!!! Warning !!!: Think twice before you upgrade kernel on your PineBook Pro. After years unfortunately I decided to unlock upgrades Armbian Kernels and upgraded kernel to the newest one (current) - 5.15.93. After reboot Armbian couldn't find my encrypted root disk and booting ended every time in (initramfs). I installed again kernel 5.10.60 #21.08.1 and Armbian finds my encrypted disk again. Of course still there is no information that I have to enter the password to unlock disk but only black screen. Happily I know that I have to enter the password when the screen is black. Every upgrade of Armbian is connected with a dose of stress that I'll have to …

Dear Armbian community, Yesterday morning, after apt upgrade my Rockpro64 not boot (the white and red led stayed lit). After some tries I managed to get a boot again but I now have a "init not found" error, as you can see on the screenshot. What have been done so far : - Install an Ubuntu as "debug" platform - Follow the recovery steps from Armbian website - Put on eMMC storage a 5.15.63 by copying the files from Armbian - Check if UUID was consistent between partition, boot config, ... ==> this is the case - Made a fsck : no errors found ==> I would like to try this : https://askubuntu.com/questions/…

Not sure if the rolling release includes the UART dtb yet, but when I build my own image (jammy xfce kernel 5.10.110) I don't have the UART dtbs in /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/ . As a result, I couldn't add uart0-m2 to /boot/armbianEnv.txt and get /dev/ttyS0 when I was following the official user manual to enable UART. After some researching I managed to solve this by copying the dtb file from orange pi's official ubuntu image to /boot/overlay-user and enable UART with user_overlays=rk3588-uart0-m2 in armbianEnv.txt . Rebooted and it works. However, I suppose it would be better to include the dts files in kernel patches? I'm posting this because I don't know what…

I thought I had read that someone had the T2U working out of the box. Well, it's mostly there. When I tried it, didn't work. Got message in dmesg that firmware file not found. Did a Google search and found that it came down to the mediatek firmware files needing to be in the /lib/firmware/mediatek directory but they are currently in the /lib/firmware directory. FYI, the /lib/firmware/mediatek directory already existed and did not need to be created. Also in the current Jammy Gnome desktop Armbian, the file that was being loaded, mt7610e.bin, was not there and only the backup file, mt7610u.bin, was there in the /lib/firmware directory. What I d…

Hi guys. I have been using a RockPro64 as a miniserver for many years. It runs stable most of the time. I have assigned it a host name "ab2" via armbian-config. It usually responds well to this alias. Only from time to time it happens that it no longer responds to the hostname. Only a reboot helps. Do you have any idea what this could be? Hello. In Armbian 5.34 (default, next and nightly (26/10/2017) no have permission for create, edit and delet conection on network manager. To be able to modify a connection it is necessary to open the network manager in root. It's really very exciting. Looking on the internet it turns out that it will be a problem of "policy". I had already reported this bug on the post "tinkerboard". He had been tuned to a nightly version but he came back. my account is in the group netdev and sudo like ask in the polkit Would it be possible to have a "next" version fix this bug or have the procedure to fix the error? thank

On a fresh install from the website on kernel 6.1 bookworm/Jammy when rebooting the board a kernel panic occurs and the device will not boot unless power cycled. I haven't touched my ROCKPro64 for quite a while. Pulled it out today and starting playing with it. I was getting 2 blinks of white LED, then a pause, then repeating. I thought it wasn't booting or something. After checking a whole bunch of things, including connecting a serial terminal, I finally realized I had a bad Ethernet cable (and this was why it was not showing up on my router). The board (and OS installed to eMMC) had been fine the whole time. Now, my understanding is that the LED behavior is particular to software (bootloader, I guess?). But FWIW, on a slightly older Armbian (21.02.3) at least, this appears to be default b…

Hello, I have been experimenting with the bluetooth audio on my tinkerboard. The issue is both present on the last rockchip-next (4.1x I think) and the rockchip-current 5.8.18 kernel. I am using bluez and bluealsa. The problem is specific to the onboard bluetooth, using an external bluetooth dongle (a cheap and old CSR Bluetooth 3.0 dongle from China) works as expected, I can even send audio to multiple devices simultaneously (quality is very bad, but thats a bandwidth problem). As long as I just connect one bluetooth audio device everything is fine. I can have multiple paired, but disconnected, devices and as long as I connect and p…

Hi all, Since most of Armbian's Rock 5B images are currently bricked (although hopefully not for too much longer now that we've figured out what the root cause is) I've been using the Ubuntu 26.04 image, which works, but doesn't have hardware video decoding and encoding. Since I wanted to use it with RDP, I needed hardware video encoding at least to make things not super-slow, so I figured, why not port it myself with Claude and Codex. So that's what I did. The kernel and some of the auxillary stuff like ffmpeg, librga, mpp, a mpp -> vaapi bridge, and a gnome-remote-desktop build that encodes using ffmpeg, are all in a PPA. Details here: https://github.com/…

