  1. Hello, I'm using a RockPro64 boards inside one of my projects and I just noticed an issue related to the reset process. When pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a reset loop. Using the oscilloscope, I found that the reset signal (OTP_OUT_H) is toggled every 330ms by the CPU and the only way to get it back to work is to power off the board, wait a few seconds, and power it back. The same issue is found if, after a working boot, a quick power cycle is performed. I tried disconnecting everything from the board but still, when pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a loop condition (as if it’s constantly crashing at boot). …

  2. I'm trying to use an SPI driven TFT display on the orange pi 5, but I'm stuck on enabling SPI in the first place. Looking at the pinout of the orange pi 5 in its manual, it appears that SPI4...M0 is the only bus broken out to the pins. However, enabling "rk3588-spi4-m0-cs1-spidev" in the armbian-config menu does not seem to do anything, as no /dev/spi device exists after a reboot. Enabling any of the other spi hardware functions seems to work just fine, creating a /dev/spi device as expected, but none of the other spi busses are accessible through the pin header. I'm on Armbian 23.8.1 (image: Armbian_23.8.1_Orangepi5_bookworm_legacy_5.10.160.img). Has anyone used SPI on t…

  4. I have installed the recently released `Desktop images with Armbian Linux v6.10` image (24.8.1, Debian Bookworm, with the Cinnamon desktop) on an OrangePi5 and I'm happy the HDMI support included has finaly enabled the video to my 1080p display. However, my previously supported WiFi adapter is not recognized in this version - it worked with the vendor (5.10) kernel which I used with last year's OrangePi5 image, but how it seems the driver is not installed with 6.10. The WiFi adapter is connected via USB and it's listed as Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8812AU 802.11a/b/g/n/ac 2T2R DB WLAN Adapter. Now, there are a few DKMS/out-of-tree drivers that I could inst…

  5. Hi. I have RockPi E v1.21 and I found, that I'm not able to boot image with new kernel 6.12 (tried minimal images 25.2.1 and 24.11.1, USBImager and Balena Etcher, 3 SD cards, different power supplies). With image 24.8.3 it boots normally. Also I found, that after upgrading 24.8.3 to kernel 6.12 the RockPi boots, but Ethernet doesn't work (even LEDs are dead). Another thing which I notice is, that I didn't find any option to disable kernel upgrades, but what I googled, it should be present in armbian-config->system->kernel->Y203. But this Y203 option is missing. Here is successful boot log of 24.8.3: https://paste.armbian.com/ixuvimofis.sql …

  21. Hello, I'm using a rock pi e ver 3.0 with armbian 24.8.3: I would like to drive the state of a gpio, that of pin 7 or gpio 100: I'm not an expert and I tried to use the GPIOD libraries for python but I couldn't do anything because I get errors; from the command line through the gpiodetect command it seems to me that the chipset is recognized and I see some lines and the status of the gpios but I cannot change the status of these. 26. This is a last-ditch effort to figure out how we can continue to build our project on top of Armbian. Goal We are building an appliance on the RockPro64 board, with eMMC and an PCIe SSD attached, using a custom-built Armbian Ubuntu 18.04 image with extensive post-configuration (packages, appliacations, overlayroot...) within the boot process. The image is then processed by Mender to create a true dual-root filesystem over-the-air update system with fallback (we invested a lot of resources to extend Mender for Armbian and RockPro64). This build process works perfectly and is exactly what we need. Issue The reliability, however, is bad. In …

  36. Hi friends, I have one nagging thorn in my side that I just cannot figure out. I need someone who has a 1password account for help with this one. I've narrowed down the error message to a 4Gb memory limit with the selected version of the drivers but I was wondering if anyone had luck with playback. I had better luck with Jammy 23.4 and I regret upgrading. What is the recommendation? Should I try nightly with 6.6.0-rc1 kernel? I assume this one doesn't need panfork drivers anymore or are there other recommendations for h264 playback?

  51. I updated to Armbian 26.2.1 on OPi5, and it can't boot from MTD (rootfs at NVMe), and I have to use SD card to boot to NVMe as workaround. After looking into this issue, I found rkspi_loader.img is no longer available for current (6.18.8 kernel) u-boot pkg and armbian-config flashes u-boot-rockchip-spi.bin ( or similar sata version) to /dev/mtdblock0 and I think this is wrong image for MTD bootloader. If I use older vendor image, which u-boot pkg has rkspi_loader.img, system can boot to NVMe rootfs and I notice that /dev/mtdblock0 has several gpt partitions including u-boot one, and flashing u-boot-rockchip-spi.bin erases partitions in SPI flash. 55. Orange Pi 5 · Started by OttawaHacker,

I haven't tried Jammy with 6.1.43 but the kernel doesn't say rc anymore so curious of the status. How does this build compare in terms of feature and performance with 5.10? Is all the video decoding supported? The RK3588 Kernel support page says that hdmi audio is not supported - is that really the case? Is gnome/wayland supported? I see that only KDE is listed there.

  56. Hi ! I have a FriendlyElec NanoPi M5 and I want to play movies with it. But I want to squeeze everything out of this SBC ! So, I need hardware acceleration. I tested first with a OS image downloaded from FriendlyElec and mpv and (almost) everything works well. The mpv working configuration is: hwdec=rkmpp, vo=gpu, gpu-api=opengl. But I don't like that OS for other reasons, so I switched to Armbian. I installed the image "Armbian 26.5.1 KDE Wayland (Ubuntu 26.04 - vendor 6.1.115)", then I installed mpv, but when I try to play movies, it says: marus@nanopi-m5:/mnt/NAS/WDRed1/Samples/FullHD$ mpv --hwdec=rkmpp --vo=gpu --gpu-api=opengl H265.8bit.FullHD.192…

  58. Hi there! o/ I have noticed something... Odd. This is not a show stopper here, but the TinkerBoard NIC leds stays off all the time (if no traffic) even with link. It does blink somewhat schizophrenically when there's traffic. The right NIC led is bi-color and sometimes blinks in yellow, sometimes blinks in green. For what is worth, running Kernel 4.4-120. Issue also happened in build -104, which was the original Armbian image that I have downloaded. I thought it was something with the port, cables but... Traffic flows just normally Is it... normal? :-) Have a great (tinkering) weekend!!!

  59. Can anyone provide a link to a currently available and confirmed working USB to 3.3V TTL converter that works at 1500000 bps? The PL2303 I have technically supports up to 3 Mbps but only in certain discrete steps, and 1500000 is not one of those steps. The MCP2221A only supports up to 460800 bps. The FTDI FT232 data sheet claims support up to 3 Mbps but is unclear about whether arbitrary baud rates are supported, or only discrete steps like the PL2303. Searching for a compatible USB-TTL cable to work with the RK3399 has been futile so far. A link to a confirmed working cable would be much appreciated. Confirmed working cables only. No theoretical devices, please.

I tried installing the OS using SD card and EMMC, but both failed. Orange Pi OS (Arch) on the official website ran normally. However, I installed focal_desktop_xfce or jammy_desktop_gnome from Ubuntu Image, but they all failed. After inserting the image into the SD card, the symptom is a black screen and no booting. Does it only support SSD? Because it is entered through a translator, there may be unnatural sentences. If you reply about that, I will get back to you.
