  3. Hello Armbian community, I am writing this topic because, despite the drivers for the processor's integrated GPU are installed within the operating system, they do not seem to work properly. Precisely the system seems to work but as soon as I try to play a video it is played by the CPU and not by the GPU with lag and the CPU is at 100%. I leave the link and the attachment of the result of the armbianmonitor -U command that I posted here: https://paste.debian.net/1337993/ it is a compressed tar.gz file since I included all the results of the command Analysis.txt

Hi all, I am trying to recover after a failed NVMe install. I have a working install on an SDCard, but I think my board no longer boots to SDCard, since I flashed the bootloader via armbian-install. I am not sure if my NVMe install is good or not, and I can't currently reflash it. So I think my best bet is to wipe the SPI, which I hope means the board will go back to booting from SDCard. That's question 1 - is that actually a valid solution? If I wipe the SPI will I be able to again boot to SDCard? I am able to get the board into Maskrom mode, and I can see it using the Windows tool. However, I believe that I …

  6. Dear all, I got myself an Radxa Rock 5 ITX+ as I thought I'd saw that this board had premium support. After it arrived, I saw that only the ITX (non-plus) variant had premium support, which since latest Armbian release some days ago seems to has been downgraded to standard support. I cleared both the eMMC and SPI flash to make sure the preinstalled OS were gone and would not interfere with the boot up process. Then I built myself a latest image with trixie and vendor kernel but I realized that (after booting from sdcard successfully), the Nvme was never picked up. The ITX+ has two M.2 full-size slots instead of only one - and is missing th…

  7. Hi, I have downloaded and tested the 6.12 kernel Minimal/IOT images and they are not booting. I downloaded trixie 6.1, booted, then manually installed latest 6.12 with armbian-config and the reboot failed. I re-flashed sd card with 6.1, installed edge 6.16.4 (latest) with armbian-config and it booted fine.

  9. Has anyone ever gotten the Radxa Zero 3w working in gadget mode? I bought a Zero 3w about a week ago and have been beating this horse most of the time. I can't get the device to connect via USB. A or C. When I try to connect (radxa.local) it will always go through wifi. If I have wlan0 disabled or even my internet off it just will NOT connect. It clearly is using wifi to connect even if I use the hostname. Maybe this is something simple but I and another engineer I work with have been scratching our heads about it. The obligatory AI search was an endless loop of everything we had already tried. Anybody have any advice?

Hi everyone, I was experience some strange things with two similar devices, the first I installed in february this year, mesa v.24.x and EGL 1.4 and it was working fine The other one I installed this week and it turns out that it uses mesa v.25.x and EGL 1.5, although performance was great with most 3D apps (like glmark2) I had poor performance under sway/kitty or the retroarch menu for instance (something like 15 fps). It took me a few days to find a solution so if you have similar issues please try installing mesa with the kisak repository as it fixed my problems sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kisak/kisak-mesa -y sudo apt update sudo apt upg…

  13. On the OrangePI-5-Plus, using an edge kernel, I've found that the desktop environment's GPU rendering works very smoothly on Wayland, in KDE 6 on Debian Trixie. It renders much more smoothly than gnome with Wayland (it's been my experience that the edge kernel is the only one that works). But I've encountered a major rendering bug. It only appears in Trixie KDE Plasma 6 with Wayland rendering. It does not appear when using x11 or when using either rendering in gnome. Nor does it appear at all in Bookworm. I have tried all kinds of things to "fix" these to no avail, including installing more wayland and mesa packages, then upgrading them to stable b…

  22. Hi, trying to get a bit deeper into Armbian, I tried to create my own minimal Trixie-based image for the RockPI-S. I'm using a Ubuntu Noble VM and I managed to run a successfull build following the quick start guide. However, creating an image using ./compile.sh build BOARD=rockpi-s BRANCH=current BUILD_MINIMAL=yes KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no RELEASE=trixie leads to an image with a size around 1.5GB. Compared to the downloadable minimal images, which have 200MB-300MB, this is quite large. Does anyone has any hints on how to proceed in order to self-build images comparable to the ones offered for download? Cheers,