Hi folks, Ran into some issues with July 6 bookworm images for Orange Pi 5 Plus - it boots but there is no video or network. I have no sound over hdmi with my Orange pi 5. I have tried installing alsamixer and alsatools but this reports no settings to adjust. I have looked in files-boot-config for the sound settings and line 5242 says HDMI analogue is not set. I tried altering that to =y but I am not allowed to alter anything here and save it, ( oh how linux loves denying you permission). Does anyone know how to apply some common sense to this, why do the Armbian developers think it is a good idea not to have sound over HDMI, there is no option at al to select this in sound settings. Yours extremely miffed.

Hi, Like the topic says, both NICs are underperforming, they are connected to a Gb switch which I use and benched with other machines, neither iperf nor iperf3 (threaded and not threaded) go higher than 700Mbps. Another server plugged on the same switch reaches Gb steadily. I applied CPU affinity so both IRQ's are handled by the A76 cores but it makes no difference. In Kodi, I was getting black screens while the audio was playing. I was following up on the Kodi forums, and was told that Kodi needed to be compiled for OpenGL instead of OpenGLES to make the video render properly. Hi all, looking for a bit of advise. I had an idea recently in that I have a problem of syncing a 20Tb USB 3.0 RAID0 drive with a 20Tb NAS. I have two fully duplicated RAID0 drives with no protection, so whenever I upgrade the capacity of a drive, I do a full sync. I do this maybe once a year. Whenever I have to do a full sync however it usually ties my MacBook up for a few weeks to transfer that much data over, so I had the idea recently of having a maker board do it since Linux/Armbian supports HFS+, I can just do an rsync between the two. I opted to purchase a Tinkerboard for the GigE Ethernet (I'll live with the USB 2.0), installed, up and running all…

I have an Armbian installation on the NVMe drive and I'm trying to switch back to boot from SD card. In `armbian-config` I messed up the boot settings by leaving the root fs type unchanged, (SD card is in fat32 but NVMe partition is ext4). Now the board boots into initramfs prompt. I also tried `switch_root` but it's not available in the initramfs prompt. Update `/proc/cmdline` to change the root fs back to the Armbian partition…

Hello, I have experimented with a Realtek USB 2.5Gbe USB Ethernet dongle and find that it works fine with the vendor kernel but not with kernels 6.12.x or 6.18.y. I have included an iperf3 example below, you can see that the dongle manages a few runs at high speed before it quietly fails and seizes up. I use a number of these dongles and they tend to work fine on other set-ups. Any thoughts about a resolution? dmesg output: [Tue Mar 17 11:37:00 2026] usb 2-1: new SuperSpeed USB device number 2 using xhci-hcd [Tue Mar 17 11:37:00 2026] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=0bda, idProduct=8156, bcdDevice=31.00 […

I have an Orange Pi 5 Plus 16GB board, revision "1.3.1". I've been using it for about a year with official Armbian, Vendor kernel 6.1. The only issues I noticed were a non-working Type-C port and FAN connector. I thought it was an OS or DTS (Device Tree) bug... But it turned out to be a hardware problem. It started when I got another Orange Pi 5 Plus 8GB board for repair (needed to resolder the Type-C power connector). Same revision "1.3.1". Скрытый текст (left is my 16GB board, right is the 8GB board for repair; the PCB solder mask is slightly different in shade of blue — probably different manufacturers or production batches) …

Hi everyone, New to the forum, so apologies if the questions are answered elsewhere, but please redirect me if they are. I have identified a bug in the `armbian-install` script in the current Bullseye Edge image (Dec 19,2022) that prevents it showing NVMe targets in the installation prompt if they don't have a valid filesystem on them. This appears to have been fixed on the 19th of December in this commit (the grep for filesystems was removed from the lsblk command that returns valid partitions). https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/893ed2347d97af574becf69dee1166a1bf933081#diff-8752ea87e0340f217187b70f7b08735d872a14c0467d02a6285222e594db3299L63…

Hi Please, find below my current Armbian version in OPI5: Armbian_23.5.5_Orangepi5-plus_jammy_legacy_5.10.160_cinnamon_desktop I’m having a few issues with Orange pi 5 Plus. Wifi/Bluetooth issues: I bought this WIFI/Bluethooth model (RTL8852BE) ( Link ) Bluetooth: When I try finding a new dispositive does not find anyone. However, it’s working with Ubuntu. WIFI: I did not have any problem with SDcard but the NVME gave me wifi problems sometimes when I updated it with “apt upgrade”. Then, the wifi does not work and I have to reboot and switch off bluetooth to make the wifi work. I…

