Hello! I would like to know if it is possible to use the microUSB-Connector for connecting a USB device (a 7-port USB hub in my case)? My Tinkerboard is powered through the GPIO pins, so i don't use the microUSB for power input. Is it even possible from the hardware architecture of the board? Do i need some extra kernel packages and/or USB OTG to make it work? Thanks in advance, aElmecker

I'm running Armbian Jammy (23.02.2) aarch64, Xfce 4.16, Kernel: 5.15.93-rockchip64 on a Libre Renegade and would like to change the resolution to 1360x768. I have tried the Display Settings which only has 1280x720 and I can't change the scale, also I have tried changing the values in Settings Editor but that doesn't change anything. (DISPLAY=:0 xrandr -q) shows: xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 1280 x 720, current 1280 x 720, maximum 1280 x 720 default connected 1280x720+0+0 0mm x 0mm 1280x720 0.00* I have limited experience with XFCE and terminal commands, any help is appreciated thanks.

I have a couple Orange Pi's, and the HDMI is broken. I noticed that many believe that it is Armbian, but it is not. Orange Pi's probably won't be where we want them until 2025. I found a couple notes from development teams, one below and one from September. Both say the same thing: essentially it's in the works: "The RK3588 SoC family integrates the newer Synopsys DesignWare HDMI 2.1 Quad-Pixel (QP) TX controller IP and a HDMI/eDP TX Combo PHY based on a Samsung IP block. Add just the basic support for now, i.e. RGB output up to 4K@60Hz, without audio, CEC or any of the HDMI 2.1 specific features." https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-rockchip/pa…

Orange Pi 5 user here, got a new NVMe and decided to try the KDE Neon image for a first time, as it's reported that it's been tested and works: And it does -- until you do an apt update and reboot. Upon reboot, the graphical client and cursor appear but keeps popping up a bunch of error reporting windows, because KWin has crashed Just curious if anyone else wants to try it and confirm because you might want to remove that blurb Gnome image works great though, I've been running it full-time as a desktop with excellent stability and long long uptime

Hello, I have installed the Armbian 26.2 minimal IOT image based on Debian 13 Trixie - with the 6.18.x kernel - and I noticed the USB2 port (the single, vertical port next to the Ethernet port) is not working. Is this a limitation of the mainstream kernel (6.18.x) - i.e. does this work only with the vendor kernel (6.1.x) ? NB: I upgraded to 6.19 using the 'edge' kernel, but I'm seeing the same behavior. Here's the armbianmonitor outpur - https://paste.armbian.com/raw/udefojuxuk

I don t know for sure a wireless keyboard which works with the Orange Pi 5. Crosstalk Solutions says on his YouTube channel that the Rii (Upgrade) i4 Mini Bluetooth Keyboard with Touchpad, Blacklit Portable Wireless Keyboard with 2.4G USB dongle for Smartphones, PC, Table works with the Orange Pi 5: https://kit.co/crosstalk/orange-pi-5 But Crosstalk Solutions does not show a proof of function in his video, and I don t know anybody else who confirms a wireless keyboard who is working with the Orange Pi 5. When connected to some PC monitors, the image is larger than the physical screen: about 20 pixels at the top and bottom sides, and 50 pixels at the right and left sides are missing. This happens as soon as the board boots (without logo), the start of lines are truncated, and this also happens on text ttys (Ctrl + Alt + F1..6). I guess it's about a boot env variable, but I could not find it.

Hey All, I am running a rockpro64 and updated my kernel to 5.7 (linux-image-current-rockchip64 package), but I am not able to run ZFS any longer because ZFS/0.8.4 does not support 5.7 kernel and ZFS/2.0.0rc1 dkms gives me a build failure with linux-image-current-rockchip64 v20.08 (symbol "__stack_chk_guard" is undefined). I was able to build ZFS/2.0.0rc1 with linux-image-current-rockchip64=20.05.7. I am not able to downgrade my kernel because the apt-cache only shows the latest version of linux-image-current-rockchip64 available. Any suggestions on where I can get the old linux-image-current-rockchip64 package (v20.05.7)? Thanks in advance guys, lo…

Does anybody know how one could correct multichannel HDMI audio mapping in the current-rockchip64 build or kernel? When I run speaker-test -c6 -D plughw:0,0 on (kernel) 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx + (dtb) dtb-6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx Everything is mapped correctly and I hear audio from all the correct channels. When I run the same command on (kernel) 6.18.12-current-rockchip64 + (dtb) dtb-6.18.12-current-rockchip64 I get no audio on center and rear right channels (others are working). Is this a mistake or error in the DTB file of dtb-6.18.12-current-rockchip64 (rk3588s-nanopi-r6s.dtb) ? How can we correct this?

