I have an odroid-c2 with eMMC module flashed with Armbian_23.02.1_Odroidc2_jammy_current_6.1.14_xfce_desktop When viewing youtube containing word composed of non-latin characters, it shows a funny symbol for each character. How do I install the proper language for this?

First off, could someone please help. I did not seem to be able to create this topic without a tag and the only tag it would accept was "solved". Wondering if somebody could remove the "solved" tag and add in "odroidhc4"? I purchased a brand new odroid hc4 board with the intention of installing armbian and then subsequently OMV. My intention was/is to install Armbian on a MicroSD card. On the downloader page I read that in order to clean boot Armbian the incompatible Petit bootloader needs to be removed. I tried the bootloader bypass (preferred) method and that didn't seem to work for me. The board still seemed to go to the petitboot UI. …

I am trying the first releases of armbian on my new odroid n2 and would like also to test openmediavault which should be available with 3rd party option on armbian-config. But at the moment this software option is not available. Is there a reason for this, maybe the device is very new and not tested for the moment?

I recently upgraded from an Odroid HC2 to and Odroid HC4. I reinstalled the OS following the instructions on armbian.com, flashing onto a MicroSD. After migrating the apps (mostly dockers), I found that restic (backup tool) was generating out of memory errors and bringing the system to a halt in a way the HC2 didn't. This surprised me as it's overall higher specced, and the configuration was otherwise identical. After some troubleshooting, I realised there was no swap drive specified, and that creating a swap eliminated my out of memory errors. I'm not sure if the source of the "problem" is the swapfile here, but it at least…

Hi there, I have an overlay available for Odroid C4 (Kernel 6.6.51), which needs some testing in the field. It supports 12MHz operation max on the pins 19, 21, 23 and 24 on the GPIO header. In case you have a test case for that, let me know, and I can provide things to you. Michael

I need a UART in my work. Added uartC overlay via armbian-config (UART_EE_C - /dev/ttyAML4) However, after booting, the device /dev/ttyAML4 does not appear. The download log contains the following information: Using the kernel-provided DT meson-uartC.dtbo overlay fdt_overlay_apply() error: FDT_ERR_BADMAGIC base fdt has no node /__symbols__ make sure you compile with -@ Error applying DT overlays, restoring original DT I would be grateful for any help!

bringing up a BIG 3d printer from square one on a bpi--m5 with a fairly new image. The pager requires 10 or more mouse clicks, starting with the _ . . . . . at the upper left corner of what I think is the default xfce4 screen. All the eye candy and mouse clicks to actually switch workspaces are very distracting when one is trying to configure klipper. Can all this be reduced to a single click on the dot representing that workspace in the micro-pager? The eye candy is impressive to visiting frogs, until its a PITA when actually doing work. We buy these things in 6 pack qty's to do work, and give you a small monthly support, but impressing the frog…

Hello all, I noticed that since recently (TM) I got loads of spam from panfrost in my dmesg output: I understand that this has something todo with graphics. The only "graphic" thing I'm doing is running standard Klipper-Screen through HDMI and this seems to be working as always... It definately wasn't there like half a year ago. can I get rid of it? Is it something to worry about? my armbian is running on a Banana-Pi CM4 module of of the eMMC. It's a rather standard installation with Klipper installed via KIAUH. sincerely - cad435

Hi everybody, I just got a hand on a generic tv box powered by 4 cores S905x. Performance from this tv box is not satisfied for me. So I am thinking about this VIM4. Can anyone please tell me how is single core and multi cores cpu performance on VIM4 vs S905x? How much faster is it?

I get a pink tinted screen, on the N2+. Tried different DMs (Gnome, XFCE, KDE), and a second N2+ I have. Changing my monitor's icc profile to a generic sRGB in GNOME and KDE does nothing. Using the same monitor and cable on my regular desktop I not have this problem.

