Hi, I am running the latest Armbian image with Noble + GNOME for the Rock 5C. I have build it using the `compile.sh` script without altering the kernel, desktop enabled, based on Noble, with GNOME, no applications, no extensions. Added the kisak PPA repo afterwards and enabled the panthor overlay for hardware acceleration. Should be close to the `Armbian_24.11.1_Rock-5c_noble_vendor_6.1.75_gnome-kisak_desktop.img` image, I think. With Chromium (few tabs), VSCodium (working on some code) and a couple of terminals open, things were crashing all the time. Here is a reproducable example with Chromium, when navigating t…

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my NanoPi R4S. The WAN (eth0) port does not work well when it is configured to work on 1Gbps/Full. When this setting is active there is about 15% packet loss, which is quite annoying. In my tests I have already been able to identify that if I configure the port to work at 100Mbps/Full everything works normally. So I found the forum-post below, that explain that some u-Boot version wasn't setting the correct clock configuration for the netwok device at boot time, but now I have installed the linux-u-boot-nanopi-r4s-edge 22.08.6 and linux-image-edge-rockchip64 22.08.8 but the problem still there. I…

Hi all Cannot make usable wol on my orange pi 5 plus. Os: Armbian 24.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx WOL tested in magic or unicast settings or all flags enabled (phy, unicast, multicast, broadcast, arp, magic) Test sending wol packets with running tcpdump -i enP3p49s0 '(udp and port 7) or (udp and port 9)' show that orange pi successfully receive wol packets on speeds 1000 or even 10 mbps while powered on. But after sending orange pi to suspend or power off I cannot bring it online via WOL. So I suppose network component outside orange pi is ok and it is something wrong with orange pi. Any ideas?

Hi! When I try to access PWM via procedure described here https://tinker-board.asus.com/forum/index.php?/topic/15132-direct-gpio-access/ I see that & are not present (although they should be) I can see pwmchip0, but I don't understand what GPIO it is. Following ASUS docs from GitHub https://github.com/TinkerBoard/TinkerBoard/wiki/User-Guide#gpio-config-table-for-tinker-board-s--tinker-board-s-r20 GPIO32 and GPIO33 should be here: PWM:/sys/class/pwm/pwmchip3 and PWM:/sys/class/pwm/pwmchip2 But those directories are not present. root@tinkerboard:~# ls -la /sys/class/pwm/ total 0 drwxr-x…

Just as a notice the Raspberrry PI 7" DSI Touchscreen was working fine on Armbian with the 4.4 Kernel. Using the current Armbian for Tinkerboard and the 4.19 Kernel it does not work any longer, nor does it with the current development Kernel 5.1. Does there have to be any special things to be set to get it working again? On the 4.4 Kernel it was working out of the box. Thanx

Hello, as already mentioned in topic USB C port doesn't work after upgrading to the latest kernel 6.6.2 . The previous problem with not working left usb 3 port persist no more. Everything is fine. As I remember , before update the usb c port has worked with the adapter and the devices like mouse, usb flash etc. Now it doesn't work any more, furthermore it gives no signal of life. There is 0 amps current measured, also dmesg -W gives no output at all after plugging in the device. PS: I was unable to upload the report file, also the service paste.armbian.com doesn't work at the moment.

So a clean install of "Armbian 25.2.1 Noble Gnome" with the vendor kernel (6.1.99) fails to boot when installed on an nvme SSDwith the armbian-install script, when btrfs is chosen as the partition type. I am not sure if the files are copied over correctly, since the ~6GB image on the SD card is copied as 2.9GB on the btrfs partition, but there are no errors occuring as far as I can see. The bootloader is up-to-date, and I can access the btrfs drive when booted from the SD card, so the kernel supports btrfs I guess? However, I think there are some things going "wrong", since the armbianEnv.txt file on the nvme SSD has ext4 instead of btrfs as the ro…

I have installed Armbian on my Rock Pi S, done some setup, and then taken an image of the disk to be duplicated to other devices. The problem is that each of these devices get the same permanent MAC address on the ethernet port as the first device. I don't know how Armbian gets the MAC address from the interface but it doesn't seem to depend on unique hardware, or if it does then the hardware ID isn't actually unique between boards. This leads to problems because my device is meant to be used several in the same network, causing collisions in DHCP assignment etc. I have tried multiple workarounds and none have worked well. I tried spoofing the MAC addr …

Hi there Suddenly HDMI output stopped working on my orange Py 5. I've been using the board with an external monitor for a month but on the next boot HDMI connection disappeared. external display using type-c output works fine; I've already tried several HDMI cables and monitors - no results; no visual damages detected on the board; flashing image doesn't help; The system is Armbian 24.2.1 jammy OS with GNOME version 42.9. Any ideas what next steps should I do to find out whats happen?