The NanoPi R3S contains a hardware clock (HYM8563) with the possibility to connect a backup battery. However, the current kernel adds this clock as an additional one (RTC1). I tried to create a device tree overlay, but it does not work. As I understand it, this is because the default Rockchip clock is not included in the device tree. So, if I understand correctly, the only way to make the HYM8563 the default clock is to build the kernel with this option enabled. Please consider changing the default kernel options to make the HYM8563 the default RTC. If there’s another way to make the HYM8563 the default RTC, please advise.

Hi I have a Philips pcf8563 RTC that connects to i2c-1. Could you please add support for RTC modules please particularly the pcf8563 and the DS1307 as these seem to be the most popular although some more models would be welcome. I have been trying to create a dtb with a previous kernel that included the needed modules but failed to get it to compile. I even tried adding it to the main device tree with no such luck. I know it's not been talked about much but would love to get RTC working on the tinkerboard. For those that haven't noticed the RK808 power management chip on the tinkerboard has RTC capability built in and even has the drive…

I just started RockPro64'ing (though been using Linux for about 25 years) and bought the low profile fan with the RockPro64. Armbian (downloaded today) installed fine, sees my NVME etc. so all good. The only issue I have is that once the OS starts up the fan comes on and never stops - it seems to be running 100% all the time. It the speed meant to vary? And is it meant to turn off sometimes when not required? I'm wondering if I am I missing a config file entry for this. Thanks for any assistance and well done on the distro.

Hi all, I'm trying to debug a sporadic problem with my Orange Pi 5 (16GB) which I'm unable to reproduce. I'm hoping maybe someone else experienced a similar issue or at least has any pointers on how to debug it further. The problem: At random times of the day, the board just appears to freeze up. All communications stop. Board is powered on, with red LED on and green LED off. I have to manually unplug the device to reset it. Within the last 2 weeks, this happened 3 times already. Each time, the last log appears to be a journalctl flush (example: https://pastebin.com/dDm5Xtis - the board froze at midnight, no more logs until …

Jellyfin is running in Docker, and transcoding works perfectly, except for some movies. I tried to play a 4K video in Chrome (native HEVC support), set the bitrate to 40mbps, and the video played normally at a transcoding speed of about 3x, but after a while, Orange Pi crashed. In Firefox inside neko (where there is no hardware acceleration and HEVC), the crash happened even faster, after ~2 seconds of playback. The crash happens as if the board loses power: journalctl is not saved, nothing is …

I have a recently commissioned Radxa Rock-5B that I use as my PXE host. It has a number of iso images that are loopback mounted on directories like /var/www/html/mirrors/Fedora-44. Hello folks, I happily run Armbian Jammy XFCE on my much beloved Meko box (with at least SOME hardware accel) and Bookworm on Orange Pi 5. Both run excellent, but Jammy/xfce is a bit more snappy. probably because of partly harware accell. On the Meko R3588 4Gb box I installed Docker, Portainer, MQTT server container, Home Assistant container. All is well. I operate my boxes via RealVNC, so that it also will work seemlessly when VPN is active. The containers are so extremely light that they hardly take a few percent CPU. Home Assistant container takes 0,5Gig or so, MQTT server takes 0.1Gig. My first encounter with docker is very positive! Next I will try to add open VPN an…

Hi all, reporting a regression in new Armbian 24.2.1 kernel version. New kernel is causing Orange Pi 4 LPS not to boot most of the time, when it boots, then there is no network. Kernel hangs with oops errors on the screen, and all debugging stuff. Sorry that I did not caught any of them on my phone, but it would have been incomplete anyway. How to reproduce: Install any 24.2.1 based system on Orange Pi 4 LTS Upon first boot, you will have issues. No Ethernet network. Second boot will most likely not succeed no matter what you do and system will brick permanently, by not booting at all (no video output), or booting and then showing kernel crash. …

I recently bought an orange pi plus and am using the armbian 6.12 server (https://dl.armbian.com/orangepi5-plus/Noble_current_server) I'm wanting to setup hardware acceleration for jellyfin but having trouble with the right steps. I'm using jellyfin inside docker on the orange pi inside armbian. I've found various tutorials but it seems like some of them reference things that no longer exist (like panfork seems to no longer be needed for latest mesa if I'm understanding correctly?), so wanting to see what I need to do to set this up. So it seems like I need to disable panthor and use mali instead, but I can't find in the armbian config menu the opt…

I need to move my homeassistant from rpi4 to an opi5 but I have some I2C sensors connected. Had anyone any luck configuring python and gpio to work with I2C sensors? This was a bit rough a while ago and the kernel support seems much more limited compared to the rpi4 for this type of use case. Any experience?