I had another distro and power button nicely shut down the system and it doesn't with armbian. I have read some things about it but I'm not even sure if they apply to this board or they are updated, about acpi events, logind and AR100, and I've read the official schematics of the board. It seems the button is connected to ADC pins. I installed acpid but acpi_listen reports nothing. Hello! I recently ran updates on the old M2S I won from here, and that appeared to break my OS, so I went back to try reinstall. And that's where I hit a snag. For some reason, after booting, the kernels refuse to see the partitions on the SD card. /dev/mmcblk0 exists, but none of the subpartitions, and so the boot process cannot find the partition it's supposed to boot from. Neither Armbian_25.5.1_Bananapim2s_trixie_current_6.12.32_minimal.img.xz nor Armbian_26.2.1_Bananapim2s_trixie_current_6.18.15_minimal.img.xz get me past this issue. Hello all! I have an ODROID-C2 that I am trying to use with a GPS connected over UART for timing purposes, which requires the use of pps. Based on my searching and reading in this forum, I have determined that for my OS and kernel (Focal, 5.9.14) I should be able to do so by adding overlay=pps-gpio to armbianEnv.txt. What is not clear to me, however, is how to specify which pin to use! In this thread I see windysea said: But I don't know how to use this information! I have found no documentation on param_pps_*, and my attempts at guessing based on information from other threads and resources have failed to work so far. I have been fiddling…

So, first of all, pretty much a newbie here. I'm trying to add protonvpn to my HC4. I was able to do it with Ubuntu Mate (from the HC4 webpage) on the same hardware, so I'm pretty sure it's possible on Armbian. To be fair, the ProtonVPN website says that raspbian is not supported (and I assume they meant to say ARM) but I have been able to get it to work on Mate, and the problem on Armbian seems to be the Public Key and nothing else. After installation, the app will start, but won't work, so some successful compiling for ARM seems to be happening. What I did: - Downloaded the deb file for Debian based stable release - Tried GDebi and Apt, but dpkg wo…

Hi, I installed armbian_23.8.1_Radxa-zero_bookworm-current_6.1.50 on Radxa Pi Zero eMMC and I have an USB SSD drive connected as storage. Everything worked fine using it as a NAS but if I reboot there is an endless loop of reboots with the core message "scanning bus usb0ff5000000 for devices... Synchronous Abort handler, err 0x56000010". If I disconnect the USB drive it boots fine and when reconnect it after the boot process, the drive works fine. There are no boot flags on the partitions. I completely de…

Hi, Like the title says the UART overlays are not working on the armbian radxa zero device if I use the official out-of-the-box image. Using the armbian-config I can enable UART A and B but these changes do not reflect in the /dev/tty devices (using other distros is can see /dev/ttyAML0, /dev/ttyAML1 and /dev/ttyAML4). I'm having trouble enabling UART_B on my Radxa Zero Ver 1.51 board using "Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy" The idea is to connect a GPS, I had already done this with a Raspberry Pi Zero and it worked fine but I need more CPU capacity and that's why I switched to this board. Has anyone had experiences to enable these serial ports? Thanks

See https://github.com/canonical/netplan/pull/456#discussion_r1569065581 The way the netplan + networkd integration is designed requires all the network devices (wlan0 in particular) to exist at /sbin/init time - otherwise, the netplan generator disables `systemd-networkd-wait-online.service` which also causes `network-online.target` to be reached early. In particular, this breaks any network FS mounts on boot. Of note, I tried logging in to file the bug via the dev contribution platform, but it looks I'm blocked from JIRA access, so am filing it here instead.

If I connected the serial port with my device through GPIO pin 8 and 10 (UART_AO_A_TXD, UART_AO_A_RXD), the Radxa Zero with " Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy" failed to boot. If I removed my device from the serial port, zero can boot. After booting, I connected my device to the UART port, it worked well through /dev/ttyAML0. Any suggestions? Many thanks!

Hello everyone, I am trying to get a Bigtreetech PiTFT70 DSI screen working on my Banana Pi CM4 mounted on a Bigtreetech Manta M8P 3D printer control board. It is supposedly a clone of the Raspberry Pi 7inch DSI display and uses the same display and touch chips. The DSI port on the M8P is wired to DSI 1 port on the Bpi CM4. I have tried hacking together a device tree overlay for it but I don't know enough of what needs turning on and what addresses they require (i2c etc) to get it working. Can anyone with Amlogic meson knowledge assist me? I am running the latest armbian bookworm 23.8 with all current updates installed.

