  1. I'm using Armbian_5.32.170920_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.13.0_desktop.img (yes I know it's a nightly) and it works great. However if I run "apt-get upgrade" something gets "upgraded" and the display no longer works. I've tested this on multiple tinkerboards with the same results. The tinkerboard is running, I can ssh into it. Just no display. dmesg output: Spoiler armbian@tinkerboard:~$ dmesg [ 0.000000] Booting Linux on physical CPU 0x500 [ 0.000000] Linux version 4.14.0-rc1-rockchip (root@armbian) (gcc version 5.4.0 20160609 (Ubuntu/Linaro 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.4)) #2 SMP PREEMPT Wed Sep 20 11:37:48 CEST 2017 [ 0.000000] CPU…

  2. I am trying to get the ARM performance assessment setup working (I'm trying to get Mali profiling for OpenCL code) on the Rock 5B+, and I've hit a blocker. The main component to this is some kernel configuration (CONFIG_ARM_SPE_PMU) and a loadable module. Oddly, those work fine in a custom kernel build. What I am hitting appears to be some missing interrupt setup that renders all those components inert. (It has to be a custom build to get CONFIG_ARM_SPE_PMU set. The issue is that even with the kernel configured and the module loaded, the SPE component remains inactive. ARM has its own system report tool which analyzes a setup, and that tool is re…

  3. Thank you all for this series of notes. I have been operating Armbian 22.08 successfully using the sd card on my PBP and like it BUT I would like to boot from emm. I have tried dozens of ways to install it to no avail. Seems to be associated with the rootdev=UUID=... If I use the UUID provided in the Armbian-install then I can boot from emm but it ends up mounting and running from the SD partition. Is there any code that can be inserted into the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file that would provide better diagnostics? To me it appears as if the emm partitions UUID is not available at boot time. Thanks, Carl

  4. Hello, I've installed the 22.11 version with the 5.15 kernel on the microSD card. I've a rockpro64 with the SSD adapter and a WD black 250GB nvme. The system doesn't recognizes this drive. I've tested the latest stable ayufan image (kernel 4.4) and it recognises it perfectly. Should I downgrade the kernel to the 4.4 branch? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

  5. I decided to try the new Armbian 23.02 Jammy Gnome build and after booting with my SD card, the process gets to a point where it presents a prompt orangepi5 login: and whatever I attempt to enter returns as an incorrect login. I can't find any specific documentation which indicates the default login credentials for this build.

  9. On Tinkerboard S, I installed Armbian 24.5.1 Noble XFCE to mmc and tried again with an SD card after having trouble. The desktop does not respond to 2 different keyboards I have tried. If I use a mouse to open Terminal, the keyboards do work in the Terminal. If I try to open Web Browser in the applications menu, I get a window saying "Failed to execute Web Browser. Input/output error." apt update and apt upgrade do not fix the problem. Here is a log: https://paste.armbian.com/onikesixam

  10. I downloaded and flashed the three images of Armbian 24.8.1 (Noble GNOME, Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy and Debian 12 Bookworm) on the Banana Pi M7, connected to the computer via serial console. The three images are these: Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_noble_vendor_6.1.75_gnome-kisak_desktop.img Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_jammy_vendor_6.1.75_kde-neon-kisak_desktop.img Armbian_24.8.1_Bananapim7_bookworm_vendor_6.1.75_cinnamon-backported-mesa_desktop.img For each image, I booted and logged the board output. The board fails to successfully boot and instead gets stuck in a boot loop. I then mounted the armbi_root partition and edited the file armb…

  11. Yesterday I was happy to see the new and fresh Armbian release for the Rock 5 ITX after about 1 year from the last update. I also tried the Armbian Imager and the SD creation was very easy and smooth. I selected the recommended release based on Ubuntu 24.04 + Gnome desktop. Unfortunately when the desktop was about to start, everything when black, stucked and zero interface. On the other hand, the OS is alive and I can connect remotely via SSH. Did anyone have the same problem? Possible solution? [EDIT]. sudo systemctl restart gdm and desktop pops up. Restarting the system, black again.