Hi, i get a probleme with the actual uart acces config by default on Uart2 (pin 32, 33), because i need to use PWM pin (use to set motor speed with a L293D) and on the board only pin 32, 33 can be use with PWM. Now i am using 32 33 pin as PWM but if the cable on these pin is connected the board doesn't boot, maybe because the uarts of u-boot use these pin and the result of un connected cable to my setup = Critical fail. When i remove the cable on pin 32 the board boot. So i need to solve that because i don't want to disconnect this cable at each start and i want to use uarts with this setup. I need to change uart2 to uart1 or find a way to get PWM or a other pin option …

I'd like to congratulate you for a great release (24.2.1) with KDE! I was looking for a guide to install KDE in a minimum version, but I could not trim it down enough, and this release solved my issues. Everything is working smoothly, video acceleration is there, Wi-Fi (AX210) is there, bluetooth is there! A real pleasure to use. Best, team!

I've noticed a funny thing on 23.11.0-trunk.244, trixie edge. If I use netplan to change the names of the network interfaces, they disappear on the next reboot - linux no longer detects them at all. dmesg will show: ``` rockchip-dw-pcie a40c00000.pcie: Phy link never came up rockchip-dw-pcie a41000000.pcie: Phy link never came up ``` The interfaces will disappear from lspci. Any hint on what's causing this?

I have installed Armbian 25.02 via an official Armbian image for Armbian 25.02 (Debian 12) Vendor Kernel 6.1.xx, is it possible (and sane) to upgrade to Armbian 25.05 (Debian 12) Vendor Kernel 6.1.xx? If so besides downloading the new image and installing fresh what are one's options?

Hello! I installed the latest Gnome Noble image from the very top of the Orange Pi 5 page, it has Wayland and generally is working really well - it even is doing higher refresh rate for my monitor and is smooth! HOWEVER the one big thing I noticed right away - my screen never turns off anymore And my Power options are missing such settings? It only gives the option to blank, which still is running my monitor at 100% brightness and a horrible solution Where is the setting to turn my screen off after 5 minutes? NOT blank, but into standby mode Worked on the previous Cinnamon version but that version lacked higher refresh rates and I think…

Hi there, I'm really happy with Armbian on my Oprange Pi 5 Plus but recently I noticed that I'm not getting kernel updates so often as before. I use rockchip-edge branch and I'm stuck at kernel "6.18.0-rc6-edge-rockchip64". I know there are new versions being tested (https://github.com/armbian/os/pkgs/container/os%2Fkernel-rockchip64-edge), will they be released to armbian? Maybe you are working hard on Armbian version 26.2 and I'm just anxious Thanks in advance!

I run a audio loop code on a Raspberry pi 4/5 and Orange Pi 5. The latency of audio loop is 0.2 seconds on Raspberry pi but on orange pi it takes 1.2 seconds. For orange pi, i am facing this problem with different Operating systems as well apart from armbian. I've used Ubuntu, Orange Pi OS, Armbian. All have got this problem. The code I have attached. Since the issue is faced in multiple Operating System I strongly feel this has to do with the driver level softwares or directly related optimization from Rockchip. Can anyone guide what I could do audio-loop.cpp

I have a couple Orange Pi's, and the HDMI is broken. I noticed that many believe that it is Armbian, but it is not. Orange Pi's probably won't be where we want them until 2025. I found a couple notes from development teams, one below and one from September. Both say the same thing: essentially it's in the works: "The RK3588 SoC family integrates the newer Synopsys DesignWare HDMI 2.1 Quad-Pixel (QP) TX controller IP and a HDMI/eDP TX Combo PHY based on a Samsung IP block. Add just the basic support for now, i.e. RGB output up to 4K@60Hz, without audio, CEC or any of the HDMI 2.1 specific features." https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-rockchip/pa…

Hi all, I'm trying to debug a sporadic problem with my Orange Pi 5 (16GB) which I'm unable to reproduce. I'm hoping maybe someone else experienced a similar issue or at least has any pointers on how to debug it further. The problem: At random times of the day, the board just appears to freeze up. All communications stop. Board is powered on, with red LED on and green LED off. I have to manually unplug the device to reset it. Within the last 2 weeks, this happened 3 times already. Each time, the last log appears to be a journalctl flush (example: https://pastebin.com/dDm5Xtis - the board froze at midnight, no more logs until …