Hello, I’m in a pickle. I bought an Odroid HC4 a few months ago, setup a RAID-1 array and installed Nextcloud on it. At the time, I used `nand-sata-install` to move the system from the SD‑card to a partition of one of the HDD (/dev/sda1), out of RAID (/dev/md0), and leave the bootloader on the SD-card. I did not make a backup of this SD-card and, after rebooting today, I realised the SD-card was not functioning any more. No device I use (Sansa audio player with Rockbox, phone with Ubuntu Touch, Laptop with Ubuntu) would even detect it. I was thinking of using `nand-sata-install` again to only update the bootload…

I think it would make sense to rename the forum section here from "Amlogic S905(x)" to "Amlogic". It would make much more sense for me to talk here for example about the Armbian port of the Odroid C0/C1/C1+ (Amlogic S805) then in any other forum section.

Hi, I'm trying to use an external RTC clock (https://www.hardkernel.com/shop/rtc-shield/, battery is good) connected over I2C to wakeup the Odroid HC4 from poweroff (or if not possible from disk-suspend). To my surprise the rtc was already recognised (and also the device tree seems good) and I'm able to communicate with it, read it and set alarms for it. However, whenever I poweroff the device and try to turn on again it does not power on by itself (neither from poweroff, nor from disk suspend). I have an Odroid HC4 I've used as a NAS. Back around 2021, it worked fine. I think I installed plain armbian back then and installed openmediavault on top of it. Then I did all kinds of updates to it. I believe it's now on a hybrid of Debian Bookworm and Debian Trixie - don't ask. The update mechanism is not super clear. I wanted to run a fresh, plain Armbian and install dietpi. But there is a well documented flaw where Armbian cannot exit boot in some cases. In my case, it happens only when SATA drives are attached. I have two WD Red drives that it can't boot with those attached. It seems like the bootloader code was changed over time…

Hey, I have a very similar problem here to this and this thread. I rebooted as the HC4 was already bugging me for a while to reboot on the motd (unattended-upgrades). Since the reboot, /dev/sdb is gone. It's a new Samsung SSD 870 EVO as well as in the other thread. The other (still running) one is a new Crucial MX500. I tried several Armbian kernels but no change. I went back to 5.10.57-meson64. There are no obviously burnt components on the device. There seem quite a few people with this problem. Any ideas? Thanks a lot! P.S. TP10 and TP11 are at 12V.

EDIT: Please don't trust in the numbers appearing at the top of this thread. Obviously there were bootloader/firmware issues that needed to be resolved and afterwards Potato performance will be somewhat higher. Since I didn't find numbers may I ask owners of the device ( @Igor, @TonyMac32 ?) to run 4 quick benchmarks? Two times openssl, 7-zip and tinymembench. Please comment also which clockspeeds and which distro you used (Xenial preferred). Thanks!

Hi, I installed/compiled different browsers that are based on QT (QtWebKit, QtWebEngine). Unfortunately, special characters, often necessary for typing in non-English languages, do not work. E.g. a Spanish accented 'e appears as 00e9 This makes all these really fast browsers with low memory footprint useless for multilanguage writing (e.g. in webmailers). The characters work fine in the terminal and other browsers such as Midori, Firefox and Chromium. Thus, I think, something went wrong in the compilation of QT libraries. Any idea how to solve that?

hi all, I'm very new here, just got my first potato and am playing around with it. I noticed my top left USB port wasn't working at all, which googling led me to this thread here: It's a pretty old thread, but it seems to still be doing it, at least in the version of jammy I downloaded today. Not a dealbreaker for me, since I only really need 1 port, I can use one of the other 3 and it works fine, but thought maybe someone would want to know if you didn't already know. I DID confirm that it's not the board/port. If I put Ubuntu on it, I can see the drive just fine in blkid even when it's plugged into that pesky USB port.

