  1. Hi, I have been running armbian with the minmal debian trixie image on a odroid M1 for a few month now and I noticed that since I installed the image there has not been a single kernel upgrade. the kernel is still at 6.18.10 despite current debian install image for this board being shipped with 6.18.28 so I am assuming I am doing something wrong. The apt update and apt dist-upgrade logs show clearly all current package information are being downloaded from both debian and the armbian mirrors, and both armbian-config updates and upstream debian packages have been upgraded whenever I run the apt dist-upgrade commands, but the kernel is still the same old ve…

  4. Has anyone played with kvm or xen on the hw-virt capable rockchip devices? Im trying to setup a simple kvm scenario. Im using Armbian tinker stable and the excellent @Myy 4.13 kernel and have configured it for guest and host support. Im struggling to get the boards up in "Normal" (PL2 / Hyp) mode. I can only get them to boot in "Secure" mode, which is the normal method of boot. Secure boot disables access to Privilege Level 2 and the ARM Hypervisor which makes virtualisation impossible. I have tried setting "bootm_boot_mode=nonsec" but it makes no difference, I still get "kvm [1]: HYP mode not available" during boot. Same as I get with "bootm_boot_mode=sec" wh…

  9. Hello, I read about raxda zero3E edge support, and because I'm having problems with img-6.12.9+bpo-arm64-16k (wireguard dependency) Do you think I could resonably try the edge version and then, I understand that I have to install armbian-bsp-cli-radxa-zero3-edge linux-u-boot-radxa-zero3-edge linux-headers-edge-rockchip64 Is there more to install ? or less ? And, does I have to remove old (vendor) kernel version before ?

  11. Hi There, Board: NanoPi R6S I've flashed armbian OS via armbian imager tool + microSD card and installed the os into emmc using armbian-install. Os was working fine then i realize that the minimum required kernel drivers are not available (npu/tpu/gpu). I have tried to install more than a dozen operating systems including that I used before, but the booting process doesn't work. After lots of try I realized that only armbian os is getting booted from the SD card. Mask button which should bypass emmc and force to boot from microSD card is not working after flashing armbian os. I couldn't connect the NanoPi R6S via USB A to A lin…

  13. Hi, I created a Tinkerboard OMV 4 image some while ago, we uploaded it untested (since 'OMV' just means Armbian's build system doing its job with a massive post processing script adding tons of stuff) but now got the report it doesn't boot. That's a bit surprising given that the image has been downloaded over a hundred times and no one complained so far. Deleting the image is the logical consequence but maybe someone here with a serial console can give it a try and report whether the board comes up or where it gets stuck at booting. http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/jk4NM5/OMV_4_Tinkerboard.img.xz (with mainline kernel) or the default kernel variant from he…

  25. I'm trying to use an SPI driven TFT display on the orange pi 5, but I'm stuck on enabling SPI in the first place. Looking at the pinout of the orange pi 5 in its manual, it appears that SPI4...M0 is the only bus broken out to the pins. However, enabling "rk3588-spi4-m0-cs1-spidev" in the armbian-config menu does not seem to do anything, as no /dev/spi device exists after a reboot. Enabling any of the other spi hardware functions seems to work just fine, creating a /dev/spi device as expected, but none of the other spi busses are accessible through the pin header. 39. Have an incident where I tried installing a newer kernel in an nvme working setup and the device wont post. My original installation flash card is working but is giving me problems. So I got 2 others and attempted to boot new version of the image and Im getting no post. I was able to solve my original problem by installing a legacy version in flash and copying /boot over to nvme. I also attempted rebuilding the mme partitions with no success. But it seems that there is something not working right with kernel 6.7.

It boots much faster, and two or three weeks agoTobias Schramms atf patch made into mainline atf so the device no longer hangs on a soft reboot. I have booted from sd, emmc and the NVME with this u-boot. I haven't tried usb3 or usb2.