  23. Hi. I have Rock Pi S0 boards that I install in an enclosure. It works, but it is conceivable that some critical bug or change with the image is discovered in the future so that customers later need to flash a new image to the emmc. But for them to do this, they would have to open the enclosure and locate the maskrom button, very inconvenient. Is there a way to trigger rebooting into maskrom from software instead of pushing the button? Apparently this is possible on the official radxa OS image by running command "reboot loader" instead of just "reboot", but not on armbian it seems. After investigating I see linux patches made by the rockchip team for kernel modu…

  25. Hello, I've recently bought a rock 5B plus. I have a brand new crucial P310 nvme 1TB with the goal to boot from it. As the title says, sometimes the nvme drive is properly detected, sometimes not. (Everytime the controller is visible in lspci, but only sometimes shows in lsblk). When the drive is properly detected, I can write to it and it works fine, without issues. I've noticed that it is more likely to be detected on a cold boot (ie. if I turn off the power and come back the next day, the first time it will probably show up). I have the official radxa 65w PD power adapter (although I've also tried a lot more during the proc…

  26. The NanoPi R3S contains a hardware clock (HYM8563) with the possibility to connect a backup battery. However, the current kernel adds this clock as an additional one (RTC1). I tried to create a device tree overlay, but it does not work. As I understand it, this is because the default Rockchip clock is not included in the device tree. So, if I understand correctly, the only way to make the HYM8563 the default clock is to build the kernel with this option enabled. Please consider changing the default kernel options to make the HYM8563 the default RTC. If there’s another way to make the HYM8563 the default RTC, please advise.

  27. I know this sounds strange, but I cannot get any of the images to boot. I have an R3S non-LTS + SD card. It works well with the stock images from FriendlyElec, but none of the Armbian images I tried will boot. I tried different tools to write the SD (BalenaEtcher, USBImager, Rufus), but nothing changed. When I tried to read the SD card with Armbian on my x86 laptop running Debian, the system didn’t recognize any proper partitions (maybe that’s normal, maybe not—I don’t know). But when I write an Armbian image for Allwinner NanoPi, the partitions are detected correctly. And finally, I can’t connect to the debug UART, so I can’t get any logs. I feel…

I burned the image to a microsd cards, inserted the microsd and did a hard reboot of the SBC. The error message is "Gave up waiting for root filesystem device."

  49. Hi everyone, I’m using an ASUS Tinker Board (RK3288, 2 GB, released in 2017). Since this board is quite old and we are now in 2025 I want to run the latest stable Armbian and develop a Python application using I²C, UART, PWM, and GPIO pins. Which Armbian image and kernel branch (current or edge) is the most stable for this board? Are there any specific steps or adjustments needed due to its older hardware? Thanks!

  50. Hi friends, I have one nagging thorn in my side that I just cannot figure out. I need someone who has a 1password account for help with this one. The problem - their desktop app and browser plugin work in tandem -- and it will not synchronize on Armbian for some reason. I've tried everything I can think of - ensuring nothing is downloaded from Flatpak and therefore sandboxed and preventing any connectivity issues. But still not working. If someone can take 5 mins and create a free trial account on 1password, then here are the steps to reproduce: Download the latest arm64 version of 1password Desktop: curl -sSO https://downloads.…

  52. Is there an Armbian image with home assistant that isn't minimalistic? or Is there a way to install HA on a more robust desktop armbian 25.2 image for the Orange Pi 5 Plus? I feel the orange pi 5 is robust enough to handle HA under a desktop Armbian environment than other SBCs.

  53. i also have issues to move the system to the nvme ssd 😞 my base is the Armbian 25.5.1 with 6.1.115 (vendor kernel) image .... 54. I have tested this on a NanoPi R5C as well as on NanoPC-T6 (non-LTS). For the later I also tested a vender provided Kernel / OS Installation. What happens is that whenever some Power-Saving is requested, the board will seemingly fully power down and is not responsive to anything, at best the reset button will do its work, R5C requires a power-cycle. 58. Hello! I installed the latest Gnome Noble image from the very top of the Orange Pi 5 page, it has Wayland and generally is working really well - it even is doing higher refresh rate for my monitor and is smooth! HOWEVER the one big thing I noticed right away - my screen never turns off anymore And my Power options are missing such settings? It only gives the option to blank, which still is running my monitor at 100% brightness and a horrible solution Where is the setting to turn my screen off after 5 minutes? NOT blank, but into standby mode Worked on the previous Cinnamon version but that version lacked higher refresh rates and I think…

  59. Using Jun 26's Sid_vendor_server-kali, my Zero 3W is stuck in a loop. I can't "Create a loop password" as it'll instantly jump to the "armbian-security login:" prompt. If I login with the default root:1234, I'll briefly see the welcome screen, followed by a very brief "waiting for the system to finish booting", then it's back to 1. This occurs regardless of internet access (provided by a USB-C ethernet adapter, for which Armbian reports a valid LAN IP address).

