I have installed the latest version od Armbian to a SD card it work well, but for speed reason i would like to install the OS to th SSD drive and boot from this device and no longer from the SD card. Is there a way to do this ? i mean from u-boot point of view? i can keep a SD card inside it to store u boot but i would like to move usr var and such to SSD Thanks in advance for your answers comment or ideas W.

  2. I purchased this board to use as a gaming station and, among the options, I'm using moonlight with sunshine to stream my steam to the room, which is working wonderfully well, but I'm having a problem. When pairing the control with Armbian, it is recognized as a joystick but I cannot use it in any way. I have two Sony Dualsense joysticks, I tested them both with cable and Bluetooth and the problem is the same. Can anyone guide me where I can start to debug the problem? 8. So I have armbian installed on a tinkerboard and have had absolutely no issues with it until I bought a new Samsung 7000 series TV (2019). For some reason this TV does not recognize the signal coming from the tinkerboard. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get this to work. I notice a few references online about being able to force a resolution but nothing related to the rockchip boards. Is there an equivalent way to force a display resolution as in this article? https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Allwinner/#how-to-reconfigure-video-output I'm running 4.19.21-rockchip 5.76 I've also tried kernel 5.4.28 as well an…

  9. For a few weeks I've been using the latest official release from May 26, 2025, running just fine from my NVME drive. But then I turned it on and at the screen where you get the Amrbian grey/red logo in the middle of the screen and the spinning circle, it went no further. The spinning circle would either stop rotating or disappear after a minute or so. I can SSH into the device. But when I use remote desktop from a Windows PC, the full and functioning desktop is there. It's just not on my TV screen any more. I've done the usual HDMI cable testing and powering off the TV completely, but no change. The fact that the…

  10. Hello, I've used the Tinkerboard S (Rockchip RK3288) with the Armbian images available for download (https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/). Currently, the /dev/ttyS4 serial port is not available unless CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=5 when the Linux kernel is built since the serial ports are populated in /dev starting with /dev/ttyS0 and the last serial port to be populated is /dev/ttyS4. By default, CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=4. Some additional kernel settings are required to ensure that all of the available serial ports can be utilized. 17. My application creates 15 threads. Since A53 has 4 cores it is likely that more threads will be spawned by A53. Is there a way to manipulate scheduling and create more threads through cortex A72 so that it compensates the delay. Examples 6 threads on A72 and 9 threads on A53. This way it ensures the run time does not fluctuate and we achieve peak performance.

  20. This is a new release of the uefi firmware for Orange Pi 5 Plus which now has mainline kernel support. My thought was that this new release would support armbian uefi builds but so far no love. Does anyone know of an armbian build that would work with this??? 21. The NanoPi R3S contains a hardware clock (HYM8563) with the possibility to connect a backup battery. However, the current kernel adds this clock as an additional one (RTC1). I tried to create a device tree overlay, but it does not work. As I understand it, this is because the default Rockchip clock is not included in the device tree. So, if I understand correctly, the only way to make the HYM8563 the default clock is to build the kernel with this option enabled. Please consider changing the default kernel options to make the HYM8563 the default RTC. If there’s another way to make the HYM8563 the default RTC, please advise.

  23. Hello, I'm using a RockPro64 boards inside one of my projects and I just noticed an issue related to the reset process. When pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a reset loop. Using the oscilloscope, I found that the reset signal (OTP_OUT_H) is toggled every 330ms by the CPU and the only way to get it back to work is to power off the board, wait a few seconds, and power it back. The same issue is found if, after a working boot, a quick power cycle is performed. I tried disconnecting everything from the board but still, when pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a loop condition (as if it’s constantly crashing at boot). …

When connected to some PC monitors, the image is larger than the physical screen: about 20 pixels at the top and bottom sides, and 50 pixels at the right and left sides are missing. This happens as soon as the board boots (without logo), the start of lines are truncated, and this also happens on text ttys (Ctrl + Alt + F1..6). I guess it's about a boot env variable, but I could not find it.