Does anyone have any clues to give as to setting up dual screen on the Nanopi m6? I searched the forum and found nothing. I don't know why I can never easily find Anything here. The forum shows one post for the Nanopi m6 and I know that can't be right. The Nanopi mirrors by default, and that is just not going cut it. Currently installing X on a minimal install. But that's the next thing. Get a reasonablf sized terminal up.

Hello all, I got a problem after new update of armbian firmware through your own module (script). The left USB port on pinebook pro has stoped working at all. Before that was occasionaly after 6 -7 boot ups only one time not working (it is used for mouse). Now after x rebooting it doesnt work at all. The right USB port works without problems. On the left, also USB flash drive doesn't work. No idea, what could it be? Before, as already said, it has worked in 90%. Before firmware upgrade.

Hello, Long time Gentoo and Raspberry Pi user, but I am interested in a more powerful Arm device. Will buy an Orange Pi 5 plus device if it meets my requirements. I am interested about dual or multiple boot: let's say Linux and Android or, at least multiple Linux distro - let's say Armbian and Gentoo. It is possible ? On Raspberry Pi 4 with a larger boot partition I switch content of /boot from boot/debian /boot/gentoo, have multiple partition on SATA SSD connected via USB edit root parameter in /boot/cmdline.txt and that way I choose which distro to boot. On Orange PI 5 (Plus) I read that SPI chip have to be flashed to choose the boot device fro…

Hi, trying to get a bit deeper into Armbian, I tried to create my own minimal Trixie-based image for the RockPI-S. I'm using a Ubuntu Noble VM and I managed to run a successfull build following the quick start guide. However, creating an image using ./compile.sh build BOARD=rockpi-s BRANCH=current BUILD_MINIMAL=yes KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no RELEASE=trixie leads to an image with a size around 1.5GB. Compared to the downloadable minimal images, which have 200MB-300MB, this is quite large. Does anyone has any hints on how to proceed in order to self-build images comparable to the ones offered for download? Cheers,

I installed Armbian 23.11 Bookworm Kernel 6.1, Size: 482Mb, Release date: Nov 30, 2023. After installation, a CH340 based board was connected to my original Tinkerboard and recognized. Subsequently, I used armbian-config to provide the default desktop (Cinnamon flavor). Thereafter, the CH340 board is incompletely recognized. Specifically, no device is presented as /dev/ttyUSB?. The device appears in the list from lsusb, the kernel module ch341.ko loads, but no device in /dev. The forum search shows a previous instance of a similar issue many years back. I attempted to build the driver from wch.cn, but the kernel sources pulled from armbian-config were for the Linux tinker…

I'm adding this here as I want to contribute to the community, but I'm still not sure how. I've been playing with Armbian Build lately and found it's great for quick build images for testing purposes before it's officially made available. So I started build my own images with i3, mate, kde, and I noticed that, in my personal taste, the one that was better suited for my needs was Sway, but there's no desktop image with it. So I built a Server version and start installing it. I know it may not be of interest of everybody, so I was planning to do it for myself, so I can continue building with the interface, but having Sway "automatically" installed. …

Armbian 24.5.1. I don't have a serial console setup so I can't tell if it's actually starting to boot or not, but it never gets to the point where a video signal is sent to HDMI. It *does* send a CEC on signal to the TV, which does turn on, and power-cycling the Pi then begins a normal boot process. Pi also boots normally headless. Problem noted on one Insignia model and on a Vizio TV, works as expected on another Insignia model, on a Hisense and on an LG. Issue began after updating the kernel from legacy.

Hi, I was just trying to test locally build image with edge kernel (Armbian_23.11.0-trunk_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_edge_6.6.0-rc1.img) by flashing it on SD card and then trying to boot off it in my Orange Pi 5+. The board just sits there with the LED blinking and that's it. The legacy kernel image (Armbian_23.11.0-trunk_Orangepi5-plus_bookworm_legacy_5.10.160.img) boots fine. Do I have to carry out some extra step(s) to test the edge kernel? It's not a show-stopper for me as I have legacy image booting of EMMC nicely (and I am running jellyfin in docker happily there). It's just I thought I might test out some bleeding-edge s…

Yesterday I was happy to see the new and fresh Armbian release for the Rock 5 ITX after about 1 year from the last update. I also tried the Armbian Imager and the SD creation was very easy and smooth. I selected the recommended release based on Ubuntu 24.04 + Gnome desktop. Unfortunately when the desktop was about to start, everything when black, stucked and zero interface. On the other hand, the OS is alive and I can connect remotely via SSH. Did anyone have the same problem? Possible solution? [EDIT]. sudo systemctl restart gdm and desktop pops up. Restarting the system, black again.