  60. Hi all! I am entirely new to Armbian. I see Radxa's Rock5B RK3588 based SBC is suppored and its Armbian page is https://www.armbian.com/rock-5b/ . Can you give me a small crash course on your experience with Armbian on the Radxa Rock5B? If you have an idea of any of the points I raise below, please share. 1. Super stable? Generally to use and to upgrade Armbian, how stable has it been to you? 2. Which image should I pick? I see both Debian and Ubunto are offered. I'll pick Debian. Then there are "Desktop", "Server" and "Minimal/IOT"and "Dedicated applications" images, and some are listed …

  64. Hello everyone, I use my Orange Pi 5 board to run Open Media Vault with Wireguard installed. But there is a known issue with Wireguard that, when installing it, you have to manually reinstall the correct kernel into the board again, otherwise it won't be able to boot. However, ever since it has been installed, during apt update / apt ugrade of my board, it keeps recognizing the wrong kernel to be updated and changing the symlinks inside the /boot/ folder, rendering the board unbootable. If I see this happening, I can change the symlinks and it works normally after that. However, sometimes the symlinks changes unnoticed and I cannot boot anymore. I…

  65. @Igor@amazingfate Can someone look at this issue please ? I am wondering if this is possibly affecting a large number targets or whether its just BananaPi-M7 / rockchip64 ? I have tried on another monitor also and am getting a black screen. On doing an `apt-get upgrade` on ssh terminal I happened to loose by HDMI display. AFAICT It looks like Ubuntu 'backgraded' gnome v46 (in Nobel release, and also in my older unofficial image) to v44. https://armbian.atlassian.net/jira/software/c/projects/AR/issues/AR-2702?jql=project %3D "AR" ORDER BY created DESC

After enabling the rk3588-hdmirx overlay in armbian-config device tree overlays, whenever I boot, I am greeted with multiple hdmirx (fdee0000.hdmirx-controller: hdmirx_wait_lock_and_get_timing HDMI pull out, return!) errors on boot. On a previous install, the hdmirx errors would block the entire boot process and it would just hang forever. I do not know the exact cause, but the issues seemed to arise after I ran this command to disable the X Display Server "systemctl set-default multi-user.target". The errors could only be resolved if I plugged in the sd card into another device and removed rk3588-hdmirx from overlays in /boot/armbianEnv.txt . …

  70. It's been a while since I used Armbian. I have tons of ARM SBCs from a few years back because I think they're fascinating but they either wind up being too slow or just not worth using it for whatever since x86 "SBC like" boards exist and are pretty cheap. Fast forward to now and I'm doing some touchscreen development and just because of how I have things setup I needed 3 things, I2C, Interrupt capable GPIO and an actual DisplayPort. That combination of things is surprisingly hard to find. I had a couple of things on hand, (Seeed Odyssey x86, Odroid H2/H3, Rpi's, Nvidia Jetson Nano). I spent way more time than I should have trying to make each of these work, i…

  71. Hello again, We're already aware of the existing issues with kernel 6 and the audio on the RK3308B. In this case, it fails again in the latest versions... Alsamixer detects the audio card and even shows it in arecord -L or arecord -l, but when trying to record, the error appears: "arecord: set_params:1416: unable to install hw params" The command applied is: arecord -c 2 -r 192000 -f S32_LE test.wav Although if I leave it without parameters to see what it does, it throws the same error, even if I specify the hardware... In the previous kernel (I think it was 6.12.11 (with the u-boot issue in the previous post), the audio worked per…