Greetings, I recently had a request about testing the I2S and SPDIF output of MiQi devices and after some fiddling on this board, it seems that the Rockchip I2S + Simple-Audio ALSA driver just output nothing on the I2S TX/RX pins, at least. So was anyone able to output sound directly through the I2S GPIO pins on any RK3288 device ? Tinkerboard devices seems to use that setup and it seems to be working, but I'd like to know if that's working through the soldered Jack or the GPIO.

Is anyone using the current Kodi Flatpak, Omega? I'm having issues viewing videos that have pixel format of yuv420p10le with the current apt repository Kodi Nexus. I thought to try Kodi Flatpak and it worked and I was able to view those yuv420p10le videos without issue. However, it was choppy and had high CPU usage...around 80% on many of the CPUs. I'm trying to figure that out. It's happening on all types of videos. All is played using software decoding. I've never gotten hardware decoding working. In the Kodi Nexus version I'm using it also software decoding but very low CPU usage. In any case, just want to see what experiences …

  52. I just tried the official Jammy image on the Rock Pi S, which does not boot. Looking at serial, it halts after "Starting kernel ...". I've tried redownloading the image, burning it again and on a different SD card. I also tried the bullseye image, which *does* boot (which makes me believe this is not a hardware issue). Anyone with a Rock Pi S that could confirm my observation? 53. Hi guys, I created another device tree overlay that I needed, to enable two user leds on GPIO. Specifically GPIO0_B7 and GPIO0_C0, which is pins 27 and 28 on the header. Posting it here in case someone needs it, like I did with with the SPIdev overlay too. Here it is: rk3308-user-leds.dts What I needed this for is ethernet port LEDs, since the original connector does not include them. To get standard ethernet LED behavior on these newly defined LEDs, you can do this (you need su access): modprobe ledtrig-netdev echo "netdev" > /sys/class/leds/rock-s0\:orange\:user1/trigger echo "netdev" > /sys/class/leds/rock-s0\:green\:user2/trigger e…

  57. Using Jun 26's Sid_vendor_server-kali, my Zero 3W is stuck in a loop. I can't "Create a loop password" as it'll instantly jump to the "armbian-security login:" prompt. If I login with the default root:1234, I'll briefly see the welcome screen, followed by a very brief "waiting for the system to finish booting", then it's back to 1. This occurs regardless of internet access (provided by a USB-C ethernet adapter, for which Armbian reports a valid LAN IP address).

  58. Since I re-installed 23.8 Jammy with the extra ppa:liujianfeng1994 repo - I haven't been able to play any videos on my OPI5. All players I tried seem to have kernel issues decoding any h264. I've narrowed down the error message to a 4Gb memory limit with the selected version of the drivers but I was wondering if anyone had luck with playback. I had better luck with Jammy 23.4 and I regret upgrading. What is the recommendation? Should I try nightly with 6.6.0-rc1 kernel? I assume this one doesn't need panfork drivers anymore or are there other recommendations for h264 playback?

It looks like the power supply is OK, although I'll try swapping with another. I had just backed up the SD Card too. I'll try re-imaging an SD card, but I'm thinking the SD card may not be the issue. I hooked up my UART and captured output. At the end of each loop, it looks like it's saying "Starting Kernel" and then restarting. Captured output follows. Any ideas, suggestions or comments on what's happening. I'm thinking it's probably a hardware issue. I …

Hello everyone, due to a project I'm working with the Friendly Elec Nanopi R4S board for which I've to use the i2c bus to read data from a sensor. Unfortunately I've not been able to access it, since the system does not recognize it. I tried with different configurations using the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file with no results, however the i2c ports are enabled. To rule out functionality problems in the sensor, I connected it to other boards (e.g. nanopi Neo3 using Armbian) without problems. Do you have any idea what could be the cause of this problem? 90. Hi all, reporting a regression in new Armbian 24.2.1 kernel version. New kernel is causing Orange Pi 4 LPS not to boot most of the time, when it boots, then there is no network. Kernel hangs with oops errors on the screen, and all debugging stuff. Sorry that I did not caught any of them on my phone, but it would have been incomplete anyway. How to reproduce: Install any 24.2.1 based system on Orange Pi 4 LTS Upon first boot, you will have issues. No Ethernet network. Second boot will most likely not succeed no matter what you do and system will brick permanently, by not booting at all (no video output), or booting and then showing kernel crash. …
