hi there, I'm a complete Linux noob so please forgive my ignorance. But I do have 25+ years experience in IT so am relatively conversant with basic principles - so please be patient I did try to search for any previous threads but couldn't find any. I'm trying to setup a RADXA Rock 5 ITX with OpenMediaVault for my NAS. I have a 2TB NVMe m.2 SSD that I'll use for the OS. For the NAS storage I'm using 4x Western Digital 16TB SATA III drives. I downloaded the Armbian 25.2.2 bootable image from https://www.armbian.com/radxa-rock-5-itx/ and used Balena Etcher (the legit version from Balena-io) to make my bootable microSD card. …

Couldn't booti from NVME with armbian-config or armbian-install, finally I could do it, a dirty easy and convoluted following way. No details about burning stuff This is what I did 1) boot system from fresh downloaded SD (Armbian Jammy Desktop) 2) NVME setup (sudo gparted) - if empty create a partition table (GPT) if not delete all partitions - create 256MB FAT16 partition (nvme0n1p1) - create EXT4 partition (nvme0n1p2) - optionally create more partitions (system recovery, backups ...) - format partitions nvme0n1p1 -> FAT16 - format partitions nvme0n1p2 -> EXT4 - check partitions (if old N…

I have a TinkerBoard S. In Bionic Desktop (kernel 4.4), the wireless icon menu lists two devices: wlan0 (which is the expected interface) and p2p0: I don't know this one, but it is always chosen for auto-connecting to the local wireless lan, receiving a random IP and not the one I configured on the router. I can then manually connect to the network with the wlan0 interface the IP is correct. How do I disable / remove / anyway stop that p2p0 interface to "steal" the network connection?

Looks like the current-rockchip64 kernel that one receives with apt on PINE64 rockpro64 is 3.18.10 (6.18.10-current-rockchip64), vulnerable to copy-fail. This seems weird because if you go to https://armbian.com/boards/rockpro64 that page says that the "current" kernel for these systems is 6.18.26 and that is what you get when you download the image file. Is there an issue with updating the apt repos?

I have a recently commissioned Radxa Rock-5B that I use as my PXE host. It has a number of iso images that are loopback mounted on directories like /var/www/html/mirrors/Fedora-44. Dear Armbian Community, I hope this message finds you well. I am encountering an issue with PWM on my Orange PI 5 Plus running Armbian. Despite my attempts, I am unable to utilize PWM via GPIO pins. Upon navigating to /sys/class/pwm, I can only see the pin designated for controlling the fan. The PWM pins on the GPIO are not visible. I have successfully controlled GPIO pins using WiringPi and Go Lang Periph libraries; however, when attempting to use PWM via GPIO, I encounter the following error: I have also checked the “hardware setup” screen in armbian-config, where I can see two hardware components listed, but PWMs are not among them. …

Hello, I'm using a RockPro64 boards inside one of my projects and I just noticed an issue related to the reset process. When pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a reset loop. Using the oscilloscope, I found that the reset signal (OTP_OUT_H) is toggled every 330ms by the CPU and the only way to get it back to work is to power off the board, wait a few seconds, and power it back. The same issue is found if, after a working boot, a quick power cycle is performed. I tried disconnecting everything from the board but still, when pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a loop condition (as if it’s constantly crashing at boot). …

Let's make a topic dedicated to the latest issues with the latest Linux Release Candidate provided on the Linus Torvalds git repository. So, on the 4.13.0-rc6, I got a crash on boot on my MiQi devices due to some changes in the logging functions used by the STMMAC Ethernet driver. I reverted some of their changes by just commenting the new logging function. I'll try to get in touch with the person who wrote the commit that generated this issue, as he tends to roam in the #linux-rockchip IRC channel. Meanwhile, here's the patch : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/blob/master/patches/kernel/v4.13/0012-net-stmmac-Reverting-a-part-of-Use-…

Hello, Recently I have upgraded Armbian on my PBP (w/o kernel). My current kernel is 5.10.60 #21.08.1. I know, it's old but the newer only makes PBP unusable at all - black screen on boot. My current issue concerns the PBP keyboard. Some keys started generating weird outputs. I have never faced with something like that. When I press 'q' - output is - aq2468 x - zxetuj c - cfghk d - DWRI 1 - the screen is dimming I have no idea if this is software or hardware issue. The computer was on the shelf. Nothing has happened to it physically. After years of fighting with this crap :( - I want to be sure if that is the last straw to put this com…

This is a last-ditch effort to figure out how we can continue to build our project on top of Armbian. Goal We are building an appliance on the RockPro64 board, with eMMC and an PCIe SSD attached, using a custom-built Armbian Ubuntu 18.04 image with extensive post-configuration (packages, appliacations, overlayroot...) within the boot process. The image is then processed by Mender to create a true dual-root filesystem over-the-air update system with fallback (we invested a lot of resources to extend Mender for Armbian and RockPro64). This build process works perfectly and is exactly what we need. Issue The reliability, however, is bad. In …

So I got 2 others and attempted to boot new version of the image and Im getting no post. I was able to solve my original problem by installing a legacy version in flash and copying /boot over to nvme. I also attempted rebuilding the mme partitions with no success. I'm using a few Libre Computer Renegades as headless servers, and they're working well (thank you!), but I'm wanting to set one up for personal use, and I've discovered that when I plug headphones into the analog audio jack, the left and right channels are reversed. (Also, the default volume, (for example, from speaker-test in a terminal) is too loud for headphones.) sudo armbianmonitor -u Says: System diagnosis information will now be uploaded to https://paste.armbian.com/Error adding document. so I've attached armbian-hardware-monitor.log instead. armbian-hardware-monitor.log

Is there an official way of installing libmali drivers on Armbian? I'm feeling a bit slow, since I can't really figure out how to install them. It seems like files from this github repo will overwrite other system files, so it's not a solution that would work in the long term.

