay. Is this going to be an issue or are there ways to re-install Armbian or even other distro on the boot partition? Cheers!

Hello! I've been using Armbian on my newly bought Tinker Board for less than two weeks now and I've to say that the work you guys have put into this is incredible! It truly is remarkable and inspires us newcomers which haven't started studying computer science or are currently studying - as myself. So, I will definitely contribute and help others in the future to increase the Armbian community! However, as I'm new to Unix, Tinker Board, everything that's not Windows or Mac OS, I've a deep learning curve ahead! Let's start with my setup: Build: ARMBIAN 5.32.170921 nightly Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.14.0-rc1-rockchip (I know it's nightly so there are bugs, ye…

Hi all, reporting a regression in new Armbian 24.2.1 kernel version. New kernel is causing Orange Pi 4 LPS not to boot most of the time, when it boots, then there is no network. Kernel hangs with oops errors on the screen, and all debugging stuff. Sorry that I did not caught any of them on my phone, but it would have been incomplete anyway. How to reproduce: Install any 24.2.1 based system on Orange Pi 4 LTS Upon first boot, you will have issues. No Ethernet network. Second boot will most likely not succeed no matter what you do and system will brick permanently, by not booting at all (no video output), or booting and then showing kernel crash. …

I'm running Armbian Jammy (23.02.2) aarch64, Xfce 4.16, Kernel: 5.15.93-rockchip64 on a Libre Renegade and would like to change the resolution to 1360x768. I have tried the Display Settings which only has 1280x720 and I can't change the scale, also I have tried changing the values in Settings Editor but that doesn't change anything. (DISPLAY=:0 xrandr -q) shows: xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 1280 x 720, current 1280 x 720, maximum 1280 x 720 default connected 1280x720+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1280x720 0.00* I have limited experience with XFCE and terminal commands, any help is appreciated thanks.

The Libre Computer Renegade RK3328 has hardware AES support. Should it not be listed by `lsmod` if the module is activated? $ grep aes /proc/cpuinfo Features : fp asimd evtstrm aes pmull sha1 sha2 crc32 cpuid Features : fp asimd evtstrm aes pmull sha1 sha2 crc32 cpuid Features : fp asimd evtstrm aes pmull sha1 sha2 crc32 cpuid Features : fp asimd evtstrm aes pmull sha1 sha2 crc32 cpuid $ lsmod | grep aes $ How can one verify that the AES chip is being utilized? I'm on the Armbian 22.11 Jammy release (Kernel 5.15.y, Release date: Nov 30, 2022).

Tried booting a Renegade board with the Jan. 5, 2020 Buster Server Image. It appears that the eth0 is not starting. Switched to a Buster minimal from some time back, and at least the ethernet driver appears to be working.

I have a Renegade ROC-3328-CC board, and trying to get the touch to work on the touchscreen (Typical resistive Touch screen 3.5" HDMI HAT type screen). I'm using the Armbian_5.75_Renegade_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.174_desktop.img, and everything is working except the touch on the screen. Does anyone have success with this combination? By reading through topics on the forum, it seems to me that I need to be on the mainline kernel (since it has fbtft and ads7846 drivers), but I'm not finding any packaged images using mainline that will support his board. Anyone have a mainline Image for the Renegade? I tried the Tinker images whi…

I've burned the latest Focal image onto Renegade board. Everything works fine except rebooting it via command. Once the reboot is entered, the console log showed it tried to reboot but stuck with the following info. The above Armbianmonitor is a zip file, please download it and save as zip file then unzip to get the detail log. I guess it was due to issue in dtb file but has no clue. Is there any genius can help on this? [ 97.418882] watchdog: watchdog0: watchdog did not stop! I recently added a monitor to my server as there were issues and I wanted to see logs directly on the OPi5. The monitor is part of the Motorola HD Dock. I'm using it for it's keyboard and monitor. In any case, the following messages appear in DMESG and keeps repeating ever second or two: [522074.762209] vop2_isr: 107217 callbacks suppressed [522074.762239] rockchip-vop2 fdd90000.vop: [drm:vop2_isr] *ERROR* POST_BUF_EMPTY irq err at vp0 [522074.762321] rockchip-vop2 fdd90000.vop: [drm:vop2_isr] *ERROR* POST_BUF_EMPTY irq err at vp0 [522074.762359] rockchip-vop2 fdd90000.vop: [drm:vop2_isr] *ERROR* POST_BUF_EMPTY irq err at vp0 [522074.762400] rockch…