Hi friends, back to the Gnome version which works incredibly well It works so well that I put my big desktop tower away and have been getting by strictly on this Armbian Gnome environment. I will be donating to Armbian soon However, I am curious, does anybody know how to fix the resume from suspend? For me, the computer goes into suspend mode just fine, but when I tap a keyboard key, the LED's will light on the keyboard indicating they have power, but the system never comes back. If I press the power button on the Orange Pi 5 itself, the system resumes perfectly -- no crashes, everything works as intended I just need it to …

Starting a new thread after this one solved my question: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/15044-how-to-re-format-and-remount-and-redo-lvm-volume-on-ssd/?tab=comments#comment-107672 but taking care of those things wasn't the root cause. it turns out the drive wasn't unmounted cleanly after accidentally unplugging the power cable from the board. I had a drive setup using: pvcreate /dev/nvme0n1 vgcreate rockpro64 /dev/nvme0n1 lvcreate -n <name> -L 500g rockpro64 then i formatted like this: mkfs.ext4 /dev/rockpro64/name but then i accidentally unplugged the power source while i got my system up and running it wasn't cleanly unmounte…

Good afternoon everyone. Please help me with my problem. I have a Radha board zero 3w and I use the Armbian distrib. 24.8.1 . Everything works fine, except that I can't activate SPI. In the Armbian-config menu there is no hardware section (I tried different flash cards and Armbian versions, the problem persists), I also tried to edit the armbianEnv.txt and add overlays there, but I also did not have success. Tell me what else I can try. Activation works on the native distribution radxa debian.

*Updated 7-23* ~~All kernels should be fixed at this point, Legacy, Next, and Dev.~~ The ASUS Tinker Board has a big problem with rebooting properly, centered around the SD card power supplies. Upon issuing a shutdown request, the kernel is turning everything off , including the vmmc regulator. To make matters worse, vqmmc is set to 1.8 Volts if you use a UHS SD card, and the kernel is not switching it back to 3.3 volts before rebooting, which is required if the Rockchip boot ROM is to communicate with the device. The result is a hung board in MaskROM mode. For the Default kernel (4.4), a patch was carried over from the vendor softwa…

I bought a Pinebook Pro two weeks ago. It came with Manjaro KDE preinstalled on EMMC. I wanted to try out Armbian, so I downloaded the Bookworm XFCE image from May 27th. In order to get the SD booted, I first flashed Tow-Boot for Pinebook Pro (pine64-pinebookPro-2021.10-005.tar.xz) from github Tow-Boot to the SPI. Then during boot after pressing ESC the menu lets you select the SD card for boot. The first boot to Armbian worked well. I could set up user, timezone and everything. The XFCE desktop looks very clean with a reasonable selection of software. Well done, team! But after I upgrade the system with apt update & upgrade, the next time the machine is b…

I don't know why, I think after doing "sudo apt update/upgrade" (but I'm not sure), the wiringOP library on "orange pi 5" with Armbian 23.02.2 doesn't work anymore. If I run the command "sudo gpio readall" I get the following output: Oops: Unable to determine board revision from /proc/device-tree/system/linux,revision or from /proc/cpuinfo -> No "Hardware" line -> You'd best google the error to find out why. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Hello, I am using the armbian kernel+uboot patchset of the rockchip-next (4.14.x) part to support Tinkerboard+TinkerboardS in an own home automation environment. U-Boot 2018.05 and kernel 4.14.53 are working fine so far with the current patchset published on GitHub (thanks for this great work!). However, the only issue I am still having is, that the ethernet port always comes up with "no-link" on the intial powerup of the Tinkerboard. As soon as I software reboot it after the initial powerup the ethernet port perfectly comes up with a link and I am able to setup all IP data, etc. But as soon as I completely power down the system and replug the power-cable it a…

Hi! I'm using Armbian with Ayufan's 5.3.0rc4 kernel (until ~1 month ago when I decided to freeze the dev kernels, they were not able to expose the pwmon for the fan that I need to keep running to cool my nas case). But I've seen lots of updates flying around about uboot. So I am wondering: are there significant improvements to uboot? I am currently using an old version of uboot on the SPI flash (so it is a little painful to test new version) and I am wondering if I should disable my SPI in order to have uboot on my emmc (to boot off the emmc) or if there is even a newer option to reflash my spi with a newer uboot... Thanks, Mathias PS: so…

