Last week installed Armbian for the first time on my Pinebook Pro that was basically bricked from Manjaro. Everything worked great! Audio is a little weak, but will look into that later. Today I pulled down the 25.2.1/6.12.16 update. On booting in Grub, I now get a message "Loading Device Tree Blob...", followed by "Error: not a regular file Press any key to continue". The boot then continues after a bit, and system seems to work fine from a user perspective after that (posting this from the machine). But there are some rockchip-pcie, rk3399-dmc-freq and brcmf errors in the armbianmonitor output (attached url) . I'm an Armbian noob, so dunno if the…

Hi, I'm trying to get h264 encoding working but VAINFO keeps searching for rockchip_drv_video.so which is nowhere to be found on my system. Is there a way to get h264 encoding working with armbian OR do I have to use radxa oses (or the ubuntu version provided by Joshua Riek) ? Thanks.

I have been trying for days now to update my device and all goes well until i get to 'beta.armbian.com:80 (130.185.239.78)' and then it will not update and stays at 0%. i have tried on different! installations and on different devices even a new installation but the same problem occurs. It used to work fine until a couple of days ago! I have even tried turning off all security on my router but no change. Is there a reason for this , if so is there anything i can do to correct it?

Been using 24.11.1 Bookworm for a while, but yesterday did an apt update && apt upgrade, only to find that the resulting image would no longer boot. No "activity" light at all on the front on reboot. Downloaded 25.5.0 Trixie "just to see", but it doesn't boot either. What happened after 24.11.4? Is there something different I should be doing if I want to run a later version of Armbian?

Hello, I read about raxda zero3E edge support, and because I'm having problems with img-6.12.9+bpo-arm64-16k (wireguard dependency) Do you think I could resonably try the edge version and then, I understand that I have to install armbian-bsp-cli-radxa-zero3-edge linux-u-boot-radxa-zero3-edge linux-headers-edge-rockchip64 Is there more to install ? or less ? And, does I have to remove old (vendor) kernel version before ?

Sorry bad English. I advise that I'm a noob. I have a MKS TS35 v2.0, that uses ST7796/ILI9341 (or ILI9486, I think) for LCD and ADS7843E for touch, and now I want to use it in my Asus Tinker Board for Klipper. I know that it's possible because exists one HOW-TO of this for Raspberry Pi 3b+. I wanna that someone, with knowledge in Armbian and Tinker Board, build (adapt) this DTS on GITHUB https://github.com/fbeltrao-br/mksts35/blob/main/mksts35v2.dts. I want this especially because the pinout https://github.com/fbeltrao-br/mksts35/blob/main/pinout.png, that is more easy for me understand what pins I need connect.

I compiled Armbian Rock-5c bookworm vendor 6.1.99 minimal. WiFi driver extension radxa-aic8800.sh breaks Rock 5C vendor (kernel 6.1.99) boot. I compiled without the extension to confirm. The radxa-aic8800 driver has recently been modified in the download source. I modified radxa-aic8800.sh to download the previous driver version "3.0+git20240327.3561b08f-2" and this does not fix the issue. Ref: Jira AR-2603 Logs attached. Hi, after upgrading to Armbian 24.11.3 noble with 6.1 Kernel I have this problem that every time I turn off my TV that is connected to OPI with HDMI, then turning it back on again it will never have a HDMI signal. Same thing happens when I unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in. I can reproduce it every single time - not just occasionally. It is not a hardware or cable problem, the exact same setup has worked flawlessly for long time with older Armbian and 5.1 kernel. I tried disabling all of the KDE power saving settings, also totally disabled kpowerdevil - with no change. SSH still works fine, the OS has not crashed. …

Hi, I've been compiling my own Armbian images since 6.13-rc5, and now 6.13 and I noticed that when I compile i3, youtube videos and webgl tests don't work as great when I compile i3 with mesa-vpu as it does when I compile e.g., cinnamon. I also noticed that the suffix is not -mesa-desktop, only -desktop. Is it as per design and i3 doesn't include mesa at all, or is it some kind of bug? Thanks!

