  1. Many of us are using Armbian not just on ARM single board computers but also on servers (bare metal & virtual). We use our builds since we trust it more then Debian, Ubuntu, not to mention other distributions that are recklessly updating and one ends up as an OS tester and not OS user. Personally I use Armbian Jammy on Ryzen 9 workstation with great success. My primary use case is development / productivity. For the road I used to have 13" Dell notebook which recently suddenly died. It was out of warranty so I had to get something new. After some testings of various devices I settled with 12th Gen Intel i5-1240P powered Lenovo. Then I tried many general purpose distro…

  3. Hi, I'm using Odroid HC1 for quite a long time and I've observed much degradation on SMB/NFS speed when making upgrades to the board. I'm not sure why? Maybe I'll find some idea what it can be. Previously the board was working with speeds >100MB/s when reading from it on Windows (smb) or Linux (nfs) now max speeds on the same configuration are ~40 MB/s. That's way too slow. I don't see any process to hang on pc, while copying using smb the samba process is using not so big amount of CPU on big cores from what I see. I've grabbed armbianmonitor output so you can check it also: http://ix.io/1zrL Currently I'm working on: 4.14.87-odroidxu4 …

  4. Hi, yesterday I did a apt upgrade and noticed that my omv install also got updated. Now copying from my HC2 I only get like 50 mb/s. I always got like 100 mb/s..at least win explorer showed this, I know it's not accurate. Could the update have erased/overwritten all these nice tweaks @tkaiser made for us to increase tranfer speed? That would be very unfortunate :/ Any chance I can roll back the omv update?

  5. A known issue with the Odroid XU4, HC1, and HC2 is that it (uboot?) does not properly park the hard disk heads before/during shutdown or power cycle/off. So, the disk drive is forced to emergency hard retract the heads when power is shutdown/cycled. This is of course a violent action for the HDD and should be avoided. Use this odroid.shutdown script and install into /lib/systemd/system-shutdown/. https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-xu4/troubleshooting/shutdown_script Recommend adding to armbian for XU4 distros.

  7. Hello, my OMV installation on Odroid HC1 is currently at kernel 4.14.111 which is a bit outdated now. Looking at the build config [1], the kernel is fetched from hardkernel [2] which is currently at 4.14.127. What needs to happen to bring the kernel up-to-date? I have been doing packaging for Fedora for quite a while now so I am happy to help if needed. 8. Hi! my Odroid HC2 is running for more than three years now (24/7), hosting a nextcloud instance. Other than two preemptive SD-card swaps no maintenance necessary, armbian performs really great 🙂 Since I was thinking about upgrading to a better machine (Nano Pi M4, if they ever sell them again...) I wanted to install sysbench to compare some CPU specs. But sudo apt-get install sysbench gives: unable to locate package sysbench I'm running a recently upgraded armbian, v22.02.1 with Kernel 5.4.181. Any ideas? I'm pretty sure I had sysbench on an earlier version of armbian. EDIT: fixed typos

And since I have bought the sbc recently, I do not seem to have the older firmware version with the HDD "emergency power down" bug, i.e. I haven't heard clacking sound from the HC2. So it seems, that no screensver is active and running. Which process produces this behavior ? Hope anyone …

  18. Today, I set up SSH public key authentication on my RPI5B running Armbian-unofficial 24.8.0-trunk Bookworm. During the test, I noticed that the initial SSH session message displayed the CPU temperature and other details. 31. DUring a fresh install of Debian buster recently, I went through the armbian-config setup, which finished with "install a whole lot of package updates, and update the boodloader." Since I've rebooted from that, the board no longer boots. It's been a while, so I have unfortunately forgotten the details of what actually happened. I didn't expect that set of updates to change anything in the firmware, only the OS and u-boot on the MMC-card. The board powers on, attempts to boot from the MMC and then bails. This is the error log: (slightly trimmed) I've tried several different MMC cards. I've tried booting from SPI, SATA and UART…

I'm using Armbian 21.08.8 (Bullseye). I want to upgrade to Armbian 22.02.1 but "apt-get update" doesn't offer anything. Reason seems to be that <mirror>/apt/dists is from Feb 1st 2022. Question: When can I expect that <mirror>/apt/dists will be refreshed? Or is there any other way to upgrade my installation?

