Rk3588 boards now share the same linuxfamily as rk3568 and rk3566 boards. It means rockchip-rk3588 kernel won't get update longer. Here is some steps for migration: sudo sed -i 's/LINUXFAMILY=rockchip-rk3588/LINUXFAMILY=rk35xx/g' /etc/armbian-release sudo apt update sudo apt install linux-image-legacy-rk35xx linux-dtb-legacy-rk35xx linux-headers-legacy-rk35xx sudo apt remove linux-image-legacy-rockchip-rk3588 linux-dtb-legacy-rockchip-rk3588 linux-headers-legacy-rockchip-rk3588 NOTE: The steps are currently for beta branch only. Don't try on stable branch.

I have recently accepted the 23.11.1 armbain kernel release on my RockPro 64 The update has not rebuilt or updated the uIntrd for the 6.1.63 kernel. My current setup is the tinkerboard powered by the raspberry pi universal adapter connected to ethernet and a external HDD(Maxtor M3) powered by the Tinkerboard's usb. I have used it very lightly in this configuration (ssh-ing into it and copying some files to the hdd) but from what I have gathered from the information available here this powering setup is inedequate and will lead to problems. So I want to follow the recommended method and power it through the GPIO pins. I am considering using this or this powersupply. (I realize 10A on the second one is overkill for the tinkerboard, but the price difference from the 3A rated one is minimal and I could find some othe…

My experience so far: 1. Booting up (Jammy/Bullseye) from SD, HDMI out to 1440p display cuts off text at the bottom. It affects installation and later use. I need to press ENTER several times to all questions until text moves up in the buffer and becomes visible, and then blindly type the answer to proceed to the next step, then several ENTERs to scroll again, and so on. I am attempting to install the file Armbian_23.02.0-trunk.0112_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_cinnamon_desktop.img from https://www.armbian.com/orangepi-5/ but the installation hangs at the point where the root password should be entered. The same happens with the file Armbian_23.02.0-trunk.0112_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_minimal.img. If i use the file Armbian_22.11.3_Orangepi5_jammy_legacy_5.10.110_cinnamon_desktop.img from the Github archive the installation completes. I have tried to raise a bug but the only solution for not booting are hardware and the installation has not progressed far enough to enter any commands. Any assistance welcomed.

Guys, i'm new. Hi, I was just trying to test locally build image with edge kernel (Armbian_23.11.0-trunk_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_edge_6.6.0-rc1.img) by flashing it on SD card and then trying to boot off it in my Orange Pi 5+. The board just sits there with the LED blinking and that's it. The legacy kernel image (Armbian_23.11.0-trunk_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_legacy_5.10.160.img) boots fine. Do I have to carry out some extra step(s) to test the edge kernel? It's not a show-stopper for me as I have legacy image booting of EMMC nicely (and I am running jellyfin in docker happily there). It's just I thought I might test out some bleeding-edge s…

New Rock 5C work everything fine on Armbian 24 - bookworm stable release but only issue is that Wifi is not working on all stable release except Daily / Rolling releases. It seemed like something is misconfigure about wifi driver. You can see that I tested on both kernel 6.1.43 (stable) and latest edge and it's not working. But this daily release work like charm.

I have tried to download at least 3 times this image: Armbian_25.8.1_Orangepi5-plus_noble_vendor_6.1.115_gnome_desktop.img.xz All sha256sum verified Ok. And wrote 5 times on 3 different SDCards, and this img does not boot on my OPI-5-Plus. No image on monitor, partition armbi_root not expanded, no green lights... Just unusable (for me). Other img's that boot are OK: Deb-xfce, noble-cinnamon, noble-neon... Someone got success with this img??? I'm looking for a distro that works well on OPI5-Plus, well configured, and that works with HDMI audio. The best for now is Noble-Cinnamo…

Hi all, I'm trying a Tinkerboard running armbian (minimal) and DietPi. My goal is to handle suspend and wake up. To enter in suspend mode i run 'echo mem > /sys/power/state'. I'm looking other ways to suspend .. by C application or by a signal on GPIO To wakes up I notes different modes on different OSes: - linaro pressing power button, pressing a key on usb+bt keyboard, pressing usb+bt mouse button - dietpi - pressing power button - armbian minimal - nothing ? my guess is that the board shuts down Please con you confirm? Where does reside this different behaviors? Thanks, regards. PS: is …