  48. Hi! I have got Orange Pi 4 lts with 4 gb ram version. I made flashed sd card using Armbian-Imager using jammy_current_6.6.31 minimal. My problem is OS detects only 3gb (2.91) of 4gb. And i investigated and googled, spent more enough time to fix it but still fail. It is not likely reservation. also tried with bookworm the result is same 3gb. with noble minimal the board doesn't boot at all. what can i do to make os detect all 4 gbs. Maybe there was some similar issue before and i missed? Many thanks, appreciate any help!

In armbian-config, there are generally only 7 lines in the hardware section, in which there is nothing interesting, an attempt to register spidev in armbianEnv.txt it also does not help, in dmesg and journalctl - silence... Where did the interface go?

  51. Has anyone successfully migrated from 23.2 (stable) to 23.5 (stable)? Is that scenario possible today? I'm looking to get the Bluetooth working, I know it has been fixed in 23.5 but that one is currently broken.

  52. So my boss deploys a plethora of Asus TInkerboards to assist with production. We are currently using an OS image provided to us by this website---specifically, Ubuntu_xenial_next_desktop.7z. On some occasions, with kick ass access points, the tinkers will disconnect from the wireless network that we are using. We are also using an antennae attachment which seems to help a bit with connection issues. Without providing too much specific info, is there an updated driver being worked on somewhere that I could be pointed towards? Any info/words of wisdom would be very helpful! Thank you! Best regards and thanks in advance! Joey

  54. I've noticed that some system images will start the OrangePi with 4:2:2 output on HDMI instead of 4:4:4. This causes artifacts, especially when there's white text on a red background. What's the interface or method to change this? Does this have to be done via U-Boot or can it be done in userspace?

But there is a known issue with Wireguard that, when installing it, you have to manually reinstall the correct kernel into the board again, otherwise it won't be able to boot. I was able to install the latest Armbian/Ubuntu-Resolute 26.8.3 image on my Orange Pi 5 Plus without a lot of fanfare. It took a bit of hunting around to find the correct process to get the image written to an SD card with the new Armbian Imager and then push that image to my emmc storage after it booted, but it was rather painless otherwise. It was doing that before running Ubuntu 24.04 with a an older 6.1 kernel from the vendor. I wanted to try the linux-image-next-rockchip, but it had some problems (new IP address at each boot), so I wanted to go back to linux-image-rockchip. When I installed linux-image-rockchip, I got 4.4.73-rockchip and not 4.4.88-rockchip which I had before.

  97. Hey All, I am running a rockpro64 and updated my kernel to 5.7 (linux-image-current-rockchip64 package), but I am not able to run ZFS any longer because ZFS/0.8.4 does not support 5.7 kernel and ZFS/2.0.0rc1 dkms gives me a build failure with linux-image-current-rockchip64 v20.08 (symbol "__stack_chk_guard" is undefined). I was able to build ZFS/2.0.0rc1 with linux-image-current-rockchip64=20.05.7. I am not able to downgrade my kernel because the apt-cache only shows the latest version of linux-image-current-rockchip64 available. Any suggestions on where I can get the old linux-image-current-rockchip64 package (v20.05.7)? Thanks in advance guys, lo…

  98. The path '${kernelw_ork-dir}' actually exists, but why does it appear 'Cannon stat: No such file or directory' during compilation??? What are the configurations? For the convenience of personal development, I forced the use of my kernel source code git address. Please support me, thank you!!!

  99. I want to install jellyfin on my OrangePi 5 Plus and need OpenCL to enable HDR-SDR mapping. I tried to follow the instruction on Jellyfin's official website: Rockchip VPU | Jellyfin However, I'm stucked on the step of installing OpenCL. I also tried this: Install OpenCL on Debian and Ubuntu and Armbian for Orange Pi 5 RK3588 But no luck either. Both instruction led to broken hardware acceleration in chrome and failing to start kernal in Jellyfin. Logs from ffmpeg: sudo /usr/lib/jellyfin-ffmpeg/ffmpeg -v debug -init_hw_device rkmpp=rk -init_hw_device opencl=ocl@rk Applying option init_hw_device (initialise hardware device) with argu…
