  1. I just started RockPro64'ing (though been using Linux for about 25 years) and bought the low profile fan with the RockPro64. Armbian (downloaded today) installed fine, sees my NVME etc. so all good. The only issue I have is that once the OS starts up the fan comes on and never stops - it seems to be running 100% all the time. It the speed meant to vary? And is it meant to turn off sometimes when not required? I'm wondering if I am I missing a config file entry for this. Thanks for any assistance and well done on the distro.

  2. I am running Ubuntu 24.04 Noble (Armbian Linux 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx) and no additional packages affecting VPU performance have been installed; everything is stock. Jellyfin is running in Docker, and transcoding works perfectly, except for some movies. I tried to play a 4K video in Chrome (native HEVC support), set the bitrate to 40mbps, and the video played normally at a transcoding speed of about 3x, but after a while, Orange Pi crashed. In Firefox inside neko (where there is no hardware acceleration and HEVC), the crash happened even faster, after ~2 seconds of playback. The crash happens as if the board loses power: journalctl is not saved, nothing is …

  3. Hi, I bought a Rock 5C with the official fan/heatsink: https://radxa.com/products/accessories/heatsink-6540b/ After installing the Armbian server image, I ran these two commands: ```bash ls /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device*/type cat /sys/class/thermal/cooling_device*/type ``` and found that there is no `pwm-fan`. Then I installed the official Radxa Debian image and ran these two commands again. `pwm-fan` exists and I can make it starts spinning by running: ```bash echo 255 | sudo tee /sys/devices/platform/pwm-fan/hwmon/hwmon*/pwm1 ``` Is the fan module supported in Armbian? If yes, ho…

  7. I bought a Pinebook Pro two weeks ago. It came with Manjaro KDE preinstalled on EMMC. I wanted to try out Armbian, so I downloaded the Bookworm XFCE image from May 27th. In order to get the SD booted, I first flashed Tow-Boot for Pinebook Pro (pine64-pinebookPro-2021.10-005.tar.xz) from github Tow-Boot to the SPI. Then during boot after pressing ESC the menu lets you select the SD card for boot. The first boot to Armbian worked well. I could set up user, timezone and everything. The XFCE desktop looks very clean with a reasonable selection of software. Well done, team! But after I upgrade the system with apt update & upgrade, the next time the machine is b…

  9. I grabbed the "Armbian 25.8.1 Bookworm Minimal / IOT" image from https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/, landed it on a microSD card, booted it, and ran apt update apt upgrade apt install linux-headers-current-rockchip apt install zfs-dkms zfsutils-linux This gets me linux-image-current-rockchip 25.8.1 (kernel 6.12.44-current-rockchip) and a module built from zfs-dkms 2.3.2-2~bpo12+2. So far so good. And then I ran modprobe zfs.ko and was rewarded with the following panic in the kernel's module loader: [ 1128.728803] spl: loading out-of-tree module taints kernel. 10. I still have a problem configuring the wifi hotspot on the armbian distribution for tinkerboard. The hotspot is clearly unstable. So none of my computers can't connect to it and my phones and tablets have a unstable connection. I thought having found a turnover using a call to iw with a frequency of 1s. This was reactivating the wifi for some times (that should simulate a continuous connection) but it looks that it doesn't work anymore. So I am stuck with that, I am unable to configure a stable hotspot. Is there something to do with the rtl8723 driver, or have I no hope to make it works ?

  14. Hi guys We're trying to run SPI with Linuxcnc. But sometimes SPI latency with other hardware (FPGA) gets big. The operating system is armbian and I could install a real-time kernel on it so I know it shouldn't be real-time issue with kernel. We've noticed that it might be the spidev driver issue that is not real-time. And now we're gonna communicate with low-level SPI. Bit I dont know how? can any one please help me?

  15. Howdy, I am in desperate need of help getting this dang usb wifi dongle working on my orange pi 5. I am new to sbc and fiarly new to linux. I have tried multiple github drivers with freash OS installs, all to no avail. Time spent trying to get it to work is reaching close 20 hours, across multiple forums, github searches, videos, linux how to site, and armbian site itself. I'm either missing something or an idiot cause i can't figure out this "make" or "dkms" command stuff out for compiling the driver and installing it. My last resort is asking for y'all for help before i feed this thing to my dog... "joke". My most recent attempt is from the git h…

  16. Hi, I am wanting to try running OPNsense under proxmox, but before that I wanted to setup the type-C port as a management port. I have added g_cdc in /etc/modules to load the kernel module and if I run a vendor kernel, it works fine. I plug my laptop in to the boards type-C port and it shows up as an ethernet adapter and I can SSH directly to the Rock 5 ITX. I however would like to use a mainline kernel instead as it generally runs better thanks to the amazing work of the community here. Running 6.12, this same functionality does not work and nothing appears in the network adapters on my laptop when plugging in. Looking on mainline-status, I see that the typ…

  17. Hi, after upgrading to Armbian 24.11.3 noble with 6.1 Kernel I have this problem that every time I turn off my TV that is connected to OPI with HDMI, then turning it back on again it will never have a HDMI signal. Same thing happens when I unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in. I can reproduce it every single time - not just occasionally. It is not a hardware or cable problem, the exact same setup has worked flawlessly for long time with older Armbian and 5.1 kernel. I tried disabling all of the KDE power saving settings, also totally disabled kpowerdevil - with no change. SSH still works fine, the OS has not crashed. …

Thus I am wondering if CB2 would be supported by Armbian community? I am currently on BTT V3.0.0 Beta 2, and got crashed (no boot) after I tried to install the docker, so I guess the BTT CB2 V3.0.0 does not fully supoort other program except Mainsail for 3D printing.