Hello everyone, and Happy New Year. One question about Orange Pi 5 Plus: i have installed a wifi module (supported than what the official Orange documentation reports) AX210NGW in my Orange Pi 5 Plus main board with Operating System: Armbian 23.11.1 bookworm and Kernel: Linux 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx. I copied in /lib/firmware the firmware of the module (https://intel.ly/3S0QZrA). if from the terminal I run: lspci I see the device but in "Armbian-config" in hardware section don't see the wifi module, and I can't activate the module to surf the Internet or the local network in wifi. The question is: am I forgetting any steps to setup the wifi module cor…

Hi I am looking for a low power, fanless, solution for a Debian server with a single large 3.5" SATA drive. I don't want to boot from the SATA so I guess I'd buy an eMMC module as well. Currently I have an Orange Pi4 LTS with a weird expansion board and a generic Mini PCIe to SATA, but it isn't stable enough. Given that the Rock 5C has platinum support and works with the Penta SATA hat I'm wondering if it might be more reliable? thanks

Hey, I’m running armbian on a tinkerboard and I need to connect to a CAN-bus. Apparently the usual Linux CAN-kernel-modules aren’t shipped with armbian, so I guess I’ll have to add them manually somehow. I`ve been trying to do that for two days now without any luck. I’ve been trying to follow the steps described in other forums, but it haven’t helped. I really just want to add the necessary modules to my existing kernel. Any ideas?

How do I change the default desktop environment on Debian 12 startup from cinnamon to xfce4? Hiya, I am currently trying to setup some ROCK 5B boards as runners and as I install the latest Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) from here https://www.armbian.com/rock-5b/ it seems to get to where I configure my user etc, then on the next boot it gets stuck at kernal. So I guess before I go through trial and error , is there a recognised most stable build that can be relaibly flashed people would recommend, I found the Rock provided Debian and KDE Plasma to be very buggy and just kept locking up on me so something with Gnome would be cool for now , but will probably move to headless much further down the line. Amazing community reading the messages so far so thank y…

There's an issue with Panfrost and Mesa 19.3 that causes X11 to crash in "OsLookupColor" which you may run into on Armbian on RK3399 devices; it can be solved by enabling the experimental branch in your /etc/apt/sources.list by adding the following line: deb http://deb.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free You can then run 'apt update' and install experimental branch packages with 'apt -t experimental install <package>'. To fix the crash in X11, update the following from experimental: libegl-mesa0 libgbm1 libgl1-mesa-dri libglapi-mesa libglx-mesa0 mesa-va-drivers mesa-vdpau-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers This should allow X11 …

I've found information on how to use your own IR remote controller from this site: https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=215&t=44671 In short: 1. Enable logging from the IR kernel module, enter in a terminal: sudo -i echo 1 > /sys/module/rockchip_pwm_remotectl/parameters/code_print dmesg -w 2. Check if your remote is supported by pressing the keys on your remote. It should give you info like: [ 3485.342354] USERCODE=0xfb04 [ 3485.369309] RMC_GETDATA=fd 3. Download the overlay file below and edit the usercode and the code for each key. So for like with the key above it'll be 0xfd 4. Place the header f…

Hello, After several days of debug I put the finger on a very strange issue using integrated Ethernet. I use my Rockpro64 mostly as a Samba and DNS server. In my network context I implement 2 vlans as vlan interfaces (eth0.10 and eth0.20). Each of these interfaces needs to use a specific mac address that differs from physical eth0 mac address (it is an important point). If I use only the physical mac my router is not be able to route correctly between vlans (probably an ivl/svl issue). Under this context I first noticed that when I bring down eth0.20 although using vlan 10 (so eth0.10) connectivity is lost. I then wr…

Hi, this week my Rock 5 ITX+ board arrived and I started installing Armbian with vendor kernel (now on 6.1.99-vendor-rk35xx). This board has slightly different hardware than the original ITX. It has two M.2 M-key (2-lanes) instead of one M.2 M-key and four SATA ports. I think because of the different hardware configuration the DTB has to be changed as no SATA controller is present on the board. With the ITX DTB I am experiencing problems with not regonizing NVME disks when activating ASPM in armbianEnv.txt. I have no experience in editing DTBs or applying patches, so I need help to figure out what to do to make things work. …