I have Tinker Board S. I have been using both Tinker OS and Armbian for a while. Recently I upgraded to 5.4.28-rockchip. I noticed that randomly and frequently when I watch cnn.com or other media, my video would freeze. Initially I thought the firefox or chromium crashes. However, later, I realized it was the network issue. Other devices were still able to connect to the internet. When I checked the ifconfig, the network devices still showed proper connection. However, there is no way to ping any URLs. Disconnecting/reconnecting network does not fix the issue. The only fix was reboot. How can I troubleshoot this issue? Hi, I have orange pi 5. I searched all over internet for information how to set on startup/power on GPIO pins behavior, but i cannot find anything. Most of GPIO pins are set to IN mode 1. Sadly I need them to output mode 1. I am scared something could burn this way since i set them to though wiringPI after kernel boot sequence is complete. Can some one give information how I can set them up at earlier point when I power on the board? I found that DTB/DTS file could do it. But there is no clear information / pin addresses I should set. Thanks in advance! Regards!

I've compiled mainline kernel 6.6 which runs well on my OrangePi/RK3399. The only problem left is getting H.264 decoding working. Unfortunately, when I query /dev/video1 which is the node created by the hantro-vpu driver, only MPEG2 and VP8 are shown as supported codecs for decoding. No H.264, even though I've read many places that the mainline hantro driver supports H.264. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something else I need to do to get this working?

I have a RockPro64 that I have been using for many years as a server. It is currently running Armbian bookworm 12.5. I still have a problem configuring the wifi hotspot on the armbian distribution for tinkerboard. The hotspot is clearly unstable. So none of my computers can't connect to it and my phones and tablets have a unstable connection. I thought having found a turnover using a call to iw with a frequency of 1s. This was reactivating the wifi for some times (that should simulate a continuous connection) but it looks that it doesn't work anymore. So I am stuck with that, I am unable to configure a stable hotspot. Is there something to do with the rtl8723 driver, or have I no hope to make it works ?

As discussed on multiple threads, the aim of this thread is to bring all RockChip devices under one BSP (4.4) Kernel. This discussion can be found (partly): and a bit background here: https://github.com/rockchip-linux/kernel/issues/98 Cause I'm not willing to cut out all this stuff from the related threads (this would end in a complete disaster) I try to summarize it here (if something is missing, let me know I'll add it): RockChips BSP kernel is not longer an option. Cause it breaks faster that our current resources allow to fix it. Having all SoCs under one kernelsource would make it more predictable and decrease the efforts needed to keep…

Not an issue nor a bug nor a trouble abour my Orange pi or Armbian. I wanted to build my "own" armbian for educational purpose. I mean to raise my knowledge. I followed this page. https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Switches/ however since it's done. I'm looking for about how to make the *.img file or if I can use *.deb located in my ~/build/output/debs I just miss these informations to finish and trying my failure compilation. I say failure compilation because "first time" is always a fail By the way, if I posted in the wrong place. Delete my post and please accept my apologies.

Hello, I cloned the master branch of WiringOP one month ago, it reported same version 2.46 and it was working except for the option to activate internal pull up/down. Trying it in C code using: pullUpDnControl(n, PUD_DOWN); or by terminal with: gpio mode 1 down same behavior, nothing happen.. by default, unfortunately in my case, it seem active a pull up resistor for all inputs. I searched on the web and found there was a bug, fixed. I checked again the main branch and in effect it is different now, the new code is: *(gpio + GPPUD) = pud & 3 ; delayMicroseconds (5) ; *(gpio + gpioToPUDCLK [pin]) = 1 <&…

I've been using a few Rock Pi S devices as snapcast clients and after updating them to Armbian 24.8.2 audio does not work anymore. This seems similar to this old post (fix PR). Also, this PR may be a relevant to the issue. https://paste.armbian.com/aziwayelen $ snapclient --host [REDACTED] 2024-09-17 09-28-10.435 [Error] (Snapclient) PCM device "default" not found 2024-09-17 09-28-10.436 [Info] (Snapclient) Version 0.26.0 2024-09-17 09-28-10.437 [Info] (Connection) Resolving host IP for: [REDACTED] 2024-09-17 09-28-10.440 [Info] (Connection) Connecting 2024-09-17 09-28-10.442 [Notice] (Connection) Connected to 192.168.0.100 20…

I've had an OrangePi4 LTS with a 7-inch IPS LCD HDMI jRP7007 external display for three years. Always used it with the stock OrangePi operating system: Debian Bullseye xfce (2022). I had Home Assistant installed and used a desktop client to view cameras and control lights from the touchscreen. Always looked good, and the only problem I had was that Debian didn't have power options, so I couldn't turn off the display; I had to do it manually with a button. The October Home Assistant update completely broke my H.A., it stopped running completely, and when I tried to reinstall it, it threw up errors due to broken dependencies. I tried to repair them, but nothing w…