  21. Hi, this week my Rock 5 ITX+ board arrived and I started installing Armbian with vendor kernel (now on 6.1.99-vendor-rk35xx). This board has slightly different hardware than the original ITX. It has two M.2 M-key (2-lanes) instead of one M.2 M-key and four SATA ports. I think because of the different hardware configuration the DTB has to be changed as no SATA controller is present on the board. With the ITX DTB I am experiencing problems with not regonizing NVME disks when activating ASPM in armbianEnv.txt. I have no experience in editing DTBs or applying patches, so I need help to figure out what to do to make things work. …

  22. Dear all, I got myself an Radxa Rock 5 ITX+ as I thought I'd saw that this board had premium support. After it arrived, I saw that only the ITX (non-plus) variant had premium support, which since latest Armbian release some days ago seems to has been downgraded to standard support. I cleared both the eMMC and SPI flash to make sure the preinstalled OS were gone and would not interfere with the boot up process. Then I built myself a latest image with trixie and vendor kernel but I realized that (after booting from sdcard successfully), the Nvme was never picked up. The ITX+ has two M.2 full-size slots instead of only one - and is missing th…

  24. Hello! Is there a possibility to change the default LED0 behaviour of the RTL8201F PHY? Here is the Datasheet: https://file.elecfans.com/web1/M00/99/0F/o4YBAF0VytaAI7ezABH66fmIRIg854.pdf?filename=RTL8201F-VB-CG.pdf And this is the relevant register: It states, that "11" is the default - but I think it is changed to "00" during driver initialization - is that possible? I would like to change it to "01" - is this somehow possible without recompiling the driver? Thank you! Best regards, Manuel

I can connect with Real VNC from another device and see the desktop of the Orange Pi as if I were in front of its display. However, when the Orange Pi 5 is powered on without a display connected to the HDMI port, the access with Real VNC doesn't work as before. How can I achieve this with Armbian? How can I configure an alternative resolution when the…

  32. So, if you use the mainline DTSI files, you'll encounter an issue when loading the Mali Midgard GPL kernel module, since the main ARM kernel maintainers changed how the "compatible" properties of Midgard GPU nodes should be defined. Don't ask me why, they created an entire documentation stating that now the Mali Midgard GPU nodes have to harbour the chip series number, a vendor-specific statement, and drop the "arm,mali-midgard" property. The additions are nice, since they allow a quick detection of the chip number and the chip vendor using /sys nodes names. However, turns out that the Mali kernel driver used the dropped property to detect the GPU. So, I've …

  37. Hello! Iv'e just done a test run installing Armbian for booting off my new m.2 nvme drive. As 'm planning to have the drives 2nd large partition as my basic home file server I'm wondering if I can as easily re-install the OS if/when I need to update it to a newer one? Because the instructions I followed and that I see around do a very basic cat /dev/mmcblk1 > /dev/nvme0n1 onto the raw un-partitioned nvme. My case will be that I have data on a partition on that drive that needs to stay. Is this going to be an issue or are there ways to re-install Armbian or even other distro on the boot partition? Cheers!

I found this amazing page https://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi-Cedrus#VLC that explains alot on VLC and hardware accelleration but I cannot clearly figure out if my playback is using hardware acceleration. I did follow all the steps to optimize chromium with the ppu sources - chromium doesn't work well yet for me - so not sure if that install worked as expected. My playback of h264 in VLC is super smooth but I have around 20-35% cpu usage (1080p videos) - I know h264 is more demanding than AV1 but someone reported AV1 with 15% CPU usage and 4k. Is there anything I can do to make sure the hardware acceleration is working (aka the VA-API is used)?

Inspired by Bazzite OS, and remind me of experience on Armbian (not just armbian), basically on Orange PI 5/ OPI5+, it'll be solid OS if update failure/ anything went wrong can rollback to previous safe copy. Pain-point: I just want to use the system, not keep re-flashing OS. nixOS is good, but I don't want to re-learn everything ... and giving up my Ubuntu eco-system. Sorry I'm still testing out, and failing with existing Armbian-Config approach, I'm trying my own appraoch, Iknew the rules here, wait until I success I'll share it here. 55. While doing various tests, also other bootloader than EDK2-UEFI v1.1 that I had in eMMC, I discovered that with 2026.01-rc2_armbian-2026.01-rc2-S365a-Pa203-He3cc-V062a-Bbf55-R448a kernel 6.18.0-rc7-edge-rockchip64 did not find/enable audio via HDMI. I moved the computer to other room where I rely on the speakers in the monitor, else I would not have discovered it as I also use networked pulseaudio. What works is 2025.01-armbian-2025.01-S6d41-Pdb4b-H2194-V062a-Bb703-R448a, so sort of last-known-good, got that via: sudo apt install linux-u-boot-nanopi-r6c-current=25.8.1 and wrote the binary with dd to eMMC Another issue is that the monitor …

  56. Hi! I'm using armbian Jammy on my orange pi 5 with installed xfce desktop. I'm trying to connect it to a small HDMI screen and it doesn't work. It shows "no signal". I tried to use another screen (different model, resolution, manufacturer etc.) and it works. Then I tried to use non working screen with jetson nano and it works without any actions. Do I need to rebuild the kernel with the ath12k driver? or is there a kernel version available with that driver? Thanks for your help!

  69. Hi there! o/ I have noticed something... Odd. This is not a show stopper here, but the TinkerBoard NIC leds stays off all the time (if no traffic) even with link. It does blink somewhat schizophrenically when there's traffic. The right NIC led is bi-color and sometimes blinks in yellow, sometimes blinks in green. For what is worth, running Kernel 4.4-120. Issue also happened in build -104, which was the original Armbian image that I have downloaded. I thought it was something with the port, cables but... Traffic flows just normally Is it... normal? :-) Have a great (tinkering) weekend!!!