Dear all, I got myself an Radxa Rock 5 ITX+ as I thought I'd saw that this board had premium support. After it arrived, I saw that only the ITX (non-plus) variant had premium support, which since latest Armbian release some days ago seems to has been downgraded to standard support. I cleared both the eMMC and SPI flash to make sure the preinstalled OS were gone and would not interfere with the boot up process. Then I built myself a latest image with trixie and vendor kernel but I realized that (after booting from sdcard successfully), the Nvme was never picked up. The ITX+ has two M.2 full-size slots instead of only one - and is missing th…

Hi there, I've been using ARMbian for a couple of years now under a Rock Pi S board. I'm using an ARMbian OS image based on kernel 4.4x because it have a virtual wlan interface called P2P0, this allow me to use the board as WiFi repeater, I've written a post about it here. However, in recent ARMbian OS images with kernel 5.x and 6.x that virtual interface isn't there. I see in ARMbian OS image with kernel 6.x that the WiFi Hotspot set up menu in the armbian-config tool show an interface called p2p0-dev, but it doesn't work. My question: why? these newer kernels have limitations on this board? or maybe need to compile the kernel with custom modifications?. …

the issue is as follows: 1. When using the Type-C interface to connect to an external monitor, the display works normally if the monitor is connected after the development board has started. 2. Hi everyone. I’ve been facing some issues with my RockPro64 lately, running on a dedicated version of Ambian for this sbc. Earlier, I was using a USB Bluetooth module with it for playing audio on my speakers (via Logitech Bluetooth adapter), and it worked perfectly fine. I wanted to save some USB ports so I decided to replace the module with a ROCKPro64 1*1 Dual Band WIFI 802.11 AC/BLUETOOTH 5.0 MODULE. But ever since I’ve done that, the audio quality is choppy and inconsistent. Receiver and transmitter are located closely, so I don’t think it’s a signal issue. It seems like a hardware or a software issue, but I’m not sure what could it be. I’d appreciate any help with …

Hello, I've used the Tinkerboard S (Rockchip RK3288) with the Armbian images available for download (https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/). Currently, the /dev/ttyS4 serial port is not available unless CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=5 when the Linux kernel is built since the serial ports are populated in /dev starting with /dev/ttyS0 and the last serial port to be populated is /dev/ttyS4. By default, CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=4. Some additional kernel settings are required to ensure that all of the available serial ports can be utilized. Moreover, I had to activate I2C4 in the device tree overlay using the Armbian configuration utility (https://docs.armbi…

Hi, I have been running armbian with the minmal debian trixie image on a odroid M1 for a few month now and I noticed that since I installed the image there has not been a single kernel upgrade. the kernel is still at 6.18.10 despite current debian install image for this board being shipped with 6.18.28 so I am assuming I am doing something wrong. The apt update and apt dist-upgrade logs show clearly all current package information are being downloaded from both debian and the armbian mirrors, and both armbian-config updates and upstream debian packages have been upgraded whenever I run the apt dist-upgrade commands, but the kernel is still the same old ve…

I have Rockchip 3288 board. As per the link: http://opensource.rock-chips.com/wiki_Graphics I checked the log at /var/log/Xorg.0.log and found glamor initialization failed. There is also log which says EGL_MESA_drm_image required, i checked x-server code and found this message lead to glamor initialization failed. Apart from these when i run glxinfo, it shows It means direct rendering is enabled. But when i run glxgears it consumed almost 18% CPU( So i think glxgear is not able to use GPU and performing all tasks at CPU). What i am to do: I have created a application which can decode H264 vid…

I will receive soon a Orange Pi 5 Plus. I have setup completely an Orange PI5 with Armbian. I had to recompile kernel, compile drivers ...... it took some time. If I run the Orange PI5 plus with the same SD card as the Orange Pi 5, would it work? If not, is there an easy thing to do to make it work? I think there is a device tree file hardware specific , but is it read when compiling the kernel or dynamically? I am asking because processors are very similar, and it would make my life easier! Your view will be appreciated. Thanks.

