  4. Hi, I am currently using rock-5-itx to setup a NAS. 10. Hi, I am wanting to try running OPNsense under proxmox, but before that I wanted to setup the type-C port as a management port. I have added g_cdc in /etc/modules to load the kernel module and if I run a vendor kernel, it works fine. I plug my laptop in to the boards type-C port and it shows up as an ethernet adapter and I can SSH directly to the Rock 5 ITX. I however would like to use a mainline kernel instead as it generally runs better thanks to the amazing work of the community here. Running 6.12, this same functionality does not work and nothing appears in the network adapters on my laptop when plugging in. Looking on mainline-status, I see that the typ…

  11. How do I change the default desktop environment on Debian 12 startup from cinnamon to xfce4? I do not see anything under armbian-config to control the desktop environment or to switch between cli/gui. I recall such options under orangepi-config (at least the cli/gui switching).

  19. I have installed Armbian on my Rock Pi S, done some setup, and then taken an image of the disk to be duplicated to other devices. The problem is that each of these devices get the same permanent MAC address on the ethernet port as the first device. I don't know how Armbian gets the MAC address from the interface but it doesn't seem to depend on unique hardware, or if it does then the hardware ID isn't actually unique between boards. This leads to problems because my device is meant to be used several in the same network, causing collisions in DHCP assignment etc. I have tried multiple workarounds and none have worked well. I tried spoofing the MAC addr …

  23. Hello! I'm trying to look around in the Armbian build/config scripts to see how I can enable a mainline v6.15-rc3 kernel to be built. I did try to make a build/userpatches/lib.config file with the contents, KERNELBRANCH="tag:v6.15-rc3" But that's not working. Would anyone be able to tell me the file I need to edit for an OrangePi 5? Update: I actually seem to have it try by editing config/sources/families/rockchip-rk3588.conf changing the version tag. But I get a bunch of red errors complaining about SHA1. hmm...an 'rc3' is probably not to be found in a tree with 'stable' in it. Cheers! Fred

  24. In our testing, when attempting to use various Wi-Fi mini-PCIe/M.2 adapters from Intel and Realtek, we've encountered problem: oftentimes OS will not see PCIe device with error "PCIe link training gen1 timeout". Some days it happens only in 1/10 boots, other days it can stop working completely. After long debugging we've found that 24-pin FPC cable that connects Orangepi and official connector board (PCIE-SOCKET-OPI4-4B) does not pass PERST signal from Orangepi. Instead, it is high by default and the only way to temporarily set it to low is by pressing physical button on connector board. As far as I understand, PERST signal basically tells the connected de…

  30. Hello, here with a Radxa Rock 5 ITX I experience endless loading at reboot after some system upgrades... But not always. Am I doing something wrong by using the command reboot from ssh ? instead of shutdown and power up ? In that case the system loads to rescue mode, asking for the root password and even if entered correctly does not identify. All comes back to working state with a shutdown and a reboot. 35. So a clean install of "Armbian 25.2.1 Noble Gnome" with the vendor kernel (6.1.99) fails to boot when installed on an nvme SSDwith the armbian-install script, when btrfs is chosen as the partition type. I am not sure if the files are copied over correctly, since the ~6GB image on the SD card is copied as 2.9GB on the btrfs partition, but there are no errors occuring as far as I can see. The bootloader is up-to-date, and I can access the btrfs drive when booted from the SD card, so the kernel supports btrfs I guess? However, I think there are some things going "wrong", since the armbianEnv.txt file on the nvme SSD has ext4 instead of btrfs as the ro…

  40. I installed U-Boot in the Orange Pi 5's SPI memory, connected via UART via the CH340G adapter (the power switch is lost). The speed is 1500,000 baud, 8n1. Connected TX-RX, RX-TX, GND-GND. After starting the board, I see the logs, but I can't enter anything at all. When I change the power supply, the input works, but it enters incomprehensible characters instead of the usual ones. When installing the EDK2-RK3588, there was no such problem on the same power supply and adapter. How can I fix the UART input?