Hello, I have installed the minimal Trixie based image for Orange Pi5 (the image named Armbian_26.2.1_Orangepi5_trixie_current_6.18.8_minimal) and then attempted to build an out-of-tree kernel module. Having installed dkms and build-essentials, plus the kernel headers through armbian-config, I found the headers package hasn't been fully set-up, the build symlink in /lib/modules/<KVER> is missing and dkms complains that the kernel headers for the kernel are not installed. The kernel headers are installed though, but it looks like they're from a previous release (25.11.2 instead of 26.2.1). # dpkg -l | grep rockchip ii linux-dtb-cur…

Is it possible to load the A72 cortex with more computation work compared to A53 cortex? Specially during multithreading can i generate more cores on A72 cortex as it is significantly faster? While compiling there is a flag to select the appropriate cortex (-mtune=cortex-a72.cortex-a53) but it only generates appropriate cortex code. Any way to control these cortex based on the application?

Hi I was struggling to find the right package for my Tinkerboard. I needed a reasonably powerful 24x7 appliance that could provide torrent downloading, wifi hotspot, a shared network drive and a LMS box. After trying out the Asus effort and DietPi - both with severe issues) I landed on Armbian and it seems to have everything going for it but the LMS install just does not work. I am a Linux newbie, I know my way around Windows and a GUI, and used the instructions here and a few other places to successfully set up the hotspot and the sharing and automounting of large USB drives. It took me the better part of 6 hours just to figure all of that out (j…

I have my kernel locked to 6.1.75 but still after 25.8.2 update, I lost all USB devices on both of my Orange PI 5. Only the USB3 port is working. The only way I've been able to get access to the USB is by switching to the latest `current` kernel... Any clues on what is going on? Firmware or kernel upgrades are not doing anything... where can the issue be???? I tried downgrading to many different versions but beside the current branch, USB is gone. Thanks

I am using the M.2 connector on the Radxa Rock 5B+ board to connect an LTE module (EM7455). According to the datasheet and engineers, this M.2 slot is connected to the board via a USB hub (USB 2.0). When using the official Radxa OS, I can successfully detect the module under lsusb, the necessary kernel modules load correctly, ModemManager recognizes the modem, and I can establish an internet connection. However, on Armbian, I am experiencing a strange issue. The device does not consistently appear under lsusb; instead, the logs show that it keeps connecting and disconnecting in an endless loop. I am unsure of the root cause and how I can gather more detailed log…

See https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=8685 Using his SPI flash image, and then using armbian-config flash from SPi/system on NVME option worked. I had commented out the set the uboot partition section to what is started booting from lines in boot cmd to do the initial testing. I have been booting mainline for a while on this device. It boots much faster, and two or three weeks agoTobias Schramms atf patch made into mainline atf so the device no longer hangs on a soft reboot. I have booted from sd, emmc and the NVME with this u-boot. I haven't tried usb3 or usb2.

The NanoPi R3S contains a hardware clock (HYM8563) with the possibility to connect a backup battery. However, the current kernel adds this clock as an additional one (RTC1). I tried to create a device tree overlay, but it does not work. As I understand it, this is because the default Rockchip clock is not included in the device tree. So, if I understand correctly, the only way to make the HYM8563 the default clock is to build the kernel with this option enabled. Please consider changing the default kernel options to make the HYM8563 the default RTC. If there’s another way to make the HYM8563 the default RTC, please advise.

Hi all, recently I installed the Mali GPU Drivers from the instructions on the official Armbian website. I have Armbian 23.02.2 Jammy installed, with KDE Plasma desktop. I found two problems: 1. The mouse flickers when I move it. This happens on both XFCE and Plasma (X11) 2. Every once in a while, the Plasma panels freeze and I have to reboot my OPI to get it to work. This also happens if I right-click on it and press "Enter Edit Mode". If I don't do that, it freezes randomly (afaik). This affects both the panels and the background (panels don't update, can't interact, cannot right-click). Does anyone know of any solutions to this? Thanks!

Hi all, I am trying to recover after a failed NVMe install. I have a working install on an SDCard, but I think my board no longer boots to SDCard, since I flashed the bootloader via armbian-install. I am not sure if my NVMe install is good or not, and I can't currently reflash it. So I think my best bet is to wipe the SPI, which I hope means the board will go back to booting from SDCard. That's question 1 - is that actually a valid solution? If I wipe the SPI will I be able to again boot to SDCard? I am able to get the board into Maskrom mode, and I can see it using the Windows tool. However, I believe that I …

Hi, does anyone know how to get hardware video acceleration on orange 4 lts? I've looked around and I saw that rk3399's multimedia support can be enabled using the rk3399 legacy multimedia framework. But that requires a legacy buster image, which doesn't exist for the orange pi. I've tried to compile it myself, but it seems the compile script won't allow it. Is it really impossible to compile a legacy kernel for orange pi 4 lts?

I prepared (last weekend? - don't remember anymore) a first step towards a merge of rk3399 (currently nanopi boards) with rockchip64 (more or less all the rest) so that both can be covered fully under one boardfamily (rockchip64). Patches are adjusted and dts support for nanopis in ayufans kernel is done as well. https://github.com/chwe17/build/tree/rk3399merge I would happily give it into 'someone others' hands cause time in the next month might be really rare. Basically it needs testing on the boards which got newly merged into rockchip64 (don't own any nanopi *4 board so I can't test it). And probably a small helper script to adjust …