Using the 5.xx kernal I have been changing the eth0 MAC address at /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ 'Wired connection 1.nmconnection'. This has changed a bit as the versions progress - but version Armbian 21.08.2 Focal / Linux 5.14.5-rockchip64 has now moved the "wired ..." file to the /run/NetworkManager/system-connections/ and suspect the file is recreated at every boot (edits do not stick). I have tried to set MAC at /boot/armbianEnv.txt and in the eth config file. None work. Any ideas as to how to set the MAC address - and is it now even possible?.

Hello, I'm using a RockPro64 boards inside one of my projects and I just noticed an issue related to the reset process. When pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a reset loop. Using the oscilloscope, I found that the reset signal (OTP_OUT_H) is toggled every 330ms by the CPU and the only way to get it back to work is to power off the board, wait a few seconds, and power it back. The same issue is found if, after a working boot, a quick power cycle is performed. I tried disconnecting everything from the board but still, when pushing the reset button, the boards hangs in a loop condition (as if it’s constantly crashing at boot). …

Anyone here playing with USB network adapters? I have a (noname) USB3 Gigabit ethernet adapter which seems capped at 250 Mbps. I know the Tinkerboard only has USB 2.0 (so a theoretical maximum of 480 Mbps), just trying to see if there are better parts out there I could try.

Hi! On the Rockpro64, with the latest Amrbian dev kernel (5.4.0-rc1-rockchip64 updated on 19th of January), the sata hard drive connected to PCIe through the pine store adapter does not go to sleep anymore. It is properly set with hdparm and a udev rule, it used to work fine with the dev kernel before the 19th of January update. Now, if I issue a sleep commd (hdpram -y /dev/sda) it goes to sleep properly but not by itself after the 5 minutes inactivity I have set up. Mathias

Hello, I'm enabling g_ether driver on tinker board. The driver works and I'm able to emulate an Ethernet adapter on my PC when I connect it to the tinker micro USB port. This only works if the micro USB connection exists before powering ON the board. If I connect it while the device is already running nothing happens. This behavior may be related to the following kernel path: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Is there any parameter I can add to avoid the USB from going to hibernate state? Or would it be possible to add the mentioned patch to armbian build tool? Thanks!

I did a bit of reading - to prevent ubuntu packages to update the rockchip optimized packages, you need to pin the packages. There is a simple way to do that. 1. Create a file called rockchip-multimedia-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-rockchip-multimedia Pin-Priority: 600 2. Create a file called panfork-mesa-ppu in /etc/apt/preferences.d with Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-liujianfeng1994-liujianfeng1994-panfork-mesa Pin-Priority: 600 You can verify that the apt configuration is working correctly with sudo apt policy chromium-browser which should return chrom…

So I have armbian installed on a tinkerboard and have had absolutely no issues with it until I bought a new Samsung 7000 series TV (2019). For some reason this TV does not recognize the signal coming from the tinkerboard. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to get this to work. I notice a few references online about being able to force a resolution but nothing related to the rockchip boards. Is there an equivalent way to force a display resolution as in this article? https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Allwinner/#how-to-reconfigure-video-output I'm running 4.19.21-rockchip 5.76 I've also tried kernel 5.4.28 as well an…

So I was messing around with my new OrangePi-5+ and installed the EDK2 UEFI firmware for Rockchip RK3588 platforms onto the SPI flash (/dev/mtdblock0). After which I tried all sorts of images and kernels with varying success, only the 5.10.160-legacy-rk3588 kernel would really have a working display. Until I tried a generic UEFI arm64 image (Jammy-CLI on a USB stick) which gave a working display, albeit at 1080p max. (my monitor is 4K) with no acceleration (after the extra steps), and installed the Mate desktop (just my preference). The big caveat is that it does not recognize the SD-card, EMMC or SPI-flash, just regular drives (e.g. sda/nvme0n1 etc) and I'm…

We are looking at replacing the raspi3b+ with the tinkerboardS (rockchip 3288) in an embedded system, running armbian (bionic-4.19). Initial tests show that OS stability, board performance and form factor make the tinkerboardS a good substitute for the raspi. However, one issue we have run into is a conflict with pin 32 of the GPIO which is used by the hostboard for managing output devices. We have tried to turn off serial2 by removing the UART2 overlay and adding 'console=display' in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and also disabling & masking serial-getty@ttyS2.service but that hasn't stopped pin 32 from being chatty when connected to the hostboard. Is…

Hello, I have installed the minimal Trixie based image for Orange Pi5 (the image named Armbian_26.2.1_Orangepi5_trixie_current_6.18.8_minimal) and then attempted to build an out-of-tree kernel module. Having installed dkms and build-essentials, plus the kernel headers through armbian-config, I found the headers package hasn't been fully set-up, the build symlink in /lib/modules/<KVER> is missing and dkms complains that the kernel headers for the kernel are not installed. The kernel headers are installed though, but it looks like they're from a previous release (25.11.2 instead of 26.2.1). # dpkg -l | grep rockchip ii linux-dtb-cur…