There's a strange issue with my orange pi 5 plus. When I boot into the ubuntu image, everything is fast, stable and zippy. But when I boot into the openmediavault image, it's incredibly slow. Simple operations like apt upgrade crawl. I noticed the cpu frequency is stuck at 408 MHz in htop in the openmediavault image. I ran a test. I opened another console and ran yes. Went back to htop and the frequency was still stuck at 408 MHz with one core pegged at 100% from the yes. So I fired up the ubuntu image and did the same thing. The core was at 100% but the frequency was at 2304mhz on that core. There is something wrong with the openmediavault …

I have an encrypted root partition, and on booting, it asks me for the passphrase to decrypt it. This was shown on the screen when I was using the 6.6.47 kernel, but on the 6.12.11 kernel, nothing is shown on the screen at all until I've successfully typed the passphrase and it's started booting. Here's the armbianmonitor -u output for the working 6.6.47 kernel: https://paste.next.armbian.com/suporamoqe And here's the output for the not-quite-so-working 6.12.11 kernel: https://paste.armbian.de/cuxaxoweci This isn't a huge deal for me, since I usually close my eyes while typing the passphrase anyway, but it means I have to guess when it…

I'm adding this here as I want to contribute to the community, but I'm still not sure how. I've been playing with Armbian Build lately and found it's great for quick build images for testing purposes before it's officially made available. So I started build my own images with i3, mate, kde, and I noticed that, in my personal taste, the one that was better suited for my needs was Sway, but there's no desktop image with it. So I built a Server version and start installing it. I know it may not be of interest of everybody, so I was planning to do it for myself, so I can continue building with the interface, but having Sway "automatically" installed. …

Hi everyone, I've been working with Armbian for a while on my Rock Pi S, I got to a stable situation on version 24.11.1 with kernel 6.6.63 where everything worked perfectly... but recently this last week I applied an apt upgrade, which applied strong base modifications (linux-current-rockchip64 and dtbo going from 24.11.1 to 24.11.3), after applying this update and rebooting, I can't get it to boot again, either from the Micro SD or from the eMMC installation. I wanted to report this bug, but I don't have a TTL cable at hand to be able to do the corresponding debugging... I've tried to flash older versions, or even flash the 24.11.1 version again …

Is anyone using the current Kodi Flatpak, Omega? I'm having issues viewing videos that have pixel format of yuv420p10le with the current apt repository Kodi Nexus. I thought to try Kodi Flatpak and it worked and I was able to view those yuv420p10le videos without issue. However, it was choppy and had high CPU usage...around 80% on many of the CPUs. I'm trying to figure that out. It's happening on all types of videos. All is played using software decoding. I've never gotten hardware decoding working. In the Kodi Nexus version I'm using it also software decoding but very low CPU usage. In any case, just want to see what experiences …

Hello again, Based on the recommendations provided in a previous ticket, I have decided to attempt to build a custom image for the Orangepi 5 Plus. I somewhat recently used Armbian Build to compile a desktop Bookworm image, which is quite stable and functional except for EMMC support. Packages: Debian stable (bookworm) Support: DIY (custom image) Linux Atlas 6.1.84-vendor-rk35xx #1 SMP Tue Dec 24 13:36:04 UTC 2024 aarch64 GNU/Linux My question is where can one find the current status of the various kernel versions support for features like I2C, SPI, EMMC, MESA, etc.? I recognize that newer kernels like 6.12.yyy are very much a WIP. I also would love more information on the the RK3588 kit used with kernels to backport features.

Was using my Orange Pi 5 and it rebooted on it's own. After that, it continually reboots. Been running fine for months. Tried restarting a few times. Tried swapping SD cards. It looks like the power supply is OK, although I'll try swapping with another. I had just backed up the SD Card too. I'll try re-imaging an SD card, but I'm thinking the SD card may not be the issue. I hooked up my UART and captured output. At the end of each loop, it looks like it's saying "Starting Kernel" and then restarting. Captured output follows. Any ideas, suggestions or comments on what's happening. I'm thinking it's probably a hardware issue. I …

I can't seem to get UART to work on Radxa Zero 3W System info https://paste.next.armbian.com/savaleceqe The usual enable UART options (that I see with other boards) do not show up under armbian-config->System->Kernel->Manage Device Tree Overlays. I am suspecting 6.12 has enabled more hardware in the OPi5+ and this is the reason. Is there a way to disable some of the HW to low…

I followed this page. https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Switches/ however since it's done. I'm looking for about how to make the *.img file or if I can use *.deb located in my ~/build/output/debs I just miss these informations to finish and trying my failure compilation. I say failure compilation because "first time" is always a fail By the way, if I posted in the wrong place. Delete my post and please accept my apologies.

