I bought a Tinkerboard S and Tinker Aluminum case yesterday, but because of the case, it's Wifi function is almost non-exist, so I bought a TP-LINK TL-WN722N v2 two hours ago. I was hoping to get a V1, which has a lot of information on Wikidevi, and looks like it's going to work out-of-the-box, but I got a v2, and now I'm trying to get it to work. Wikidevi provided a link to driver repository, I downloaded main branch and type "make all" in terminal, it says /lib/modules/4.4.166-rockchip/build does not exist. I tried to search how to install kernel header and tried this command "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)", it doesn't work/help. …

I played a bit with the SenseHAT from the RPi guys. Doesn't work fully but I get the first things working. What does run: Joystick 8x8 led matrix (partly, seems that there are some parts of the framebuffer not fully working) What doesn't run: all the sensors attached on the board What's missing: load it devicetree overlay (at the moment it's coded into the main dts) how-to what's needed to get it working on your tinker too I'll keep you updated.

Hello, I own a Tinker Board S (bought one or two years ago) attached to a Sony Bravia KDL 22EX320 TV by HDMI, which has a native resolution of 1388x768 pixels. Bionic desktop with kernel 5.4 (got from https://dl.armbian.com/tinkerboard/Bionic_current_desktop) didn't properly recognize the TV resolution, but set it to 1920x1024. If I run xrandr --props the resolution is not listed. I'm posting because I'm almost sure that the old TinkerOS 2.0.8 (that I installed with the board) recognized the TV resolution correctly - it anyway boots to desktop without requiring interaction, so not being able to read the text at the edges of the console …

I am trying to build the kernel with the standards scripts, but directly on my orange pi 5. The build is stopping at some point because of a Warning issued by the compiler (this is the default behaviour for the compiler who does not tolerate any warning by default). (Some functions in the C code are depreciated, thus a warning is issue) How can I set the CFLAGS so that the kernel build takes it into account during compilation? Thanks.

I bought a Pinebook Pro two weeks ago. It came with Manjaro KDE preinstalled on EMMC. I wanted to try out Armbian, so I downloaded the Bookworm XFCE image from May 27th. In order to get the SD booted, I first flashed Tow-Boot for Pinebook Pro (pine64-pinebookPro-2021.10-005.tar.xz) from github Tow-Boot to the SPI. Then during boot after pressing ESC the menu lets you select the SD card for boot. The first boot to Armbian worked well. I could set up user, timezone and everything. The XFCE desktop looks very clean with a reasonable selection of software. Well done, team! But after I upgrade the system with apt update & upgrade, the next time the machine is b…

I'm running armbian 23.08 bookworm on an orange pi 5 plus. I'm trying to run VMs that boot with UEFI, but these are hanging. Hello, I'm enabling g_ether driver on tinker board. The driver works and I'm able to emulate an Ethernet adapter on my PC when I connect it to the tinker micro USB port. This only works if the micro USB connection exists before powering ON the board. If I connect it while the device is already running nothing happens. This behavior may be related to the following kernel path: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Is there any parameter I can add to avoid the USB from going to hibernate state? Or would it be possible to add the mentioned patch to armbian build tool? Thanks!

Hi, I created a Tinkerboard OMV 4 image some while ago, we uploaded it untested (since 'OMV' just means Armbian's build system doing its job with a massive post processing script adding tons of stuff) but now got the report it doesn't boot. That's a bit surprising given that the image has been downloaded over a hundred times and no one complained so far. Deleting the image is the logical consequence but maybe someone here with a serial console can give it a try and report whether the board comes up or where it gets stuck at booting. http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/jk4NM5/OMV_4_Tinkerboard.img.xz (with mainline kernel) or the default kernel variant from he…

I have no sound over hdmi with my Orange pi 5. I have tried installing alsamixer and alsatools but this reports no settings to adjust. I have looked in files-boot-config for the sound settings and line 5242 says HDMI analogue is not set. I tried altering that to =y but I am not allowed to alter anything here and save it, ( oh how linux loves denying you permission). Does anyone know how to apply some common sense to this, why do the Armbian developers think it is a good idea not to have sound over HDMI, there is no option at al to select this in sound settings. Yours extremely miffed.