  12. Last week installed Armbian for the first time on my Pinebook Pro that was basically bricked from Manjaro. Everything worked great! Audio is a little weak, but will look into that later. Today I pulled down the 25.2.1/6.12.16 update. On booting in Grub, I now get a message "Loading Device Tree Blob...", followed by "Error: not a regular file Press any key to continue". The boot then continues after a bit, and system seems to work fine from a user perspective after that (posting this from the machine). But there are some rockchip-pcie, rk3399-dmc-freq and brcmf errors in the armbianmonitor output (attached url) . I'm an Armbian noob, so dunno if the…

  14. I updated to Armbian 26.2.1 on OPi5, and it can't boot from MTD (rootfs at NVMe), and I have to use SD card to boot to NVMe as workaround. After looking into this issue, I found rkspi_loader.img is no longer available for current (6.18.8 kernel) u-boot pkg and armbian-config flashes u-boot-rockchip-spi.bin ( or similar sata version) to /dev/mtdblock0 and I think this is wrong image for MTD bootloader. If I use older vendor image, which u-boot pkg has rkspi_loader.img, system can boot to NVMe rootfs and I notice that /dev/mtdblock0 has several gpt partitions including u-boot one, and flashing u-boot-rockchip-spi.bin erases partitions in SPI flash. I…

  15. Got quite excited seen that the wifi driver is finally available and was going to test the browser and graphic acceleration in the current kernel but I flashed 3 times the Desktop image with Gnome/Current 6.18.33 and it did not boot. Is there possibly an issue with u-boot?

  16. Hi, has any of you some experience connecting a Hifiberry Amp+ to a Tinkerboard - on Hifiberry pages this is now a possible connecting but I miss a howto and would really appreciate a quick start on this. Have previously succeed with Raspberry 3 and IQaudio - but intend to take a step further and do a project being more than just an amplifier. After testing several OS I have to admit Armbian has become my favorite and it is within this OS I hope to achieve this.

  18. Hello, I own a Tinker Board S (bought one or two years ago) attached to a Sony Bravia KDL 22EX320 TV by HDMI, which has a native resolution of 1388x768 pixels. Bionic desktop with kernel 5.4 (got from https://dl.armbian.com/tinkerboard/Bionic_current_desktop) didn't properly recognize the TV resolution, but set it to 1920x1024. If I run xrandr --props the resolution is not listed. I'm posting because I'm almost sure that the old TinkerOS 2.0.8 (that I installed with the board) recognized the TV resolution correctly - it anyway boots to desktop without requiring interaction, so not being able to read the text at the edges of the console …

  20. I would love to use Armbian Build to construct a Debian 12 Bookworm images with KDE Plasma as the windows manager. I note that KDE Plasma isn't an option in the armbian builder. I have no problem building with XFCE or Cinnamon.

  21. I'm adding this here as I want to contribute to the community, but I'm still not sure how. I've been playing with Armbian Build lately and found it's great for quick build images for testing purposes before it's officially made available. So I started build my own images with i3, mate, kde, and I noticed that, in my personal taste, the one that was better suited for my needs was Sway, but there's no desktop image with it. So I built a Server version and start installing it. I know it may not be of interest of everybody, so I was planning to do it for myself, so I can continue building with the interface, but having Sway "automatically" installed. …

  24. Hello! I'm trying to get Armbian jammy latest to boot on my new RockPro64. I've tried both the CLI and XFCE images, flashed with Balena to a good SanDisk uSD card. Both boot into U-Boot but then fail to find a partition on mmc 1. Checking the SD card there's only 1 Linux partition and no FAT one. I tested with a Debian image on the same SD card (DOS + Linux Partition) and it booted into the installer no problem. Any ideas? Thanks! It is not likely reservation. also tried with bookworm the result is same 3gb. with noble minimal the board doesn't boot at all. what can i do to make os detect all 4 gbs. Maybe there was some similar issue before and i missed? Many thanks, appreciate any help!

with clean install of armbian plus those 4 lines to install hardware acceleration glmark2-es2 gives score of about 800-900, about less then 25% of performance opi5 is capable. is it possible to raise that a bit, not all the way but just a bit more without instaling gnome or wayland, just to keep armbian as clean as its possible. as it is, its stable but barely(they do run) able to run 4k youtube oe 4k mkv, as soon as there is gnome and wayland it starts to crash, joshua rieks version, monka, armbian with all the drivers, any i tried it would crash eventualy.