I have an Armbian installation on the NVMe drive and I'm trying to switch back to boot from SD card. In `armbian-config` I messed up the boot settings by leaving the root fs type unchanged, (SD card is in fat32 but NVMe partition is ext4). Now the board boots into initramfs prompt. Here's what I've already tried based on search and ChatGPT: Mount the NVMe partition to `/mnt` then chroot to it, this did work but the `/boot` partition was not mounted inside of the chroot so I can't fix boot env. I also tried `switch_root` but it's not available in the initramfs prompt. Update `/proc/cmdline` to change the root fs back to the Armbian partition…

Hi, I am running the latest Armbian image with Noble + GNOME for the Rock 5C. I have build it using the `compile.sh` script without altering the kernel, desktop enabled, based on Noble, with GNOME, no applications, no extensions. Added the kisak PPA repo afterwards and enabled the panthor overlay for hardware acceleration. Should be close to the `Armbian_24.11.1_Rock-5c_noble_vendor_6.1.75_gnome-kisak_desktop.img` image, I think. With Chromium (few tabs), VSCodium (working on some code) and a couple of terminals open, things were crashing all the time. Here is a reproducable example with Chromium, when navigating t…

I have built an Orange Pi 5 Plus systems. I have a 256gb eMMC card which seems to run as speed would expect. Yet when I test the NVMe drive I get slow speeds compared to what is suggested to get. I have seen other people posts that suggest they are getting at least 4gb/s using NVME drives. I have searched for other issues but there is no errors in the logs just can't get the speeds I was expecting. I have the following which suggests at least 5gb/s KINGSTON SNV3S500G I have formatted it using Ext4. root@orangepi5-plus:/boot# hdparm -Tt /dev/nvme0n1 /dev/nvme0n1: Timing cached reads: 2804 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1404.10 M…

Currently running 24.8.3 and have copied it to the eMMC, working fine on both the µSD image and eMMC. (On the Rock-Pi-S, if you have a bootable image on the µSD card, it boots from that. If not, it boots from the eMMC.) Today, running from the µSD, I did an apt update and apt upgrade, and it updated a few packages (here's the list): # apt list --upgradeable Listing... I followed the provided instructions to install Arbmbian on Orange Pi 5 Plus 16GB, so I downloaded the official Ubuntu image from the Orange Pi website, and when it booted, it sudo apt update sudo apt install mtd-utils sudo flash_eraseall /dev/mtd0 The flash operation was finished successfully. Then I turned off, loaded Armbian Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) (Desktop images with Armbian Linux v6.12) on SD and started the machine. I have a monitor connected to the machine, but there is no output. My router doesn't show any new network device, so I suppose that Armbian doesn't load. It's exactly the same situation when I tried to install Armbian without /dev/mtd0 erasin…

Unfortunately, there seems not yet to be an area in this forum for NanoPi R6C/S, so here we go ... I have Orange Pi 5 Plus that I plan to install in a remote location. To boot Orange Pi, I need to press the physical Power On button. How I can setup the machine to boot automatically once the power is supplied? There is nobody on the remote side to press this button. Or maybe there are other options to boot remotely like WakeOnLAN? Where it can be configured? In orangepi-config?

Hello, I'm using a rock pi e ver 3.0 with armbian 24.8.3: I would like to drive the state of a gpio, that of pin 7 or gpio 100: I'm not an expert and I tried to use the GPIOD libraries for python but I couldn't do anything because I get errors; from the command line through the gpiodetect command it seems to me that the chipset is recognized and I see some lines and the status of the gpios but I cannot change the status of these. Am I going in the right direction? Are there other methods to drive these GPIOs? Thank you in advance.

Hi, I tried to activate the SPI interface on a Tinkerboard2S. I used the last Armbian version (Armbian_community_25.2.0-trunk.110_Tinkerboard-2_bookworm_current_6.6.63_minimal). I edited the /boot/armbianEnv.txt and add the overlays, I found different parameters and all doesn't work, I tried: overlays=spi0 spi2 overlays=spi-spidev param_spidev_spi_bus=0 and via armbian-config: fdt_overlays=rockchip-rk3399-spi-spidev But with all approaches I didn't get a /dev/spi* device. Any ideas? TIA