My homelab is not in the same room as my desk, so I need to get access from an internal VLAN with restrictions and take control even if the network drivers are not enabled. Have you tested or used a UART to Ethernet converter like https://www.pusr.com/products/ethernet-to-uart-modules-usr-k7.html or https://www.waveshare.com/uart-to-eth.htm or something else? Let me know your thoughts. Sincerely, Frederic

Tinkerboard (old one, not S) to be used as x2go thin client. Installed latest image (5.70_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.14_desktop), applied all updates. Working fine (thanks to everybody who contributed). Issue remaining: My Tinkerboard refuses to use the monitor's native display size of 1920x1200, tried several monitors and cables (HDMI to DVI adapter cables, in case this is relevant). Without any modifications, Armbian desktop comes up with 1280x960. I used xrandr to set 1920x1080 (works), but 1920x1200 leads to "xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed". Any chance to resolve this?

to recap: Tinkerboard (rev 1?) has 2 USB devices (from RK3288's internal ports), one for the Realtek HD audio, and one for the 4 USB ports (Genesys 4-port USB hub). while i have no info for the HD audio, the hub is powered via the 5V lines (noted as V5 pin in the datasheet). my mistake would be not checking if all the 5V power lines are shorted, or it's just connected to the hub. there's an option to NC the pin if using an external regulator (say, the RK808 power management chip?) The LAN is separated to the hub and instead directly connected to the RK3288 At least the datasheet for RK3288 says. no pinouts whatsoever so i think …

Hi, trying to get a bit deeper into Armbian, I tried to create my own minimal Trixie-based image for the RockPI-S. I'm using a Ubuntu Noble VM and I managed to run a successfull build following the quick start guide. However, creating an image using ./compile.sh build BOARD=rockpi-s BRANCH=current BUILD_MINIMAL=yes KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no RELEASE=trixie leads to an image with a size around 1.5GB. Compared to the downloadable minimal images, which have 200MB-300MB, this is quite large. Does anyone has any hints on how to proceed in order to self-build images comparable to the ones offered for download? Cheers,

I saw that you now have a stable release of armbian for opi5. I installed Armbian 23.02.0-trunk.0112 Bullseye a week ago. Now I'm wondering if it is possible to switch back to the stable version without reinstalling the system. The OPI is now running in production and I have several containers running on it. This is what I tried -> armbian-config -> system -> nightly after that back to stable -> armbian-config -> system -> stable ->armbian-config -> system -> other -> linux-image-legacy-rockchip-rk3588=22.11.4 But after login I always see: Welcome to Armbian 23.02.0-trun…

Hi all, I'm trying a Tinkerboard running armbian (minimal) and DietPi. My goal is to handle suspend and wake up. To enter in suspend mode i run 'echo mem > /sys/power/state'. I'm looking other ways to suspend .. by C application or by a signal on GPIO To wakes up I notes different modes on different OSes: - linaro pressing power button, pressing a key on usb+bt keyboard, pressing usb+bt mouse button - dietpi - pressing power button - armbian minimal - nothing ? my guess is that the board shuts down Please con you confirm? Where does reside this different behaviors? Thanks, regards. PS: is …

What is the current status of Pinebook Pro? I see there were Pinebook-Pro-specific install images for older version of Armbian, but there doesn't appear to be any for more recent versions, and currently, the download page points to (non-machine-specific?) UEFI install images. Is this a transition that was discussed/announced, and can I read the discussion/announcement in archives somewhere? Also, does anyone have any installation/testing reports? Is 25.02 known to work on the Pinebook Pro? I've tried a few different times to create a Armbian SDCard for my Pinebook Pro. I've only had one success, one one of my early attempts. Unfortu…