  34. I somewhat recently used Armbian Build to compile a desktop Bookworm image, which is quite stable and functional except for EMMC support. Packages: Debian stable (bookworm) Support: DIY (custom image) Linux Atlas 6.1.84-vendor-rk35xx #1 SMP Tue Dec 24 13:36:04 UTC 2024 aarch64 GNU/Linux My question is where can one find the current status of the various kernel versions support for features like I2C, SPI, EMMC, MESA, etc.? I recognize that newer kernels like 6.12.yyy are very much a WIP. I also would love more information on the the RK3588 kit used with kernels to backport features.

But I've seen lots of updates flying around about uboot. So I am wondering: are there significant improvements to uboot? I am currently using an old version of uboot on the SPI flash (so it is a little painful to test new version) and I am wondering if I should disable my SPI in order to have uboot on my emmc (to boot off the emmc) or if there is even a newer option to reflash my spi with a newer uboot... Logging into Armbian on the RockPRO then works fine via ssh, can do the setup, update etc. So it looks like a problem with HDMI output? Anyone ideas how to solve this? Would like to have console terminal access via HDMI as last resort Thanks in advance! p.s. Just tried the Armbian_20.08_Rockpro64_focal_current_5.7.15_desktop which seems to have t…

  52. On an orangepi 5 this image failed to post. Armbian_25.8.2_Orangepi5_noble_vendor_6.1.115.img.xz worked just fine via balena etcher and booting from a nvme.

  53. So I have downloaded several versions of Armbian for Tinkerboard using BullsEye and Yammy. Not one creates a working Access Point. The Bullseye version ends with a message that the hotspot has been activated but nothing appears. The yammy version fails with a message there is no usable driver for hostapd. It appears there are a lot of issues with this function. Why not leave it out or document which boards the feature doesn't support. It would save a lot of time going down rabbit holes.

  55. I am waiting on my opi5 but was already investigating how to run Roblox (an x86 32 bit Windows game) on it. Grapejuice + box86 + wine could do the trick and saw this interesting script: https://github.com/NicoD-SBC/armbian-gaming Will this be working for opi5 too or is it specific to rk3399 (saw that in some compiler flags)? Anybody experience or an updated installer script? Related info: This YouTube channel covers examples of running games on rk3588 (rock5b) making me believe performance could be quite good: https://youtube.com/@TheByteman

  56. Hey everyone. New to Armbian and Orange Pi, but no stranger to everything I ever try do do being a major hassle! So here's the deal. Installed Armbian jammy 5.1 for orange pi plus. Working nicely. Except some of you might remember me from earlier today when I was struggling to get my ax210ngw working correctly (thanks by the way. Fixed that)! So I follow the process to switch from SD card to my Samsung 980 pro 1tb nvme. Bit of confusion getting it to show as an option in armbian-install, but I got it. Formatted in ext4 with a partition via gparted--now every time I try to run the install script, no matter which option I choose, it either freezes or…

  68. *Updated 7-23* ~~All kernels should be fixed at this point, Legacy, Next, and Dev.~~ The ASUS Tinker Board has a big problem with rebooting properly, centered around the SD card power supplies. Upon issuing a shutdown request, the kernel is turning everything off , including the vmmc regulator. To make matters worse, vqmmc is set to 1.8 Volts if you use a UHS SD card, and the kernel is not switching it back to 3.3 volts before rebooting, which is required if the Rockchip boot ROM is to communicate with the device. The result is a hung board in MaskROM mode. For the Default kernel (4.4), a patch was carried over from the vendor softwa…

I'm not planning to unmount and use the hard drive to another PC (for example: windows PC) So I'm ready to format it with FileSystem that fully optimizes on Linux (I'm using armbian noble) so ext4 or xfs? Hello all, I have noticed that whenever I reboot my Orange Pi 5 board, all the 8 cpus slow down to 408 Mhz with no range, as stated by cpufreq-info: I have created a cronjob script in order to bring the frequency back to acceptable range. 97. Hey there, I now have my Nanopi R4S for quite a while but never got it to run stable over a longer period of time.