Hello folks, I happily run Armbian Jammy XFCE on my much beloved Meko box (with at least SOME hardware accel) and Bookworm on Orange Pi 5. Both run excellent, but Jammy/xfce is a bit more snappy. probably because of partly harware accell. On the Meko R3588 4Gb box I installed Docker, Portainer, MQTT server container, Home Assistant container. All is well. I operate my boxes via RealVNC, so that it also will work seemlessly when VPN is active. The containers are so extremely light that they hardly take a few percent CPU. Home Assistant container takes 0,5Gig or so, MQTT server takes 0.1Gig. My first encounter with docker is very positive! Next I will try to add open VPN an…

Not an issue nor a bug nor a trouble abour my Orange pi or Armbian. I wanted to build my "own" armbian for educational purpose. I mean to raise my knowledge. I followed this page. https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Switches/ however since it's done. I'm looking for about how to make the *.img file or if I can use *.deb located in my ~/build/output/debs I just miss these informations to finish and trying my failure compilation. I say failure compilation because "first time" is always a fail By the way, if I posted in the wrong place. Delete my post and please accept my apologies.

I've had an OrangePi4 LTS with a 7-inch IPS LCD HDMI jRP7007 external display for three years. Always used it with the stock OrangePi operating system: Debian Bullseye xfce (2022). I had Home Assistant installed and used a desktop client to view cameras and control lights from the touchscreen. Always looked good, and the only problem I had was that Debian didn't have power options, so I couldn't turn off the display; I had to do it manually with a button. The October Home Assistant update completely broke my H.A., it stopped running completely, and when I tried to reinstall it, it threw up errors due to broken dependencies. I tried to repair them, but nothing w…

I upgraded my ROCK5B in-place from Armbian Bookworm beta to Armbian Testing/Trixie beta and it turns out that no Ambian packages are seen (so not updated). The Debian Trixie packages do upgrade, as for example I just saw while doing full-upgrade: libavif16:arm64 (1.2.1-1.2) over (1.2.1-1.1) ... I thought something with my install, but also downloaded 'Armbian_25.8.0-trunk.50_Rock-5b_trixie_vendor_6.1.115_minimal.img' yesterday and it has the same issue (quick test via systemd-nspawn container on loopdev mounted image). My goal is at least to figure out what is best bootloader and kernel for the ROCK5B. So far I simply copied/cloned Armbian Bookw…

Hello! Can anyone comment whether PCIE Passthrough is even theoretically possible on an Orange Pi 5+? Hello. I'm sure this has been discussed a lot but I couldn't find anything recent. I just got my Orange Pi 5 Plus and I installed Armbian 23.8 Bookworm CLI on it. It is really fast and I love it so far. I see that it is unclear whether we have some kind of working vulkan drivers or not but I just installed the mesa-vulkan-drivers package and the vulkaninfo command is actually returning output so does that mean that we have vulkan drivers that work for the G610? Thanks in advance

I have long struggled with a problem with my Rock S0: If using the USB OTG port in device mode, the connection would suddenly drop randomly, minutes or sometimes hours after initialization. I spent months on and off looking for solutions, and I finally found one, so here it is if you ever find yourself having the same problem. Basically, it is caused by the SoC being very sensitive to voltage drops before the USB controller interprets it as the connection being lost. It's far more sensitive than it needs to be, given that my device is bus-powered and so the OS never actually needs to worry about a connection loss. If the connection is lost it is because I have unplug…

I received my new orange pi 5 plus. I installed the official Orange PI 5 Plus Ubuntu on a SD card and it worked great. Then I installed the "Armbian_23.8.1_Orangepi5-plus_jammy_legacy_5.10.160_gnome_desktop" on SD card (Yes I took the image from the page with the "archive for orange Pi 5 plus"), and it get stuck on a screen displaying "Orange PI" (I do not see any armbian logo) , and nothing else happens (the blue light on the board does not blink). Why is that? How can I see what is happening? I installed in the past Armbian on an Orange Pi 5 with no issue, so I am really wondering what is going on there. Your view/ideas w…

How do I change the default desktop environment on Debian 12 startup from cinnamon to xfce4? I have installed xfce4 and it's related "goodies", added a .Xclients file containing "startxfc4" in both root and ~/ folder locations. But the unit sometimes boots back into cinnamon. I do not see anything under armbian-config to control the desktop environment or to switch between cli/gui. I recall such options under orangepi-config (at least the cli/gui switching).

There's an issue with Panfrost and Mesa 19.3 that causes X11 to crash in "OsLookupColor" which you may run into on Armbian on RK3399 devices; it can be solved by enabling the experimental branch in your /etc/apt/sources.list by adding the following line: deb http://deb.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free You can then run 'apt update' and install experimental branch packages with 'apt -t experimental install <package>'. To fix the crash in X11, update the following from experimental: libegl-mesa0 libgbm1 libgl1-mesa-dri libglapi-mesa libglx-mesa0 mesa-va-drivers mesa-vdpau-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers This should allow X11 …