I downloaded the Bookworm XFCE variant as I am somewhat familiar with XFCE already. Anyway, upon initial testing, I thought my power supply wasn't good enough for the board. I wasn't getting any HDMI output. When I removed the micro-SD card and tried to boot it that way, an orange pi splash screen would show on the attached display, so I think the port actually works (?) I have a spare USB to TTL Serial adapter so I was able to verify the board was successfull…

I am using the M.2 connector on the Radxa Rock 5B+ board to connect an LTE module (EM7455). According to the datasheet and engineers, this M.2 slot is connected to the board via a USB hub (USB 2.0). When using the official Radxa OS, I can successfully detect the module under lsusb, the necessary kernel modules load correctly, ModemManager recognizes the modem, and I can establish an internet connection. However, on Armbian, I am experiencing a strange issue. The device does not consistently appear under lsusb; instead, the logs show that it keeps connecting and disconnecting in an endless loop. I am unsure of the root cause and how I can gather more detailed log…

  53. Hi, this week my Rock 5 ITX+ board arrived and I started installing Armbian with vendor kernel (now on 6.1.99-vendor-rk35xx). This board has slightly different hardware than the original ITX. It has two M.2 M-key (2-lanes) instead of one M.2 M-key and four SATA ports. I think because of the different hardware configuration the DTB has to be changed as no SATA controller is present on the board. With the ITX DTB I am experiencing problems with not regonizing NVME disks when activating ASPM in armbianEnv.txt. It is properly recognized and a module is loaded but there is an issue with loading a firmware: root@nanopct6-lts:~# dmesg | grep -i bluetooth [ 9.068631] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.22 [ 9.069414] NET: Registered PF_BLUETOOTH protocol family [ 9.069422] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized [ 9.069435] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized [ 9.069442] Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized [ 9.069458] Bluetooth: SCO socket layer initialized [ 9.251768] bluetooth…

  95. Hi, I am running the latest Armbian image with Noble + GNOME for the Rock 5C. I have build it using the `compile.sh` script without altering the kernel, desktop enabled, based on Noble, with GNOME, no applications, no extensions. Added the kisak PPA repo afterwards and enabled the panthor overlay for hardware acceleration. Should be close to the `Armbian_24.11.1_Rock-5c_noble_vendor_6.1.75_gnome-kisak_desktop.img` image, I think. With Chromium (few tabs), VSCodium (working on some code) and a couple of terminals open, things were crashing all the time. Here is a reproducable example with Chromium, when navigating t…

  96. I installed latest Armbian_24.5.1_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_vendor_6.1.43_minimal.img and I can't get wifi to work. The adapter is RTL8852BE. I installed armbian-firmware-full and the adapter is shown in lspci, but there is no wireless interface. armbian-config does not list wifi as an option. armbianmonitor -u

  97. running 24.8.3, and Armbian-install's screen looks like this: Current root: UUID=117b851b-2be0-4bb7-8572-7edce1ef7375 SD card (/dev/mmcblk1) 1 Boot from SD - system on SATA, USB or NVMe 2 Boot from - system on 3 Boot from - system on SATA, USB or NVMe 5 Install/Update the bootloader on SD card (/dev/mmcblk1) I have a µSD card inserted and a 4gb eMMC, but it looks like the names of these devices are missing?

  98. Hi, I tried to activate the SPI interface on a Tinkerboard2S. I used the last Armbian version (Armbian_community_25.2.0-trunk.110_Tinkerboard-2_bookworm_current_6.6.63_minimal). I edited the /boot/armbianEnv.txt and add the overlays, I found different parameters and all doesn't work, I tried: overlays=spi0 spi2 overlays=spi-spidev param_spidev_spi_bus=0 and via armbian-config: fdt_overlays=rockchip-rk3399-spi-spidev But with all approaches I didn't get a /dev/spi* device. Any ideas? TIA

  99. Currently running 24.8.3 and have copied it to the eMMC, working fine on both the µSD image and eMMC. (On the Rock-Pi-S, if you have a bootable image on the µSD card, it boots from that. If not, it boots from the eMMC.) Today, running from the µSD, I did an apt update and apt upgrade, and it updated a few packages (here's the list): # apt list --upgradeable Listing...