Hello Armbian community, I am writing this topic because, despite the drivers for the processor's integrated GPU are installed within the operating system, they do not seem to work properly. Precisely the system seems to work but as soon as I try to play a video it is played by the CPU and not by the GPU with lag and the CPU is at 100%. I leave the link and the attachment of the result of the armbianmonitor -U command that I posted here: https://paste.debian.net/1337993/ it is a compressed tar.gz file since I included all the results of the command Analysis.txt

Hi guys, I created another device tree overlay that I needed, to enable two user leds on GPIO. Specifically GPIO0_B7 and GPIO0_C0, which is pins 27 and 28 on the header. Posting it here in case someone needs it, like I did with with the SPIdev overlay too. Here it is: rk3308-user-leds.dts What I needed this for is ethernet port LEDs, since the original connector does not include them. To get standard ethernet LED behavior on these newly defined LEDs, you can do this (you need su access): modprobe ledtrig-netdev echo "netdev" > /sys/class/leds/rock-s0\:orange\:user1/trigger echo "netdev" > /sys/class/leds/rock-s0\:green\:user2/trigger e…

Hello OPI5 users. Running Joshua Riek's Ubuntu distro, I keep getting stability issues. Perhaps because I keep using Xorg. Perhaps because hardware acceleration is buggy. In the past I used super stable Armbian OPI5 distro's without hardware acceleration. Infact I still use Armbian on another RK3588 box, I don't think it has EVER crashed, running docker, Mosquito, HomeAssistant, and a buch of other things. Now that my Orange Pi 5 gets a slightly more serious use as webserver, I really like to get rid of the unpredictable Xorg crashes, and gladly would sacrifice HW acceleration for stability. My situation is this: Using JR Ubuntu Because I …

Hello, Recently I have upgraded Armbian on my PBP (w/o kernel). My current kernel is 5.10.60 #21.08.1. I know, it's old but the newer only makes PBP unusable at all - black screen on boot. For orange pi, i am facing this problem with different Operating systems as well apart from armbian. I've used Ubuntu, Orange Pi OS, Armbian. All have got this problem. The code I have attached. Because the instructions I followed and that I see around do a very basic cat /dev/mmcblk1 > /dev/nvme0n1 onto the raw un-partitioned nvme. My case will be that I have data on a partition on that drive that needs to stay. Is this going to be an issue or are there ways to re-install Armbian or even other distro on the boot partition? Cheers!

Hello all, I have noticed that whenever I reboot my Orange Pi 5 board, all the 8 cpus slow down to 408 Mhz with no range, as stated by cpufreq-info: I have created a cronjob script in order to bring the frequency back to acceptable range. I don't even know if this is the correct way to solve this, but I am running the following: echo performance | sudo tee /sys/devices/platform/dmc/devfreq/dmc/governor cpufreq-set -c 0 -u 1800000 cpufreq-set -c 4 -u 2260000 cpufreq-set -c 6 -u 2300000 cpufreq-set -c 0 -g schedutil cpufreq-set -c 4 -g schedutil cpufreq-set -c 6 -g schedutil However, even though I set the frequency for processo…

Hi! I'm using Tinkerboard S R2.0 in headless mode, but with LightDM (kiosk mode). It's connected to HDMI display, and I soldered display's backlight on/off contact to a relay that can turn on/off the backlight. I see that Amrbian turns off image output (launches screensaver as a black screen) after 10-15 min, but I could not find out where those settings are stored. Please help to find out.

Hello all, I am running an Orange Pi 5 board with Armbian on a SD Card and I realized that my /var/log path is constantly full, with it being at /dev/zram1 It gets full at 50Mb with the file /var/log/samba/cores/smbd/core taking up all the space I have not managed to read this file, so I can't tell what kinds of errors are showing up. My OpenMediaVault and samba setup are running perfectly fine, and even though I delete this core file, it shows up again during reboot. I have tried to set enable core files = no in smb.conf With no sucess. The file continues to show up during reboot. Any ideas how to solve this? …

Hi, last night a set of updates was installed and I rebooted the Orange Pi 5+ this morning. After the reboot I've seem to have lost the connection to the Orange Pi 5+, it is normally connected without a screen so I access it through SSH and the Open Media Vault web GUI. I've tried to connect it to a screen and then it seems to boot up just fine. Looking around with the screen connected it seems like the network cards aren't detected. My Linux skills are very limited but "sudo lshw -class network" shows nothing. One detail is that my router seems to detect it when it's connected and gives it the normal IP address that I've set in the 192.168.0.x ran…