Introduction This guide describes a tested method for running Android, Armbian, and Ubuntu on the same NVMe SSD of the Orange Pi 5 Plus. This is not an official Orange Pi installation procedure. The entire workflow was developed through extensive real-world testing. The following configuration has been successfully verified: ✅ Android boots from the NVMe SSD. ✅ Armbian boots from the same NVMe SSD via UEFI. ✅ Ubuntu boots from the same NVMe SSD via UEFI. ✅ All three operating systems coexist on a single NVMe SSD. ✅ Armbian and Ubuntu share the same EFI partition. ✅ Android, Armbian, and Ubuntu can share a common data partition. 1. Hi. I've got a ROC-RK3399-PC SBC with a JMB585 PCIe to SATA extension card. Unfortunately PCIe always doesn't work on boot, whether it is in u-boot or kernel, with `PCIe link training gen1 timeout` error. Just as the following log: However, after I manually run these commands, PCIe seems working. ```modprobe -r pcie_rockchip_host modprobe pcie_rockchip_host ``` Kernel log: Does anyone have any idea about what is going on? Thanks in advance.

Hello! Is there a possibility to change the default LED0 behaviour of the RTL8201F PHY? Here is the Datasheet: https://file.elecfans.com/web1/M00/99/0F/o4YBAF0VytaAI7ezABH66fmIRIg854.pdf?filename=RTL8201F-VB-CG.pdf And this is the relevant register: It states, that "11" is the default - but I think it is changed to "00" during driver initialization - is that possible? I would like to change it to "01" - is this somehow possible without recompiling the driver? Thank you! Best regards, Manuel

**Board:** NanoPi M5 (RK3576) **Kernel:** 6.18.33-current-rockchip64 (#1 SMP PREEMPT Sat May 23 11:07:21 UTC 2026) **Armbian build:** v26.8.0-trunk.53 ## Problem Gigabit RX is completely non-functional on `end0` (GMAC0, `ethernet@2a220000`). The interface comes up at 1000Mb/s, TX works, but no packets are ever received. DHCP never gets an OFFER, `ethtool -S end0` shows RX counters stuck at zero. Forcing 100Mb/s via `ethtool -s end0 speed 100 duplex full autoneg off` works around the issue — RX starts working immediately. ## Root cause The DTB sets `phy-mode = "rgmii-id"` together with `rx_delay = <0x3f>`. I compiled Armbian Rock-5c bookworm vendor 6.1.99 minimal. WiFi driver extension radxa-aic8800.sh breaks Rock 5C vendor (kernel 6.1.99) boot. I compiled without the extension to confirm. Armbian_25.2.2_Rock-5-itx_noble_vendor_6.1.99_gnome_desktop.img.xz I first tried this, as it was the first version offered at the top of the page. No matter what I tried, sound would *not* work. Armbian_25.2.2_Rock-5-itx_bookworm_vendor_6.1.99_cinnamon-backported-mesa_desktop.img.xz And this one, sound *did* work, at least through the speaker jack anyway, but I suspect HDMI would too. I'm really suspecting something kernel related is going here (that "Rockchip BSP" note right above it makes me suspect that). In any case, I'd like…

Hi ChecMate, Just FYI I am seeing the same thing on an Orange Pi 4 LTS that I am setting up, what worked for me was to unplug the keyboard to let the boot start, then plug it in later. I tried 2 keyboards and both USB 2 & 3 ports, and the problem is consistent, if I boot with the kb plugged in the HDMI remains dead. Franck

Hi! I am looking into OdroidM1 network performance with kernel 6.6.47-current-rockchip64 ( 24.8.1 ) For some reason network performance is x10 faster (upstream) in bookworm and noble, when compared to jammy. Downstream performance is fine, delivering the same performance in jammy and the other distributions. Since all of them are using the same kernel, I assume that there must be some configuration that jammy is missing, or? Any idea about what could be going on?