Hello, I'll start by saying I'm new at those things. I have recently bought a "Le Potato" board. I was trying to install Lakka (via raccomanded link). When I plugged in the micro SD, the power, the HDMI out ecc, nothing happened other than two led turning on (red and blue). What could have gone wrong? Thanks in advance

Hey all, I'm unable to boot Armbian from the SD card of my Radxa Zero 1 GB. When I download one of the official Armbian Radxa Zero images I always get the message "ALERT! UUID=eba52b2e-b77a-47b9-9619-ebda85946883 does not exists. Dropping to a shell!" Previously I ask the Radxa community on Discord, were I received the suggestion that the CMA memory maybe was configured too high. I tried to make an image from master (4b21499534, after https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4151 was merged) but that didn't help. When I run `dmesg` I get the following repeating error "mmc1: error -84 whilst initialising SD card" When I run `blkid` I do not get any output B…

I'm trying to complete the installation of Armbian onto the HC4 (HC4-P if that changes anything). With a fresh SD card I run sudo dd if=Armbian_22.11.1_Odroidhc4_bullseye_current_5.19.17.img of=/dev/sdb status=progress plug in the card to the board, plug in the ethernet cable, hold down the boot switch, and plug it into power. It all seems to run correctly: I can SSH into the board and I complete the initial steps to set-up the installation (root pass, default shell, username, real name, and locale). However it does not seem as I can access the SPI FLASH device. Running the following commands from the HC4 page do not work as there are no mt…

Whatever I plug into the usb otg port, it doesn't get recognised. I think the port got disabled. What happened? I connected a new harddrive via usb3 but the machine wouldn't boot because of some "Unexpected XHCI event". I had to add a usbstoragequirks to u-boot env. (via armbian-config) to solve that, but now the usb otg port is no longer working. Googled a lot and found one possible solution but it did not work for me ( https://forum.banana-pi.org/t/topic/5485/13 ). https://paste.armbian.com/aqowuxukev

The USB-C port and lsusb results suggest to me that this board should support USB 3 under Armbian, but I have no earthly idea how I would succeed at this. My first, naive attempt used the PinePhone docking bar. This looked like it might work as it passed power through to the M2S, and it also powered the WD Passport HDD I used to test, but no devices appeared. Is there a better fit? Perhaps the PinePhone device only works with Pine devices? This would be better posted on the official Banana Pi forum, but I'm apparently IP banned despite having never posted there. This is an Armbian system, so I reckon it's not too off-topic to ask here.

I'd like to use GPU OpenCL acceleration (afaik OpenCL on NPU isn't supported at all for now?) on headless armbian and I'm getting "No devices found in platform" in clinfo. Could you clarify whether armbian has support for this and I'm missing something (kernel flags? userspace driver? some kinda nonfree blob?), or there's no support and I should move onto another distro? Thanks

Hi there, I have two Le Potatos, one for each of my boys. One of them has Raspbian OS on it and the other has Armbian. What we have found is that the one with Raspbian is able to run Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu/), but the one that I have loaded with Armbian gives an error that says that WebGL is not working properly on Chromium. On Firefox I don't get an error, but Scratch doesn't work right. I purchased these on the same day, so as far as I know, the hardware should be the same. Is there a way to enable WebGL on Armbian so that my boys can use Scratch on this system? In case it helps: https://paste.armbian.com/wepugikade

With the most recent minimal Debian image, Armbian_26.2.1_Bananapim2s_trixie_current_6.18.15_minimal.img on my A311D, I hit a problem with Xorg. Instead of starting up into dwm via lightdm's autologin, all I got was the blank blinking cursor screen. Working through it with an LLM, the resolution worked out to be adding a stanza to Xorg.conf. Section "ServerFlags" Option "AutoAddGPU" "false" EndSection Is this the correct solution? Is this known or understood? I know nothing about any of this. I presume it's related to how the devices look to Xorg via the kernel, but I have no understanding beyond that level, if that's even correct.

Hi all, I've been searching this topic for a while but haven't found a clear answer to my question. Running an N2+, I've noticed that sometimes, in dmesg, a process will be killed due to lack of ram, this is usually when, for example, plex is busy generating video thumbnails and bazarr is syncing newly downloaded subtitles for example. This isn't as common place as such but it does happen from time to time. My armbian installation (latest ubuntu server image with latest mainline kernel) is installed to an nvme ssd, so I was wondering if enabling zswap and disabling zram would be beneficial in this case? Or can both be used at the same t…