  47. Hello the Helios4 community, This is quite the story and I may have messed up at multiple steps, especially since I did not backup my RAID data (please don't go too hard on me for this, it's difficult task for me since I don't have enough space on any of my computer to do so), but I hope that at least you can help me to salvage some data. Short story: I flashed my sd cart to upgrade to the last armbian available (I was on armbian 9) After some hurdle I finally could had a stable boot and installed OpenMediaVault When looking for my RAID 10 data I found that they were gone, replaced by what looks like a linux system, here's its current content…

  49. hey there, I'm using an odroid xu4 with the cloudshell 2 with 2 drives in RAID1 and Armbian with Debian 9 Stretch as my OS, built via Vagrant 2 weeks ago. The /boot partition sits on a sd-card, the OS on the harddrive. I''ve copied both via dd on both devices(boot an card, rootfs on harddrive), and after the first boot it worked flawlessly, because the boot information uses the UUID, not the /dev path. After the first boot and configuration of another user and so on, I rebooted the system to let it resize the rootfs to extend it to 2TB, which is the size of the harddrive. But after this, it seems that cryptroot cannot decrypt the …

  50. Hi! my nextcloud instance on an odroid hc2 running armbian has been running stable and smoothly for several months now. Thanks Igor and the whole armbian team! I have one question though: Task: I convert videos with ffmpeg to reduce file size and optimize them for streaming observed behaviour: the CPU is getting very hot! In the evening up to 100 °C (see below), but at noon I have seen temperatures of up to 115 °C! I read somewhere that 110 °C is the critical temperature for the board and the stock hardkernel image has an emergency shutdown implemented. But my board running armbian seems to be negligent of this. On a side no…

  54. I'm wanting to install the latest CLI or minimal image for my Helios4 and am on the Helios4 Armbian page. Unless I'm missing something, there appears to only be two variations, but both are labelled as "Desktop" images.. In addition, in the below screenshot you can see a footnote indicating that to install OMV I will need a Bookworm minimal image - which is what I want to do. Am I missing something? Thanks

  55. I attempted to file a bug using `reportbug`, but since the kernel package is from Armbian and the report went to Debian, I assume that is a dead end. https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1137721 I will mostly copy/paste from that report, here, but I also ran `armbianmonitor -u`. https://paste.armbian.com/wenegucita I run a home backup server with a 1TB SSD attached to an ODroid HC1 board. There is no redundancy, but I do keep a limited history of snapshots, taken hourly and trimmed down to a small number of hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly snapshots. There should be at most about 20 snapshots ex…

  56. Since I had a power supply problem with my XU4 I decided to download the image and start from scratch. First time I recall everything went smooth until my PS failed. Now, starting from a fresh image, when the first boot gets to SSH key regeneration, it hangs forever. Tried several times, tested the sd card, used a different one for test. Still hangs at SSH key regeneration. I had never tried moving the OS to the HD. All the contents there are good and it has passed all the long smart tests. If I reboot after a while hanging at SSH key regeneration it boots and does all the password stuff as expected, and everything else seems fine. Should I worry about it?

  59. So I wanted to set up an Odroid XU4 as a low-power low-cost NAS and "seedbox" for a personal project, and I wanted to have a GUI that doesn't take too many resources (or spin the fan too much) due to the fact that qBittorrent can't run as a thin client, and I don't want to have to use a WebUI, nor do I want to use a different client (Transmission frequently has security issues, and Deluge is a bit too resource-intensive). I'm currently using the XU4 headless, and only have it hooked up to LAN, so it's a bit difficult to tell what's going on at system initialisation, and since I'm controlling the device through SSH, I'm unable to manually start X11 after booting and l…

  69. Hi, I'm running into a problem I can't solve. On my new Odroid HC1 I'm trying to set up a SFTP with chroot, but no matter what I'm trying it doesn't work on Armbian (or OMV). Tried it multiple times with a clean Armbian (Armbian_5.59_Odroidxu4_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.66 - also tried the Bionic image) install, simply added a user, added the required lines to sshd_config but each time I get a "Broken Pipe" error. I also shared some findings on the openssl support for the kernel modules (cryptodev and af_alg) that interact with the cesa engine. It makes no difference if I upgrade the kernel via apt or via armbian-config I guess the issue is the files still in the SD card used for boot (they are 4.14.176 by it's names). 100. I have some HC1 running since last year. Before going into production I did SATA install, NEXT kernel, firmware and stretch update (I need that) and all updates offered through apt since then. I have read about newer armbian releases that my machines do not load and further HC1 optimization which I can´t find in my armbian-config. I wonder whether my setup will receive proper updates. It would be quite a hassle to reinstall. Now I have: Welcome to ARMBIAN 5.38 stable Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 4.9.61-odroidxu4 Linux HC1 4.9.61-odroidxu4 #2 SMP PREEMPT Wed Nov 22 16:34:23 CET 2017 armv7l cat /etc/apt/sources.list deb http:/…