  72. A few days ago I had an issue with a successfully running Armbian installation running from the NVME of my Orange Pi 5 that suddenly developed an issue with nothing being shown on my TV. So after seemingly not being to identify the problem, I started again, wrote the image to an SD card and then moved the installation to the NVME drive using armbian-config utility. So now that I have a set-up that works again, I want to instigate a more belt and braces approach and create an image of the NVME installation using GZIP to compress the image file and decided to use the DD option from terminal. But then I turned it on and at the screen where you get the Amrbian grey/red logo in the middle of the screen and the spinning circle, it went no further. 75. I have long struggled with a problem with my Rock S0: If using the USB OTG port in device mode, the connection would suddenly drop randomly, minutes or sometimes hours after initialization. I spent months on and off looking for solutions, and I finally found one, so here it is if you ever find yourself having the same problem. Basically, it is caused by the SoC being very sensitive to voltage drops before the USB controller interprets it as the connection being lost. It's far more sensitive than it needs to be, given that my device is bus-powered and so the OS never actually needs to worry about a connection loss. If the connection is lost it is because I have unplug…

  79. Is there any trick to make use of the integrated fan on Radxa 25W PoE Hat? I'm using 4GB Radxa Rock 5C Lite Armbian_25.5.1_Rock-5c_bookworm_vendor_6.1.115_minimal Some guides mention that one should enable an overlay. I didn't find any relevant overlays in armbian-config. In the Radxa repo I found rock-5a-radxa-25w-poe.dts which specifies that it's also compatible with Rock 5C. I've compiled it and enabled it, but by default the fan is not spinning (on high temps) and I'm not sure how to investigate that. Also, does it matter that I have 5C Lite? 83. The base device tree for the Renegade (roc-rk3328-cc) already includes a PWM2 device but armbian does not include the .dtbo to enable it. Thus, it is also unavailable through armbian-config. 95. Hi, The RK3588 supports frequencies as low as 408MHz, but in armbian the minimum is 1008MHz, which makes the cpu run hotter and draw more power even when idle, compared with the OPI ubuntu version. These are the available frequencies: $ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy0/scaling_available_frequencies 1008000 1200000 1416000 1608000 1800000 $ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpufreq/policy6/scaling_available_frequencies 1200000 1416000 1608000 1800000 2016000 2208000 2400000 I want to add the missing frequencies, I tried to look in the armbian repo for dts files that contain these frequencies, but I couldn't find anything. Is is possibl…

  96. I've got a ROCK 5B+ with two NVMe drives installed, and for reasons I've not been able to track down, I'm noticing that the `-edge` releases (Kernel 6.14.6) are not able to display more than one of the NVMe drives at once. I've checked various physical configurations (i.e., slot one, slot two, both slots), and only one slot is presented (i.e., output from `lspci` or `lsblk`) – but it doesn't seem to matter whether its slot one or two. If I use a `-vendor` images (6.1.115), I see both devices and can use them without problems. I'd love to be able to provide more information or help debug, but I'm not quite sure where to start here! …

  97. I'm using Armbian with kernel 6.12 on a (CB2) device. When I connect my monitor via HDMI, the EDID is successfully read and it includes both 1920x1080 and 1280x800 as supported resolutions. However, only 1920x1080 appears in the available display modes. The 1280x800 mode is missing, even though it is clearly listed in the EDID.

  98. Has anyone made (or bought!) an adapter that takes the 3 pin TTL-level console port and converts it to a DB9 or RJ45 port that can mount in a PCI bracket? If so, what did you use? And what port did you use to power it as the console port does not provide a 3.3V or 5.5V pin for power (there is a pin labeled "RSV" which seems to supply 5V and may be usable but I don't know its capabilities). I've done this before for other systems using these without too much trouble but when I tried with this board it's not working. Admittedly I haven't hooked it up to a scope to look at the signals, but I'm suspicious of the high baudrate being to blame. I have a couple USB ad…

  100. Hi. I have RockPi E v1.21 and I found, that I'm not able to boot image with new kernel 6.12 (tried minimal images 25.2.1 and 24.11.1, USBImager and Balena Etcher, 3 SD cards, different power supplies). With image 24.8.3 it boots normally. Also I found, that after upgrading 24.8.3 to kernel 6.12 the RockPi boots, but Ethernet doesn't work (even LEDs are dead). Another thing which I notice is, that I didn't find any option to disable kernel upgrades, but what I googled, it should be present in armbian-config->system->kernel->Y203. But this Y203 option is missing. Here is successful boot log of 24.8.3: https://paste.armbian.com/ixuvimofis.sql …