Looking for information on enabling 4 wire SPI on the Libre Renegade. I have two renegade SBCs, both of them flash armbian_22.02, one bullseye, another focal with xfce. Bullseye on hardware viersion v1.0, Focal on v1.3. They both can't discovery USB3.0 devices through USB3.0 which plug before boot. I installed openmediavault, setting up share folders on USB3.0 mobile disk, test it can work properly, then reboot. After reboot, Disk can't be discoveryed, light on disk bright but not flash. I keep waiting 30 minutes, no external disk be found. And, they can discovery devices on USB3.0 which plug after booted. Yesterday I was happy to see the new and fresh Armbian release for the Rock 5 ITX after about 1 year from the last update. I also tried the Armbian Imager and the SD creation was very easy and smooth. I selected the recommended release based on Ubuntu 24.04 + Gnome desktop. Unfortunately when the desktop was about to start, everything when black, stucked and zero interface. On the other hand, the OS is alive and I can connect remotely via SSH. Did anyone have the same problem? Possible solution? [EDIT]. sudo systemctl restart gdm and desktop pops up. Restarting the system, black again.

Has anyone played with kvm or xen on the hw-virt capable rockchip devices? Im trying to setup a simple kvm scenario. Im using Armbian tinker stable and the excellent @Myy 4.13 kernel and have configured it for guest and host support. Im struggling to get the boards up in "Normal" (PL2 / Hyp) mode. I can only get them to boot in "Secure" mode, which is the normal method of boot. Secure boot disables access to Privilege Level 2 and the ARM Hypervisor which makes virtualisation impossible. I have tried setting "bootm_boot_mode=nonsec" but it makes no difference, I still get "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" during boot. Same as I get with "bootm_boot_mode=sec" wh…

I have an Orange Pi 5 (16GB RAM) running Armbian Jammy with the latest updates installed. I am booting from NVMe and when it boots successfully it runs flawlessly without issue. The problem occurs when I reboot -- the majority of the time it does not boot up successfully. Sometimes when it boots I only see the red light (and no green light), and other times I will see the green light flash like normal, yet the external hard drive does not spin up or mount properly. This results in me needing to power down the Orange Pi 5 and try again. Eventually it will boot up successfully (along with the external HDD) and then everything is good; that is, until the next time I have to …

Hello to all, I am using an HDMI switch. I have noticed that TinkerBoard Armbian, displays fine the UBOOT text/logo but after that, the HDMI shows no signal/image If I connect the HDMI cable directly from the board to the monitor all is ok. What would be the reason or setting to be changed so TinkerBoard HDMI port can output display either case (hdmi direct to over a hdmi switch) tx in advance

Hello, I'm planning on running a k3s cluster with Rook storage with a few of the Orange Pi 5 that I got. A prerequisite for rook however is RBD module. I've been able to recompile the kernel including RBD support, however I've been unable to get the device to boot from the new kernel. Rebooting after kernel has been built and installed still reports Linux 5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588. Any help would be appreciated. I've since wiped the boxes clean and have a fresh install booting from SSD with the OS installed on the NVMe attached so I will be able to provide any information required. Thanks!

My Orange Pi 5 appears to be completely dead. No lights turn on when the power is connected and the SD card is freshly imaged as well. This started happening when I connected a USB-C multi-port dongle with a connected PD power supply to it. Is it possible to revive this?

I put a TinkerBoard in a Pi-Top CEED and using TinkerOS 2.0.8 it boots and the LCD works fine. Using Armbian it looks like it boots but nothing is displayed on the LCD. The Pi-Top CEED uses a HDMI to 30-pin converter board and the current LCD is a 1920x1080 14in that I used to upgrade the original. Any ideas why the Raspberry running Raspbian and The Tinkerboard running TinkerOS would work with the display but Armbian wouldn’t?

On my Orange Pi 5, I have successfully installed the X11VNC server. I followed the guide at the following link X11VNC and everything works as expected. I can connect with Real VNC from another device and see the desktop of the Orange Pi as if I were in front of its display. However, when the Orange Pi 5 is powered on without a display connected to the HDMI port, the access with Real VNC doesn't work as before. I get a black screen and I am unable to interact with the Orange Pi. I had a similar issue with Raspberry Pi, where I could resolve it by setting a default screen resolution. How can I achieve this with Armbian? How can I configure an alternative resolution when the…