I'd like some help please. The ethernet device naming seems inconsistent. Sometimes one interface comes up as eth0 and sometimes as eth1, and sometimes not at all. The enp1s0 interface seems to reliably come up, but not with the right config (sometimes it uses the config for enp1s0 and sometimes for eth0). I am trying to assign status IP addresses (on different networks) to each interface, but because of the unreliable bringup of the network interfaces, I can't get a config that starts up correctly and consistency on reboots or cold boots. As a test I ran the friendly-core-lite-focal from FriendlyCore and it does not have this i…

Hello all, i have a pressing problem requiring urgent help. I am currently conducting my thesis with the Tinker Board and i have the Armbian Ubuntu desktop with the legacy kernel running. I will please like to know if anyone has an idea of how to solve this issue as i urgently need it to get running fast to run the tests needed for my thesis. Thanks.

to recap: Tinkerboard (rev 1?) has 2 USB devices (from RK3288's internal ports), one for the Realtek HD audio, and one for the 4 USB ports (Genesys 4-port USB hub). while i have no info for the HD audio, the hub is powered via the 5V lines (noted as V5 pin in the datasheet). my mistake would be not checking if all the 5V power lines are shorted, or it's just connected to the hub. there's an option to NC the pin if using an external regulator (say, the RK808 power management chip?) The LAN is separated to the hub and instead directly connected to the RK3288 At least the datasheet for RK3288 says. no pinouts whatsoever so i think …

Hello all! I have a radxa rock 5b (8GB, not the plus version) and am running armbian (bookworm) on it. The kernel version (uname -r) reports as 6.12.32-current-rockchip64. By and large almost everything seems to be working - video playback in VLC is fine, 3d acceleration is working (I get around 58-60fps in the game 'torcs' as an example). The only thing I can't seem to get working (and can't find much about it) is the hdmi input. I see some five devices listed in dev (from /dev/video0 to /dev/video4) although none of these seem to relate to the hdmi input. Does the hdmi input work on the 5b under armbian at all? thanks …

Was using my Orange Pi 5 and it rebooted on it's own. After that, it continually reboots. Been running fine for months. Tried restarting a few times. Tried swapping SD cards. It looks like the power supply is OK, although I'll try swapping with another. I had just backed up the SD Card too. I'll try re-imaging an SD card, but I'm thinking the SD card may not be the issue. I hooked up my UART and captured output. At the end of each loop, it looks like it's saying "Starting Kernel" and then restarting. Captured output follows. Any ideas, suggestions or comments on what's happening. I'm thinking it's probably a hardware issue. I …

Hi I have a Philips pcf8563 RTC that connects to i2c-1. Could you please add support for RTC modules please particularly the pcf8563 and the DS1307 as these seem to be the most popular although some more models would be welcome. I have been trying to create a dtb with a previous kernel that included the needed modules but failed to get it to compile. I even tried adding it to the main device tree with no such luck. I know it's not been talked about much but would love to get RTC working on the tinkerboard. For those that haven't noticed the RK808 power management chip on the tinkerboard has RTC capability built in and even has the drive…

How can I make sure my /boot is protected against power failure making eMMC of Tinkerboard corrupted? Is it possible to mount read-only /boot while leaving the rest of FS writeable? I know about Overlay root FS, it's OK, but I need to protect only boot. Please help to mount it properly. Thanks!

After updating my Orange Pi 5 I no longer can use the "opi5-i2c5-m3" overlay in /boot/armbianEnv.txt to activate and use i2c. Seems the file (or any ohter "opi5-i2c*") is gone from /boot/dtb folder. #uname -a Linux 5.10.110-rockchip-rk3588 #1 SMP Sun Apr 2 14:30:48 UTC 2023 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux Is there a new or different procedure to activate i2c? Do I need to install a separate package for it? Or build the entire OS? Anyone else having the same issue? It does detect some i2c devices(0,10,2,6,7,9), but they don't seem to be related to the GPIO headers, prevoiusly I could also use (1,3,5). # ls -l /dev/i2c- i2c-0 i…

Hi all, reporting a regression in new Armbian 24.2.1 kernel version. New kernel is causing Orange Pi 4 LPS not to boot most of the time, when it boots, then there is no network. Kernel hangs with oops errors on the screen, and all debugging stuff. Sorry that I did not caught any of them on my phone, but it would have been incomplete anyway. How to reproduce: Install any 24.2.1 based system on Orange Pi 4 LTS Upon first boot, you will have issues. No Ethernet network. Second boot will most likely not succeed no matter what you do and system will brick permanently, by not booting at all (no video output), or booting and then showing kernel crash. …