Hello folks, I happily run Armbian Jammy XFCE on my much beloved Meko box (with at least SOME hardware accel) and Bookworm on Orange Pi 5. Both run excellent, but Jammy/xfce is a bit more snappy. probably because of partly harware accell. On the Meko R3588 4Gb box I installed Docker, Portainer, MQTT server container, Home Assistant container. All is well. I operate my boxes via RealVNC, so that it also will work seemlessly when VPN is active. The containers are so extremely light that they hardly take a few percent CPU. Home Assistant container takes 0,5Gig or so, MQTT server takes 0.1Gig. My first encounter with docker is very positive! Next I will try to add open VPN an…

Orange Pi 5 user here, got a new NVMe and decided to try the KDE Neon image for a first time, as it's reported that it's been tested and works: And it does -- until you do an apt update and reboot. Upon reboot, the graphical client and cursor appear but keeps popping up a bunch of error reporting windows, because KWin has crashed Just curious if anyone else wants to try it and confirm because you might want to remove that blurb Gnome image works great though, I've been running it full-time as a desktop with excellent stability and long long uptime

After upgrading to kernel 6.10.1-edge-rockchip-rk3588 I started getting: fdee0000.hdmi_receiver: hdmirx_wait_lock_and_get_timing: HDMI pull out, return on the console. This repeats constantly and quite rapidly, and just doesn't stop. I can silence it by plugging a monitor into HDMI port, but... I prefer to run my board headless (serial + net). Does anybody know any other way to get rid of this? This "feature" was absent with the -rc7 kernel.

It seems that the HDMI output does not have any option beyond 1080P. Tried multiple monitors. The font size at uboot stage seems right but the resolution maxed out at 1080P after kernel starts. Tried Armbian 24.2.1 with 6.6.16. Could be related with this: https://forum.manjaro.org/t/rk3399-hdmi-output-for-resolutions-different-than-1080p/90644. but patches should be applied at Kernel 6.4: https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-6.4-imx25-Rockchip-4K Attached is the screenshot when connected with DELL 25inch monitor. So I have downloaded several versions of Armbian for Tinkerboard using BullsEye and Yammy. Not one creates a working Access Point. The Bullseye version ends with a message that the hotspot has been activated but nothing appears. The yammy version fails with a message there is no usable driver for hostapd. It appears there are a lot of issues with this function. Why not leave it out or document which boards the feature doesn't support. It would save a lot of time going down rabbit holes.

Hello! I'm trying to look around in the Armbian build/config scripts to see how I can enable a mainline v6.15-rc3 kernel to be built. I did try to make a build/userpatches/lib.config file with the contents, KERNELBRANCH="tag:v6.15-rc3" But that's not working. Hello! I set up a firewall on the Asus Tinkerboard. I came across a very strange thing - the lack of support for the CT target in iptables. In fact, it appears that iptables has support of given target, but the required kernel module is missing. After running cat /boot/config-4.4.120-rockchip | grep NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_ST I saw the following: # CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_CT is not set. What the reason of that decision? It blocks ability to forward sip, ftp and some other protocols precisely. And also blocks ability to use SYNPROXY target correctly. Is it planned to include this module in the build?

Continuing the tradition (1, 2) of micro-optimizations for single-board computers that come into my hands. This time I optimized or rather fixed the wake-up function via USB/WoL/WWoL on the Orange Pi 5 Plus. Also got the WiFi adapter RTW8852BE/RTW8852CE working (at least those are the ones I tested). I tested exclusively on the Vendor 6.1.x kernel since the main wake-up features via USB/PCIE/GPIO1-GPIO4 only work in it. I don't currently have the ability to test the new current kernel and I doubt that Power Management will work fully there. Has anyone made (or bought!) an adapter that takes the 3 pin TTL-level console port and converts it to a DB9 or RJ45 port that can mount in a PCI bracket? If so, what did you use? And what port did you use to power it as the console port does not provide a 3.3V or 5.5V pin for power (there is a pin labeled "RSV" which seems to supply 5V and may be usable but I don't know its capabilities). I've done this before for other systems using these without too much trouble but when I tried with this board it's not working. Admittedly I haven't hooked it up to a scope to look at the signals, but I'm suspicious of the high baudrate being to blame. I have a couple USB ad…
